Theme Song by Hello Control: bit.ly/hellocontrol - Фільми й анімація
It's LOG, it's LOG, it's better than bad, it's good!
I've been watching film riot for a decade now, and still every time Emily pops up on screen I forget she's not like, 8 years old 🤣
Not only that, you can add an ND filter to it, and adjust your shutter speed to match the frame rate ( ½ ) so you get a cinematic motion instead of shitty phone video look. The difference is massive.
What’s an ND filter?
@@EXPLICITBGNeutral Density filter. Really it’s basically just sunglasses for your camera’s lens. Helps when there’s too much light and your image is overexposed.
@@NikPelekai Thank you for taking the time to explain. I’m not familiar at all with the technical side of film making. :)
WTF?@@EXPLICITBG
@@Mr_Kenneth literally no need to be rude, my friend.
There’s no shame in wanting to learn something new.
Almost forgot your channel for like 2 years, youtube stopped showing your videos in recommendations. Tonight it just clicked my mind and i was like what was that channel with a guy and his making videos all the time and I’m glad you guys are still making videos 😊
I always credit you guys for teaching me everything I know about filmmaking and the language behind it! Thank you for the continued videos and good laughs! You guys are a talented and inspiring group of filmmakers!
Just remember don’t call every camera movement a pan 😭, there’s only one camera movement that’s a pan
Great content ! always love your channel which helped me a lot during my early filmmaking career.
Used an iPhone to shoot 240fps for a product shoot to shoot inside a bottle and cut it with a RED Komodo...client never even knew & it worked PERFECTLY!
That is wild!
You had RED footage and iPhone footage?
Is that what you’re saying?
@@DialloMoore503 Yes!
I've been waiting for this video. Thank you
Please, do make a short film using the iPhone 15....seems like a good challenge!
Fantastic video guys. Hope you do more on log and color correction.
Dope, it’s been so long since I’ve dialed in on this channel. Looking forward to 2024
The one big win for me with the BMC app is that it will automatically generate and save the proxy file along with the LOG file to the SSD or SD card. This has streamlined my processing into Davinci Resolve and no need to go through the whole proxy generation step separately. It is already done and on the SSD.,
I just got the 15 pro, and this is indeed helpful. Thanks!
i love you sooo much always so good to get informed on the important things in life ❤️🌎
Great video, thanks for the shout-out Ryan!
The blackmagic camera app is amazing, and you can shoot log in H.265 to save a ton of space on the phone.
Thanks a lot for uploading this video. I didn’t even know that Bm had an app for mobile, and as a one who have black magic camera it’s so nice to shot in iPhone camera with black magic settings
9:41 as someone who only records with their IPhone 11 camera and is always trying to find good apps, I really appreciate and agree with this statement-
Great video! Thanks guys!
Android with all-sensors LOG, 10bit color, HDR10+, RAW video, external storage, etc for years - nobody care.
Apple finally achieve something Android did years ago - biggest leap.
Nice one! Never had an iPhone but this is the reason I might switch to it for my next phone
Even a lot of Android phones have log
Love this. Thanks for sharing. Currently shooting a short on my 13, but can’t wait to try it on the 15. Big leap.
Kondor Blue and Angelbird are coming out with a magsafe sd/c fast B express card adapter. So that should help with the file sizes.
so basically they made the iphone camera ACTUALLY usable now. thank you so much for showing off these features guys, seriously making a difference!
If you are shooting video on a smart phone, you should get a phone stabilizer cage like the Neewer A104 smartphone video rig (~$20). The cage gives you comfortable hand grips so you can hold the phone steady along with 1/4-20 and cold shoe mounts.
Try it, you will like it.
so glad there's a way to get rid of the apple processing now. it was always the give away for me when guessing if something was shot on an iphone.
Great comparison Ryan! I am just curious from your filmmaker's perspective, if we would see mobile film-making being utilized more in the film industry now with the added log function on the iPhone 15? 😄
100% agree with Ryan. For me too, the biggest thing is the fact that Apple LOG gets rid of that horrible phone footage sharpening. It looks sooo much better than anything else from phones just because of this.
Cool. You're right, it would depend on the project if I were to use a phone in filmmaking. I love my proper cameras though.
Thanks for sharing.
The problem I had with the Blackmagic app yesterday was that when filming during the day with locked shutter speed and ISO 55, the image was overexposed. While you can adjust this somewhat with the exposure compensation button, it changes the locked shutter speed, which shouldn't happen. An ND filter could be a solution, but that adds cost and bulk to the rig.
I’m so far behind but im saving this to my list
By the way, I would love to see a short using the 15. I’m sure it would be great, considering your company’s skills.
Pretty incredible to see!
Isn't mobile raw the next leap?? Log is good but motioncam raw is next level
People aren’t loosing attention because the video isn’t fast enough, but because of the way the information is preceded. It feels like you are standing by a stream, and the info is just flowing past you at breakneck speed, and your brain is trying to keep up, but is not able to, so it just switches off. If you look back on educational shows from the 70s and up, you find that the information is broken up into bite size chunks, and often repeated, so the brain can have time to absorb it. But for some reason that information has been lost, and people now just act like they are reading the information from some sort of homepage, abut the stuff that they are talking about, and thinking that if you read it fast enough with as few pauses as possible, people will learn it faster.
I have the iphone 15 pro and used log. It is freaking insane when it comes to quality. I have an extra usbc SSD attached and even used it as my c camera sometimes. This little feature is a huge leap forward.
awesome stuff
You guys are amazing
Love the video! It does not look like it to me, but just knowing you guys, was this episode filmed on a dedicated camera or the iPhone? (the A roll not the examples)
coool.
So do you shoot your family weekend clips with prores log or just use the default app stuff?
great writing in this
LOG is the main reason I'd like the iphone 15. Looks so much softer!
Wow, I haven't seen a recent video of this channel in years, and last time I saw Emily, I'm surprised I remembered her name, was when the did that one video with her killing everybody in the house. She grew up.
THATS crazy. Can’t believe mobile cameras came this far. I’m still in iPhone 8 and this is really making me ponder on selling my kidney to get an iPhone 15.
Do it! I went from the iPhone 12 Pro Max to the iPhone 15 Pro and haven't looked back. The leap in video quality is mind blowing. Some cellphone providers are offering to lower your new iPhone costs to get the 15. I got $600 for my 12 Pro Max for my $999 iPhone 15 Pro. So, I only owe about $400, paid over two years with my new plan.
Am back to school.......more learnings this year.
Can you make a video for the regular Iphone 15 testing its limitations? Great video.
Love the video. Apple Log is a game changer, I do prefer using a Color Space Transform to do the conversion (as Stu mentioned) rather than LUT's, I think if you try that you will see that the image looks basically perfectly neutral, and ready for any creativity to be put on top, sometimes I really just like the image exactly as shot, with just the CST.
I really don't like mixing locked in creative choices with conversions between color spaces. I am not sure if you guys use Davinci for color though...if not, LUT's are the next best thing (as Stu also mentioned).
Admittedly a little envious that I don't have this on the native Samsung camera app on my S23 Ultra. It really should be a setting. You can get a flatter image by lowering the contrast, highlights, shadows, and saturation, but it's limited to Full HD and unavailable in UHD or 8k. Considering I have used my phone to capture footage that I later edited and got paid for, it'd be nice to have Log at my disposal for more editing avenues.
Hi , Hope you are doing good. Your content is great.
I am from India. I am planning to get a mobile for film making (shorts).
Could you please suggest one between
1. Iphone 14/15 pro
2. Samsung S24 Ultra
Also, which gimbal should I be getting. DJI or is anything else fine?
Thankyou in advance.
I just switched from iPhone 6S to iPhone 12, I will wait about 3 years to switch up again :)
I love u guys 😅
I have an iPhone 11 and the Blackmagic app is a game changer for filming clips on my phone.
No doubt it's a big step in iPhone video, but it would seem less like a paid ad if you acknowleged that LOG in smartphones is nothing new. It's been standard in a lot of other phones almost 5 years. Even my cheap Mi 10 shot F-Log.
WELL DONE 😎
That something like that line cracked me up hard 😂😂😂😂
I'd be interested to learn how you use the shutter angle of the Blackmagic App, when the iphone's camera has fixed aperture. Is there some nice nd attachment you're using? How are you dealing with it in the bright day scene?
It's crazy to think about technology these days
As good as iPhones are from a video perspective, Does the 15 pro series still suffer from VFR (variable frame rate)? had that issue with my 14 pro, if so that's still a big hurdle to making them really viable.
it baffles me that the black magic app + iphone has shutter angle before Sony's FX3 does
Big sensor look is something can't fake
this is huge!
Do you have any videos on making films on an iPhone, or at least shooting on them? I’m interested in short films, but this is the only camera I have.
Emily's back! Yay! great content, you should do a sketch with emily & Josh with the iphone... just saying.
I wonder why they don't just give us a setting which has everything baked inn and a bit compressed but with less sharpening and some smoother highligh rolloff.
lol the biggest leap in mobile filmmaking was and still is motioncam (CinemaDNG raw video), any android with motioncam would completely annihilate an iphone shooting prores log
Cool
Can you guys do some of the effects from across the spider verse like the glitching effect web animation and like that I really want to make a film inspired by it but sadly there no tutorials about what I need plz if you can do it it will really means a lot.
Personally, I love pure ass... but not when it's a video. Also, I'm pretty sure the iPhone has better low light performance than my Fujifilm X-T3 lol. Also
so grab some popcorn and get comfortable. man have bee watching them since 12 to 13 years now.
Do we have something like blackmagic app but for photos?
I had a huge crush on emily since my childhood good to see she grown up !
Is the blocking on the garage door in low light the phone, or YT?
Noob question but can you also disable that shitty stabilization iPhone default video does from the BM app ? I’ve always found that super janky
Do they Ipad that would be more of a dedicated item than a phone, but its as good as a cheap camera. So if you dont have these phones, just get a cheap camera and a seemo to connect it to the phone you do have.
but what would be the best way to create shallow DOF with iPhone 15 pro. other than using their cinematic mode?
You can try using a Depth-of-Field adapter to use camera lenses. Beastgrip has one that takes Canon EF lenses. Beware that you will need to use lenses that can be manually controlled and that you will lose 1-2 stops of light.
Film Riot, it's been a long time. How are you doing?
Can you pls provide the link for free luts?
I don’t see why they would limit LOG on iPhone 14 pros :(
he ain’t lying 0:30 lol
I guess you never tried LGv30 when it came out, it featured LOG mode specially targetted for cinematographers
Apple users don't realise Android has had this for years
true
Why isn’t their shutter speed control on the iOS Camera App??
This is so stupid!
Will it work in i phone 14😢
meanwhile, canon only wants us to record to super expensive sd cards only
I think being able to shoot in raw cinemadng should be called the biggest leap in mobile filmmaking
FINAYLLY
i must say im impressed with apple on this one
Apple should allowed shooting in Log for iPhone 14 pro too, damned.
❤❤❤
the iphone just became a real camera, except better because it also has ARkit. Someone now needs to make an app that can capture the camera tracking data and log prores video in one go. Total game-changer for VFX.
The idea that Alexa and RED cameras don't have gyros and positional data built-in yet is mind blowing. The iphone has every camera on the market beat in the data category because it has so many sensors on board.
AR kit.
What’s that? Where can I get it?
LG...
Android supports a Cinema dng videos through a third party app, you should cover that as well. It's really good
But is it worth all the work to shoot in log?
That fact the blackmagic doesn't allow android users to have this app is a TRAVESTY..
which android phones could do for years
It's not technically a hard drive😅 it's a SSD.
Not hating, but android user being doing this for years and its almost 2 years since you can shot true 12bit raw on $300 phone
Speaking as someone that films for a living - recording in raw doesn’t automatically make the output better. Having the feature is great, but if the sensor isn’t up to the task, you’ll just get garbage at a lot higher file size.
It's a huge difference! Especially on higher end android phones you can get 3 stops in the shadows and highlights. FULL chroma 4:4:4 12bit from the sensor. Even with pro aps that shots log in 10 bit can't get close to raw in color depth. Some phones can do 4k raw at 120fps or 4.6k at 60. Most of android phones comes with sony imx sensors that can shot 8k raw 12bit at 24 fps 😁😁😁
First 🔥🔥
What's the big deal? Every decent Android was able to record log for years now. 😂 When Apple does it it's revolutionary?
