Rotten apple was the weirdest song I had ever heard when I discovered it. I really appreciate that mike Inez added his own spin to AIC, nobody could ever touch mike starrs style though. I think it’s gonna rain when I dir
Mike will always have my respect. That bass line in Rotten Apple is one of my all time faves and that tone he gets at the beginning of Stone is mind-blowing.
I like Inez playing but I think totally opposite. Starr bass lines are the ones you hear , he made so many iconic ones on Facelift and Dirt. Inez is nice guy but except Jar of flies he didnt create any memorable bass lines , he is behind Jerrys guitar.
I knew Mike casually, we lived in the same small town. He really was a very nice person, I always enjoyed when he came into my store and we’d talk music.
Mike Inez improved Alices sound immensely studio and especially Live, and he is one of the most humble and nicest guy on Rock n Roll ,favorite band favorite bassist--still rockin hard AiC🤘
Loved the last two videos. Great explanations of technique between the both players. Future bad habits videos could include Leon Wilkeson and John McVie.
Ive only ever played bass on one of my projects, so I mostly focus on guitar and vocals, but damn I love this channel! I never got so deep into the bass. I've always appreciated it, but I always just kept it simple or played what I thought sounded best at the time. I love this videos tho fr. Thanks for the content bro!
Awesome that you covered two of my favourite bass players in such a short space of time. While I certainly appreciate what Mike Inez has brought to the band, I still personally prefer Starr’s playing especially on facelift. Respect to both Mikes though, they both kick ass live and on recording!
Mike Inez on the Tripod/Self Titled and Jar of Flies is really underrated. It's kind of perfect actually, listen to Nothing Song or Sludge Factory, some of the darkest basslines ive heard.
I love them both, but Star wrote the bass lines to more of my favorite songs.. I have a question for anyone with a helpful answer: How would you recommend a player learn enough theory to help with song (bass line) composition? The simpler and more straight forward the better.
Starr played on face lift and dirt so he held his weight as a bass player. I know Starr and Staley were hard-core addicts. I'm from Seattle not claiming to be an insider. My best guess is someone decided that Starr and Staley needed to be seperated.I believe they both were natural talents.A band like AIC isn't grown in music college.( although Quesnsryche and Mettalica are.)
Unpopular oppinion: Mike Starr was very replaceable. There was no point in keeping a generic bassist with drug problems and a bad habit of sleeping with underage girls. His style wasn't special, and he wasn't particularly interesting musically. The difference is that Mike Inez is one of the best bassists who walked the earth.
Mike Inez is a great bass player, and musician. Mike Starr was not. Say what you will about Starr, I have no strong feelings about him, one way or the other, but he was pretty much along for the ride during his tenure. Musically, he pretty much contributed nothing, in relation to the songwriting process. His one and only song contribution, “Fear The Voices”, was released with the Alice box set back in the late 90s, The Music Bank. If you’ve heard the song, then you know why it never saw the light of day on any of the band releases prior to the box set.

Mike Inez was definitely the best choice to replace Mike Starr in AiC.
Mike Inez had the same name, same curly hair of Mike Starr and he was the main bassist of Ozzy. Yea, he was definitely the best replacement.

Have you ever listened to the British prog rock band yes? Weirdest and coolest songs to first listen
@@aldomichel9473 Owner of a lonely heart is a classic 👌
@@TheStepmonkey what about sound chaser?
Inez is a gem! He commented on one of my IG posts once and was super encouraging about learning bass. Long live Inez!!
I love Mike Inez, massive influence on my playing. He's really shone in recent years as they've become more complex.
Mike will always have my respect. That bass line in Rotten Apple is one of my all time faves and that tone he gets at the beginning of Stone is mind-blowing.
both mikes are amazing by their own right.
My favorite band, bass player, & song (Nutshell). Thank you sir!!! This video gave me chills.
Mike Inez is a total master, his work for Jar of Flies will always be legendary 💗
Mike Starr was great, but I find more interest in Mike Inez’s bass lines. He’s one of my absolute favorite bassists
I agree, Rotten Apple is the main reason of why I play bass
And Mike is such a nice guy too.
Inez runs circles around Starr. Starr was below average player, and really contributed nothing to the songwriting.
I like Inez playing but I think totally opposite. Starr bass lines are the ones you hear , he made so many iconic ones on Facelift and Dirt. Inez is nice guy but except Jar of flies he didnt create any memorable bass lines , he is behind Jerrys guitar.
@@jatza07 you gotta be kidding lmao
Love this series. I'm a newish bass player and recently found your channel and have been binge watching these episodes.
Mike Inez is the nicest guy in rock, HANDS DOWN.
I knew Mike casually, we lived in the same small town. He really was a very nice person, I always enjoyed when he came into my store and we’d talk music.
Rotten apple bass line is great)
Next do Chris Squire please)

THIS!!!
WTG Paul, you make it look so easy !!!! So glad I found you , as a Bassist, I can tell everyone here, it's not as easy as you might think !
Thanx for your work, man. Your videos are short but very informative and interesting. Keep moving!
Hey Paul, great video as usual. can you please make a video about Mike Mills from R.E.M.?
Good video. Thanks man..
Mike Inez on the Tripod/Self Titled and Jar of Flies is really underrated. It's kind of perfect actually, listen to Nothing Song or Sludge Factory, some of the darkest basslines ive heard.
YOU HAVE TO DO RYAN MARTINIEEEE OF MUDVAYNEEEEE
Our Filipino pride Mike
Awesome take on aic bassists!
Im recommending Frank Bello..would be cool
you should do one on Burke Shelley from Budgie
Next do aston barrett please.
Yes!
I love them both, but Star wrote the bass lines to more of my favorite songs..
I have a question for anyone with a helpful answer:
How would you recommend a player learn enough theory to help with song (bass line) composition?
The simpler and more straight forward the better.
Panasonic!!
Make a video of "How to sound like Rex Brown (Pantera), Paul Gray (Slipknot) and Shavo (SOAD).
Chris Squire or Les Claypool soon
We need bass habits for jason newsted now
Always insightful and educational. Ronnie Lane please
Inez rules
These are so great. Do Roger Waters, please!
I try to work in as many tritones as I can, even in major-keyed songs
Got to meet him at the meltdown in Springfield mo when he threw his bass across the stage…Lane was out of his mind.Mikes a good dude scary evening
I love your videos of bassist habits, and the covers you do are still impressive, do you plan to bring any songs from Motley Crue's generation swine?
3:36 never knew anthony kiedis plays bass in alice
Chris Squire please
You should do a video on how to sound like David Hungate or Mike Porcaro of Toto, the bass work on Hydra and The Seventh One is amazing
