    You could also argue that the job market for this field is expected to do ridiculously well in the next 20+ years. Meaning, if you do become a PTA, it's not going to be relatively difficult to find a job because there's a demand for it aaaannnnnd this job is not going to be targeted by automation down the road. That's definitely a pro.

      Hey. It means that the Physical Therapy field will not be overrun by machines, robotics, or artificial intelligence (AI) unlike so many other fields of work. In other words, no robot is going to take jobs away in this field anytime soon.
      Though we have seen and smiled at Big Hero 6, this is a reality that will be happening sooner than later. It is not as far off as most people think. Therefore, if you are looking at jobs, go with something that cannot be easily replaced by a robot. Teachers, counselors, nurses, doctors, pas, IT, consulting etc... and more.
      But just fyi- the beginning were sewing machines, computers, atms, and self checkouts. But again, there is more to come. People who have technical skills or a trade or teach/ counsel/ consult will have work for while

      You have to really want to do it though. I know someone who is going to study to be a PTA and she is only doing it because she doesn't know what she really wants and thinks she can easily get and keep a job.

      Leonardo Garcia I’m a Florida and Texas PTA. I worked in SNF travel therapy and now working in outpatient sports orthopedics. Schedule wise, in outpatient, Mon-Fri only, paid holidays and PDO aside from benefits you get. In SNF, you don’t get holidays but you get PDO and you don’t usually use the skills in Physical therapy unlike in Outpatient setting.

    I'm currently in the PTA program, and I can tell your viewers that the workload is intense. PTA school is more involved than a full-time job, compares with higher level programs (such as bachelor's & master's) in regards to technicality and application based thought, and requires 50-60+ hrs per week of class/study time commitment to be truly proficient. Otherwise, it's an exciting field that is constantly evolving and will continuously engage and challenge you as you grow in the role. I can't wait to start practicing!

Currently, I work as a case manager. The pay in case management sucks, the benefits sucks, and it's not stable. I'm currently looking for another job in the social work field but still no luck. Without a license, it's sooooo hard to find a job in social work. I went back to get my masters in social work hoping that I would have a better chance of finding a great paying job in social work, but the truth is, it's hard. I've been thinking about going back to school to get a PTA degree and then eventually go to PT school. I'm 34 year old so I'm not if it's too late to go back because I'm tired of school.

    Hi!! Antonio! I like your videos and I'm happy for you that you are working on your career or are in the workforce now!! Congrats! I told you on another video that I was interested in pta but actually my true calling is occupational therapy or ota . I graduated high school in 2011. And haven't been to college since. I live in the melvindale, mi area. And I just feel overwhelmed sometimes because I really want to study ota at baker but I find it a little difficult since I haven't been to school. I find it requires more to get into that college rather than hfcc. I'm scared about homework assignments deadlines all that stuff just starting new ota is my passion I really want to pursue itt anf I like the salary . could you give me tips on what to expect and what I can do to go through tjis smoothly and not feel stressed out!!?? Thanks

      Yah, I can see what you are saying about feeling a little nervous about this whole process especially if you haven't been to school in a while. I would suggest preparing before you start school and look over things in anatomy & physiology and other health classes. Also I would even recommend talking to the director of the OTA program and asking them what are some things you can do before you start and even feel comfortable going to your teachers or professors with questions you have or if you are struggling through the program.

    hey antonio, thanks for all your videos and information! ive been looking into a career transition into pta for the past year or so. however i have one concern..are tattoos (full sleeves, nothing that cant be covered) considered taboo in this field? do you notice alot of pt/pta with tattoos? lastly out of curiosity, what state do you practice in?

    • @AntonioSanson
      @AntonioSanson  6 років тому +2

      matthew fruia i know that my program along with many others don’t let you show visible tattoos especially when you get into clinicals and even more when you go to get a job. They are off limits.
      Now having said this I know a lot of people who work in physical therapy and even some of my friends in the program and past colleagues who have had tattoos lol.
      You will have to wear long sleeves for the program to keep them covered, and even probably to get a job, but once you are in the field for a while and get to know your boss I don’t think they are as strict.
      Personally I don’t really see what the big deal is. I think what matters most is how effective you are at treating patients and being nice to people lol.
      And I practice in Michigan.

      One of my classmates had their BS in kinesiology and she did great in the program.
      As far as reading a particular book to help with understanding physical therapy, there isn’t a ton of good ones.
      The majority of books are either academic textbooks or case study articles but none that really summarize physical therapy and set you up on how to think about all this information.

    Hello, I was wondering if just with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology would you be able to become a physical therapy assistant? Or do you have to have specifically an associates degree in PT assisting? I'm deciding whether to go back to get this two-year degree or finish my Bachelor's in Kinesiology. Also, is there a difference between a PT tech and an assistant? Thank you, Will

    • @AntonioSanson
      @AntonioSanson  5 років тому +3

      So one of the requirements for taking the licensure exam to become a PTA is to have graduated from a CAPTE certified program or something similar. So I think you would have to attend a PTA program to become a PTA. I had people in my program who had bachelor degrees in kinesiology and exercise science and they still had to attend the PTA program.
      Yes there is a different between an Assistant and a Tech. An assistant is able to treat patients and get paid more and have to have a license and degree. A technician can't treat patients and get paid less and don't have to have any background knowledge or experience.

    • @AntonioSanson
      @AntonioSanson  6 років тому +3

      Katie Marcontell I’ve felt the same way, For whatever reason it’s scary to fail because you don’t want to let anyone down or even yourself for that matter, but the biggest regret you will have when you are older isn’t that you failed, it will be that you never tried... so I just encourage you to try because you will still learn a lot no matter what the outcome is.
      Comps are basically mock therapy sessions. They are where you demonstrate your skills with a partner hands on. So it’s not a written paper test but a live demonstration.
      Not all of them but some yes. Even the licensure exam has case scenario questions on it.

    What are you thoughts on pushing for the advancement of the PTA from an Associate degree to a Bachelor and then finally being able to transition to DPT? This would almost replicate the way you can transition in Nursing from LPN-->ADN-->BSN-->MSN. I am a PTA who went back to school for my Bachelor of Science in PTA. Like you said the advancements pretty much stop after that unless you go back for another 3 years of DPT schooling. At that point it makes no sense for the amount of student debt and time it takes to get there.

Can I take 2 or 3 courses per semester even though it’s 2 years? I saw another video of a student in the PTA program and said that she needed to get up at 8-4 or 9-4 and than had to study for 4 or 5 courses. Is this what it was like for you?

    • @AntonioSanson
      @AntonioSanson  6 років тому

      Chelsey Espinoza that’s a great question,
      So the college I attended I could take all my gen eds at my own pace but once I started the program I was on a set schedule.
      I assume other programs are pretty similar, maybe if you take online classes you can space out your classes but I think most programs are at a set pace.
      Maybe see if there are programs around you that last 3 years, this would give you more space to not have to study like crazy.

      Chelsey Espinoza 6 classes (18 credits) was the most I took in one semester, usually the average semester was 15 credits though which is like 5 classes.
      So I would typically have school like 3-4 days a week I think if I remember correctly.
      But there were no other courses on top of that after class. You would just need to study and prepare for class
      And then there was a portion which you have your clinical rotations but I don’t think that is what you are talking about.
      And the time of class varied per semester. Sometimes class would be from 8-4 and other times 11-5 or something random
      It would change every semester.

    I also live in Colorado. The CC I’m
    Enrolled in does not offer a PTA program so I’m assuming I would have to transfer to another CC and than it would be a year or two of the program? I just want to know if I can go at my own pace in the program. Can I take fewer courses? Is the program also an 8-4?

      My program had a set pace and set class times, but each semester it varied.
      I know it’s a bummer that you have to cram all that info in 2 years but if you put hard work in then you can get it done and put it behind you and it will be so worth it!

      Antonio Sanson so was it an 8-4 plus 4 classes?

      Antonio Sanson or was it only those 4 classes for 2 years? Did you have to do something additional like hands on in the morning - afternoon than study for those classes?
