@@LeanIntoTheWind yeah loving it but always wishing I had more time to ride… you may well have chosen the right niche!! 😆👍🏍 I just got a Guzzi V7 to add to the collection and think the Harley is next 🤔 we ride the same country roads so let’s meet at the ferry inn one fine day and shoot the breeze… as well as a little collaboration perhaps if I can persuade you to let me have a spin on Ramona??

Great review you obviously know the bike very well , currently riding a Triumph street twin as my first big bike but deep down I know I’m a Harley rider and one day I’m going to have one although I’d better hurry as I’m already 56 !

I got my first Harley in my 20s , my dad then went and done his test after me
He bought a speed triple , but said he’d have a Harley at 60 as it’s an old mans bike
      His words
At 60 he said he’d wait till 70
At 75 he now saying 80 haha ..

  • @jjg1962

Those Road King handle bar cover plates seem to be single use. Lost one in Germany, my dealer told me they come off really easily and gave my another as a warranty item. The little plastic hooks that hold it in place are tiny and if they get bent or pushed too hard they break and the cover won't stay on. After I'd adjusted the bars, the second one wouldn't stay on so I put some double sided tape under it and that lasted a few thousand miles before the second one fell off. If I lose another one and the dealer won't replace it I might make something up out of metal and polish it up and then bolt it on.

    • @LeanIntoTheWind
      @LeanIntoTheWind  11 місяців тому

It’s definitely a design fault .. in my opinion the left hand pannier should come full the brim of cover plates when you buy the bike ! . I’m not buying another one .. I’m thinking of raising bars 2 inch with extended risers .. so will put that cover box thing away somewhere safe ..

Bang on review, it's the King !
I just love mine for all these things, the traction control. Most of the time it's not needed but nobody's perfect and it's there to save a possible spill.
The Day maker, lives up to its name.
M8, just so capable, but I have vented my transmission top cover !
Cruise control, I rarely use it in this country (unless the traffic is light,) there's too many numpties in tin boxes ! But abroad or when the road is clear its just so nice to be able to rest that hand.
And comfort, we have a La Pera seat on ours and it's just so comfortable.
I had a fan put on the oil cooler for when it's real hot but as yet don't have an oil temp gauge so cannot say if it makes much difference ( just peace of mind. )
love the channel and the way you both present it ( and the music !) Thanks guy's keep it up.

It is the perfect mixture of the old and new. It is a wonderful touring bike. It may take a few mods to customize to each individuals needs. I love my 23 RGs, but the more than 5 aftermarket things you need, suspension, bars, seat, exhausts, screen, front light and definitely other tyres, love the road kings looks, funny how HD wants you to build your own bike

    • @LeanIntoTheWind
      @LeanIntoTheWind  Рік тому +3

Yeah love looks of RGS ! We each have to put our stamp on . I changed seat already and bars , have the mufflers but want true duels … I don’t ever want screen , 30 years never having one I’d miss the free meals .. I’m happy with suspension but then I’ve come from a bike that had none , to me and my wife .. we feel like floating on air . But saying that an upgrade would probably shift the handling up a notch . I think all Harley’s are just a blank canvas .. not many people leave them unchanged . That’s the beauty of them . Cheers for taking time to leave a message dude ! Ride and enjoy !

Such a downer when stuff like that happens. Guess it is not the dealers fault but definitely needs bringing to their attention. You might have to bite the bullet and pay for a new one. I would be super glueing the bugger on there this time!

Nice rural setting for your video. Your Road King Special is a real looker.
I wish I had the Traction feature on my 2003 Road King as it sounds like a real life saver that proved worthy on your bike several times as you described.
If I did more night riding I would definitely replace my headlight with a day maker as you suggested. I also prefer the look of the single headlight which is classic on your bike.
I feel your frustration regarding the Road King plaque that keeps coming off your bike. I've experienced similar annoyances in the past as well.
I would suggest with your next Road King plaque you use a 3M double sided adhesive tape before mounting your new plaque.
I used 3M tape on my new F150 chrome trim to replace the original trim that was damaged (before I owned truck). I replaced this trim on my 1986 Ford F150 truck which mounted on the front, right side, quarter panel. The F150 chrome trim stayed on secured, as if OEM, and never moved or became loose in the 11 years before I sold truck. You would never have known the trim wasn't original. Ensure the mounting surface area is clean and dry before applying the new plaque. I've used a dab of alcohol which cleans and dries almost immediately.
The other option you mentioned of using velcro may also be another way to go. I look forward to seeing your new plaque after it is secured on your bike.
The Road King is supreme and like none other. You have a keeper bike with a powerhouse engine. Fun!!!

The rural setting is a place called ‘Barling’ I used to live there when I was a kid , it’s a tiny village , I actually met my wife there and she used to jump on the back of my first motorcycle when I was 16 .. a Suzuki ER 50cc … and we’d ride across the fields to try and escape the dull small village , as there is nothing , not even a shop . I do love the naked look of the RKS. I have a 21 SGS and the only LED it came with was the day maker, as good as it was I swapped it out eventually for the Custom Dynamics Halo light, and man the difference is amazing. Every light on my bike is now Custom Dynamics. Denali lights certainly make a difference. Makes me cringe that we pay all that money for a “top end” motorcycle and it’s till comes with old style bulbs.
You are bang on the M8 is one hell of an engine, I travel all over North America and it’s solid, probably one of the best engines HD have made, even better than the solid Evo.
I got the Feuling vented dipstick to help vent some of the excess crank case pressure, definitely a great addition to the engine, and yeah the 114 is great, tons of power.
The Prodigy wheels also make the bike look great.
Great review mate, like your style, new subscriber. 🇬🇧🇨🇦

The vented dip stick sounds like that’s worth checking out to . I loved the old Evo .. really was a fan , but struggled keeping high speeds over long days .
I rode across Switzerland, Germany and Belgium ending up in France all in one day … sat at 90 and almost blew the engine .. it got so hot pistons started making thumping sound , scared life out of me .. it was an 89 motor .. but these M8 got so much to give .

Ya I been playing guitar all my life on and off to this day at 48 years...been riding since e I was 8 or 9... the guitar vids don't sound that good at all, my setup was all wrong for recording. It was to bassy and not enough mids cranked up. Ya man I love the new road kings but just don't have the money rite now being late off from the mills...I lost a great job I was gonna retire from due to covid so haven't found anything that pays as good, we have a big mortgage and car payment. I was a brick and stone mason 25 years before the mills, so I been do that until I can get in a better paying mill. I try to appreciate what I have, a good roof over my head and a healthy 11 year old daughter. It's been tough though the damn new Harleys are so freakin awesome and beautiful. I love a black harley but the new 120 anniversary color is just awesome. I digress, take care man, good to chat with ya, I'm in Pennsylvania, USA. Kneez in da breez brother...

Thanks man , I had a 1200 sporty great motorcycles . Nah the bars on my bike at the time I made this video were off Road Glide , the OEM Road glide bars , same height as road king but 7 in pullback rather than 2 inch . And 32 wide instead of 40 … the stock RKS bars make you feel like you on a hang glider haha … so far forward and so wide , you stretched out like on a rack , I got them off first week or so . But since this video I’ve swapped for 14 inch high , 7 pullback .. needed that height for long trips . Works for me .

I currently have four bikes but my favourite is the old 68 Ironhead sportster, currently off road undergoing a replacement clutch, when I get chance to dare tackle it. But since watching your channel and others featuring the Road King I’m seriously liking the idea of looking into ownership, initially an older model circa 98/99 year.
