I bought my house 11 years ago. For 2 years, none of my clothes would dry on the first or 2nd cycle. I had steam all throughout my house when i put my dryer on. I would vacuum the house and it would be ok for 1 or 2 times. Then i had to have my deck replaced. When they demolished it, the ENTIRE side of my house was covered in DRYWALL, The drywall covered the vent. So all across the wall there was about 4 inches of dryer fluff!!! The guy said " how the hell your house didnt burn down i will never know!
WOW!!
Unfortunately, I've seen it many times! It happens often when a completely new roof is installed on a home... The roofers will, SOMETIMES, just replace the plywood and "forget" to come back to cut the hole and install the roof damper... I'm happy you're ok!!!!
Aussie dryers don’t have an external vent. That’s why we have windows open or exhaust fans in the laundry.
@@geekchick4859 In the US,. they sell an attachment that is essentially a bowl that you will with water to which you attach the dryer hose in the hope that some of the water vapor will condense when it hits the water. The $70 that I paid in 2012 for the vent and to have a hole drilled through the wall to the outside was the best money that I spent on my house, which was biult in 1947.
@@themadlibrarian2933 it doesn’t get that much condensation?!
That bird was so far in the house, he should’ve been charged rent!!! 😂😂😂 Great job. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
😂
This is my life at 73....watching toe nail cutting with dremeling and viewing dryer vent cleaning. June
My life at 36. We’re not so different. 😊
Well, I'm certainly happy you're here!

My life at 29. 😂😂
Drain unclogging videos are a gateway to this content lol.
You must watch Post 10.
@@debbysouthworth5606 you can't be more right, honestly his most watched video has 29 MILLION views. I would definitely say that post 10 is a gateway channel to this content
@DrainCleaningAUSTRALIA is by far THE best of the sewage drain cleaning video content. Half of the fun is Bruce’s “play by play” commentary and the other half is of course seeing the size of the drain rats that get yanked out of the trapways.
“She’s a bloody Rippaa!” seems to come up a lot! Haha
For me this came up after watching pressure washing videos! 😂
Whoa! That nest looked like a multi unit housing development for birds! 😁 No wonder the dryer burned out.
HSB!!! That was definitely one for the books! HAHAHAHA!!!
The dryer didn’t burn out, the high heat fuse melted, $10 part! (Used to be $4) the old dryer serviced might outlive the new one.
That was no nest…that was a freaking condo! Holy cow! Great job, Steve! 👍👍👍
❤❤❤
That initial lint buildup is probably the reason bird found it a nice place 😅 said hey there is a little bit of warm air comin out lemmie home up here
My last condo never in 15 years mentioned or required the dryer vents be cleaned. New condo requires dryer vents be cleaned every other year. Crazy that I had never been told to clean my dryer vents. Parents, ex-husband, no one ever discussed it. Shocked I didn’t have issues. Spread the word, clean your dryer vents!
Plenty of houses have burned down because of blocked vents. That's more than reason enough to keep it clean
I live in a condo as well and we have to have our dryer vents and chimneys checked every other year
Well done. Good of you to replace the missing louvers and complete the clean up. Thank you for sharing.
May having a small shop vac to vacuum the lent up would help?
My hubby and I enjoyed that. We used to clean out a neighbor lady's vent every summer, birds built in her's ,too. We finally had her get a vent cap the little birds couldn't get in. She would burn her dryer's out, too. It's such a fire hazard to let them clog up like that. People just don't think.
Nice job. I bet the homeowner cannot believe how fast clothes dry now.
And I kind of feel like our builder cheated pr got lucky. The vent run is 2 1/2 feet long with one 90 degree bend. Never had a clog and is clean as a whistle when i look in the duct.
It's working great then! That's wonderful!
After I bought new dryer and had it delivered and installed, I noticed that my flaps on the outside weren't opening as much. At first, I thought it was just the new dryer's blower. I ended up removing the new aluminum connector behind the dryer and that's where I found the 8x11 instruction sheet for the connector stuck inside! Problem solved
Oh wow, how crazy!
😂 Damn
That bird owes rent.
I learned to replace my dryer coil hose, and clean my vent. It's not fun, but is oddly satisfying when I'm finished. My vent is short enough that I can clean it with my hand, and see through it, so I know it's clean. One word; just because the vent is clean, the hose still needs to be replaced periodically, as damp lint sticks to the insides of the hose, so it's kind of like plaque clogging an artery, and it will reduce the efficiency of your dryer.
To me it looked like each year the bird put in a new nest. The old nest just got pushed further and further up the line. Thank goodness you know what to do so the house did not catch fire. ❤❤ New subscriber here.
Wanna clean out your dryer vent? Hook up a leaf blower inside the house. Ensure to remove the flapper door and grates on the outside of the house. It works.
@dennishish5930 nope, not good enough, and you could create a lint dam if there is enough lint in the vent line.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one whose done that!!
@@HighSierraBob Maybe not good enough if you use a weak powered device. Don’t go bear hunting with a willow switch.
@@dennishish5930 gotta have frictional agitation and positive or negative air movement.
Holey moley, dude!
I loved it. I couldn’t imagine how a dryer rent could be that stopped up but now I see why I’ll continue watching. It was very enjoyable and informative to me. Thanks for your good work.😊
Years ago I had a vent cover fall off, a rat made a nest inside the dryer hose, and died. The man that came to fix the dryer had a 5-gallon bucket overflowing with hose debris.
Hi Steve great video. Any thought of marking your hose at foot intervals so you can see how far you are going into the duct work. 👍
Great idea!
That was totally satisfying to watch because you have just saved this family from a fire hazard. 🏆🏅🏆
That is an insane amount of lint and twigs… how many birds lived in there it’s like a birdie mansion!!!!
I moved a year ago with a brand new dryer and dryer is taking forever to dry so cleaning out dryer hose today! Thanks!!
Like the biggest spit wad... That has to rank among the top ten most plugged vents. I also noticed that the owners removed the louvers some time ago, if birds were nesting in the vent.
If I had to rank the ones I remember, I would say this one DEFINITELY top 20! It kept on giving, LOL!
man looking at this makes me want to sneeze
I would have died if a bird came flying outta there 😅
You too? HA! Thx for watching!!!
I was sitting her watching this video, awaiting that to happen😮.
The leaf blower was a great idea. Maybe you could modify one of those pool filter nets and somehow attach to the vent outside to catch everything? That waw there would be less clean up!
Yeah it wouldn't be hard to put like a leg from some stockings over it. Some stockings, clips and some ingenuity and you could have a lot less clean up.
Although it's not as visually cool as launching everything out like a madman.
Our dryer vent in Connecticut was nice and short. The dryer was right next to an outer wall and all that was needed was to cut a hole in the wall, install the vent and hook the discharge hose to it.
Wow!! The best video I've watched for a while, I was laughing though 😅 but that was some nest 🏴 well done 👏
I enjoy your videos, and I also appreciate them, because I ended up going and buying the tools and cleaning out my own dryer vent. It was TERRIBLE, and my clothes dry SO much faster now.
I have never seen that amount of lint and debris come out of just one vent. I am shocked with the sheer volume of stuff that came out of there. Great job!. Liking and subscribing!
In picture at 2:25 or so looks like the vent pipe has loose from the plastic louvers at side of house.
WOW! They sure needed you!! 👍
They should have replaced the heating element in the old dryer, instead of buying that new one. I had a real old gas dryer, it worked great, however I wanted a stacking set to make room for a slop sink. Big mistake, in 15 years I've gone through two or three of them. I learned very quickly back then to not buy Samsung appliances. Luckily they were replaced in warranty.
One of the best cleanings I've seen!
Thanks HSB!!!❤️
That has to be the most neglected dryer vent I've ever seen 😳
That's what I call a clogged vent. Amazing clean out.
He has a cool job!!
Giggling 😁, wow , all that dryer lint blow out like confetti 🎊 after you used that leaf blower.
POOOOOOOOOF!
It’s a good place for a nest. Perfect shape and location, nice and warm, sheltered and full of fluff.
Man that stream of lint was like dusty confetti when the machine blew it all out.
Good service and good entertainment!
I appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching!
that just kept on giving!!
Great informative stuff my brother. Awesome footage. Stays “exciting”.
That is one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had in my life! I could actually watch this 10-20 more times it was so much fun!!! Dude you are amazing!!!!!
I can’t believe her dryer didn’t catch on fire.
Loved this! Subscribed.
That was an astonishingly huge nest! Superb job!!!!!
HOLY CRAP!!!! I am SO glad my vent is only the width of my outside wall and we've got maybe a foot of metal hose on it. AND a good damper! My damper has a hood over the louvres and a grate on the bottom so nothing can get in. (I live in the South, rat snakes will go anywhere).
Ours is similar. Maybe 6-8” run tops for us…
@@giovanninasuluh I know all about dryer fires. When my hubby installed the dryer we went from a rear vent to a side vent so there'd be less hose. Took him a bit to put the side vent kit in, but I feel it was worth it in the long run.
That last slug of lint was a hoot!
That was like a Native American longhouse for birds!
Great job Steve. 👏🏻
That's a guy who loves his lint.
Being the clean freak with a touch of OCD added in it’s an absolute must for me to clean things like my fans in my house. With that said, I have never had a dryer vent professionally cleaned like this. I find it quite satisfying to watch. 😊 I do however keep the indoor portion of my dryer vent as clean as I possibly can.
I’m wondering if there might be some way to put a bag or something over the vent to catch all the stuff that gets blown out. Something mesh to let air through but catch the clumps of lint. Not as great of a money shot, but much easier to clean up.
Where did you get the 1 piece flexible line at? I’m considering starting a business here in middle TN , and I’m trying to figure out the best way to do it. Love your videos.
Good job fixing the dryer problem, what’s the plan with the flashing/lacker there of on the vent?
Wow!!! This was a good video. Im glad you were able to clear that mess out.
Wow! After all you had already pulled out, then that last bit just projectiled across the damn Yard!
As I live in Australia, we don't have vented dryers like this, it never fails to amaze me how badly these things get blocked up!
I have so many questions. How come your plugs don't have 3 pins. Are they earthed? Also no switch?
Purchase a leaf vacuum....
It will work fine to clean lint from grass...
So, maybe I don't know, but why don't you just disconnect the flex hose, take it outside and shake everything out? How much stuff can be in like 3 or 4 feet of flex hose?
There's something weirdly satisfying about watching videos like this.👍
@11:37 what is that black box where the outlet is connected to? Is that some kind of appliance protection thing? What is it called? Share a link please
It wasn’t even the bird nest causing the issue she never had it serviced and cleaned in those 25 years. My old roommate didn’t even know she was supposed to clean it!
I would love to get one of those brush things you used, I'm in Ontario Canada. Where can I buy or rent one? Home Depot??
Amazon
Excellent presentation. Thank you. Any chance you are the same guy doing this around Charlotte around year 2000-2001 - so about 25 years ago? I went to your web page and it looks like the same stuff we installed at that time. Still working perfect after all these years. Actually pulled out the dryer last month to hit the outlet with a blower to clean things out.
Thts a very good dryer she got there very solid brand.
Decided to replace all my appliances so the brands would match. First one was the washer. It had a 5 year warranty. Well after 4 years the drum rusted out under the agitator and the drum dropped. Çalled Whirlpool. We'll send out a technician. The repair service called and the earliest appointment was a week away. Day before the guy was due to arrive I get a call from his office to verify someone would be home. They were driving from 70 miles away so I told her to make sure he brought a new drum. It offended her and I was treated like an idiot who didn't know anything. Dude shows up, looks at it, says I need a new drum. I told the woman yesterday to make sure you brought a new drum. He lectured me about taking things apart and I might have voided my warranty. Turns out that the warranty was prorated. Whirlpool send me a $25. off coupon for another Whirlpool appliance. Nope. I bought a drum online from a parts house and fixed it myself. I've also had to replace the balance rods because the machine was bouncing off the ground during a heavy load. I've also had to replace the agitator pawls that make the agitator work. I'm now in my 7 the year.
Next was a French door refrigerator with a crisper drawer and a freezer drawer. 3 years in and the ice maker hung up and flooded the house. Came home from work to find water running out of the garage door. It was also under warranty and they replaced the ice maker and the insurance company paid for new flooring. About a year later it did it again but we were home and caught it. Didn't bother replacing it because I don't want any more floods. Bought a counter top ice maker instead. The vinyl seals have also spilt on the doors.
Next up was the microwave. It started developing problems where it didn't know if the door was closed. Took it apart and discovered there's several contact switches. They snap in place between plastic fingers and the plastic had broken. So I replaced the microwave with a Maytag. While shopping for a new one I noticed there were only 2 different styles between the brands. Whirlpool actually makes many of the different brands. If you buy a cheap Roper you are really buying a Whirlpool. There's probably 6 or more brands that are really Whirlpool. In order to keep the same brand on my appliances I used some fishing line to saw the plastic Whirlpool logo off the old microwave and glued it on the Maytag.
Next was the dryer. I have had to replace the coils on the gas solenoids twice already. Then the motor quit. I replaced the Whirlpool dryer with an LG and it's been solid. The only Whirlpool appliance that has been problem free is the dishwasher. So far. When it dies I won't replace it with a Whirlpool, or any brand that Whirlpool makes.
Other complaints are the stainless they use isn't high quality. It is magnetic, and rusts very easily. The dish washer is also showing rust on the ends of the baskets inside.
How much do you charge for a dryer vent clean
How many people have told you that they never knew this needed to be done on a house? They always talk about the lint trap but not this.
How is there so many pin needle and wood sticks in there? And can I ask why you are not pushing from inside to outside?
Similar situation, not dryer fluff, I used a 5 gallon shop vac! It has the pick up power and the moisture won't bother it....
I cannot believe how much you got out of that vent!! There must have been a colony of birds!! Does this happen to the dryer vent even if you clean your lint filter every dry?
What kind of flex hose are you using ? Name ? Lengthen ? Do you have trouble with the flex shaft breaking ?
Are these vents an actual thing? I've never seen one in my life. We have dryers here, but not these vents.
But then, we tend to only use dryers if it rains for a week. Maybe low usage means vents aren't needed.
Years ago we used to have birds making their homes in the dryer vents. I finally had had it after pulling a 5 foot rat snake out of the vent that had gone full golden corral on bird eggs. Needless to say I blasted the crap out of the vent lines and put bird guards on the outside.
I have lived in 2 apartment buildings, and every time I'm drying clothes or towels it takes an extremely long time. A full load of towels takes me about 3 to 5 hours to dry. What can I do? Can I call a dryer guy to come check out the vents and charge it to my landlord?
That's a pretty hefty vent cleaner. Any idea where I can get one? The Amazon versions tend to snap pretty easily.
WOW. In the UK our vents are right by walls where the machine is ( well I say 90% mostly) How big was that vent ??
Some poor critter is coming home to an eviction. That was really satisfying to watch.
Hi, Oh my goodness. Where were the louvers ??Are they there to stop birds building nests in your vent ?? That was a Very Big Clog...WoW.. Watching you was the first time i saw these vents. So im still learning about them...lol Stay Safe Watching from Tasmania 🙏👍🤗
Wonder if the owner thought the louvers were what was blocking the airflow.
Glad to see you with gloves on.
Satisfying as advertised.
I used to do air duct cleaning and dryer vent cleaning was one of the services we offered. I remember one job where one of the return vents was loaded with lint. The dryer was about 10 feet away, so I suggested cleaning the dryer vent. She didn't think it needed it so I told her I would clean it and let her see the pile of lint. If she still thought it was a waste of time I wouldn't charge her for it. Out of a dryer vent that was about 20 feet long I had a pile of lint about 2 feet in diameter that was a little over a foot tall in the middle. She later told me that the dryer was getting the laundry dry in one cycle instead of 2 or 3. The free advertising from her telling the neighbors resulted in a bunch of dryer vents in that subdivision getting cleaned that summer.
Nice work so satisfying 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
See this is why I be saying dryer vents should be venting on the lower part of the wall or through the crawl space to the exterior wall because situations like this.
Builders don't consider the serviceability aspect.
I've never understood why a dryer vent wouldn't be run as straight and short as possible.
@@aj383 ikr!!
@aj383 that's the way it SHOULD BE, but not the way it always CAN BE.
Where is this filmed I have never seen a dryer like that before
What were they drying in there??
So satisfying!
Thank you for watching and your comment!!!
WOW!!!! THIS IS AWESOME ❤❤❤❤
Friendly tip use a bounce house blower while you use the rods/brushes and that should get it done on the first try.
There was an entire colony of bird nests in that vent! Great job cleaning up!
but how do you find somebody in my own area to do this? or the correct tool to do it??
I bought a house one time. Took me 3 months to find the dryer vent. Six turns from dryer to the dang roof! Cover was welded shut!
Were they drying pine needles? I can understand the nest but what the hell?
My husband has the tools and cleans our vent once a year or when our dryer starts not drying properly
Why do you have to clean the lint off the ground? Couldn't the birds use it or something?
A wet/dry shop vac could really help with that yard cleanup...
Blimey birds must of thought this is a nice warm place
HOLY... Awesome video!
Home owners are lucky the house didn’t catch fire!
must've been shocking for the owner to find out they've actually been living in the world's largest bird house!
