This was not "dropped" in 2009. It was in 1993 this came out. You know...pre-youtube. Hell, pre almost anything internet. My son makes the same mistake though. I guess it's harder for the younger generation to understand that the internet and youtube were not always around since they grew up with it :)
Hi FtW Fabian, Texas born and raised 🙌🏼 🇨🇱 This song is from bombings happening in the early 90s (England) It’s particularly about 2 boys who died from one of those bombings in 93, they put this song out in 94. Sadly here we are still fighting wars and losing kids to domestic violence. War Not War? what’s the difference, babies are dying 🙏🏼💜😞 I was entering HS and now I have my oldest entering Hs and nothings changed 😩 this song still hits my heart . RIP Dolores, we lost an amazing Irish voice and her guitar solo here is perfect in continuing to convey the message
@FortWorthFabian, at the beginning of the video the lead singer Delores O'Riordan and the young boys all painted gold are supposed to be Angels and the young Angels represent the children who have died in the war in Ireland whereas Southern Independent Ireland tried to liberate Northern Ireland from the control of the British beginning in 1916.
In 1993 in Warrington a British controlled province in Northern Ireland a bombing attack was carried out that wound 52 people and killed two boys ages 3 and 12 years old who were out buying Mother's Day cards.
The 3 year old died 7 hours after the bombing and the 12 year old died nearly 2 weeks later.
The reference "Zombie" speaks of the military forces of the conflict mindlessly carrying out these military actions based on the old ideas of 1916 of Southern Independent Ireland trying to liberate Northern Ireland and the British forces defending the British government control of Northern Ireland.
In the verse by Delores "But you see it's not me, it's not my family, in your head in your head they are fighting" she is saying that the Irish Republic Army (IRA) and the British forces are not her or her family which is Ireland and that her and Ireland have no part or support in this fight.
This song dropped in 1994 brother, not 2009. It's about the conflict in Ireland in the 1990's and in memory of two young boys who died in a bombing during the conflict between the IRA and British forces.
And the UVF UDA UFF etc...Technically it was a three way thing, although the British security forces went up against the IRA and rumoured to have shared information the Loyalist paramilitaries
RIP Dolores o'riordan. An inspirational irish legend
These are the scenes of my youth - I grew up and still live in N. Ireland. The army was everywhere, machine guns were a non-remarkable thing cos they were an every day sight. Bombs & bomb scares were so common that they became almost 'normal'......our so-called 'peace' is still very fragile. Thank you for reacting to this, and R.I.P. Dolores for giving us this song💔....it is part of our history and 'The Troubles'. It's message is overwhelming powerful.
(It was released in the 90's)
I am Canadian, our country has never known any war on its soil in the past 150 years.
Even though the images on TV allow us to see what war is, it certainly is nothing like experiencing war at home.
I would like to share with you these lyrics from Pink Floyd, (Us and Them):
(Us and them - And after all, we're only ordinary men
Me and you - God only knows, it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear - And the front rank died
The General sat, and the lines on the map - Moved from side to side.)
@@claudepage6214 Canada has seen its share of war-With the indigenous, with the Americans, and abroad on behalf of the British
@@richlisola1 Claude is correct in an official capacity in the last 150 years on Canadian soil there hasn't been a war. They had purgings of indigenous people within the country and they have seen war in that time but not within the country itself. Last time the united states went to war with Canada was 1812. After that it was basically like a cold war
Dolores O'Riordan (the singer) wrote this song about children dying in conflict shortly after the Ireland murders. RIP Dolores. Was released in 1993. Things have gotten better in Ireland since then. The Cranberries have a huge catalogue. All of it good. All lyrics written by Dolores. About half the music written by the guitarist Noel but the rest is all Dolores. She also made two solo albums which are just as good.
Dolores and all the people of Ireland, I'm so sorry for his reaction!!!
Thank you
Can't sorry stupid
"I don't know anything about the cranberries"
I'm about to see a soul grow!
The cranberries is the BEST band ever
It's more about the collateral damage that happens during war, children especially. She's basically calling out both sides for the pointless violence that costs innocent lives. This hit when I was in high school and it was everywhere. Such a powerful song. RIP Delores
I love this song! So close to my heart. This is about the IRA bombing in Warrington I think in 1993 where two boys were killed! Beautiful song by a beautiful soul. Try ‘Ode to my family’ . It’s one of my favourites and is so reminiscent of family life growing up in Ireland! Thank you! X
Warrington is my home town. I wasn’t there at the time of the bombing but I remember my cousin telling me that her house shook when the bombs went off.
My family is from Ireland. We had here in Deerfield Massachusetts, are hole town was massive massacred by the French and British army,!!@@ 230 woman, children , so it still doesn't make sense,
I'm 49 now, Cranberries came back from a tour and Dolores wrote this for the mum's. HONESTLY makes me cry every time!❤️🏴
The video is from 1994/5 and the song was written after a bombing in the UK and the background is Northern Ireland where the 'troubles' basically
a mini civil war between some protestants and catholic's had been going on for 30 years and came to a truce which is still going on today a few years
after this song was made. Dolores died sadly a few years ago which is a loss to music. There 1999 Paris performance of Zombie live is on u'tube
and a better version imo and at the start she says why they wrote this song.......cheers for vid...... ua-cam.com/video/8MuhFxaT7zo/v-deo.html
She was amazing. Her beautiful soul is so dearly missed. Fly high angel. Your voice was a gift to us all.
No set, baby. Northern Ireland during the “ Troubles “
Thank you for the reaction, this is an epic song. The band "Bad Wolves" did the cover and nailed too.
@ShariSez1 Your opinion, and thats ok
Delores should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously
Thanks for reacting! Subscribed!
In my opinion, The Cranberries is the best band of 90s. They have more than 10 great hits.
Better than Nirvana, better than Oasis, better than Pearl jam, better than the Smashing pumpkins and better than Radiohead.
Grettings from Spain.
@ShariSez1 opinions are opinions, maybe if you hear their cover In the ghetto (Elvis) you would change that perception

I am not very into 90s music but the Cranberries are my absolute number one.
It is about the war in northern Ireland and Great Britain..the soldiers are the "zombies " and the high pitched yodel she sings is called Keening, it traditionally done at Irish funerals
I love this song too. It reminds me of the ending from the movie, "Boyz in the Hood, when Icecube says this to Ricky,"Either they don't know, don't show or don't even care what's going on in the Hood." Very similar to what the singer is saying. People act like zombies when they don't care or not aware of what's going on around us.
RIP Dolores...this was done in protest to two kids being killed I think in two separate bombings. She was to do a version of this song with the bad wolves but passed the day before. You should hear their version in tribute and it’s very clever how the two videos are tied together. The bad wolves donated all monies from their release to her children
It's all about the south catholics and the north protesnds, this fight has been going on for 150 years
Fort Worth loved your reaction look up the Irish troubles it puts the song into perspective❤️😀👍✌️🌼Love and peace
The song was inspired by the IRA bombing in Warrington, Cheshire, England on March 20, 1993. Two children, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, were killed. The IRA (Irish Republican Army) is a militant group that was determined to remove British troops from Northern Ireland.
"Zombie" speaks about "the Irish fight for independence that seems to last forever." The lyrics even say, "It's the same old theme since 1916."
This song takes the unassailable position that killing young children is tragic, but in venturing into the political fray, it created a great deal of controversy.
Getting painted for the video was O'Riordan's idea. The symbolism, It was to make it magnificent in a way, at the cross. It was metaphoric for all the pain that was being caused, and it was slightly religious as well."
RIP Delores O’Riordan ✝️
The song actually came out in 1994
There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin - that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken. [ ... ] We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard - I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. So I suppose that's why I was saying, 'It's not me' - that even though I'm Irish it wasn't me, I didn't do it. Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension_Dolores O'Riordan.
Dolores voices gives me chills every time still to this day
I feel so blessed because… I saw her live in concert back in the 90s. 🤗🙌
I do hope FortWorthFabian reads some of these comments in order to understand what this song is actually about. This felt more like an advertisement and clout chasing rather than a reaction
This song actually was released in 1993.

Hey man I would love to see you react to "Promises" (live in Paris in 1999) by The Cranberries. It´s an amazing performance!!
this song makes me cry every time, close to me in Friesland there was a big stash place for the ira (dutch)
She grew up in a care home like myself either sexually emotionally or physically abused this song is perfect for peeps like us💯
They did this video on location in Ireland
That's here in my city of belfast northern ireland, , it's about IRA bombing and the troubles here
Delores drunk herself to death, very special person and she had the voice of a angel
Honestly, I thought the Irish flag made it obvious where it was. But I'm not gonna bothering ranting on meaning. Gauranteed it's here 50x already lol.
"Some war?" Do yourself a favor and and prepare, particularly when a recorded piece is about so much more than the music! You might want to start by learning about England's bloodthirsty reign of terror throughout the so-called third world for the last couple of hundred years. Then read about the civil war in Ireland that has lasted for over a century, and which nearly all English speaking people, world-wide, have known about for at least the last 50 years.
It is about the war in Northern Ireland
no one will ever react to it, but this is for Cranberries fans who may not have seen it - checkout Cranberries covering Fleetwood Mac's "Go your own way". drummer kills!!! live Paris 1999
R.I.P. Deloras check out different vibes from cranberries linger and dreams r beautiful
RIP DOLORES ... 💔
Now you need to watch Bad Wolves' cover of this song which came out in 2018, the lead singer from that group Tommy Vext, he nailed it perfectly
The English & Irish were at war ,they are British soldiers you see in the vid,Dolores experienced a bomb incident,in england where 2 children were killed by an IRA bomb,,its always the children that suffer ,
Northern Ireland....its about children killed in the constant violence that has been happening for decades there. RIP Dolores.
The video is so powerful incorporating Actual footage of British troops patrolling Northern Ireland. Juxtaposed with boys acting out war games in the streets, the fire band, with the theatrical golden people.
That last great decade of music in my mind especially genre wise.... Nirvana Unplugged bro next...
Not your fault, but you so don’t understand what’s going on in this video. Or the history behind it.
🇮🇪 Ireland
The video is showing the conflict in The North of Ireland, Look at the murals.. Republican and Loyalist. There's a mural of Derek Wood & David Howes, 2 British soldiers who were caught and executed by I.R.A. The big question is, what were 2 British soldiers doing at an I.R.A funeral???
Not symbolism this was reality for the Irish.
@02:37 "Let's see what kinda story they're tryin' to tell"...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrington_bombings
The songs about north of ireland but the band is from the republic of Ireland so the band Irish not british
Dolores O'Riordan is no longer with us, R.I.P.
I watch reactions to a variety of different things, pride myself on early good judgement, your a proper one heads up, little research before you react to certain song's that mean a lot (everything) to certain people. Love your honesty 👍👍
This is bigger than just a song...
This was a protest song against the mindless violence that killed innocents
Ireland 😓😓😓😓
Do a reaction of AVS "Uncomparable" 🎶
Check out Bad Wolves cover if you dare.
React to Dolores O’Riordan - Black Widow
