I always enjoy hearing about how the newer bikes run and all of the features and enhancements that have come with technology advancements. Great video and congrats on the 500 sub milestone. Godspeed
Great informational video as always. Thank you for the insights.

Thanks Rusty. I appreciate your kind comment. Thanks for the support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍
I've never seen a RK Special out on the road only in Dealerships. I've had a 07,12,16,17 ultra classics and my current bike is a 03 SE Roadking and I really like the way it rises. Maybe someday I'll upgrade to the special. You've got a nice one . Thanks for the great video.

Great quality video, love those bikes. Don't see them as often over here in Ireland so they always draw attention when they pass by, that Harley sound 🔥

Hey. I’m I in the UK and have just bought a ‘21 Black RKS and I adore it. Back to basics after a GSA 1250 and better for it (though I love both!). At 6’4” I am watching vids too many hours to get hints on upgrades etc. but at least there are options to tailor it to me. Saddleman on its way and footboard extenders and then try new bars. Such a weird angle for my wrists. Not sure what they were thinking tbh. Great videos and ride safe. 🏍💪🏻

Your video was spot on. I have a Triumph Thunderbird Commander which I thoroughly enjoy, but Accessories are limited. I've always wanted to get a Harley. Street & Road Glide always seemed appealing but just a wee bit to much. Just by chance I hopped on a Road King Special during a Demo Ride and immediately had that moment of absolute Clarity!!! No Doubt about it this is THE ONE !! I am 300 plus so it fit me like a glove. Thanks so much and I look forward to future clips.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. The Road King is a great bike for sure. I appreciate your support. Ride safe and enjoy your ride. 👊👍
Great Job Rick ...
Thanks for catching the premiere and supporting the channel. Much appreciated. Ride safe 👊👍🇺🇸
Before I even continue watching super smooth intro 👌😎 and I’ve never exactly put down miles on a road king but what I do like about the road king is that ya get the classic motorcycle with all the touring comfort that the other specials have as well 🧐 stay safe out there; keep the shiny side⬆️ & the rubber side⬇️ 🤙
I like the bike a lot for sure. Just a few fixes here and there to get it even better. Thanks for the kind words and your support through your comment. Ride safe. 👊👍🇺🇸
I got a 2022 road king special. With RDRS your right about the suspension I had to upgrade it I put the screaming eagle ohlins fully adjustable wow its amazing I ride 2 up with my wife its so nice don't even feel her on the back. I put a bad boys freedom seat with back rest best seat ever I put in a 10 hour day in and its more comfortable than my car, also put the Kraus 10 inch risers with 1 1/2 pull back with there moto bar the rider triangle is perfect with that set up bike feels even lighter with those bars. I got other mods but those are the most importing the suspension was the first upgrade I did. going to put a FXRP Ferron on very soon. I absolutely love this road king it does everything I ask from it And more. short long rides comfort power, I could not be happier with the purchase. its an amazing bike I think it mint be the best one Harley sells.
Thanks for watching and sharing your input and set up on your RKS. They are definitely great bikes. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
I have the 107 with a windsplitter…. I can ride all day long. It’s nice to know that in ten years when the technology on the other touring bikes begin to resemble an A-track player… the Roadking will still look like the classic that it was made to be.
I've got a '21 RKS and about the only negative I can think of is that the factory bars are horrible. The wrist angle is somehow off and causes massive fatigue in my clutch wrist after a couple hours of riding. It gets so bad that I can't effectively and properly shift anymore and start clunking through the gears a lot less smoothly. A lot of people complain about the bits of chrome on an otherwise blacked out bike but I personally like it. Gives it a pop of shiny here and there to break up the monochromatic black look (mine is vivid black). All in all I think it's the best looking bike Harley makes right now, period. I love the 114, I love the riding position (other than the bars), I love the stretched bags, etc. I'm just about to hit 1k miles (picked mine up on Thanksgiving), and now that the weather is turning nice I'm about to start piling on the miles now... Just waiting for my upper clutch cable to come in so I can finally install my 14" bars lol...
Congrats on the bike. I agree the RKS is one of the best if not the best bike in the touring line. The bars are horrible but I've gotten accustomed to them on my bike. I'm sure when you get yours changes out the comfort level will increase. Thank you for watching and commenting. If you haven't subscribed yet, I'd appreciate it if you'd consider doing so. Ride safe 👊👍
The bars on my ‘21 Road King Standard stock bars were perfect. My ‘23 RK Special, like yours, are torture after 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the Standard bars don’t fit the Special. Another 2K to be comfortable on a 25K bike.😡
@bikeknight54 Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes the RKS bars are terrible. Wrist angle is odd. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

Hi Rick, I just subscribed. This last spring I picked up a 2017 Roadking in Superior Blue and Billet Silver. I'm old school and love the chrome, but also love how the Special looks all blacked out...wish I could have both.. It was a decent price with only 1800 miles. Like you I could probably make a little money if I sold it this spring. But I won't cause it's a beauty, and I'm having lots of fun making it even better.
First of all thank you for subscribing and commenting. I appreciate your support very much. Secondly your perspective is on point...we all have our likes and dislikes with our bikes...we generally like to make them our own by adding or changing things to do just that...make them our own. Holy cow I love that back drop ! Very well polished video style I only wish I could do a video like this !
As far as the RK , I would look at a dominator cycle fairing they look sick !!!! But I’m Old school Dyna guy …

That set up for gas cap and fuel gauge is the same as what I had on my 2008 Softail Deluxe. I love the flush mount, I did same on my RG Special. Have you noticed to on blacked out bikes the kickstand is chrome.........seriously sticks out!
HD - smart!! It's all about accessories, you can do anything. I did get a cable clutch when I traded in my Streetglide, hated the hydraulic myself. Good video, detailed and nice flow.
Yes there are a few more chrome items here and there on the bike...yes the kickstand is another head scratcher for sure. I really like the flush mount for sure. Thanks so much for watching and your thoughtful comments. Ride safe 👍👊
A great job Rick that should help future buyers of this bike with real seat time comments. Eric
Thanks Eric for your support. It's a great bike, as you said, hopefully this will help someone make a more informed decision if considering this bike. Ride safe 👍👊🇺🇸
Great video. I don't think I'm ready to jump up to a touring model yet but the road king is the one I like the most. I'm in Southern Ontario and it's been a bad winter here but I have been out 4 or 5 times in Jan-Feb. It was cold! Haha

Great video! I went to a Road King because of it being a little lighter in the front but it's still a heavy bike, I have to say you are exactly right on all points I won't buy a new Harley because of all the things you will want or need to change to get it to where it will ride and be comfortable for long rides the suspension is the biggest one! Ride safe out there!

I just picked up a 2021 RKS in Blackjack Metalic on Sunday, and so glad I did. Traded a 2018 Heritage and its a similar ride, yet the RKS just feels better. I had been wanting a RK for a bit, and just had to good of a deal. Talk about plenty of power and fun factor, especially after adding some Rinehart pipes.. The fact that the windshield mounting kit is back ordered still is quite annoying. Great bikes, great video.
Congrats on finding a RKS in that color. Not very many of those out there. The RKS is a fun bike. I appreciate you watching and commenting. If you haven't yet subscribed, I'd appreciate you considering doing so. Thanks for your time and ride safe. 👊👍
Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on it Rick, Road Kings are nice bikes💯👊🏽😎

Great video mate! I’ve recently test ridden the new sport glide but it was too small for me. My good friend has a cross bones and road king, in fact 2 buddies have road kings, older ones with the 1584 engines, I have to say they changed my perspective on Harley’s. Since I’ve ridden their bikes I have been saving up for a road king to compliment my ktm. My mate is in a 1% club here in the uk so I get to see and ride some awesome Harley’s. Great content, great production value, and a great review. I’m glad I found your channel.
Thanks for stopping by and supporting the channel. I really appreciate the support. I am a Harley guy and now enjoy the Road King Special even more with the Stage 1 upgrade I performed over the winter months. The bike runs and performs very well and sounds incredible. The sound via the video is nothing compared to hearing it first hand. Ride safe and thank you again. 👊👍
@@HDVIBE I was offered a custom vn900 a few weeks ago for a great price, but it just didn’t have that Harley sound or vibe so I turned it down. I will have a road king soon enough, then I’ll be a Harley and ktm guy! Keep up the great work 👌🤘
So you didn’t get the newer updated oil pump? That vent tube that was drilled in the primary solved the sumping issue? Any feedback is appreciated.
I did not get an updated oil pump and the venting on the primary has resolved the issue. I believe the vent kit was installed from the factory on the 2020 models. So far no issues. Thanks for the question and your support to the channel. Much appreciated. Ride safe 👊👍
My thoughts on the Road King Special. Best model they offer. Love mine. Take care.

My previous bike was Slim with 345 miles but still stickers on tank logo :) I really enjoy your videos they are getting better and better and you have great energy. I got the feeling your channel will grow fast. Your location shows St. Louis is that correct?
Yes I am in the St Louis metro area. Thanks for your kind words and support. I very much appreciate it. I like finding bikes at value prices. Sometimes it's a bit of a challenge for me. I've been doing some hunting for a Road Glide Special. There are still some decent prices out there you just have to be diligent and quick to pill the trigger if you feel you've found a good or great deal. Ride safe 👍👊

I am feeling compelled telling that my 2019 FLHRXS has a wonderfully operating hydr. clutch - I just do not understand what people are complaining about/referring to while criticizing the hydr. clutch... it is just made and designed right in my opinion - I have ridden it more than 20k.. it is just awesome, looks great and operates perfectly fine
Thanks for watching and providing your perspective and input. Not really a complaint but just and observation that it engages farther out than the hydraulic clutch on my 2015 Street Glide Special and is noticeable when I switch between bikes. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two. I'm not a fan of cable clutches necessarily as the cable can stretch making it necessary to adjust or replace the cable over time. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the support. Ride safe and all the best in 2022. 👊👍
Isn't it amazing how almost everyone who purchases a Harley has a story behind it?! You mentioned the chrome fuel gauge and the gas cap. At least that's an easy fix. The pushrod tubes and tappet covers are another story to black out. I still don't see why Harley leaves them chrome. Great video!
Yes that's true. The push rods are something that doesn't bother me much but it's a definite head scratcher as to why on Harleys part..
Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate the support. Ride safe 👊👍
I believe Matt Laidlaw said he was told it is harder to consistently (more expensive) powder coat parts in black than to chrome them. That may explain why some parts stay chrome.
As someone who's lusting after a RKS, and will definitely have one in the garage in the near future, your videos have been great. Been taking notes on your upgrades! The "meh" suspension and brakes that come on most stock bikes make me scratch my head, isn't how the bike handles and stops one of the most important things? They all do it - Honda, Indian, Triumph, Yamaha - but as a "luxury brand" Harley has no excuse.
Thank you for watching. I'm very glad that you are using my videos to help form a decision or learn more about the bike. The bike is a great choice and right now is my favorite bike of the 3 bikes I own. I agree with you on the suspension. I haven't changed it yet, but, I probably will in the near future. I run the Legends Revo on the Street Glide Special. I was a night and day experience the day I put them on the bike. @@HDVIBE Yessir, am subscribed! Thanks for the word on the suspension, Legends are "legendary" LOL. I'm waiting for the used bike market to calm down before getting my RKS, maybe in the next 2-3 years. Until then, I'll keep making a wish list of upgrades!

I never buy new bikes either. If you are willing to travel, especially to Florida, you an find very good deals on bikes with 1k miles or less. And they usually already have new exhaust, seats, etc. Liked hearing the story
I have heard that the prices are lower in Florida. Not sure why but for me if I can find a really good deal, I'm up for a road trip and haul it home. Trailers from Uhaul are cheap. Thanks for watching brother. Heal up 👊👍🇺🇸
How does that windsplitter windscreen compared to a traditional Harley road king screen?
I'm not sure how it compares as I've never ridden with a Road King Standard screen. The windsplitter gives be great wind protection and I think looks much better on the RKS than would the standard RK shield. For reference I'm 5'10" and I get no buffeting. Thanks for watching and if you haven't subscribed yet, I'd appreciate it if you'd consider doing so. Ride safe. 👊👍

It’s a beautiful bike. And a solid contender against the Indian Springfield DH. It’s smart to buy the lowest mileage used motorcycle you can get. I like the content. Good job.
Thanks so much for checking out the channel. I appreciate the support through your kind words and subscribing to the channel. Ride safe 👍👊🇺🇸
I did find that the Rear Air Suspension is quite good on the Indian Chieftain DH. My brother rides a 2019 RG Ultra. And when he test rode my Indian, he was impressed by the suspension. I had to change both the front and the rear suspension on my 1997 FatBoy.
@@onlyhereonce7290 I have never ridden and Indian. I need to test ride one day to get a comparison. 👍👊🇺🇸
Thank you for this informative video! I thought suspension travel on the rear differs between the standard and the special? I agree that stock suspension is bad. I was wobbling and scratching floorboards and it didn’t feel safe on my Ultra. I put Öhlins shocks on the back and Öhlins springs on the front, which I can recommend. I’m thinking of switching to a Road King, because of the extra weight of the batwing and knee fairing and the top case. And I like to see the road in front of me and the batwing does block my view. As you say, I could always mount a tour pack when needed. I have never listened to the sound system anyway and can do without volt and temperature gauges, so in hindsight I don’t know why I should be riding around with all this extra weight. Thank you for the attention to detail, as it helps me choose between options! Greetings from the Netherlands.
I do believe the standard has a 13 inch rear shock versus the specials 12 inch rear shock. If I upgrade the rear suspension I would definitely go to a 13 inch rear shock as I did on my Street Glide Special. I'm glad the video has helped guide you as you make the decision on which bike to go with in the future. Thank you for watching and for the thoughtful comment. If you haven't done so already, I would appreciate it if you would consider subscribing to the channel. I have been to the Netherlands and have spent time in the Venlo area. Ride safe 👍👊
@@HDVIBE appreciate your response! I lived in Venlo for two years, 25 years ago; what are the odds! Have a great day!
For a Special version of an already existing model we should get LED lights all around. The 21 MY has the updated led headlight. When I asked the HD dealer how much it would be to get it they quoted me at $800!!! So went shopping and got all three lights from Hogworkz for $400!! I did the install my self. The suspension could be a lil more plush true but it’s fine for me and for right now. To me the Road king is the forever Harley you gotta own at one point in your life… With full stage one the 114 is so effortless to ride twist and gone!!😂😂 I have cams on my radar but just cams nothing else since I have the updated oil pump and the primary pressure release vent… So everything is solid. Would like to get your opinion on just a bolt in camshaft…
I think on Cams you have to ask is the juice worth the squeeze. The parts are not outrageous in terms of cost but if you have a deal put it in...it's a $1,500 to 2,000 investment. These are just amounts off the top of my head. A cam job can be done in your own garage with a few specialized tools. But, it's somewhat technical and you will need to update your ECM map obviously. A few options on that as well. I suggest checking out J&P cycles channel and search for there cam install video on a Milwakee 8. It's very good and steps you through step by step. Thanks for your comments. Ride safe 👍👊
@@HDVIBE did all that haha but I am not looking for the hype the entire world is looking big numbers to show off… I miss the old Harley sound so cams just cams would help with that sweet lope… Ride safe ride far!!
I am about to buy a new road king special should i go new or used that my problem
I think at the end of the day, if you can find a good pre-owned at a decent price then go for it. If it still has factory warranty, you will be covered. Bike prices as I'm sure you are aware are high. But if you search there are bikes priced right out in the market place. Good luck with the search 👍👊

For ugly you are forgetting the chrome jiffy stand and plate. That stands out like a sore thumb! IMO there are others, shift linkage, lower rocker covers, lifter covers and push rod covers. For a blacked out bike, there is still quite a bit of chrome out of the factory. Oh, and ignition switch...
Yes I forgot a few more chrome items. I can't believe I forgot the jiffy stand. Your not the only one that brought that up in the comments. Yes and the ignition switch. I've saw someone put a black wrap on it. Thanks for watching and offering your thoughts as well. All good stuff for those that maybe considering the RKS as their next bike. Ride safe 👍👊
@@HDVIBE all that stuff can be replaced, i've done it for all mentioned. Drag Specialties has the black ignition switch cheap, BUT you will have new ignition lock keys. I also replaced the jiffy stand with a Drag Specialties, stock height, and bought the CVO black plate from Harley direct relatively cheap...Surdyke. You can also powder.
Thanks. Yes Surdyke is my go to for parts. Nice discount and usually 7 to 10 days I get the parts in the mail. Or I just head to the dealership and pick them up. It's only about 45 or so miles from my home. 👍👊🇺🇸
@@HDVIBE why didn't you force HD to put in the latest version of the cast oil pump rather then them drilling that hole into the primary? You probably could have had them do a stage 2 at that point much cheaper given they'd have to open the cam chest.
Good point. At the time I wasn't as educated on what exactly was going on with it. Frankly the dealership was a bit flaky in the situation as well. I had to suggest that it may need the vent kit because I read it forums that was the fix. Live and learn. Thanks👍👊🇺🇸

And next on the list of bikes I want and can't afford.. this is at the top..
Pros: It doesnt have a fairing.
Cons: There arent any, It doesnt have a fairing. Lmao
I got my '17 with a set of aftermarket 12" bars on it, and im super glad I did after hearing the numerous complaints about the factory bars on these bikes. IO kept the light chrome/black contrast on mine, wished I could find the CVO windshield like you have though. Looking at the Fox suspension right now myself.
I'd definitely suggest a set of Powerstands Racing adjustable levers to aid in the clutch release point issue. I have big dumb hands and I still wasnt a fan of the release point. They look nice, and theyre adjustable (as the factory ones should be, but we wont go there).
How do you like the Saddlemen? Was looking at the extended reach models but they seem hard to find right now. Might go LePera.
Thanks so much for watching and for your very thorough comment. Thanks for the lever suggestion. I will look onto that option. The Windsplitter windshield I ordered from Harley. I really like it and I have zero helmet bobble from the wind. I absolutely love the SDC @saddlemen seat. It's a game changer for me. The reach is good I would say for someone up to around 6 feet tall. Without the little backrest you get an inch or two more of reach. Thanks for checking out the channel and if you haven't yet, I'd appreciate you considering subscribing. Ride safe 👊👍
I hate that on a blacked-out bike, they always manage to throw some chrome on it. Like the kickstand, it's always chrome.

I'm about to buy a pre-owned RK beautifully chromed out and professionally painted candy blue. It's beautiful. The only problem is, it ain't black. How much will it be to black my bike?
Thank is a great question which unfortunately I really can't answer. I'm sure powder coat is the way to go but I have zero first hand knowledge on cost. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
