      I just installed spitfire tuning tuner to my 1998 Lexus GS 400 and a k&n intake and black hart racing breaks and sway bars ! Just from the spitfire tuning already tuned to stage 2 I gained 88 hp and 46 torque. The next thing is getting is exhaust system tho should be sweet

    I agree with some of the others. About 10yrs ago I had the Apexi Neo with a Boomslang harness on my car. I also had S&S headers, K&N FIPK and Borla exhaust. I pushed 13.0 - 13.1 AFRs and had 276WHP on a dyno dynamics dyno (not a mustang dyno that over-inflates numbers). The car was very quick as I also had a high stall TC and 3.73 Supra LSD. So don’t be afraid to go 13.1 AFR on an all motor GS, it’s not too lean in open loop (hitting throttle).
    Of course, I sold the Neo and harness to someone on Club Lexus when I got my SRT stage 3 SC. Now that’s fun! But was a tuning nightmare with laptop. Good to go now though.

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  3 роки тому

      Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I’m not trying to argue, but let’s just say the tuner started bringing your AFR down until power started dropping off. Then you’d have the same power increase at a safer AFR. Just food for thought. Again, thanks!

      I've got my AFR for WOT at around 11.5 +/-, sites have said around this is 'best rich torque at wide open throttle' would this be suitable/safe for these cars or should I aim for 12.2 +/- which is 'Safe best power at wide open throttle, thanks. (Year old comment, I know).

      Thanks. Funny enough, my idle is perfect. At cold start it’s in open loop, so I just left the low rpms zeroed out. Then it kicks over to closed loop at idle and the SAFC doesn’t do anything at idle anyway. So it works out well for me.

    Thank you for doing videos like this! Anyway, I was wondering if your ecu has adapted and readjusted itself to stock afr values during high throttle. I understand that during closed loop or low throttle it will relearn, but what about high throttle? Just wanna ask from someone who has personally done it. I have been reading up on this and there are lots of people who love it and hate it. Thanks!

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  3 роки тому +1

      Hi - in open loop my ECU has NOT over-ridden the piggyback AFR effects. I know people claim that happens but I’m here to tell you it’s false. Yes, in closed loop (low map) the ECU will just fight to hit 14.7, and that I can confirm. But in open loop my AFRs have held to my targets. The exception is major changes in weather, where I’ll see the AFR move a little, but I’m talking .1-.2 in value. I can tell you with 100% certainly that open loop AFR values remain constant and consistent.

So on the A/FC did you mean you pulled fuel to lean out from your 12.3 to 12.7. Just trying to figure out how to operate it and if it is worth doing to my modified is300. You are very thorough with your explanations. thank you

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for commenting. I went back through the video and I was unable to piece together where I may have contradicted myself or misspoke per your comment. Nonetheless, to pull fuel you have a lesser values on the NEO maps (you're correct). Funny enough since I shot this vid K&N took back the FIPK and gave me a FULL REFUND. When I went back to the stock intake system my car runs SO MUCH BETTER. Now my tune is all negative numbers. I'm pulling nearly 12% in places. I probably need to do another street tune episode as I no longer recommend aftermarket intakes on these cars. The stock system is superior. I love having the NEO for tuning and tweaking and now that I am manual I can easily tune the low rpms (previously I could not). LMK if you have other questions!

    On the is350, the ECU will re-learn the adjustments and all gains will be lost. Clublexus members have reported the ECU compensates and they have to be resetting the Apexi every hundred miles/weeks or so.
    I wonder if the same thing happens with yours.

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  3 роки тому

      Interesting considering open loop is a fixed value. The NEO simply shoves the ECU to a different fuel value in the matrix table. The ECU doesn’t learn anything in open loop - it just reacts. I’d love to see AFR data logging from the IS350 guys showing the ECU is reverting. My NEO and impact on AFRs has never budged unless I did a significant mod or the weather changed drastically, and even then the changes were slight.

    • @kevin82499
      @kevin82499 2 роки тому

      i'm driving corolla AE100 with SAFC2 and AEM wideband, yes the ECU will try hard to compensate back to AFR 14.8 but the adjustment of ECU has it's limit so u need to go on drive and adjust untill the ecu cannot compensate anymore, then it will be the final data u need for your car. but it has an drawback, when u disconnect battary or reset ECU it takes time for ECU to reach it's compensate limit

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  2 роки тому +2

      Again, I’m talking open loop. The ECU never fights for 14.7 in open loop. It only fights for it in closed loop. I recently discovered that the NEO will work in closed loop as well, in regards to fuel trims. So on the low maps I can adjust the values and see it in the trims. And yes, it holds. Point taken about resets though. I have noticed that it takes a bit for the ECU to get back to where it was after a reset. Of course values in the NEO remain the same.

      @ForwardMomentum  3 роки тому

      Sorry, I never dyno’d it due to the ridiculous cost of sessions around here. I would estimate 10-15whp midrange and a little lower elsewhere. You have to have a way to street or dyno tune it to do it right though.

  • @riley595
    @riley595 3 роки тому

    Couple of quick questions. I put a neo in my IS300 tonight and still a bit unsure. Did you change any of the fuel map settings before driving or does leaving it at 0 leave it at the stock factory map? Also did you mess with the setting where it changes what throttle % for high and low map settings?

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  3 роки тому +2

      I left mine zeroed out and tuned from there. The %’s don’t matter much because we’re only dealing with open loop tuning, which is usually around a 70-100% load factor. One thing to keep in mind is that your car will start cold in open loop. So your first couple high map settings (mine are 1900 and 2200) can effect how the car runs at start-up. So I leave those zeroed. My low throttle is 15% and hi is 70%. I progressively pull full from 2500-6500, from -6%- -12% to hit 12.5AFR. Just so you have a reference. Hope that helps!

      Do you know if this is the same for a 98 celsior/ls400?

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  4 роки тому

      It should be. Remember, the PN for the NEO isn’t really the challenge as it’s just a fuel controller; the challenge is ensuring you use the correct wiring diagram when hooking it up to the ECU.

      Do you mean tuning options?

      Yeah... Or what software or tools can be used to remap a 3uzfe ecu?

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  4 роки тому

      Sounds like you’re interested in fuel and timing options. I believe there are some standalone options, but getting a standalone fully set up was insanely complex, time consuming and expensive. The most affordable method is a piggyback like the NEO; of course that only handles fuel in open loop. Your best bet might be to check with AEM and Perfect Power or similar.

      Of course. You have to follow the wiring diagram for your engine is all.

      It’s hard for me to answer for you. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most difficult, I’d rate this a 5. Requires more thinking than mechanical ability. You got this!
