I really appreciate Marvel mentioning the Partition of India in this episode. It's when the British, after giving India its independence following World War II after a long period of colonization, split the country into India & Pakistan. Pakistan itself had a civil war and then split into Pakistan & Bangladesh. Many families suffered, millions of people displaced & outright missing. _Doctor Who_ had an episode mentioning the Partition, too. "Demons of the Punjab" it was called.
The fact that I want a mini show just about nakia and her mosque election shows how good the characterization and representation is! It’s so good! One of your fellow UA-camrs/reactors is a cast member introduced in this episode as Miguel. I saw him and lost my mind because I watch his family's reaction channel when they react to Marvel and Star Wars content.
Yeah I kept looking at him thinking…I know that actor. How do I know that actor? Finally went to IMDB for the cast of this episode and was like, MaJeliv!!! It’s him!
WAIT. I just realized something. Kamran might not have held Kamala's hand to be cute or flirt. He straight up grabbed her where her bangle would be (I checked the exact frame). Except: Kamala put it on her left wrist not right wrist. I think he wanted to make sure she had it and it was her with the powers but missed the 50/50, but that's why he was there with the car in the end : because his mom might have connected with Kamala during her 2 episodes, which happened AFTER the driving lesson chronologically.
It’s….. very difficult to explain the emotional weight and heartbreak and melancholy that all Pakistanis and Indians carry in their hearts because of Partition. We don’t have an accurate figure, hell even a good estimate, of the human cost because it hasn’t even been a full century and it’s still so painful that historians on both sides have been very reluctant to dwell too deep into it. ‘Every family has a Partition story. And none of them are good’ is a good but extremely understated summary of our people. I’ve been scared actually of how Marvel would address it but so far it’s been respectful enough. Hope that continues On a happier note, this show has done a really good job of showing the little things of our daily lives. The complains about the Mosque Show Thief (it’s a cultural in-joke at this point), the reference to Zamzam, the prayers (both in the mosque and at home), the Bollywood debates, the music, the terms of endearment in Urdu, the swears in Urdu, all of it is on point. Btw, the actress portraying Kamala’s ‘Nani’ (affectionate word for maternal grandmother) is Samina Ahmad - she is a veteran Pakistani actress, a giant of cinema that has graced our screens for well over 35 years!
Not to mention we have the last living generation who directly lived through it and thus their struggles still feel a lot personal to us because of that. Maybe this melancholy will subside as the generational gap from the event increase, but for today, it's something that did happen in our recent past and affected our grandparents directly.
I liked when Jay said he’s more interested in her personal life than in all of the hero stuff because that’s always how the comics have felt. Kamala Kahn has always been way more interesting than Ms. Marvel.
Did you guys see the youtuber Matthew from the Majeliv family in this episode. The oldest son is the guy she fist bumps at the lockers, & rides in the back seat of the Porsche next to Bruno. They are family of youtubers who are actors. I'm really happy for them.

As someone who has been in that situation where I liked someone who very much did not feel the same, I felt that. edit: totally agree with Jay, this is how you do representation right. it doesn't feel woke, none of the characters feel like stereotypes, they just feel like real people, good stuff!
Bruno loves Kamala hard. I wonder if that will be a source of them no longer being friends (as in the comics...im pretty sure lol). A romantic rejection would definitely sever them.

I've been watching their videos since the beginning of Marvel's Disney shows, and now, I'm watching him on TV as one of Ms Marvel's friends/classmates. Wow.
I think they will do the romantic comedy thing where Bruno initially does not want to go to CalTech because of his love for Kamala, but then will probably be talked into it or change his mind on his own when he sees Kamala spending less time with him. Then, eventually, Kamala's other friend will probably have a talk with her and help her realize everybody has known that Bruno has always loved her. Then, by the end of season 1, Kamala will realize she also loves Bruno and will run to the airport to confess her love for him, The End, LOL!
Honestly, I can already see this being the trope. Best friend loves the girl but this one guy comes rollin in and manages to inadvertently drive the wedge into the friendship. Seen it all before. Been through it before. I can relate to Bruno.
Iman Vellani is like Tom Holland--the one of us that lovingly took on the role. It's what makes them fantastic in the role, they love the characters as much as we do.
Well, Holland's nowhere near a fan as Vellani is. Holland was a fan of Spider-Man in general, but Iman is a die-hard MCU fan; aware of all plot inconsistencies, other minor details, and can recite the first 10 mins of _Iron Man_ off memory. Different league!
Enjoyed the episode. Fun and I liked the nod to 16 Candles when Kamran was sitting on his car waiting for Kamala. Plus, Kamala's mom knows something big.

I've been watching their videos since the beginning of Marvel's Disney shows, and now, I'm watching him on TV as one of Ms Marvel's friends/classmates. Wow.
Matthew is lucky indeed... what we wouldn't give to be in that role instead. But granted he is an actor first, UA-cam reactor second.
That kids she's saved stole her friends shoes
Enjoyed the episode. Fun and I liked the nod to 16 Candles when Kamran was sitting on his car waiting for Kamala. Plus, Kamala's mom knows something big.
Bro this show is the fun light goofy balance to the dark twisted mature style of The Boys. I can't wait for Episode 3 as well
I doubt anything to come will ever be funnier than the "IlluminAunties"!!!!!!
In your spirit of "one of us", the actor who plays Kamala's friend, Miguel is a UA-cam reactor with his family (Majeliv).
And the kid stole Nakia's shoes.
Great reaction though guys as per usual. From a random Kiwi in New Zealand. Oh and are you gonna react to Umbrella Academy when it drops next week?
I'm loving this show
I love Iman she's everything
I have 35 years and never thought this will be one of my favorite shows but here we are
Iman will be one of the greatest and brightest stars of our time
Someone on Twitter noticed that the kid who falls has Nakia’s shoes!
Wait what I gotta rewatch
I see what you guys did in the beginning, and as a New Yorker, I appreciate that. I've been to a ton of open-mics in New York, a very small fraction of them were bad (there's too much talent in NYC), but yeah. I have wished they could draw the curtain on many a performance. Also, hey! This episode was awesome!
5:10 Purple’s the one true flavor.
Look closely at Kamran's mother and the woman in Kamala's "visions."
9:09 I swear for my life that when I was watching this episode and this song started, I thought: "Awwww, Jay is going to enjoy this so much!" hahaha
Nacho Cheese Dorito taco shell, but straight Doritos you go Cool Ranch.
I like shows that present diversity without stopping to rub it in your face or remind you. Just write a story and don't preach.
if you would have told me 3 months ago that miss marvel would be more enjoyable to watch than obi wan, I would have said you're crazy, but here we are
Iman Vellani also had the same teacher as Hayden Christensen
every time i see Arian Moayed, i LEGIT scream, "that's anna's lawyer!", iChuckle.
Man, Iman Vellani and Awkwafina sharing the screen together would be SO much fun.
This show is such a breath of fresh air for me.
The fresh breath of air each week!
I've been refreshing UA-cam all day waiting for this! 😍
Because I'm wildly impatient and forgetful. 🤷🏽♀️
Speaking of geeks making it big, Adam should try out for THE FLASH. He's got that perfect runner's physique--and I think WB's might be looking to recast any second now.
Yes!!!
The faces you guys pull in your reactions are sooo hilarious
Jay being a cool ranch guy
Adam being a nacho cheese guy
Is why you’re best friend goals
I feel like Jay and Adam were low key fighting in this video.
I think the 10 Rings and Kamala’s bracelet were made by Eternals … remember what Phastos made as a weapon … cosmic bracelets! I think they’re gonna tie in Shang Chi, Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel with Eternals
"that's what you see when you look at me right?" "lol sure" i feel that mood
A fellow UA-camr was in this episode!! Matthew Vasquez!
1- LOL, nice nod to ''The Marvelous Ms. Maisel'' in the intro.
2- It's perfect that you both love different Doritos flavour, it only mean you get the full bag for yourself.
Purple bag of Doritos is the real mvp. Sweet Chili Doritos will make you finish a bag in one sitting and immediately open another.
is the mom in the car is the same woman in the bracelet"s visions?? What if that women is her great grandmother Aisha who had the bracelet before and she didn't grow old at all.. so the new car guy is her grandfather!! LOL... Wicked!!! In the comics Bruno is goes eventually to Wakanda to study! Still love your reaction and your friendship!!
12:51 "I'm older than you, dude" line got me curious... I was NOT expecting Adam to be 50 years old. Mind Blown. Youngest looking 50 year old I've ever seen.
This is screaming Inhumans but the IlluminAunties said one of the things said about Great-grannie was that she was a snake. That sounds like Skrulls...so confused
The question is will they introduce the inhumans in the main universe
Or will they wait for future phases
@@joshbrosh6626🤷♀Hope you're not asking me. My motto had always been "In Feige we trust" but my trust has been a bit stretched lately as I wait to see how this is all supposed to fit together
I reckon in the finale kamala will get arrested by damage control and either captain marvel or Monica rambeau (probly nick fury too) will show up to help her leading into the marvels movie
BLUE BAG -- Dorito Army -- UNITE!!
That shirt is right on target, Adam.
Seriously, the Hawkeye love is great. Also, I own the tee in white.
Hey, the Blue Bag v Red Bag split might have hurt to learn about in the moment but at least you've got yourself a new intro pairing for future videos!
If Kamala's great grandmother really is Kamran's mother, that makes Kamran Kamala's great uncle... The incest vibes are very strong with this show. I mean I don't care, but I'm certain a lot of other people will.
5:00 … that’s scared me Jay😭 i’m eating cool ranch doritos at 12 am n feel like you’re watching me 😧
This show is such a breath of fresh air after binging the boys before season 3.
Cant wait for them to react to the new The Boys episode tomorrow though.
Then 100% Wong will appear with Captain Marvel and Shang Chi at the 6th episode post credit scene.
Iman Vellani is Kamala Khan irl
I do not eat doritos anymore but if I absolutely had to.....im reaching for that cool ranch BAY BAY!
7:50 best friends forever
It's really more like Ice-Cream Pie. It just gets the "pizza" name because of all the little toppings they use to cover it.
I have a feeling this kid literally did mean pizza.
This show is charming as heck.
Nice to see you two be friends again at 7:45 after that nasty Dorito feud.
Ms Marvel is a great example of why we need more new talents in the MCU and mainstream media in general. Iman Vellani was fantastic in this show!🙌
They were talking about Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) the international famous actor and Bollywood actor in the car.
I laughed so hard at "Truly a stretch." That was gold, Jay. Thanks for that. XD
EDIT: I'm rating this episode 2/2 Vomited Ice Cream Pizzas. That kid would be sick to his stomach after what just happened. LMAO
