- In this video I color correct & grade Apple log using LUTs from various brands/filmmakers (and compare them) along with using film emulation plugins FilmConvert & Dehancer. All footage shot with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Great test! Fun to see all the different options side by side. Thank you for including mine in the list!
Enjoying testing out your different creative LUTs as well. Pretty crazy what we can do now with Apple log.
thank you for including me in this! my conversion LUT (iLUT) is certainly designed for color grading after. I typically pull my shadows down a bit and add saturation/contrast to taste after applying the LUT
and i’m just going as my real last name now. dave maze was a stage name 😮
Definitely! All the LUTs need finessing, but I just wanted to show them drag & drop first, then know that you’ll work with it more later. I first knew you as Dave Maze from UA-cam and Twitter, but I got it right with the graphic. :)
You missed the Lemming LUT, which is by far the best conversion LUT if you want to match any other cameras.
Cool I didn’t know that they created one, thanks for letting me know. I’m familiar with them, but I mainly think of Sony or Lumix. Will check it out.
thank you for this.
9:07 yes please make a video about that
The more information the better
I just picked up your LUT package. Thank You! It’s very nice to work with, even in VN video editor. One quick question… I see the Black Magic Camera app not only lets you apply a display LUT but it can also apply a LUT to the saved clip. I know you’re giving up flexibility later - but do you see anything wrong with baking in a “look” when you are running and gunning?
That’s a subjective call, but I would personally almost never bake in a look shooting log, because really, that’s defeating the purpose. Even though yes, you’re creating a look that you like with that LUT, but later you just don’t have the flexibility as you say, and especially because it’s so easy to mess up the exposure or white balance shooting with a phone.
I guess the only time that I would probably do that is if you’re doing something for social media and you just want to upload it or you don’t have time to do much post.
Thanks for picking up the LUT pack and for watching!
What about the free Apple Lut ?
I don’t like it as it’s very similar to FiLMiC Pro, but it’s definitely there if that’s your cup of tea.
Hi. Can a LUT be applied to all footage filmed in same setting? or will it be necessary to adjust colors for each footage?
You can definitely apply a transform LUT to all clips at once using an adjustment layer (depending on the editing app you use). But then each clip would require individual color correction depending on its exposure and white balance. And/or after everything is corrected, you could do a creative LUT (like a film look) over everything one more time again using an adjustment layer.
Great video. Which year Macbook are you using?
This was actually done on a 2017 Intel iMac.
@@iphoneographers Wait what? I heard persons telling me that any mac lower than 2020 will not be able to run premier pro. The thing is I want to use permier pro but the Windows conputer that I can't manage the workload and I don't have alot of cash to purchase the lastest mac. Do you think buying a 2017 macbook for starting premier pro as a beginner now is okay then I can save and work my way up?
I’m not sure who told you that, but I actually have even an older machine that’s from 2014 that runs premiere pro fine. Now, with certain footage it stutters and rendering can be slow, but for every day stuff it’s fine. My 2017 iMac is the top-of-the-line i7 chip with 64GB RAM. Your best bet is to probably to buy a M1 Mac mini and start from there. They’re very affordable and surprisingly powerful.
@@iphoneographers Does this also apply to Macbook too?
Blackmagic baked in LUT is amazing
I personally wouldn’t bake that in, but it’s nice for a preview, although I find it has too much saturation & contrast for my liking. But yes, it’s great they include it now.
Which one of your apple log luts are you using here ? Your natural one ?
Yep, I didn’t have the film look LUTs out when I did this video. It’s the LUT plus some additional color correction.
