    I love my Strike Pro but have HATED the hat action since day one...I have spent HOURS looking for a fix...this did it. You sir, are a lifesaver. THANK YOU!

      Yes definitely, but also...
      #1) Do this for now
      #2) Call Alesis and ask about the updated hihat spring and they will send you one. It works better needing no mod.
      #3) Follow these steps to ensure trigger muting is not happening. The following have helped with muting, positional(pedal) consistency, and triggering....
      The following is the reason why the ring of the open hihat edge gets muted when hitting the bow directly after and it is definitely fixable!! It MUST be done for each kit you would like to change it on. It's a module feature that can be applied to any trigger! Here how you do it.
      1)Go to desired kit
      2)Click "VOICE"
      3)Change TRIG to hihat edge OR hihat bow.
      4)Click FX/MIDI
      5)Click "OTHER"
      6)Turn "MUTE GROUP" to OFF!!
      7)Repeat for both edge and bow and test.

      VMMJ 1979 your welcome. Feel free to share with anyone having consistency issues. If your consistency is that bad I would start over by setting it up this way, and use the same settings I did, do the hihat reset, then adjust the settings from there.

    Is there a way to increase the closed hi-hat volume without increasing it's open counterpart?

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  2 роки тому +1

      Great question!! Off the top of my head I'm not sure. If it's possible, you can do it in the strike editor. There are volume controls to edit kits' default volume as a whole but I'm not sure about individual samples. MAYBE individual layers which can help those lower layers(closed). You'll have to go into the editor and pick the kit you want to try and select a certain layer and adjust the volume there. Then check a different layer to see if all of them changed or not. Sorry but it's been a couple years since I've used the editor and my laptop is down at the moment.

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  6 років тому

      Hemoria22 Based on the performance of the controller, I wouldn't use this setup for gigs. If you have no hardware issues with hihat pad it would be best to get a GoEdrum controller. Very good results from many people! You won't be able to use the bottom cymbal (which is only for looks) but it will perform 100% better with the GoEdrum controller. Hope this helps you. 👌🏻

    I wanted to let you know this works also for the PRO - X cymbals for the earlier DM 10 X kits. It is a general improvement overall as I use the DM 10 engine and the Roland TD 12 engine with this fix. Instant improvement. I am losing my foot splash (could be a setting ) but the chicks ... open and closed are very reliable now regardless of what engine I use. Thanks!

      Very nice! I believe you're the first one to share that kind of cross platform improvement. PurplEDC Reviews Its good. Although the settings are not 100% yet but it's getting there. Also, I may have been one of the lucky few. There are lots of people who are getting hi hats with dead edges but Alesis has been good at sending free replacements. Some people can't get settings right. And they act different on different hi hat stands.

    I’ve heard the kick pad will wear out fast if you use a double kicker, do you know if this is true? Been thinking about getting this kit since I’ve heard of a lot of improvements but the double kicker is a must for me

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  5 років тому

      No worries brother! I'm not sure where you heard that but it is far from true. The only thing that can wear down the mesh head would be a felt beater as it will eventually burn through. Especially with double bass. Its explained in the kit manual but unfortunately there are many people that dont read it and burn through it with a felt beater and then say the heads are crap. Dont pay attention to that. 👍🏻

    What does the wire the from bottom cymbal to the pressure module do? The hi hat top and the pressure module both connect to module so what does extra wire do?

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  3 роки тому +1

      The bottom cymbal has 3 pressure points equidistant around the edge. When you close the hats it's supposed to help tell the controller it's fully closed as the top hat touches all 3 when fully closed. However it doesn't seem to actually take that into account and depending on your settings you can still get open sounds with them fully closed. I think it was something they were going to impliment more but never got around to it. They had hihat design copyright issues before. Short answer is, not much!

    Great video. Going to sign up for the FB group. Playing Melodics using the Strike Pro and am getting double/triple trigger issues with the kick drum and double triggers (occasionally) with the hi-hat. I think I solved the Kick drum trigger issue by adjusting the retrigger setting from 30 to 65 (not sure if that will cause other issues) but still having issues with the hi-hat. When I adjust the retrigger setting for the hi-hat the double triggers are reduced but does not eliminate the occasional double triggering. If I set the retrigger value too high it just becomes a mess. It appears to be an issue that can be solved but it may take a while. Also need to check out the pedal reset as you mentioned.

      Nice! Have you since updated to 1.4? Sorry for the late reply. Have you solved your issues?

    • @arthousecreations1
      @arthousecreations1 5 років тому +1

      @@johnace8050 Hello John. I've got a 95% solution. For the Kick Drum I changed the curve to EXP2 with minor tweaks to the settings (sensitivity 30 to 38, retrigger 30 to 32 and threshold 28 to 21). For the hi-hat also made some changes (sensitivity to 90, retrigger to 30, threshold to 10); this is for both edge and bow. I understand there is also another setting concerning the pedal but didn't touch those. I eliminated most double triggers on the hi-hat but only can get closed or open hits (no semi-open or semi-closed). What I realized is that the kit has so many adjustments, it just takes time and effort to get the setting that conform to your playing style. BTW: I had 1.4 since day one. Thanks.

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  5 років тому +1

      @@arthousecreations1 yeah it does take a while to learn. And it also takes experimenting. If you're on 1.4 then you might want to dive into the pedal settings also. You can change the curve on your chick sounds and also adjust the setting for the actual physical setup. Theres a setting called offset. That accounts for the space between your hats. It basically changes the point where it senses as closed. Playing with that a little bit may help. As far as semiopen, you may be using an Instrument with little to no semiopen samples. If you start digging into the editor you'll find not all instruments are sampled equally. If it's not that then it's in the settings.

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  5 років тому +1

      Well, I am not exactly sure.... From what I know so far, a Roland VH11 hihat is compatible with your kit. And the Roland VH11 is also compatible with my Alesis Strike. I can only guess that since the Roland vh11 will work with my kit, then my hats SHOULD work with the roland kit that the vh11 came from. And if the vh11 will work on your kit then I'm guessing this one would work on your kit too. I'm not 100% on that but that's my best guess. Good luck. 👍🏻

    May I just say , that for $ 2300 plus tax , there should be NO issues period . I am buying my first electronic kit this week and after about 6 weeks of reading reviews , watching videos, playing demos at GC and talking to people for hours and hours on end . I have researched about 10 kits I was interested in and sorted it out to 3 . I really wanted to buy the regular Alesis Strike kit ( $ 1699 ). But there have been too many complaints about the hi hat , the foam rods in the drums and long download times in the module that I just can't do it . I was also interested in the Yamaha DTX532 ( $999 ) but I don't like the hard rubber pads on the toms . So , I am buying the new Roland TD - 17 KVXS ( $1599 ). I played the TD-17KV at GC and loved the sound and the feel of the pads. I did not like the fixed hi hat or the 2 zone cymbals so I am going with the KVXS which has a hi hat that goes on a real stand and has three 3 zone cymbals. I have not heard of any issues at all with this kit but then again , it is new and has not been time tested. If any problems arise I will certainly let people know about it. I feel bad for you folks who bought the Strike kit and have had all these issues. Alesis should have sorted all this shit out before releasing it to the public. But greed knows no bounds and they decided to use you as guinea pigs . They should be ashamed of themselves AND if it was me , I would send the whole kit back and get my hard earned $$$ back ! I am counting on Rolands reputation as a reliable high quality product. ' Nuff said and I wish all of you the best with the Strike kit. I hope Alesis does the right thing by you.

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  5 років тому +2

      This video in comparison to what has been done is very old. The issue here with the hihat was the spring was too weak. They have already started using a better spring that works like it should. So that issue is gone. The foam columns I wouldn't worry about. It doesnt happen to everyone. And if you cant get them to stick Alesis will replace the entire drum and not ask to return the old one as it's not cost effective. So why not get another free drum and reglue the old towers? That's a win in my book lol. And the long download times have also been taken care of with the 1.4 update. Trust me, the kit is constantly getting better. Most if not all issues have been resolved. Plus if something does happen it's under warranty and will be replaced for free.

    • @johnace8050
      @johnace8050  5 років тому

      You shouldn't feel bad for people though. Alesis is taking care of everything and everyone. Revisions are always being made and changes have been made to numerous designs. Keep in mind this kit is also considered a new kit and also want time tested. That explains the issues, but all are being taken care of. I've also had no issues with mine after getting the new hihat spring and adjusting settings. It's a great kit man you'd be missing out not to get it. Lol Good luck on your shopping brother! And happy drumming.

    • @thetimahawk1
      @thetimahawk1 5 років тому +1

      Thank you John. That is great news. I am glad they resolved the problems. I was not aware of it. I felt bad and was kind of angered that people spent a lot of money on a kit with issues. And your right . The kit is also new and not time tested but although it was new to us , Alesis had it in their hands for a while before it was green lighted. When you use the word Pro in the name of your kit , I feel there should not be any problem. JMO. This has not been an easy decision by any means for me. This back and forth stuff on what to buy is wearing me out . I believe I am going to stick with the Roland TD-17 KVXS. I wish you all the best with your Strike kit and who knows ? If it don't work out for me with this Roland kit a Strike may be in my future ! Keep 'dem sticks in motion ! The Timahawk.

      @@thetimahawk1 you're welcome! And I can completely understand that. But as far as ANY electronics go, some things just fail regardless of brand. But honestly the only real issue with these is the snare center plate cracks after a random amount of time, which like I said you can get a free one under warranty and they won't ask for the old one back which you can just repair yourself and have an extra. And the new snares have a center plate made out of different material now. We talk about all this on the facebook group called Strike Pro Owners Group.
