I didn't listen to the songs before the contest this year, but the hype about Albania did reach me. After hearing it, I don't know what this hype was about. Very overrated song, and the staging was...odd, to put it mildly. Albania has always sent interesting entries, but not this time imho.
Really was one of the most suprising semi finals of all time! I think we all were in shock with the results. Good Luck to everyone that made it on Saturday!

On par with Semi final 1 in 2018 one of the most shocking results (although I would prefer if surprise qualifiers would been announced in the end, like it was in 2018 with Albania and Ireland).
what was surprising about it? the only one i was 100% against was switzerland; everything else i either liked, or didn't but at least still fully understood why it qualified.

De diepte has been one of my favourites for a while, and the performance was amazing. I didn't expect it to get through, but the ten finalists certainly demonstrate that one of the main things people vote for are songs that stir their emotions with honesty and apparent simplicity.
I'M OVER THE MOON! I didn't thought we could have Portugal, Greece, Netherlands, Iceland and Lithuania and we actually have them all!!! YAY!!! I thought we would lose one or two of them
While I kinda expected Greece, The Netherlands and Portugal to qualify, I wasn't sure about Iceland and actually didn't even have Lithuania on my radar. I'm glad for all of them and especially for the fact that so many women made it to the final, it's amazing and gives us a glimpse of hope that the Grand Final won't be as male dominated as I feared it to be.

France, Germany. Spain, Italy, England, should give up their final spot and compete in the Semi's aswell, then you have more spots to fill for the finals.

As a Swiss I must say I am very surprised we got through, I was personnality not a fan of that performance and would have preferred Latvia to qualify. Oh well, I am at least very happy for Ukraine, Lithuania, Portugal, Iceland and the Netherlands!

I expected Portugal to qualify, but was uncertain about Iceland and really cheared, when they were announced. And I was kinda surprised that Lithuania made it and cheered even louder, when the were announced. Thanks, Europe. You showed us taste.
@@in_wino_veritas Yes, I even had to pinch myself because it didn’t seem real. Finally, Europe gave three gemstones a chance to shine in the Grand Final, and it was beyond *amazing* . Even if I fear some of them will be forgotten by televoters/jurors, their messages (Maro’s grandfather loss/Monika’s Lithuanian revival/Systur’s trans activism) are what ultimately matters. 👏❤️

For those wondering why Albania didn't make it,it was probably because the overall appearance and suggestive dancing has a very American aesthetic,Kardashian-esque almost and Europe does usually not favour this sort of thing. This is just my opinion.
And we get a lot of similar songs every year, they’re just not it. Nothing special.
It wasnt a song, it was a beat, and even the beat wasnt good. They were going "hey!" hey!" to hype us up for something that never happened.
The singing just wasn’t that great
I get why people are upset about Albania, me too but she sounded like she was out of breath, wasn't a fan of the camera work and compared to some other performances i liked a couple other song more.
I don't know why we fail to represent our country with dignity these days.

Also, only half europe can vote during semi-finals, pretty sure this counts too.
Most euro fans in my country are 40-50yo and only listen to the songs in the day, and i believe thats the same for most countries, so staging is very important

And once again, The Netherlands were the last qualifiers to be announced. Actually the tension was off after Moldova were announced as the 9th qualifiers, because everyone kinda knew what was coming next. (also because they were a safe qualifier and would most like finish in the Top 10 of the Grand Final, but even if it was a borderline candidate, everyone would have become more calm, given the Dutch history of being called last)

Me too. I hoped that they would qualify, but was concerned that they wouldn't make it, I saw both of them in the Top 10 with the juries, but was afraid that this wasn't enough, especially with Lithuania. My guess is that Latvians were 11th overall and kinda edged themselves out by giving her 24 points. Iceland on the other hand had more friends in this race. Lucky about the many women who made it to the final, next to Iceland and Lithuania, there's Armenia, Portugal, The Netherlands and Greece. It doesn't seem to become an overly male dominated final after all.

Remember y’all that the fan favourites like Austria and albania most probably flopped cuz the majority of voters didn’t know they were favourites before the show and saw only for the first time the not so Great live pefromances. That made them vote for the faves they had based on the PERFORMANCES instead. That could explain Iceland and Switzerland going through for example. And Latvia had a meme/hit value but there was just a little fan base, the majority of *voters* didn’t apparently just get it... or then just all the old people voted idk this was an iconic mess😇🥶

I agree, Austria was on my top 5 only because I have this song on repeat. I'm obsessed with the studio version but the performance was terrible. But honestly, it's always better when people judge fairly

If you realize, this was one of the quickest results' announcement of the recent ESCs. Even with the part when they connect with Martin Österdahl, it only lasts for 7 minutes, which made everything very fast and there was not time enough to show us the faces of the artists hoping to be announced. It was way less exciting than other years. I hope they change that on Thursday, but they probably won't since there are more songs (one more competing and another more of the Big Five than in Tuesday) and they probably don't want the semifinal to be longer. So I hope they organise better and keep more minutes for the results.

I prefer this way for the semifinals. For the Grand Final they can focus more on building up the suspence.
But maybe it is just me, because I found this semifinal to be the weakest, I didn't find interesting most of the songs so I wanted it to end very quickly. Maybe next semifinal will be more exciting.

Ronela was 100% a shock but looking back it was messy. They should have kept the national final staging; the whole theme, choreo, and general staging ruined the song I think, her vocals just weren’t as good either…
Plus we all knew that Pia had been struggling vocally to keep up with the song. It just wasn’t a quality performance tonight.

The results in this semi-final were certainly surprising when some countries you didn't expect to qualify over others did, frustrating a few people but congrats to the delegations who got in, and good luck to them in the grand final.
Them announcing Switzerland first caused chaos throughout all of Europe.

My heart aches for Albania😔 I really thought we had a good chance to not just go to the finals, but also rank in a decent spot. Ronela represented us in the best way possible. I just hope that after this, Albania won't go back to its usual ballads😥

To be honest, Switzerland was a 100% jury song and i will not be shocked about seeing Switzerland as the jury winner song.
Then for Croatia and Latvia, I think in the bookmakers they were definitely out before this semi despite of great lives. Personnaly, I think Albania deserved to not be a qualifier: is the song great ? YES. Is the performance great ? 😬
There was a lot of hype for this song but this performance was not better than her final performance so that’s became a flop. It will be obvious that the song will not be supported by juries and the televoters don’t support enough her to be qualifying. That’s my opinion and I respect totally yours. Switzerland was touching, beautiful, magnificent, he has a great voice, and it absolutely stood out in the first half.
