The worst part of giving a talk in church for me is when people tell you how good it was afterwards. I just wish everyone would pretend like I never did anything!
Lots of people have social anxiety, including me. Maybe they want to congratulate you because they are putting themselves in your shoes and thinking: You did good, maybe I can do it too! ;)
I recommend going to the park and giving your talk off the top of the slide, like right before you go down it. It is a great platform and you can give your talk off of it imagining there are people below it. It was a fantastic experience for me and I actually memorized my talk word for word after doing it a few times. I now don't need to even bring a paper with me.
yep i'm 12 and while I was getting my temple recommend yesterday the bishopric member asked me to give a talk. i'm so worried and i can't put it off because all next week i'm at high adventure and can't write!!
This video made me laugh so much. Thank you for sharing your unscripted insights. I have a talk to give on the February 14 and it's about an especially noble calling. I think giving talks is an especially noble calling. Your video helped me get rid of some of my anxieties and replaced them with happy thoughts. Thanks guys!
Thank you for this video topic. I'm a fairly new convert and I know the Bishop will soon give me the eye, and my time will be shortly here. When it comes I will of course rewatch the video about a dozen times...well not quite a dozen.
I have to give a talk June 11 ,2023 however I'm nervous about being nervous because public speaking isn't my thing at all . But I have a personal desire to speak, because it's another way to grow spiritually!
@@greenshrek488 oh wow I forgot I ever saw this video! 😂 my mission was great! I learned a lot about myself and my relationship with Christ, and a lot of life skills. Especially how to give a talk! I actually really enjoy giving talks now 😂
I always laughed at the little girls who start their testimonies with I love my Father, I love my Mother, I love my sisters, I love my brothers, I know the church is true. Amen. LOL!...... I remember giving talks as a kid. No matter the advice I would get, I couldn't look at the congregation. I would just read my prepared five minute talk and slink away back to my family. ha! 😂
So I've been itching to give a talk since GC and finally got assigned one for my stake's YSA mini Convention! Super keen! At first I thought they were going to assign me the token marriage talk since I'm one of the few if not only in the stake who's engaged, but I was relieved when I was given the topic "unity"! This is only my second talk but I'm super keen! I was just going to start preparing for it when I got a notification for this video! Perfect timing, 3 Mormons! Thanks for the tips!
Gave the talk on Sunday. I was the first speaker and at least three people referred to my talk in their talks and testimonies afterward so I'd say it was pretty good!! Thanks for the tips!
I like Kwaku's advice on when moving into a new ward and trying to get to know people: volunteer to give a talk. I think I might try that! I hate being the new into a congregation. I don't like being put on the spot for attention but I also don't like to feel forgotten and ignored. I mean, giving talks isn't as scary for me anymore since I've given more than three talks in less than 6 months. Although the intensity of waiting to go up and give a talk is real!
First time I heard "Chicago Format" was when I had to write my first 10 page paper in college. 🤔 Every HS teacher ever: You will only need to use MLA/APA
Normally when I get a talk it’s because while walking to church on fast sunday I have an Idea of what to say, then I ask if it to long from the bishop. Sometimes he says no, but when he says yes he tells me two days later to make it into a talk. So I’ve never had a talk with topic the bishopric assigned to me.
Thanks guys! I'm new, hence my profile pic. choice of dress. 😄. Seriously though, this video was very helpful and I know it will help me when I have to do my first talk and my husband is being baptized this Saturday and he has to give his testimony and he's nervous about it so I'm sending him this. I really appreciate all the videos you do, your work means a lot to me and I'm sure you helped a lot of other people as well. I watch a video every morning with my cup of Pero.👍😉
My first talk I tried bullet points and all I read were the bullet points... After that I wrote it down. Then I went on my mission and still wrote it out, but the two talks since my mission (just got back 2 months ago) were bullet points (ish).
Could you do a video on advice for attending BYU as a freshman, what to expect and also different aspects like being a student athlete, that kind of thing, I'm attending this year and kinda nervous about everything 😬 which is normal but I'm sure a lot of good advice or tricks you guys may have learned would be much appreciated and helpful to everyone going to college! Thank you! LOVE your videos! They're very clear and funny!

I'm writing a talk on divine nature. I wanted to briefly address that divine nature, although commonly associated with women, is a value that applies everyone. I don't understand why that distinction between genders was made in the first place.
Over correction. 100 years ago speakers would only talk about the divine nature of men, so in an attempt to get people to understand that it applied to both genders an effort was made to help women, particularly young girls, they had just as much of a divine nature. The pendulum has swung.
my talks are filled with jokes. i try to talk about spiritual experiences rather than spewing numerous scriptures. i find in the caribbean that's the way to keep people interested. but recently, i've been really enjoying speaking during fast and testimony service. like i totally wing those. i still don't do a lot of scriptures there either. i know i may be wrong but i want people to feel the spirit first then the scriptures later. i mean i know people would think that's soooo not what we do but coming from the girl who almost fainted at the podium during her first talk i think that's pretty good -drops the mic- sassymormon out!
I love people giving talks I have only given One speach In my life I made half The audience cry haha. I have social anxiety that is fun. But it was A great experience. I had A weird experience today with The spirit it was almost like no but maybe feeling AS I got talked to In The church I am member Of Evangelical Lutheran church about what I Had thought and prayed about but It was not The feeling i Get when I See A talk from The church Of Jesus Christ Of later day saints that answers my prayer. I dont Get why?
Legit I said no thank you and they all pushed me to do the talk until I broke and said yes. Literally he got 2 other people and my parents just legit pushed and pushed me until I said yes.
So as a “Born-Again” Christian I am mystified by Mormonism. Think about it... The Bible was written by around 40 authors from 3 different continents. These men came from all walks of life, from shepherds to physicians. This happened over a span of 1,500 years and ALL of their letters ( books) spoke of the very same God in minute detail. These letters even included prophecy, things that either had not happened yet or things that man could not have known. For example: Job 26:7b: “and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” This was written during the Bronze Age. This would have made no sense to mankind at the time. The concept of the earth suspended upon absolutely nothing? No way! Especially considering that the Greeks, considered to be great thinkers of the day had the god Atlas holding our planet upon his shoulders. Ancient Hindu writings explained that earth sat on the back of a great elephant who was standing upon a giant turtle swimming in a cosmic sea. And yet, those fables are not found in Gods love letter to his creation. He simply states the truth...there are so many more examples, but you get the idea. Now, along comes Joseph Smith less than 200 years ago and he says an angel (Moroni) appeared to him and told him that the Bible and all religions on earth had been corrupted and could not be trusted. No real prophecy, no archaeological evidence to support his story...NOTHING!! No only is there no evidence to support Smiths assertions but actually there is ample evidence to refute his claims. Whenever I ask Mormons about this, I get answers that essentially say that they “just know it’s true”. They FEEL IT. This is a emotional response. So here is my problem. Gods Word is emphatic that there is only ONE GOD...(Isaiah 45:5) This God created all that was created (John 1:3) For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23-27). The Apostle Paul says “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” Additionally, Galatians 1:8-9 says this... “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Did you get that? Joseph Smith claims an angel told him of “ a “further revelation”. SoundS like EXACTLY what Paul was warning about in his letter to the Galatians. Okay, here is the situation for all our Mormon friends. You have two choices, one choice leads to everlasting life, the other leads to eternal death and destruction. If the Bible is true, you are following a faith that cannot save and you are on your way to ETERNAL DEATH. If Mormonism is true, than God was a liar, His Son Jesus died for nothing and you can be one of millions of gods. Based on the overwhelming evidence that the Bible is much more true that Mormonism lets on, you as a Mormon need to repent and turn from your self righteous ways and stop trying to be good ( Isaiah 64:6) and allow God to change you from within with the forgiveness His Son Jesus provided for you. Do this before it is eternally too late and you will avoid what will happen too most people( Matthew 7:13-14).
I prefer option C, that evangelical Christians (whom are far more obnoxious and condescending in forcing their religion upon others) and Mormons are both suffering from mass delusion. The Bible has plenty of holes and inconsistencies (Noah's Ark and the Epic of Gilgamesh) and Mormonism is reliant on the confusing visions by Joseph Smith. Simple.
pro tip: end your talk with "That's all I got for today, folks. Be sure to smash that like button, subscribe, ring that bell, and follow us over on Instagram so you never miss a new video. Byeeeeeeeee."
