What about low manipulation if you want your hair to grow ,for many natural sis we have to choose between wearing different hairstyles and the need to retain length . Personally i love to wear my hair out it makes me feel so beautiful,i dont want to tuck it away all the time what sense of having my hair if i cant enjoy it.
Exactly i've seen a lot of hair content UA-camr telling you can only grow your hair with protective styling (mini twist, ect...) then once you reached your hair goal you can "enjoy" it. Those women are already waist length but they keep protective styling their hair. No low manipulation just long term and i kinda think its sad
Im 4c . Grew my hair just washing and go but I used a lot of gels . It was beautiful but I’m on locs now because I want to see my length. Moreover I like what you said , what’s the point it having hair if we can’t enjoy it
Well for me and my hair type (3c/4a for reference), I’m able to still retain length doing wash and go’s because I’ve ditched combs and brushes when it comes to styling and detangling my hair. Now, I only use my fingers every wash day and leave the combs/brushes alone and when I style my hair, I use my fingers only as well to distribute the product along my strands and I still get great definition while shedding only a tiny amount of hair in the process🤷🏽♀️
I completely agree! I’ve been on a Healthy Hair Journey since March 1, 2023 and I’ve retained length while also wearing my hair out and tucked away. I do 3-month cycles of styles (Wash and Gos, Twist Outs, Medium Twists on my own hair) and reset/wash my hair 2x a week. I don’t use combs or brushes except for when I press my hair out for a quarterly trim. You’ve got to find what works for you. I knew protective styling 100% of the time didn’t seem worth it to me so I don’t do that. I want to enjoy my hair!
Its so uncommon to see 'having fun with your hair' as the main advice for natural hair journeys bc people always focus on strict routines but they forget about the importance of enjoying the journey, making it fun u know
As a black natural and recently getting news from a dermatologist that I have signs of alopecia one thing I definitely regret and most times had no control over was wearing all them tight ass braids with weave and perms growing up. I will never put that shit in my kids hair. Consequences is most definitely real.. I'm only 24
Love this! Also, I bleach and dye my hair myself. And it’s easy to keep maintained and healthy. I do take breaks between bleaches tho. But the hair that’s still bleached is still able to be colored and have fun with. I personally like the black to color or black to bleached
Only reason I feel like I don’t enjoy my hair is that I feel ugly with it. I only feel pretty when I wear braids because my hair is at that weird length that makes it “ugly”.
i just colored my natural hair hot pink yesterday + this is how i plan to nurse it back to health 🎀🩷 - it’s *really* soft, and way more fragile after bleaching + coloring so i definitely need a protein treatment, and a bond repair mask in the future - i’m doing large knotless braids tomorrow for an event, and once i take them out, i plan to wear my hair in mini twists or twist outs from twists i’ve had in for days since wash day - i have over-manipulation damage even without color, so it’s a goal of mine to keep my hands out of my hair and well watered + moisturized -almost completely avoiding heat after i take down my braids, and focus on gentle detangling and heatless styling - i want to buy more products that target damaged or color treated hair so i can balance my hair’s pH and go from high porosity back to a medium porosity - it’s also a goal of mine to eat enough whole foods and protein so my hair (+ nails + skin + gym gains) can get all the nutrients she loves (iron, calcium, potassium, biotin, zinc, vitamins a b c d + e, folic acid, etc) - hot oil treatments + scalp massages, to promote hair growth, and oiling my ends to promote length retention + lock in moisture - i’m sure there’s more steps in my healthy hair rehab plan but it’s possible to have healthy colored hair as long as you love on it 🎀 ᡣ𐭩ྀིྀི₊ ⊹

@@ItGrlCae Thank you for replying 😭and that's actually really smart, idk if I would've thought of spray paint! Sorry for all the questions but how did you stop the paint from getting on the light bulbs and mirror while spraying?
@@nanelawe9216 np at all!! it’s too easy to respond, but putting on the lights was the last step of assembly so i just put on the bulbs after spray painting

is it bad that i don’t moisturize when i have a protective style ?? 😩😂😂 I just oil my scalp maybe once a week, but when i have braids or something in i get real lazy

yes ma’am i agree w u 100% !! i love wearing my hair out as well as wearing cute hairstyles to spice things up here & there. personally, i’ve haven’t had to choose between one or the other, but if anyone else needs to then i think they should do what’s best for their hair

Dunno, I wear my hair out every day. I’m retaining length…maybe because I stopped using combs.

omg i’m so sorry to hear that ! thank you for feeling comfortable to share.
I love using color Gels or wax for a color change without damaging. Washes right out but gives me a great option to change up my color
i forgot all about waxs!! i use to love the purple one! they use to make my curls pop too 😭 i might need to go back
Yesss i currently have the red colour by curlsmith and I’ve gotten lots of compliments! The copper one is also another fave

that’s really cool! i’m too scared to experiment with color tbh, i did it in hs & ruined my hair 💀 it was a whole mess

How do you mosturize your hair when you have fake hair in?
I personally moisturize as normal but add more since the added hair soaks up the product as well as your natural hair
