Wild looking at the tip of the strikeouts-in-a-season leaderboard. Everybody above Ryan was someone in the 1880s back when dudes threw 500 or 600 innings in a season
One of the most impressive athletes of all time of any sport. Looking at him you would have never even thought that he was an athlete. No ped use for sure on top of that.
Nolan Ryan had seven no-hitters and zero Cy Young wins. Sandy Koufax had four no-hitters and three Cy Young wins. Randy Johnson had two no-hitters and five Cy Young wins. Roger Clemens had zero no-hitters and seven Cy Young wins.
What is this game score stat? (I’m old so I never heard of it before) how do you get score 100 GMSC 2:50 with walking 4? What game score would it be for a perfect game?
"Game score is a metric devised by Bill James as a rough overall gauge of a starting pitcher's performance in a baseball game. It is designed such that scores tend to range from 0-100, with an average performance being around 50 points. Formula: To determine a starting pitcher's game score:[1] Start with 50 points. Add one point for each out recorded, so three points for every complete inning pitched. Add two points for each inning completed after the fourth. Add one point for each strikeout. Subtract two points for each hit allowed. Subtract four points for each earned run allowed. Subtract two points for each unearned run allowed. Subtract one point for each walk." Got it from wiki
@ Thanks for that info. It sounds like a very ambiguous stat. It sounds like some contest a high school creative English / Critical thinking class, where the teacher said: “Ok student, come up with a new baseball stat, and you make your own rules, but make it come out to 100” - They forgot to say, you get more points if it’s a 2nd Friday after lent, or the 3rd Friday after lent. Or more points i if it’s done during a full moon. . . - I could see that stat meaning something significant on on regular average game. But. If someone throws a NO HITTER, and walks 3 people, or walks 5 people and nobody gets past first base. Who cares what their GMSC is? it’s a Win and it’s a no hitter, and it’s O ERA, and a complete game and a shout out. (that’s all that matters in the record books. - And barely anybody since the 1990s pictures are full 9 inning complete game. No Tired pitcher who has a shut out, going into the the 6th inning, up by 2 runs. “Hey keep me in coach. I need to get my GMSC higher”
The only time Nolan Ryan (46) didn't get a no hitter is when he was punching the crap out of Robin Ventura's face (26) , lol😆😆😆. Nolan had Robin in a hold punching his daylights out, lol 😆😆😆.
That’s an odd question. . ..What award is given for a home run? How about being the first million dollar athlete (yet never winning Cy Young/MVP) That’s probably equivalent to $50 million and today’s athlete’s prices.

In the early days of my baseball fandom Nolan Ryan seemed like an ageless wonder.
Ryan was a once in a century talent. It will take another once in a century talent to possibly match Ryan's feat
Released 7 hours ago, sometimes things just line up in a satisfying way

It doesn't even sound real. 7 no hitters which is a record nobody will come close to.
Verlander has four, right?
@k.s.nichols4060 I thought he had 3 but doesn't matter.
@@holycow3890 Verlander, to date, has thrown 3 no-nos.

Maybe you can count his fight with Robin Ventura as number 8.
Lets call that his perfect game

Yup. Robin Ventura. The only player ever to get multiple hits off Nolan Ryan in one inning.
Did Ryan throw no-hitters, or did his TEAMS? Don't his defences get any credit?
No.
