Alesis Strike Pro 1.5 Firmware - Have the Sounds Improved?

- How much have the samples improved with firmware 1.5? I test all 5 new kits and compare the new Big Bird to the Birch Rock (1.3), and Blue Jay Kit (1.0) to see how much better the sounds are.

i think i've owned mine for 2 years.....the hi hat wouldn't work right......then an update fixed it. Ver 1.5 is impressive....i jumped from 1.00 to 1.5 LOL ......the load times are immediate now? Wow. Thanks Alesis
Hi Jason, I used to Admin the Alesis Strike FB page a few years back with you and a few others... Anyway, something very strange has happened with both my Strike modules after updating the firmware to 1.50. Neither module even detects the Hi-Hat or Hi-Hat Controller inputs. I swapped out good cables, thinking that was the issue, but no-go. I just can't understand what it could be. I wonder if anyone else here is experiencing the same issue. you sure it was me? I don't remember that! No idea what the problem might be, maybe you can downgrade to 1.4 and see if it works? I haven't tried going backwards with the firmware, but assume you can?

yes. most of the snare samples have a centre hit, rimshot hit (hitting the snare and rim at the same time), and 'rim shot click' (hitting the rim only)
One question that I'm trying to see if could find online; between the pro and the new pro se, is it worth it buying the pro at this point or getting the pro special edition for the extra money. What are your thoughts??

Juan Duran Santelises the main benefit of the SE is the bigger kick drum and hi-hat. I don’t know if the triggers are different. If I was buying today, I’d probably get the SE unless cash was a limiter. It’s $600 more than the SP and I think the new hi hats and bigger kick drum are worth it. You could make your own kick with an old acoustic shell, but good hi-hats (vh-11/12/13 or ATV hats) are going to be 500-1000 anyway.
They've upgraded the hardware in the SE - the plastic part that kept breaking in the pro is now metal in the SE.
Why didn't you just record your performance as MIDI and then retroactively run it through the module to use whatever kit you want, including future updates like the Big Bird kit you mentioned?

@@cleverdood : If you still have the individual audio tracks, you can use beat detective in pro tools to create a midi track for each piece of the kit, than copy/paste each of those to a single midi track, and presto, you can choose any drum sample kits you like...or just beef up or replace a single instrument at a time, like snare or kick...This is just the reverse of "adding triggers" to acoustic drums.
When you go to pedal in the hi-hit control, are you seeing the screen with chick etc? I'm not seeing it?
The Cartoon Kings I think they removed that with 1.4 and only have foot sensitivity, offset, and splash settings now. There is no calibration either, it’s not supposed to be necessary

Jason, appreciate this video. I'm considering buying the Strike Module. Do you think it will work with my Yamaha DT Xpress e-kit pads? Trying to decide between the Strike module or a 2Box Drumit 5 II.
yes, it should work with any pads, except for the new Roland digital pads (the ones that use USB connectors instead of patch cables). check out 65 Drums channel, he's the best eDrums guy on UA-cam and has reviewed and tested just about everything.
Geoffrey Merrifield hihats and ride cymbals are hard to get compatibility. Yamaha rides for 3 zones take 1 cable. Roland and Alesis rides take 2. And hihats are all made differently.
I don’t know if you are still responding to this video, but I am 1.4 and cannot get into firmware update mode to update to 1.5. I tried holding the record button and powering on, but nothing- just starts like normal. The computer will recognize and try to install firmware, but when I restart it still says “1.4”. Any ideas on how to get into update mode on the module?
It's been a while since I updated it, but I don't think you need to hold record and power on to enter update mode. You just need to hookup the module to your computer via the USB port. Then run the DMG (Mac) or .EXE (windows). It should prompt you through the steps.
What is the cord needed from Module to Mac ?
Just a regular USB "printer cable" as they're often called. It's USB-B (the square end) to USB-A (or USB-C if you have a newer mac)
@@cleverdood What if the printer cable output broke on the module? Can I update the firmware using a MIDI cable (connecting the MIDI out to USB on PC)?
Anybody else think the update has all but screwed with the hi hat behaviour?? My hi hat is very inconsistent in velocity with almost identical strokes.
It was not a problem at all in the previous version.

David Mallon I tried this morning, seems ok to me, except my edge sensor doesn’t work, only the bow. I’m going to take it apart to see if something needs to glued back together.
Jason Little same, it’s just not responsive now. And yes it’s the edge. I doubt it’s your device. Mine was fine before this update an hour ago. Crisp responsive. Now it’s a dull thud or brutally harsh and loud. Dull with fader set anywhere above half but harsh on the occasional hit. They’ve got it wrong in this update. It’s not our hardware..

David Mallon my edge sensor was broken before the update, it doesn’t trigger at all. When I put ‘note chase’ on it doesn’t matter where I hit the hi hat, only the ‘bow’ info shows on the screen. I noticed it about a month ago. I haven’t checked Alesia’ forum to see if anyone else’s was broken by 1.4. Would be nice if it was software though! I was thinking of getting the ATV hats anyway.

Dude i bought this piece of shit kit and even after downloading the 1.5 update, the high hat still is shit!!!...I have followed online tutorials and spent hours to try to tweak the hi hat and it still is shit...i'm selling this piece of shit and going with Roland...
I wouldn't disagree, the HH is still my main complaint with this kit.
I have the Alesis Pro Strike SE and wondering if you have a lot of triggering issues and MIDI coming out correctly to PC. This kit is a pain in the ass and I regret not getting a Roland for an extra $600
