    Smith married his second wife (Fanny Alger) in 1833 several years before executive order 44 was made in 1838. Sorry Glenn but your excuse fails.
    “Once they came to Utah polygamy stopped”. Just false. Polygamy kept on until Utah Statehood became a factor.

    How can Christians possibly accuse Mormons of polygamy?
    Such hypocrisy.

    • @theruteger

      Ann Long and lindalds I've investigated the church and it makes LESS sense the more you study! I talked to a bishop that said he HAS to leave LOGIC out when he is dealing with matters with faith--this is the same impression ive been given by SEVERAL Mormons! The Church says only pray to Heavenly Father, despite the fact prayers to Jesus are found in ALMA 38:8, 3 NEPHI 19:18, D&C 109:42, and Jesus is ORDERED to be BOWED and WORSHIPED in 2 Nephi 25:29. Mormons do NOT pray to Jesus, the extent of their Jesus worship is "following his example" and "being in awe and reverence of him," Apostle Bruce McConkie said Mormons DO NOT WORSHIP JESUS. Also, the Mormon God is NOT OMNIPRESENT and CANNOT BE, thats NO A GOD at all, He is not all powerful! ironically, only the "light of Christ" is omnipresent--and its not even a person!
      The LDS doctrine about Jesus being God makes no sense at all, since Jesus was God before he had a physical body or "married." The LDS Holy Ghost no one has a clue who He is or where He is from, one person told me He might be Heavenly Father's brother or come from another god all together.
      Then you have apostles and prophet calling black people N*ggers in General Conference and declaring insane doctrines like Adam is Heavenly Father (Brigham Young taught this for 20 YEARS) and he was Prophet longer than ANYONE after him! God did not take Brigham out for misleading the church!
      Missionaries told me they do not have answers, but I will get answers after im baptized and confirmed. Now if the missionaries are baptized and confirmed, why don't they have the answers then?
      Many religions thru out the world try to reconcile faith and reason--the Mormons substitution REASON with FEELINGS.
      Mormons faith is ALL FEELINGS, being HAPPY. It makes NO SENSE. So much of Mormonism is just parroting, repeating what you are told to think and feel. So many Mormons lie about how they feel, or just lie in general without realizing it. I can't tell you how many times Mormons told me "I promise" and were the "promise" never happened. Feelings cannot produce REAL results.

    • @theruteger
      @theruteger 9 років тому +1

      lindalds "Jesus said to pray to the Father. Jesus never said to pray to Him. "
      me: So were the people in the Acts 7:59, all the verses in the BoM and D&C wrong to pray to Jesus then? Many Bibles btw in John 14:13-14 has Jesus telling to ask JESUS in His name. Joseph Smith prayed to Jesus in D&C 109, so why does the LDS discourage praying to Jesus?
      you:And preaching His gospel, and following His commandments.
      me: The BoM says to BOW DOWN to Him and worship with all your being! Its the same language used for worshiping Heavenly Father! So why is Jesus given second class status?
      you:[about omnipresence and omnipotence of God]I don't know where you got that. I know I've never heard that before.
      me: I found this out from talking to missionaries, sunday school teachers and a Institute teacher.
      For example Gospel Principles says about the Holy Ghost:
      "He can be in only ONE PLACE AT A TIME, but His influence can be everywhere at the same time" (Chapter 7 pg 32).
      Also, D&C 130:9 says the Father and Son cannot be in a believers heart:
      John 14:23-The appearing of the Father and the Son, in that verse, is a personal appearance; and the idea that the FATHER and the SON DWELL in a man’s HEART is an old sectarian notion, and is FALSE.--D&C 130:9
      Also, I should mention
      The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.--DC 130:22
      The D&C misquotes Joseph and makes him say the OPPOSITE of what he said which was:
      “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s. The Son also, but the Holy Ghost is a personage and a person cannot have the personage of the H[oly] G[host] in his heart.” see here www.boap.org/LDS/Parallel/1843/2Apr43.html
      Then again, the church and even Joseph REWROTE D&C so much its unbelievable, they say the bible is corrupt, but if the general authority can change scripture, how is it scripture?
      you:Jesus is Jehovah, the God of the Old Testament.
      me: And the OT calls Jehovah "Elohim"--which is supposed to the the Father! Also, Jesus did not have a physical body yet in the Old Testament, His Father did, but Jesus was able to become God without going thru the marriage and physical body process that everyone else would have to! At the Institute the teacher said it was because Jesus was a pure spirit (though technically we would ALL be since we were all supposedly born of the same union of "celestial" parents). The ordinary progression is spirit>body>sealed marriage>godhood, but Jesus went spirit>godhood>body>marriage (if you believe the old general authority)
      you:So, one person is confused, so ALL Mormons are confused.
      Can I use that with you, what one (non-LDS) Christian thinks, ALL of them think?
      me: Actually, I am not aware of any Mormon teaching on this matter. The person I asked was an Institute teacher. He said the origin of the Holy Ghost is speculation. This is pretty consistent with others too. If the Holy Ghost is of the Father, then He is not the First born spirit son, since Jesus is supposed to be. How is the HG a god, if He NEVER got a physical body or presumably is not married yet? BTW past presidencies said the Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost are two SEPARATE things. In the old days Holy Spirit was just another way of saying "light of Christ." If we go even further back, Lectures of Faith in the Old D&C seems to say the Holy Ghost is not a person, but the mind of the Father and Son, though still a trinity somehow.

      That's the most backwards statement I've ever heard. Perhaps that's true of you only listen to what the church say, and ignore anything that contradicts it, and especially if you don't research the church documents that they never tell people about and don't want you know the truth, let alone all the non-church documents about smiths life, the founding of Mormonism, the fact that even the people listed in the beginning of the book of Mormon as having sworn seeing the plates with their own eyes later admitted that they only saw them with their 'spiritual eyes(i.e. they didn't actually see them at all), etc., etc., etc. Mormonism is literally the most easily disprovable religion ever. More so than even Scientology, or ancient "religions" like the Greek and Roman pantheons.

    What most of you probably don't know is that there are SO many missionaries that come home. My brother went on his, and he knew three guys that left of their own will. If you wan't to leave, you can just leave. Your not kept there. And there are so many that do such stupid things on their missions. Remember, these are 18-19 year old kids. They're out there, and many of them will do really bad things. And other's will do what they said they'd do. So it's not so brainwashy as a lot of you think.

    • @DJ7223

      Tim Spangler You must not be familiar with brainwashing in the manner you mean. To do that kind of cult brainwashing, you need to isolate the individual, away from others, even other possible brainwashies (for lack of better word). You have to make sure the only belief that is going into them is yours. They can't have other's telling them different spins that may possibly contradict the other. We send these boys out to multiple places in the world, where they see all kinds of religions and ways of life. Their flooded by the culture. Let me tell you about my life. I would wake up, read scriptures, than go and do school, and than watch youtube way to much during the day, go to work, come home, say a prayer, and go to bed. When I was like 8 or nine, I didn't even read scriptures, and I'd play video games or watch tv all day. That's how it's been. That is my life in a nut shell. Does this sound like I have been brainwashed?

    • @timspangler8440

      DJ7223 I am not trying to be disrespectful. Far from it. But it still comes down to content, and the viability of it. JWs distribute their message with (somewhat) integrity. It's all about the message.

      DJ7223 Where did you get that out of what I wrote? Not only do I say that LDS missionaries are great kids, I like a lot of LDS, who are as moral as they come. But that is the problem. They think that they are moral enough. It will NEVER happen. Grace is UNdeserved, and you or I can NEVER deserve what is UNdeserved.

    • @Mockturtlesoup1

      @@viajero1004 that's assuming Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Which we can prove he isn't, since he failed the test for being a prophet put forth in the bible(i.e., he made prophecies that were false/failed to come true.)
      Not to mention everything we know about Joseph Smith and his history of being a sort of mystical con man(including using seer stones to find gold and treasure, which he was even arrested for), the fact that he didn't even use the golden plates to translate the book of Mormon at all, that he couldn't accurately reproduce a new translation when the originals were hidden at the recommendation of what's-his-name's wife, the kinder hook plates, the book of Abraham, etc. etc. etc. Mormonism is literally the most easily disposable religion there is(even more so than Scientology.)

      +Mark Goodair I heard something about wars occuring at that time when polygamy was common and since there was no wars there was no need for that. It was illegal in some states even when the church said it was ok.

    • @rhece123
      @rhece123 8 років тому

      +halfhumanhalfzombie You do realize that States (not the states of america, just individual states) had declared war/extermination orders on Mormons right? That's not even talking about how the pastors of other religions organized religous mobs to attack drive out and burn down Mormons and their homes.
      Armed mobs would often come into Mormon settlements at night and drive everyone out of their houses and then taking everything they owned as property of the mob. Then they would force the Mormons to leave or be killed, so the Mormons would be forced to pay the mob in order to regain some things they owned in order to be able survive leaving. Not things of personal value, rather things like food, shoes, and other traveling necessities. Sometimes the Mob wouldn't be so gracious and just drive the Mormons out in their night clothes, that where the Mormons would leave bloody footprints because of the snow freezing their feet.
      There was most certainly a war going on, just not one declared by the federal government.

    • @rhece123
      @rhece123 8 років тому

      +Mark Goodair Utah was already apart of the union as the Deseret territory, because of that when the United States passed the law against polygamy the Utah area was put under that effect too. The reason why we did stop is two-fold one the persecution lightened up so it was not needed anymore. Second is our beliefs in keeping the laws of where ever we live, except if the law is to break the commandments of God. This is summed up in the 12 Article of Faith. (The 13 Articles of Faith are a brief summary of Mormon Beliefs)
      "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law."

    • @rhece123
      @rhece123 8 років тому

      +halfhumanhalfzombie So there were wars going on for Mormons. Afterwords it was no longer needed, also our beliefs is that we will obey the laws of the land we live as long as it is not forcing us to break the commandments of God, So when the U.S. passed the law outlawing Polygamy because of our beliefs we followed it. There are some groups of people who believe in the Book of Mormon in mexico and Canada that still do practice polygamy but they are break offs that don't follow the prophets and subsequently are not Mormon.

  • @bonniewillis42

    Glenn, when I was growing up in the church (I'm 55 now), I was disturbed by the early church history of polygamy. I was told the same story you are telling now, that because so many Mormon men were killed for their beliefs, that there were numerous widows and fatherless children left behind who needed men to "take care of them". Being a good Mormon girl who wanted to be able to understand and accept this repugnant practice, I bought the story. I was a teenager who looked to my elders for guidance. You are a grown man, and you should be embarrassed to be defending the practice of polygamy in the early church. The information is out there now, whereas for the first 150+ years it was hidden away in church archives. It can't be hidden anymore (one good thing about the information age), so the only way the church members can avoid the ugly truth is to bury their heads in the sand. The ugly truth is that Joseph Smith married at least 33 women, many of whom had living, supporting, husbands!! There was no financial support offered to the women of whom JS was their only husband, either. You made the cute, smarmy remark that you have trouble with your one wife....how many men can support multiple wives and households? The early Mormon men couldn't either. The fundamentalist groups have it figured out....welfare. The ugly truth is that the fundamentalists more closely resemble the early church than the mainstream church of today does. Please take your head out of the sand and do some real research. You are not fooling anyone by repeating the church's sanitized version of it's history.

      This is straight from the LDS website
      (www.lds.org/topics/plural-marriage-in-kirtland-and-nauvoo?lang=eng)
      "After receiving a revelation commanding him to practice plural marriage, Joseph Smith married multiple wives and introduced the practice to close associates. This principle was among the most challenging aspects of the Restoration-for Joseph personally and for other Church members"...."Although the Lord commanded the adoption-and later the cessation-of plural marriage in the latter days, He did not give exact instructions on how to obey the commandment. Significant social and cultural changes often include misunderstandings and difficulties. Church leaders and members experienced these challenges as they heeded the command to practice plural marriage and again later as they worked to discontinue it after Church President Wilford Woodruff issued an inspired statement known as the Manifesto in 1890, which led to the end of plural marriage in the Church."
      Does this not sound a little fishy to anyone? And this is straight from the official LDS website!!!

      Glenn Beck is either LYING or is IGNORANT of Mormon history. In the Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, section 132 deals with POLYGAMY ~~~ and is STILL IN FORCE TODAY (at June 2018).
      "Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded July 12, 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant and the principle of plural marriage. Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, evidence indicates that some of the principles involved in this revelation were known by the Prophet as early as 1831. See Official Declaration 1.
      1-6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant; 7-14, The terms and conditions of that covenant are set forth; 15-20, Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21-25, The strait and narrow way leads to eternal lives; 26-27, The law is given relative to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost; 28-39, Promises of eternal increase and exaltation are made to prophets and Saints in all ages; 40-47, Joseph Smith is given the power to bind and seal on earth and in heaven; 48-50, The Lord seals upon him his exaltation; 51-57, Emma Smith is counseled to be faithful and true; 58-66, Laws governing plural marriage are set forth.".
      Joseph Smith states:
      "For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.".
      Section 132 is still in force, not only teaching polygamy, but ordering it! Note that it is an "everlasting covenant", i.e. it lasts forever, cannot be cancelled. You can read Section 132 here:
      www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/132?lang=eng
      Brigham Young: "Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 266).
      He also stated: "The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 11, page 269).
      How, then, can the Mormon church say that it does NOT approve of polygamy today? /

    According to the bible, Abraham Isaac and Jacob, were all polygamists and entered into their exaltation and glory sitting down with the Father and the Son. So polygamy in itself is not a sin, more likely the misunderstanding of men as to when it is authorized. I'm not for polygamy but I am for truth.

Second, Indians, blacks, CPUSA members, Irish immigrants, etc., suffered persecution too. So? You're not being persecuted now, not for a long time, unless you count social stigma as persecution. In fact, the LDS church is filthy rich. It's Christians in Utah that have social and business disadvantage, not Mormons. What are you whining about? Shirley Sirman it's documented that Joseph Smith has anywhere where 27-33 wives. Some as young as 14 & some were already married to other men.
      D&C 132:58-66 CLEARLY documents this as celestial law. But Mormons always rationalize it & say it only applies to the early church history. Problem is, Mormonism claims to be a restoration of the gospel message. So, the idea that there's something to be contextually meticulous about is a VERY weak position to take.

      Direct quote from Joseph Smith less than one month before he was killed: "What a thing it is for a man to be accused of committing adultery, and having seven wives, when I can only find one. I am the same man, and as innocent as I was fourteen years ago; and I can prove them all perjurers."
      (History of the Church, vol 6, p. 411) Joseph Smith made this statement preaching from the stand to the Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo on Sunday May 26, 1844. At the time he had at least 34 wives. The statement was made less than one month before he was killed in a gunfight on June 27, This is one very obvious example of Joseph Smith's lying publicly.
      Surely Glenn Beck knows this???
      When the mob approached the cell, Joseph fired a pepperbox pistol into the crowd, wounding three men, probably killing at least one of them. (Dallin H. Oaks and Marvin S. Hill, Carthage Conspiracy, the Trial of the Accused Assassins of Joseph Smith).

      This admission was reported in The New York Times Nov. 10, 2014: "Mormon leaders have acknowledged for the first time that the church’s founder and prophet, Joseph Smith, portrayed in church materials as a loyal partner to his loving spouse Emma, took as many as 40 wives, some already married and one only 14 years old."
      >>>>>> In the Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, section 132 deals with POLYGAMY. The introduction reads:
      "Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded July 12, 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant and the principle of plural marriage. Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, evidence indicates that some of the principles involved in this revelation were known by the Prophet as early as 1831. See Official Declaration 1:------
      1-6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant; 7-14, The terms and conditions of that covenant are set forth; 15-20, Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21-25, The strait and narrow way leads to eternal lives; 26-27, The law is given relative to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost; 28-39, Promises of eternal increase and exaltation are made to prophets and Saints in all ages; 40-47, Joseph Smith is given the power to bind and seal on earth and in heaven; 48-50, The Lord seals upon him his exaltation; 51-57, Emma Smith is counseled to be faithful and true; 58-66, Laws governing plural marriage are set forth.".
      Joseph Smith stated: "For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.".

He pretends that his cult was, and is actively persecuted, for his/their beliefs. and That "you just don't understand, unless you where one of us." He is suffering for his beliefs just as Joseph Smith suffered having to sleep with all 40 wives. Just like the prophet suffered by having people join his religion and make him wealthy. He humbly named himself general and Mayor of his people.. Just like the poor suffering Glenn Beck suffers today with is millions of dollars, and national media reach, his books and speaking engagements and no one questioning his personal business, like how much money he is paid by interests he protects on his show? @@jamesbayless5842 The mobs were the culprits. Then, Governor Ford of Illinois did little to help. Latter Day Saints needed to prepare to abandon the city. The winter of 1845-46 saw the enormous preparations for the Mormon Exodus via the Mormon Trail. In early 1846, the majority of the Latter Day Saints left the city. On September 10, 1846, a mob of about 1,000 anti-Mormons besieged Nauvoo. It was brutal. Miraculously , only 3 of the fewer than 150 Mormon defenders were killed, and skirmishing left wounded on both sides. About a week later, on September 16, Daniel H. Wells and the Mormon leadership of Nauvoo surrendered to the mob and arranged for their people's evacuation from the town and expulsion across the Mississippi River into the then Iowa Territory. The Winter was cold and devastating, leaving many more people, especially women and children, to die from exposure and starvation. It is a chapter in American history that is criminally ignored.

    Anybody who has *not* gone to our church with the sincere wish to truly learn what we sincerely believe- I sincerely say this- *Stop talking like you know what we believe*.
    As a church that was organized in America (When the First Amendment of the United States Bill of Rights was still respected), we have a RIGHT- let me repeat that- *A RIGHT* to say what we believe in as much as you do! And the people loyal to the church believe in it as much as you atheists don't! You have NO right to hinder the practice of others' beliefs. Do we, as a church, go mobbing public schools, holding up unkindly worded protest signs, shouting unfriendly remarks when a teacher doesn't believe in God,, miracles, gender roles, or anything else Christian? No. So don't do anything similar to us. You are a bigot in the most grammatically true sense of the word if you will treat others with such unfair intolerance just because you don't agree with them!
    We know what we believe. You can't read minds. Stop acting like you do. Go to an active Latter-Day-Saint, and ASK them what they believe. They will tell you. Have any questions about our church on matters/information that disturb you? Ask the church's members- not extremely unfair, unkind, biased websites, books, media, or individuals! We have a LOT of material to our beliefs- it will take time to look through all of them and understand them- but give it everything you've got before jumping to any conclusion. Our church has a centrally planned organization, and it has services for answering non-member's questions.
    Also, in the church's history, LOTS of unfair, extravagant lies have been spread about our church by ex-members (many who were excommunicated for good reasons) and other biased so-called Christians (Who in practice did very UN-Christian things) and neighbors. So don't ever believe the first disturbing "fact" about Mormons that hits your ears: It is unlikely to be true- and if it is true, and bothers you- go ask respectfully for an explanation. You want Mormon beliefs? Here is a good start: from the website that any good Mormon goes to for information:

      @DAPTXDC4869 8 років тому +1

      David Brown Did you read that page? It was to *clarify* information and misconceptions about the church, not "Admit the doctrinal incorrectness of the church". The church has a system in place for the excommunication of members who have committed serious offenses against the laws of God and, in some cases- the government. That means that no member of this church is considered to be automatically "qualified" as righteous. I even learned in my seminary class that a group of people with such a mindset were told to repent. Indeed, we do often stress that the Savior, Jesus Christ, is our one and only perfect example.
      We- The *members* of the church- are not perfect- and any member of this church who thinks they are qualified for the highest degree of glory in heaven for simply becoming a member of the church either does not understand the church's doctrine on salvation, is spreading lies with destructive or prideful intent, or is simply parroting lies. However, I do firmly believe that God has ordained this *church organization* to be his one and only true church on the Earth- and that the *commandments, laws, and doctrines* we have are indeed from the mouth of God himself or his true, ordained servants. All members of our church- from the ones with the least to the most authority- are a work in progress.
      And sometimes, God gives us commands that even *we* don't understand at the time they're given- or particularly want to do- such as plural marriage. But, as Abraham was willing to obey the command to kill his long-waited-for and much loved son, Isaac- and was blessed for his obedience to God- so do we (some of us) still follow God's commandments for all their difficulty. But, it wouldn't be surprising if many- given the same commandment from God that Abraham was given- would refuse to obey, or even fight against God for the commandment. Others still, can be misguided, and even Judas, one of the original twelve apostles- betrayed Jesus for temptation. God's chosen individuals can become God's fallen, perditious individuals- and much of the history of our church attests to that.
      God doesn't need us to become missionaries if all he wanted was for the people of the world to be baptized in his church- if that were the case, he would have come down himself and revealed to the world the name of the true church in person. But- he wants his flawed, young, ugly-duckling children to become swans, like him. And to do that- they need a reason to become swans- because in the spiritual world- an ugly duckling can become either an ugly duck or a swan by choice. It isn't automatic. So he teaches and tests us with the patience of a perfect father, and will trust us with more responsibilities as we grow, so we can grow more. And he also tries our faith- or abiding trust and hope in Christ and his Atoning Sacrifice. People can of course, give up these responsibilities at any point in development for various reasons, and disobey God's commandments- which were made for our eternal joy.
      I attest that the church itself is not wrong- but that the individuals who God entrusts it to are flawed. Sure Joey had dozens of wives including the wives and teen daughters of his followers, but it was for holy purposes like having little or no additional children.
      Sure Joey pulled the Book of Mormon out of a hat, but talking to magic rocks was normal back then.
      Sure the Book of Abraham papyri have nothing to do with Abraham and all the facsimiles are 100% false but maybe god lied to Joey and the Book of Abraham came through direct revelation instead.

      Well- it's actually a little more complicated than that. The markings on the garments borrowed from the Freemasons remind the initiated of some specific promises they make in the temple related to these specific markings and more broadly to the covenants/promises they make in the temple ritual.

    • @ldsrevelations4205
      @ldsrevelations4205 9 років тому +1

      Stephen Corson Well I suppose you could show me how I am full of crap if you comment had any actual facts behind it. I assume you have issues with my claim that the marking on the garments are Masonic in origin- and they clearly are. Look on the back on any Cadillac owned by a Freemason and the masonic seal has a square and compass on it. Any endowed Mormon knows those are on the LDS garment as well. In Nauvoo Joseph Smith became a master mason and then 6 short weeks later came out the endowment ceremony complete with the garment. I suggest you do some homework. Once you do it will amaze you who it is who is full of crap...as it were.

    I don't know where Glen goes to church but he is getting seriously mixed up here. Most scholars have refuted the idea that Polygamy was the result of too many women left alone due to persecution where male lives were lost, it sounds like it was because of convenience not revelation. But the major problem here is he mentioning the Spanish American War ---Spain had nothing to do with the early history of the church!!. Spanish - American war did not happen during Brigham's live (1898) You are getting mixed up with the Mexican - American War (1846). Not a good way to start because people would think he is an ignorant and he does not know what he is talking...other than that he is bold and is trying to dispel the stereotype

    To any Mormons who feel 'offended' by criticism, and say that folks should just 'let them be', well, that would be all very well, except the Mormons don't let everybody else 'be', with their constant proselytizing. On the occasions that I have had Mormon missionaries try to lay their spiel on me, I have not been rude, but I've given them both barrels with my challenges to the beliefs they feel free to peddle. And it doesn't take much thought to see the gaping holes in the Mormon story. Apart from strictly theological questions, anybody with the most passing acquaintance with pre-Colombian history can see the Book of Mormon for the fraud it is.

    • @jmhatutube
      @jmhatutube 9 років тому

      Critics don't offend me, they make me laugh. Your last sentence was a real knee-slapper. Of course, you probably say that about all the Christians around you that do the same thing. And then make fun of the Bible because of all the changes and inaccuracies only then to realize,"...huh, I guess the Book of Mormon isn't so unbelievable after all." The willfully ignorant are the funniest animal of all; yes you make me laugh.

    • @geoff2204
      @geoff2204 9 років тому +1

      jmhatutube The Bible certainly has its share of uncorroborated, and likely purely mythical, people and events. The Exodus and the census are two obvious examples among many.
      And yet there is much in the Bible that can be corroborated by either archaeology or historiography.
      Seek independent (ie non-LDS) corroboration of any 'event' recounted in the Book of Mormon, and the sad fact is you will encounter a great, big, yawning nothing. It's a pathetic and manifest fraud from cover to cover.

    • @jmhatutube
      @jmhatutube 9 років тому +1

      geoff2204 Of course that's not true, you just haven't looked hard enough or in the right places. But like atheist's dismissing biblical corroboration. you would probably dismiss what ever I brought up, regardless of whether it was non-LDS corroborated or not. If you truly want answers, you'll find them. If not, you won't.

    • @geoff2204
      @geoff2204 9 років тому

      jmhatutube I wouldn't 'dismiss' what you brought up. I would refute it, a very different thing, by citing scholarship from many different fields -- archaeology, anthropology, zoology, palaeontology, genetics, linguistics and more -- that reveals the stories of Joseph Smith to be what they are: fraudulent. The only way you can get around this evidence is with 'faith'. Not good enough for me, I'm afraid.

    • @jmhatutube
      @jmhatutube 9 років тому

      geoff2204 All that would do is create a back and fourth because what ever you seem to thing refutes the Book of Mormon is more of a lack of evidence than real evidence against. Then I would have to refute what you say, and we'd just go back and fourth. There are plenty of evidences supporting the Book of Mormon, but evidence isn't going to convince anyone on a subject that ultimately requires faith. Atheist regularly refute the Bible, does that mean you don't believe in the Bible? I personally thing the Bible has way more problems than the Book of Mormon. Many see the text its self as proof. The many hebraisms and complex chiasmus and a nearly perfect translation into hebrew are seen as more than enough evidence for the validity of the Book of Mormon. You say you have all these different approaches to refute the Book of Mormon, but are they any different than what has been said for the last 20, 50, 100 years? Because there are significant findings in recent years that put a lot of holes in old claims. Remind me, do you believe in the Bible? If so, how can you then turn around and cast aspersions on the Book of Mormon? This is quite perplexing. We know Joseph Smith himself couldn't have written it, it's far to complex and enough has been corroborated that weren't know during the time of Smith; yet the Bible has some sort authoritative superiority? That, just doesn't make sense.

    The thing that always puzzled me about Glenn Beck IS the mere fact that he is Mormon. He preaches to be a seeker of truth, check the facts. Mormonism is the biggest fraud on earth and when you do your research it is so clear and obvious that is is false.

      Tony Marinelli No offense, but Mormonism is not the biggest fraud on earth for it is not a fraud. I have done the research and so have many others that I know, and most of us have been converted or believe in most of what "Mormons" believe in.

    • @warioman91
      @warioman91 9 років тому

      Payton Poppell umm it's definitely not the biggest fraud on earth, but it is definitely a fraud. Lose the Testimony goggles, and look at it from a rational standpoint and just see the facts. It's all there, everything wrong with Joseph Smith personally, the complete plagiarizing done to make the Book of Mormon( you know how many books from around the 1800s were ripped off into the Book of Mormon...and ofc the Bible itself written in KJV lol). Just the way the church uses its living prophets as a way to "talk to god" as an excuse for the necessary political and social changes that need to be made to the church to keep it more mainstream....polygamy, black priesthood....and now people are wondering if at any time in the next 50 years something about gays will be done.
      Trust me when I say the church is declining in its growth rate. It's still growing yes, but that rate is dropping. You know what's really helping with that? The internet.
      The church is smart, too. They've got themselves well invested with their money in businesses, real estate, etc. so that their reliance on the religion is becoming negligible.
      In the Godfather, Michael Corleone deals with the fact that he has been born into a crime family and must live with that. He tries to get the family to go clean, to go West to Vegas and set up casinos where there is legal money to be earned. But the struggle of doing this costs him everything.
      I'm sure you can see the similarity there, but I don't think there's any leadership in the Church who deals with such trying issues of a man's will.

I believe you spoke every word from your heart. For the first time since I've known you, I have to say with a heavy heart. On this one, you are dead wrong. Your Mormon faith stands or falls on whether Joseph Smith was a true prophet or a charlatan. I know you will agree with that. You have at your disposal some of the greatest researchers that have served you well in all your programming. Would you give them permission to do a non-biased investigation into the true nature of Joseph Smith? It is no easy task to tell someone you love and respect that the very foundation of your faith is a fake. My question to you, Glenn, is this. Do you love Jesus more than you love Joseph Smith? Mormonism is not Christianity or even biblical. Mormonism its inconpatible with the christian Bible. I pray Glen will see this and reject his other testament and its teachings. You dont have to be a theologian to point the incompatibility of teachings of Mormonism and the Christian Bible. People will die for their beliefs as Glen point it out. Not the only religion that has done that, certainly it does not gives any validity to the book of Mormon. You can be a great person, love your country , honor family and have great values. such as Glen Beck, my respects to him!!!
    Chrisrianty is found in the Only Word of God. The Bible and the Bible alone. Apostle Paul warned us about that. Galatians 1:8-9. There are not more revelations of Jesus other that what was written in the Christian Bible. Btw, people in heaven will not be married Matthew 22:30. Please, please please read your bibles and reject the book of Mormon. Blessings

      +clifford fuelwood dear checkmate....what do you think it means in Romans when we are promised that we can be joint heirs with Christ? There are many Christian churches and early Christian theologians who taught the deification of men. Just because you aren't aware of that part of Christian theology, doesn't mean it isn't true. You should study it, and become more aware. Light and knowledge can be yours, and mine, if we realize all that we don't know. `It is neither strange nor heresy for the children of God to want to be like God. "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father, which is in Heaven, is perfect." Matt. 5:48 Read more of this doctrine in Romans :814-17 or 2nd Corinthians 3:17-18. And about men be "partakers of the Divine nature" in 2nd Peter 1:2-4 or 1 John 3:1-2 John 10:34 they are gods, even the sons of God. 1 John 3:1-2 "when we see Him, we shall be like Him"
      Children of Kings and Queens grow up to be Kings and Queens. Father's and Mother's rejoice in the progression of their children. It's really not that hard of a concept. The doctrine of deification has been around for a long time. It will take more than sarcasm and disagreeable men to dismiss it.

    The only thing wrong with Glenn's touching account of polygamy is it doesn't account for why Joseph had 33 wives BEFORE the Mormons left for Utah. And it doesn't account for the fact that 11 of those 33 wives were ALREADY MARRIED TO OTHER LIVING MEN. See Todd Compton's book "In Sacred Loneliness" for the back story on each wife (Todd Compton is an LDS historian). Brigham had over 50 wives, while other men went without.

He also left of the fact that Joseph Smith would promise salvation to the families of daughters to marry them. He actually kind of fudged that entire issue and what it means to the history of Mormons and what they believe to be true and the word of God.

    Hey Glenn Beck! Explain the law of consecration. Or how the Mormons lived as a society in Joseph Smith's time. Then look up socialism or Marxism.

    • @americandream74
      @americandream74 8 років тому

      Socialism is legalized theft, They take from one to give to another. Consecration is giving voluntarily for the collective good. Big difference.

    • @imoutbye
      @imoutbye 8 років тому

      Right. Do your research. Its the same thing.
      Everyone collectively contributes to society to take care of each other. Isn;t that what the early mormons did, and what Jesus would want? In fact Mormons practice socialism. That's what tithing is and volunteering time for home teaching and sunday school and helping each other move. And where does that tihing money go? To advocate for anti-gay rights and millions dollar malls in Utah. But mormons are hypocrites. They don't want to support universal health care but they'll happily help someone in the ward move their possesions from one big house to another, because they'll be blessed for it. Bunch of schmucks. So ignorant too.

    • @CaptainChurrr
      @CaptainChurrr 7 років тому

      tithing goes towards to the poor and needy, mormon helping hands, pay for churches and temples, keeping churches and temples clean/maintenance and many more. when a disaster happens, the church is normally the first ones to aid and help. as to funding anti-gay rights it was explained here their reasoning edition.cnn.com/2015/01/27/us/mormon-church-lgbt-laws/
      nothing wrong here, the church has beliefs, their beliefs is against same sex marriage so what do you think they would do? doing more nit picking than anything.

    • @LuLu6214
      @LuLu6214 7 років тому

      No it isn't the same. 1 big difference called common consent. You don't want to be a part of it, you are not forced to. Consent and choice is what differentiates Charity from Socialism/Marxism/Communism.

    • @imoutbye
      @imoutbye 7 років тому

      It's sad that Americans are so anti socialist ideas that you won't actually educate yourselves. Outside of FOX news. Certain aspects of socialism, which is a part of Canada and other European countries, is for the greater good. You chip in to help each other out in certain areas, most commonly health care. The law of consecration says that everyone chips in to help each other out with many more aspects of life such as sharing food. Nothing wrong with that either. But Mormons are such hypocrites because they draw near to God and jesus with their mouths but not with their hearts. ADo you really think Jesus, the supposed head of the church doesn't want all people to have access to healthcare without the stress of debt or potential of dying because they can;t afford it, when other people can. This is one of the reasons I left the church. Because you guys ara A) ignorant and B) hypocrites. You think the Gospel is about reading the scriptures, attending church, preaching the book of Mormon, going on missions and helping a fellow member move. That's the extent of most service from most members. What did Jersus say to the rich man in the bible? You know that story. Everyone knows that story. So why can;t you accept that it's a good idea to give a little so less fortunate people can have a better quality of life. And who know's, you or a loved one will be in that situation one day. Back to common consent. You're commanded to pay tithing or you will burn if you don't. An actual teaching from Jospeh Smith. How about His 40 wives? Did Heber C Kimballs 14 year old daughter consent to marrying a 40 year old man? Doubt it. But that's the part of socialism that Jospeh practiced that is that part everyone fears of happening. A leader abusing his authority.

    But didn't Brigham Young say something to the extent of if you don't have many wives you won't get into the highest part of heaven?

    • @lindalds
      @lindalds 9 років тому +2

      No, he said that if you don't believe, or criticize, what God commands, you are in danger of not getting into the Celestial Kingdom. If God commands plural marriage, you need to know it's from God, whether you practice it or not.

      lindalds that's completely wrong, there's written evidence that young said that word for word. Brigham Young said you are damned if you deny polygamy.
      "Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned," (Journal of Discourses, vol. 3, p. 266). Also, "The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy," (Journal of Discourses, vol. 11, p. 269).

    So.. if I get baptised into the LDS church, follow all the commandments, including temple and sacred undergarments, but are not sealed to anyone (non-LDS husband, and non-LDS parents), would I get to spend eternity with God the father?

    • @HelenEk7
      @HelenEk7 9 років тому

      nelly da silva So then I better make sure I stay out of the LDS church so that I make sure I get to spend eternity with my family... ;)
      I do not see in the Bible that there are some levels of heaven where God doesnt live. (or that anyone can get excaulted to become gods.) The Bible to say however that the only way TO GOD is through Jesus (not through church as LDS believe) :)

    • @HelenEk7
      @HelenEk7 9 років тому +1

      nelly da silva So to simplify this a bit - I love Jesus Christ with all my heart - he is the most important person in my life - even more so than my husband and two young children (that I do love dearly). I love Jesus so much that I try with every bit of my life to honour him, He did after all die a horrible death for me - so it's my pleasure to try to please him, every day.
      So what could the LDS church offer that I do not have in Jesus Christ already?

    Every time I run onto Glenn Becks program, and I here the tag," The truth lives here, "I want to vomit.. He speaks of truth, but he needs to start researching his belief system as much as he does the bits for his show. Because when it comes to his confessed knowledge of Mormonism, he either doesn't know much, or he knows too much, and can't gracefully back out of it.

    For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. - 2 Corinthians 11:13-14
    Mormons claim to be Christian, but follow a different god. They follow one that was once a man on another planet that earned his way to god-hood. This is a lie and has led many astray.

    After the first full blown lie about polygamy, I decided that it's pointless to continue listening to this video.
    Polygamy wasn't practiced for any of the reasons he portrayed. After this was aired, the church finally admitted that Joseph Smith married at least 34 wives or more, after denying it and excommunicating members who exposed it for the past 175 years. Half of his wives were already married to other men who Joseph had sent on missions. Several were sister pairs, several were mother and daughter pairs. And a few were as young as 14. And yes, Joseph did have sex with these women. This is a big deal because Joseph denied this practice. In fact, it is one of the key parts of his life that sent him to the jail he was murdered in. He was arrested for ordering the destruction of the printing press called the Navoo Expositor, who's first issue exposed his polygamy practices. Joseph, as the self appointed mayor, declared it a public nuisance. Good to know that the still new US government at the time took the infringement of the 1st amendment seriously.
    The church still very much believes in polygamy and that it will be practiced in the celestial kingdom or when worthy Mormons get their own planets.
    Read the CES letter, which compiles most of the blatant and obvious lies regarding the foundation of the Mormon church. No investigator in their right mind would join the LDS church after knowing all of the lies and hypocracies that spew from the church and its leaders.
    I consider getting out of the Mormon/LDS church - one of the best things I've ever been able to accomplish in my life.
