This episode help me see a different side of how smart this show is with its Scott Pilgrim type visual effects. I didn't even really notice the lack until Kamala was texting with Kamron and it was just normal text bubbles. And it made perfect sense to me because Kamala is more grounded in reality in this episode. So the visual effects that we see through her eyes are more grounded in reality. And that made me realize this represents more kamala's real life becomes cosmic the less that she's fantasizing. Like a coming of age story.
ngl I interpreted it as Khamala being sad so there isn't really much creativeness going on and when the wedding text is on screen, she was happy so it has her own signature style in it.
and even then the first bubble was blown out of her poster’s mouth
This show has done a wonderful job of creating a sense of community, which then makes you want to *protect* that community at all costs.
Exactly
i feel like the fight scenes are a waste of time lmao
I feel so protective of Kamala. I just want that kid to be happy. She's the best!
meh
That whip sword is called an Urumi. It’s a flexible metal blade that was designed to peel skin rather than kill, so it’s more of a defensive weapon. Also, they sometimes have 3 blades like a cat-o-nine tails. More SCLORP than CROUNCH!!
One of the dangerous weapons you use when practicing Kalaripayattu, a type of Martial Arts.
and it being used by the Djinn
the phrase peel skin makes me beyond uncomfortable
So the villians, Clan Destine, is a super deep cut reference to a limited 1990s marvel series. In comics, Clan Destine, is a family of superhumans all descended from a djinn exiled to earth in the 12th century who married and gave powers to a knight
I completely missed that the Djinn were standing on the Ten Rings logo in the tomb.
me too Eric Voss pointed it out and i was like OH. UM… HOW I MISS?
Yep.....Voss at New Rockstars did make note of the 10 Rings carving on the cave floor
“Welcome back, peaches! In this episode, the Lawful Good and Chaotic Good boys discuss their different approaches to ice cream pizza. Then they watch a show, that’s cool too.”
Another great episode...I like that Kamala is maturing, and as that happens the Scott Pilgrim stuff is slowly going away. Now we have more mystery and apparently going to Karachi.
I truly love this show. I did not expect it to be my type of show and it quickly turns into one of my favorits. All the figures in this show are great and it has so much heart and gives a very nice glimps into Pakistany-American/Southasian-American culture. ❤
"I used to be a superhero until I took a drone in the knee" - Adam. Such a great line...loved it.
The fact that there's another band basically confirms its a nega/quantum band hybrid for the MCU which is cool as hell but the cooler part? Linking them to the 10 rings in that same scene. I guess we know how Shang Chi's father gained his immortality now.
Either of those bands would certainly qualify as a "419" in the eyes of Damage Control's predecessor.
Yeah, seems like most people missed the 10 rings symbol in that scene. Also, possibly provides a little link to why Captain Marvel was in the Shang Chi scene, this might come up again in The Marvels. Also thought I saw 10 rings in some graffiti in the 1st ep but since I didn't see anyone talking about it, figured it wasn't. Need to go back and double check that now.
A thing I noticed, there was a huge symbol of the ten rings on the floor in the scene in the beginning where they also found the bracelet. So they are probably connected in some way. Also would make scenes if they come from the Kree because the circus at the end of Chang chee also didn’t knew where the rings where from.
do you mean Kree?
The Cree are a North American Indigenous people. They live primarily in Canada, where they form one of the country's largest First Nations. In Canada, over 350,000 people are Cree or have Cree ancestry.
@@EternalDensity yea, they meant Kree
@@EternalDensity yes of course, its Kree. thanks for correcting me.
Personally I was REALLY hoping that they would subtly introduce the Inhumans in this show and make Kamala one like he is in the comics, but giving us Djinn instead is actually almost as awesome. But the best line in the series so far is one Kamala says in the Avengers game and said here, “Good isn’t a thing you are, it’s a thing you do.” That to me is as beautiful and insightful as “With great power comes great responsibility.”
the other names she described that group as being, a bunch of them are almost synonyms of inhuman in urdu, so it could be theyre calling her djinn until they properly call her inhuman? but i can't be sure
Djinn are made of smokeless fire.
Noor means light in Arabic
Super impatient Najma has proven herself to be untrustworthy so…
Clan Destine is half human half Djinn
Djinn might be Called Inhuman according to Comical Logic!
I dunno
djinn might end up being inhumans anyway. plus the comics have kind of avoided calling kamala an inhuman for a while lol
Did you guys notice the 10 Rings symbol in the place where they found the bangle (in the flashback?). It might mean that the 10 Rings in Shang Chi and these bangles might be from the same place.
Or judging from the crime scene The Ten Rings might be Djinn enemy
I like that we're going to Karachi kind of like in Moon Knight where they moved the series to Egypt. Should be interesting.
My favorite thing is how Adam simply leans back and crosses his arms when Jay does his Jay thing.
Every time I see Auntie Ruby I freak out bc I temporarily forget she was on Critical Role and then remember again 😂
It's also great since Travis and Laura were Thor and Black Widow in the Marvel Avengers video game.
Kamala's dad is SO right. Hostess fruit pies are AMAZING. Especially cherry.
Guys saying that Jay needs to be cheered up and that’s what this show is….
Me knowing dang well this episode had me crying a good bit of tears….. not as much as obiwan but still a little rough.
I started this show because it was something Marvel to watch, but have fallen in deep for the characters, style and story! So nice to see something fresh and inventive in an established genre!
“…and tonic?” Bruno obviously hasn’t caught up on his ‘Supernatural’
What I love about this series is if you look past the clothing, the customs and the beliefs. It shows just how much we are alike as people, the shame is that there are so many people out there that focus on our differences instead of our similarities that they won't even give this show a chance. So far this is the most consistent MCU series to date, I'm not saying it's my favourite but it is IMO the best.
I just noticed this now in Kamala's fight with Djinn, for the most part (and I know this show isn't related in any way to this one) she was using evasive classic Air Bender defense like Aang, until one of those Djinn hurt Bruno with that chair, then she switched and went all Korra on their behinds, lol, at least for a moment.
The Urumi or Whip-Sword is real and it’s really Pakistani-Indian.
Real thing. Real whip sword.
It doesn’t do THAT much damage per hit bc it’s hard to cut with a flimsy blade but it’s super fast and it’s super long reach and does bleed u.
1. The wedding scene was so well done! That’s exactly the choreography you see at Pakistani weddings, if only slightly less coordinated. It was a breath of fresh after that almost mocking scene in Eternals.
2. The actress who portrays Najma (pronounced Nudge-mah), Kamran’s mother, is a Pakistani TV actress, Nimra Bucha (pronounced Nim-ra Book-aa) who’s known for her ‘beautiful, expressive eyes’. She does the crazy-eyed look very well
3. The actress who portrays Aisha (pronounced Aye-shah), Kamala’s great-grandmother is Mehwish Hayat (pronounced Meh-wish Ha-yaat) is a Pakistani TV and film actress and one of the best currently working in the industry. She’s also considered one of the most beautiful.
In summary: I finally have a Hollywood property that represents myself and my people, not just thro story and characterisation but also with actors who I know and love
P.S. Adam, those robes are called Sherwani and the proportions are well suited to tall, lean men. So yeah, you’d look amazing in them
So the more i watch this series, the more i hate damage control. Granted they did come in with the save, but earlier in the episode i wanted to slap the agent in charge.
As for the wedding stuff, it was so Bollywood that i love it!!! Even the fight scene synced with Living On A Prayer was super fun
A dead Kree in a tomb with a Ten Rings symbol, eh? Interesting...
I wonder if those are the Nega Bands.
Something I noticed on a rewatch, but the scene where the Clandestined are getting the braclet there's a carving on the ground of the ten rings with chinese writing in each circle.
I am loving this show! It's so much better than I thought it would be. Such great casting and I want more Bruno. 😂
The dust scene with the Djin last episode i think, when they were looking for the bracelet the Ten Rings sign was in there with them on the floor so there might be the possibility of Shang Chi coming as well
Had to rewatch the Roxie/Scott Pilgrim fight from Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Roxie's Razor Belt (BTS a Gymnastic Ribbon Wand) vs Scott/Ramona is always fun and probably way to deadly to ever exist...
I like how one of the reactors slowly slided back, when Najma answered her son Kamran :"OF course its dangerous, why wouldnt it be!!", in such a cold, determined and icelike manner. Got some "Mommy Dearest" vibes myself, of "NO wire hangers!!" in the way she answered.
I loved the wedding scenes in this episode. It looked REALLY fun!
I think the DODC still possess the exotic materials from Spiderman Homecoming. I think they also got the tinkerer helping them make the same weapons he made for Toomes. The thing is Toomes wanted specific weapons because his job was to steal things. The DODC will likely ask for more destructive ones.
Jay's joy at whip-swords is a groove!
Great reaction and funny commentary guys. Just subscribed to your channel. This show is absolutely amazing
this show gonna put living on a prayer back on the charts... 🤣
There's a symbol of 10 rings on where they found the bangle
That Matthew Lillard impression made me want to Scream...
I want to go to that wedding. I love this show and I can't wait for the final half of the show.
"I used to be a hero till I took a drone in the knee" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I really love the fight scene to living on a prayer
In the flashback scene you could see the 10 rings symbol on the floor, curious about Captain Marvel being in the Shang Chi post credit
I don't know what I loved more about this show; the craziness you two create, and the mad last minute outros you guys come up with
The blend of Muslim culture and superhero vibes is brilliantly balanced. I care about the characters, but I’m learning so much about the culture and that’s what I love about this show.
The amount of Jersey specific humor is unparalleled. Hostess & Brown Jovi? 💋🤌
Sea salt caramel ice cream on one of them chocolate chip desert pizzas with the icing drizzle over it! BOOM 💥
I need an entire Brown Jovi album ASAP!
I like the "Clan Destine" name drop - although it probably won't tie into the comic of the same name - which was a favorite of mine from the 90s. Clan Destine does have a small connection - the founding father of the clan had children with a Djinn.
This episode shows that Kamala’s problem is that she lacks confidence
Her guilt of endangering the lives of her loved ones and fear of failure is holding her back
Like most superheroes and teenagers, needs to learn from her mistakes and believe in herself
Seven minutes of schtick before the actual reaction has got to be a new record.😄 Happy to see Jay has recovered emotionally from the Obi-Wan finale.
I gotta say, there’s a lot of good band names out there but Brown Jovi is one of the best. Genius!😆
C'mon, guys. We all know when Adam pulls a knife on Jay, Jay uses his shield bracelet (after he puts it on, it's just off camera, it's a whole thing).
I knew that Kamran's mom wasn't on the up and up because when she introduced herself in the car, her smile never reached her eyes.
I was fully ready to enjoy this show, just maybe not as much as the other Marvel shows. I was wrong. This is probably in my top half of them. Really really good!
the opening had a subtle ten rings nod lol
The whip-sword was really cool! It looks like it's a "urumi" which is a real-life whip sword that originated in India, so that's a cool real-life nod to the origins of show (even though the Khans are Pakistani)
This is the nice calm happy show before tomorrows Boys episode were it’s gonna get freaky
Ms Marvel is the perfect pick me up. She's so perfectly likable and it's just a joy watching.
I'm really curious if this is going to have a direct tie in to post credit scene from Chang Chi. The ten rings symbol has to have some connection with this show
Bruno has been in the friend zone in the comics since origin and still hasn’t changed.😓
I tried ice cream pizza and it was amazing! I got Baskin Robbins Flavor of The Month “Grilled Peaches” and put it on a cheese slice. Now I want to try peach pizza but you gotta go down to Georgia for that.
Careful, the Devil's been known to go there as well . . .
Did you guys catch the symbol on the floor of the cave where the Djin found the bangle was the 10 Rings Symbol? Curiouser and curiouser…
Honestly, if this keeps up, this show will be my biggest surprise of the year.
I loved this episode and I am loving this show.
Also, Bon Jovi for the win!
Also, who else noticed the 10 Rings logo in 1942 ??? They have to be connected!
drone to the knee skyrim reference is your best off the cuff you've had. Bravo!!
Is the assumption that the bangles are the Nega Bands?
I was also super floored by the fact they brought in the Clandestine. I've got every issue of Clandestine and they never crossed over really. Wild.
The 2nd bracelet has to give her whatever the "final form" of her powers is right? Hard light seems to be more or less capable of more defense than offence since the "hard light" only exists for a very brief period. One has to assume that Kamala will get the other bracelet just as the fifth episode ends because that's how they do it in these shows. Then we have the final confrontation when Kamala puts on the bracelet and goes Super Saiyan. I wonder if it'll be embiggening or some version of that. I thought that maybe the hard light was a kind of compromise because they couldn't figure out how to make stretchy limbs look good. However it did work for me in Doctor Strange: MOM. Very curious indeed.
Genuinely thought the rating would be 1/1 wedding seats 😂
Think of how many America's Funniest Home Videos featured either a bride or a groom passing out while standing up front at their weddings. Dozens! Possibly many dozens! Wouldn't it just be nice to sit down for the wedding? So much embarrassment avoided. lol
I think it's because Aisha also doesn't wanna do it, and then she disappears so that's why they can't wait anymore
I'm loving this show. It's my second favorite of the D+ MCU shows so far.
I love yalls show always so energetic keep making great content 🙏
OK just putting this out there: I may have tried pizza dipped into ice cream in college. Not bad. Chocolate soft serve goes well with pepperoni or cheese. It's kind of like dipping fries in Frosty's but next level.
Oh boy they’re in for a real rough one watching umbrella academy season three. That show is going to make them cry and laugh all at the same time
shang-chi has a powerful bracelet 10 rings logo and a pwoerful signal it was emiting to osmewhere unknown . fast forward to ms marvel we see a 10 rings logo on the floor where they found ms marvels braclet . it also sends a signal that the jjinn can see. they say they need the OTHER braclet. i might be seeing things buit i think ms marvle and sangshi are linked.
4:19 we knew he was a bad guy the minute he called Bruno, "Brian" either that or he just really doesn't want to talk about Bruno. True story.
There was a 10 rings Easter egg I'm not going to say where but it's in there
Alert Kevin Feige! Adam has gotten his hands on the Marvel guidebook for 6-episode storylines.
I'm totally hiring Brown Jovi to my wedding lool
The very traditional old school wedding lasts for three days. There's a good reason they sit. I think even the more modern abbreviated version is typically about three hours.
Is it too early to say this is my favourite family in the MCU? I felt the same about them in the comics, it's a great adaptation.
Opening scene they find the bengal over the 10 rings symbol. The bengal and Shang chi are definitely gonna connect
So, my 14 year old clocked this, but the Auntie wearing yellow who was talking about how fun it is to knock the bride and groom's heads together, she's the voice actress of Symmetra from Overwatch.
Part of me is thinking that the 10 Rings and the Bangle are connected to each other and might end up being important to Kang the Conqueror or something
First time here, you guys are mad funny lol
I think her mom knows the story of what happened but thought they were just made up. Was that the Ten Rings on the ground they were standing on?
Damn it, Jay! I just stopped listening to Jeremy Jordan's version of "She used to be mine" on a loop...for a month! You had to bring him up.
you can get sweet pizza. it is basically bread, just as you can have a ham a cheese sandwich, you can have pb&j. coat it in chocolate sauce or Nutella instead of tomato, sprinkle marshmallows instead of cheese, and there you have a giant s'more pizza.
This was a fun episode!
Darkest episode of them all
i just want to share that i have started singing "looks like I hate it" at things ...you did this to me
I think that the grandmother, the mother and Kamala must be together so the grandmother and mother can tell Kamala everything they know and then, only then, her powers will reach full potential.
This show is growing on me I'm glad I stuck with it
N i love the connection to Clan Destine from the comics n their connection to the Djinn
Everyone who's used to white people weddings (including myself): Wait, you get to sit?! 😂
Just going to point out there is such a thing as sweet pizzas where you top it with nutella and other things like marshmellows, nuts, ice cream. etc. (can't just be an Australian thing)
Did you see the 10 rings on the floor of the temple in the flashback?
That mention of strange flavored ice creams reminds me of a place that had mac n cheese ice cream. It was... disorienting.
The fight scene gave me winter soldier vibes
Hawaiian makes a lot of sense, but how about Bacon instead of Ham. With a big scoop of Vanilla on top like on a piece of pie.
You guys are always my first watch. Ok so we have the 10 rings on the floor and blue arm... are these bangals connected to the 10 rings, do they also have a beacon in them?
