As someone with a C40 on order I have two questions. 1. When examining information for a given charging station are the numbers of chargers in use and/or the number of inoperative chargers shown? 2. What control, if any, is there over the map shown in the driver's display? For example, can one zoom in and out?
Hi Cary, thanks so much. Congratulations on your C40 arriving soon. It is definitely one of the best looking EV's. The charging station page will usually show up as green and 2/2, as an example, which is two out of two available. Unfortunately the driver display only shows up in calm mode with minimal data or navi mode with a map showing. Having said that the map is very functional and clear and does show things like traffic. Enjoy your new car!
Varun, thanks for watching. That's a really great question. I briefly switched off my sim data and as expected the Google assistant ability to tell it where you want to go stopped working. However my maps kept working and I am guessing this may be because of offline map data. I definitely will try to keep it going without sim for longer to see how long it works. You mention on your video that it is possible to set up a route on, for example a pc and see the result on the the car screen - how is this done exactly and what connectivity has to be in place to do this? Hi Jim, what I do is when I plan a route on PC or cellphone I am logged into the same Google account. I then save my waypoints and charging station stops in favorites. When I get to car all those waypoints are accessible in the favorites menu in the car. No need for any special connectivity. It all just works on the same account in the cloud. Hope that helps. Got a XC60 T6 plug in 2022. We use profiles for the personalised seat and mirror positions. When the seat is in the position of the smallest person and the profile is choosen for the tallest, the seat is going to the front, before moving to the back in the personalised position, causing knees squeezed against steering wheel. Same experience? Solition?
Hans thanks for this comment. This is something I have never noticed before. Can you confirm if you paired a key to each profile? Are you selecting the profiles from center screen and have you tried using the memory buttons to see if it does the same thing? Let me get back to you on this one.

Hi, you don’t need a cellphone as long as your car has connectivity. The car gets software updates “until it is no longer supported” which is likely quite a long time from now. However your Google services gives you connectivity so when that expires after 4 years it is subscription based. As cars become rolling computers, increasingly all the manufacturers will be adopting subscription models more for connectivity and updates. This is a change that a lot people will not like but is likely to continue as cars become more tech heavy.

Vinodh, thanks for the comment. If you are in a new mild hybrid model then unfortunately you cannot turn auto start stop off. The good news is that this new system also has a 48V battery which means quick low vibration starts, no loss of climate control and much less stress on the large battery. If you are in a sensus system car then swipe right to vehicle function page and disable auto start stop. It does save fuel and there are many people who have written articles about this. It is also very taxing on your battery, if it is too frequent as it is a 12 V. That is one of the reasons why brands like Volvo have the more expensive battery. If I knew my drive was constant start stop. I probably wouldn’t want it on all the time as it is a lot of stress. In my location we have a lot of highway driving with occasional traffic and stops so it is a good place to use it. Thanks for the topic
Yes the Google navigation does account for range. If you set a route outside of range it will automatically suggest charging stops. The same happens if you’re battery gets used up.

This is a useful one to know. I if your infotainment get stuck. Keep pressing the home button on your infotainment screen. After 30 ish seconds everything will reset and that usually solves it. It’s like rebooting your computer. If this doesn’t work then you probably have a connectivity issue. Thanks for commenting Thanks for commenting

Thanks for the question. I’ve never really used the Tesla system so can’t really give you a comparison. What you can do on the Google system is that if I set a route such as DC to Connecticut. It automatically schedules two stops to accommodate the distance. I also have my setting to only take my preferred accounts - electrify America EV go and ChargePoint. If I create a route I can also search for charging stations at destination or enroute. Lastly if I set a destination that it outside of my range it will tell me and suggest a charging stop. I have been doing more longer drives for work recently. It has been interesting using an EV for a work travel car. It definitely requires more planning on the navigation. Can’t complain about the navigation. Wish I could say the same about all stations I visited though!
Under settings and controls. The last option is to set power on and off. However if you want to remember settings you can create a profile to do that too
David that is one item I wish I included in the video. Firstly start by making sure you are not in active navigation. On the map your car shows up as a blue circle with a triangle in it. Tap and hold on that symbol. A red pin will drop and that location will show up in a box. At the top of the box is a tab next to the X. Press that and choose where you want to save - favorites, want to go or starred. It also works if you touch any location on the map. It will drop a pin and you can save.
