Poor riding skills will mean lots of 'panic type braking' 0 i do not judge anyone in here. But, the thing is how you ride the bike, the way you handle it, the way you prepare the corner entry, the way you load the front when starting the braking, the way you are continuously loading the front by MOVING your all body towards the front and getting that elbow out, by doing this not forcing your slef in a 'lock down' position and not being able to carry on speed and lean angle correctly loading the front - thus, making the electronics kick in. ⭕️ EXAMPLE: ⭕️ I have a friend which has IDENTICAL bike with me, 2018. I even managed to get the rear wheel up in the air while hard on the front brakes and the ABS didn't got in at all. I use Pirelli Superbike tires SC2 and SC1 on front usually. At times i try to do stoppies to see it work, and it.. works. my ABS is functional. So, what i mean is that, is all about the riding technique. If you love race vlogs, take a look over my episodes. So, again, 44 teeth team, guys, please don;t hate me, i really love your work and enjoy it every time, this is not HATE what i've wrote and please don t take it this way. Cheers and tons of appreciation once again.
I think ppl who slip their machine to corner don’t like abs. Abs is for pretending a wheel lock and it shorten braking distance, does not make longer. What an irony.
@Gap - to be honest, the track day and club racing level, won't need the ABS off, just the riding style to be refined - be smoother and better technique for corner entry, as body position and so on. After i really learned how to ride, i compared my data logger from previous runs and i was breaking too much, and was 2 sec, slower. Now I carry on more corner entry speed and not that violent on the brakes as before
the brakes acted funny on my 2015 on my first track day with the R1(not me, the bike's first day) at mid ohio sports car course. (ex ama track) and after i swapped the pads for some Ferodo ST pads the braking become amazing like my old R6. the problem is the stock pads from advics.
My heart is skipping watching this, the last time i felt this giddy was before i bought my 1st skyline.....now im coming up to my 1st r1m and hoiiiiyeahh im in love
Sometimes I wonder what crappy brakes would feel like, as I ride V4S with Vesrah race pads and not ever did I feel any remote issues of any kind. Nor ABS is an issue, level 2 or level 1, level 3 is a bit dangerous for sure. Brembo must be that much better
Best reviews as always 👌🏻 top job ... can you do a comparison test between an original 98 R1 and this model ? Compare the old school "organic" feel Vs this modern flying ECU 👌🏻👌🏻
I think you guys answered your own question wrt why so few R1's are sold now compared to the past, since right before that you were noting how expensive these bikes are now. Sport bike manufacturers have largely decided to go for the expensive niche of track riders with lots of disposable money, loading the bikes up with cutting edge tech and pricing themselves out of the much larger markets at lower price points. It wasn't long ago that a new CBR1000 could be had for less than ten grand. And re: R1 brakes, it must be intentional; they've heard complaints about crappy wooden brakes on the R1 for twenty years now.
Hit like before the first ad even finished playing and once again 44Teeth delivers the best content on the planet. As for the bike, there is a lot to love, it's a peach of an engine (even better with a system and tune no doubt) but WTF with the brakes Yamaha. For the price and given what the Euro competition offer it's simply become unacceptable. They've had years to sort it out and it just can't be excused.
I don't think thers any other bike reviewers better than you heck even comparable to you... And i mean it.. Mcn, motorcycle. Com, cycle world(worst), bike world... No one literally no one comes even close. Hats off to you peeps keep making genuine reviews. ❤️
@@kawilifezx10r23 not really. The zx is harder to go fast with, and harder to corner. Where i live there are soo many zx10s, and everyone who rode both the zx and the r1 said the r1 was easier to ride.
The base bike is $ 21,000 USD here in Mexico. The V4 is $22 K, a S1000RR is $17 K, a CBR1000 RR is $16 K and a GSX R1000 is $14 K. All base models. The 2015 R1 was a game changer, this 2020 is barely different if not worse. For the money I would buy the S1000RR except that I suspect that is badly restricted as the US version. So the only logical chose is to get the more expensive V4 which is not restricted and the 2020 seems to be more civilized for the road.

I owned a 2015 R1M... loved the bike, especially on track. Coming out of a corner nothing could keep up with it. However you would lose all of what you'd gained on the next corner entry because there was absolutely no feel on the brakes; sad to hear they still haven't fixed it... sigh :(
@@megapet777 like they explained in the video it has to do with the fact that their ABS system isn't great. Too much intrusion plus you can't fully turn it off unless you plug out the fuse or something.
I hated my brakes on my old R6. They were spongey mush which felt like you were squeezing a half filled helium-balloon. Not the most confidence inspiring feeling as a novice rider. Test rode a Ducati 748 and realized what I was missing. That and the insane torque and turn-in. Lol
That brake issue is a real problem for me... because all these superbikes are super powerful, but the feeling of not being able to stop will make you shit yourself every time. And I only want to shit myself because of my own dumb mistakes, not cos of the bike.

Top superbike for me . I had s1000rr/M and sold it too many issues after had cylinder recal so now I got R12020 and I can say I'm happier with Yamaha already planned some mods and from A month tuners successfully decode the new ecu and now can do a proper flash,, s1000rr/M worth less then R1M but I think it's justified regarding of what I faced with bmw,,,,R1 hat's off
A lot of things you guys said contradicted your impressions of the 2015 bike which is odd. SCS for example you originally said crack the throttle wide open, and it will save you, this time, it won’t save you. Odd
Awesome review as usual! top notch stuff. I'm also getting some of those V02's fitted this week for my next trackday should be fun to try them out for the first time :)
Why no riding the GYTR version? I thought that was the best part of the 2018 R1 review. It was helpful in judging the bikes capabilities as a dedicated race bike.
Great noise for sure, better with Akra mid-pipe and end can! Most wouldn't keep OEM pipes anyway. New R1M is a fair jump in coin though, sheesh! Brembo.....how the hell is a 'premium' bike running electronic suspension and Ohlins kit not have decent stoppers FFS! Great video as always. Was nice to see my Mum make a cameo too!
Emissions standards mean clean exhaust; means complete combustion. This in turn means massively advanced ignition timing off throttle (up to 70+ crank degrees before TDC) to provide the window necessary to burn everything in the cylinder before it's let out again. The bike is a bit touchy when you open the throttle as a result of the combustion quality (torque) being sensitive to previous cycles and how fast the system actually responds. Typically low throttle openings for cruising / maintaining a steady speed require very little advance, so it's quite a jump between the two states for such a small movement in the throttle, and simple interpolation can't cope, so no doubt special schemes are used - and they're evidently still inadequate. Also lean (fuel) running can be a bit touchy because it's hit and miss cycle-to-cycle; so you are already at a higher throttle opening than necessary when the power kicks in. It's all just a bit knife-edge in terms of the requirement to hit the emissions targets.
the amount of TECH dropped on these bikes nowadays is just insane. I wonder if anyone could make an objective comparison with R1M bone stock from the dealership versus 1990 GP bike? In regards to tires I would be most curious, is it possible to make a case that today's normal sport tires like Bridge's RS10s have the grip like the early 90's "competition only" slicks?
I have a 2016 R1 and I use power mode B on the road. Tried to use power mode A at Donnington and just couldn't get on with it. I didn't have the finesse to manage the throttle on the slower corners. It was just too snatchy and I gave up quite quickly...
This bike needs a ecu flash sounds like.. that way you can change throttle settngs ..launch control.. ignition curve and anything else needing a retune
I normally hate the sound of inline 4's, just the high pitched whine of them gets at me, but this and the mt-10 are probably one of my favourite sounding bikes, and the rsv4 is probably the best of the 4 cylinders. Shame about the bottlenecks of the euro 5 regulations, but nothing a decent aftermarket full system cant fix.
Thinking about moving from my track bike Ducati 848 EVO Corse SE to this R1M. But there is one thing Ducatis are unbeatable at, it's braking. And I don't like what you're saying about this bike's braking capabilities..... Very nice video whatsoever
can 44Teeth do any in depth testing footage of the YEC race parts for the r1 - r1m, like the race ecu and loom, camshafts and cam sprockets and the velocity stacks etc? I know that the 2020 bike can not be flashed yet so the option would be to fit the race ecu and loom but im wondering if it would be possible to keep the road legal stuff connected such as the lights and indicators etc. It would also be nice to know what sort of power and power curve the bike would make after dropping a substantial amount of extra cash on race ecu, cams and velocity stacks. 🚀

Euro5 doesn’t work. What is the first thing you do when you buy a bike? Replace the exhaust system and take out the cats and DB killers.
Nice of Monkey Alan’s Mrs to make an appearance.....love 44T
12:00 was deep bro
For 2021 there be a brand new R1 engine frame all-new this is just a little update
Another great video fellas! 💯
Top superbike for me . I had s1000rr/M and sold it too many issues after had cylinder recal so now I got R12020 and I can say I'm happier with Yamaha already planned some mods and from A month tuners successfully decode the new ecu and now can do a proper flash,, s1000rr/M worth less then R1M but I think it's justified regarding of what I faced with bmw,,,,R1 hat's off
These bike have so much power, but don't feel metal. I remember the 2004 Ninja 10R,that was mental.
You knew it`s boring when they opened talking about a blue jacket. A mouthwatering euro 5 update ;) Go Yamaha
Perkins as always on point
Why no riding the GYTR version? I thought that was the best part of the 2018 R1 review. It was helpful in judging the bikes capabilities as a dedicated race bike.
I would like to see a comparison between the R1M and Honda CBR1000RR-R SP.
2 questions...
A) I need a new 44t hoodie. When will they be available?
B) Why has Euro 5 fecked the throttle up?
Cheers, Ben
@@identiticrisis cheers pal 👍
the amount of TECH dropped on these bikes nowadays is just insane. I wonder if anyone could make an objective comparison with R1M bone stock from the dealership versus 1990 GP bike? In regards to tires I would be most curious, is it possible to make a case that today's normal sport tires like Bridge's RS10s have the grip like the early 90's "competition only" slicks?
At 11.54 there's a loving husband at home dreaming of becoming a steam roller driver.
Thank you for making this video bro
I have a 2016 R1 and I use power mode B on the road. Tried to use power mode A at Donnington and just couldn't get on with it. I didn't have the finesse to manage the throttle on the slower corners. It was just too snatchy and I gave up quite quickly...
The best thing next to MotoGP. Keep it up!
I thought your review was very involved with the new changes, riding feedback and overall content of camera work, better than MCN review!
This bike needs a ecu flash sounds like.. that way you can change throttle settngs ..launch control.. ignition curve and anything else needing a retune
Chris’s drunk note was cryptic lol
I normally hate the sound of inline 4's, just the high pitched whine of them gets at me, but this and the mt-10 are probably one of my favourite sounding bikes, and the rsv4 is probably the best of the 4 cylinders. Shame about the bottlenecks of the euro 5 regulations, but nothing a decent aftermarket full system cant fix.
nice work Sue
Thinking about moving from my track bike Ducati 848 EVO Corse SE to this R1M. But there is one thing Ducatis are unbeatable at, it's braking. And I don't like what you're saying about this bike's braking capabilities..... Very nice video whatsoever
Love your work and channel. Also love the music you use. What are the piano tunes you use?
@16:58 Being chased by Alex Lowes. AWESOMENESS!
can 44Teeth do any in depth testing footage of the YEC race parts for the r1 - r1m, like the race ecu and loom, camshafts and cam sprockets and the velocity stacks etc? I know that the 2020 bike can not be flashed yet so the option would be to fit the race ecu and loom but im wondering if it would be possible to keep the road legal stuff connected such as the lights and indicators etc.
It would also be nice to know what sort of power and power curve the bike would make after dropping a substantial amount of extra cash on race ecu, cams and velocity stacks. 🚀
Anyone know a good aftermarket header for this 2020 r1 that will fit a 3/4qtr s.c. project crt low mount to equal a full system?
I love it when air gets channeled into my ballbag
11:50 is that Zoe from PR ? 😂😂 also when did you get an rsv4 Chris ?!?
Top work again lads - cant stomach having to spend and extra couple of grand for a system on top of £22k, defo designed for track in mind
