Hey John! What a find!! Another one- you beauty. Love the half crown. Has to be a half crown because the C means Chester mint and they only did half crowns, shillings and sixpences there and only for about a year and a half. The Great Recoinage took place from 1696 as the state of hammered coins was so bad due to clipping and counterfeit coins were a massive problem. At the time the Master of the Mint in London was Sir Isaac Newton and he asked his astronomer buddy Edmond Halley - as in the comet - to oversee Chester's contribution to the Recoinage :). Almost certainly around the edge the lettering will say NONO indicating the ninth year of Willie's reign. It's rare and pretty valuable because it's a provincial mint - there have been a few sold recently around the $500 mark. If it really is a full crown it'd be worth an absolute fortune because I don't think any are known.
I think with you showing the whole process of detecting, digging, cleaning and explaining the find, is a detecting masterclass for all new or old Detectorists..
I feel a bit giddy watching this video! It’s with the camera swinging and then you digging! I’m sorry, but you did ask for opinions! Apart from that, we always watch your videos which are excellent and always full of information and history, You work very hard and it’s much appreciated. Hope you and your wife feel much better soon x 😊
I love the way you record your. Videos. Yes, the camera swings around a bit. But seeing the entire process up close is great. I don’t like when people set their camera up so far from the dig spot, talk about their find, and don’t show much of anything.
I enjoy the video from start to finish. Don’t change a thing…except maybe MORE!! 😊 Love your sense of humor and seeing Jurah(sp). Would love to see your wife too!!! Keep up the GREAT work!! Thank you!!
videos are just excellent in every way, new to your channel and already have been entranced by most of the , it is the explanations that are very enlightening. From US so your lilt is very easy to listen to. Keep on searching…
Dont change a thing John!!! Your vids put you right in the action!!! What a day with all the incredible finds!!! Congrats and cant wait for the next!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Just to answer your question I have to say I like to see you digging up the finds and discovering with you what it is in the hole in real time it’s so fun. I don’t mind the struggle with the spade it’s great
I do find the "Les special Digger" shots are always too low i.e. we only see the ground in front of the dig. And that is my only issue - the rest is parfait, merci😊.....
Hi John, the "Eagle" badge isn't an eagle. In the upper left is a nineteen fifties/early sixties style motor car, and the surroundings are a rocky hillscape. The legend has ASH (A looks to be the second letter) visible on the left and UNT (county or mount?) on the right. I believe it's a grill badge memento from a motoring holiday either in the Lake District or further north, maybe the Grampians. The amber thing is a cabinet or drawer pull knob. Your style is great, with the description and camera work whilst digging, it keeps it real.
John, your method is part of the reason why we love your videos. It gives us the feeling of anticipation the same as yours. Those action shots are honest, it's like you've brought us along on the dig. Don't change anything.
As a recent subscriber and viewer, I must say, you're the only other non US based channel that's ever made me want to travel and see the things you see. And go do the things you do. I've never even thought about metal detecting until now. Lovely videos John, thanks for making them for us!
I think your content is fantastic. I’m gaining 2 educations at once. 1 - metal detecting…which I truly enjoy, and an education about British, Scottish and Russian history. I’m a 67 year old American and still learning new things…amazing! Thanks and Blessings. Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t change a thing.
Keep your vids just the way they are! I enjoy being right there with you as you make your fantastic finds! You beauty, indeed…😮🥵Go home and take a nap👏🏻
Congrats on all the great finds! The threaded glass object looks like an old bike reflector. And I'm curious if the eagle badge says E Pluribus Unum, if so it's from an American military man's saddle or harness.
I really enjoy the digging, even if the screen is jumping around. It is like being there with you. I think the amber glass is an accent piece for furniture, like a fancy tack. You make wonderful videos.
Many the Scottish emigrants to Australia in the 1800’s obviously wanted to bring a bit of home with them so bought a thistle each. The thistles really love the Australian climate and are not appreciated by the farmers (or anyone out walking in the long grass). They are bloody prickly!
Well, we may not like them but bees, butterflies and other pollinators love them. Some birds also enjoy their seeds. Those awful thistles are also edible, provide fiber, protein, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc and some other pretty nice nutrients for we humans. Personally I'd rather get pricked by a thistle then run into one of your brown snakes or some of those other poisonous pets you keep down under. 🙃😃
One of the reasons I followed your channel is the fact that you show finding the target and digging it up. I won't watch channels that just show an open hole and the find. The way you do it makes one feel like they are there detecting. The thrill of the hunt!
What finds John. On your question - definitely include the digging. I’m not a detectorist, but there seem to be other channels with a less careful digging method. It’s not just the finds, but the integrity of your process and the whole thing that stands out for me 🙌🏻 [insert Oan Yersel’ emoji]
Definitely continue to show the digging, I think it’s one of the reasons your channel is growing. There are so many “fake” metal detector channels out there.
Good morning, John. I just discovered your channel about a week ago, and was immediately hooked, and subscribed after just a few videos. I started watching, then realized after the first 30 or so, that it would be better to go to your oldest video and work back toward the present, while I waited on your newest. So I went back to 278, and have worked up to 159. I really like the epic, amazing, awesome, brilliant, over the moon beautties. I say keep making the while you dig videos, I don't mind. It's fun to see what you dig, and you can even make a tinnicus cannicus an interesting find. Cheers from San Angelo, Texas. Keep on detecting!!
33:03 Hard to find the words John after watching you pull another stunning coin from the ground that’s been there for 326 years! Bind boggling! Well hunted!!!
This longer total immerion TSD video was a special treat. While taking the action shots has to make digging especially, rocks, a lot harder, it shows that all those amazing finds took hours of arm wrenching work we vicariously shared with you that shapes what targets and where you choose to dig.them. If other viewers enjoy it too I hope you leave some of the action shots in. Always relish the culture/history lessons, batteling the elements, banter with the guys, etc. Glad you' and your bride are on the mend. Look forward to every next video and maybe in between. I'll grab some popcorn and a comfy chair and watch a whole marathon of favorite "oldies" .😊 Thank you, so much.
Congratulations on all the coins. I believe the eagle is American. I think the script reads e pluribus unum. Also the metal thing with the slide could be a styptic pencil. The glass knob could be a reflector for a car, bicycle or carriage.
Don't change anything, John. We 50+ yr olds love the GREAT history education with each item. My last name is BUCHAN and our family is directly related to author, war hero, Governor General of Canada, Lord of Tweedsmuir and great veteran of the Boar Wars. JOHN BUCHAN ...THE 39 STEPS, Author converted to a Hollywood movie by Alford Hitchcock. He's my Great Great Grandfather.
Are you a history teacher? The facts about British and Scottish history, as well as European history is incredible. I should be half as knowledgeable about the US. Blessings.
I think the relic with the amber top is a Victorian curtain holder. It would be screwed into the wall or sash and the curtain would be looped behind it to stay open.
Please keep doing exactly what your doing ! It's lovely for us to discover what you find as you find it too ! Far more exciting this way . Lovely finds !
Feasgar math John. Apparently the silver coin was minted in Chester and could quite possibly be a shilling at 25mm (1 inch) diameter. The bust side certainly looks like the shilling type, but I am no expert by a long shot. I think you have another cats eye reflective road marker at 1:04:51. Another cracking video sir, thanks ever so much. 👍👍
Seeing those coins makes me think of the massive amount of coins hammered into the tree stumps near the Hermitage in Dunkeld. What you find each time you dig up these coins is history, John. You're amazing, I sure hope you had a wee dram of whisky after those two great days of detecting.
Many thanks and best wishes. Hard to believe I still get the odd comment about finds being planted or fake 😂 especially given it’s the first time I’ve got permission and the ground is like rock 😂 one of the reasons I like doing live dogs as proof, but not sure if it’s too bouncy and not good watching
John 😊 please keep your digging holes in your video. It keeps your videos exciting and me wondering what could be hiding in the hole. Great videos! Dava
As an American Granny I can say I love your videos! I enjoy your enthusiasm, your (to me) accent, and the way you do the digging while we watch! You are a pleasure to spend time with! Speaking of spending time that virus you had has some long term problems including shortage of breath. I would be more than happy for one of its children to take up residence in you so take care of yourself!
Hey john! Love the level of detail shown, marking time for us, showing us the hunt and (some) disappoints but appreciate the cut decisions you make too! Channels that share too much walking tend to go at a speed that really bounces in just the wrong way...makes me carsick lol. Notmuch i would change except occasional addition of local scenery close enough/not unique enough to give things away (e.g., a look at that old wall close up; occasional moment looking at a tree or greenery; clouds along the road; birds flying by). Another big thumbs up from me. Take care of yourself!
Yet another amazing day. Regarding filming the digging shots, I think a mixture of shots, some as you dig, some following finding would be a good balance. Keep the videos coming.
I believe that the American eagle piece says “E pluribus unum”, which is Latin for “Out of many, one”. You will find this on United States money as well. I also want to say that I love your channel! I’m a new subscriber and I’ve been viewing back to back episodes for days now. You have a really good channel, I’m sure that you’ll do well with it.
Great finds! That one silver was amazing. Great job! The last piece you showed, reminded me of a door knob on a bedroom antique stand alone closet that has been passed down in my family. It had a small screw nut holding it on. Thats why the threading on it. I love you showing the digging process. Im looking hard to find something. Its kind of like playing where's Waldo. 😂
No need to change your process at all. You make it real….. bouncy camera and all! Also, love the history lessons and natural flow of your comments as each session unfolds. Keep to yer ways, laddie! As for the finds, I wonder if the object with the eagle might have an American origin…it almost looks like E Pluribus unum in the lettering and the amber glass knob is very well made but seems rather small for a drawer pull plus the shank is not very long…unless the second part to anchor it in the drawer is missing….but still, it is small. Perhaps a knob for a small box such as a jewelry box or portable writing desk common in the Victorian and Edwardian eras? Lovely find!
I don't think that the action shots are too bouncy. I'm amazed at how well you can dig one-handed! Could the amber glass piece be a small knob for a small drawer? It's beautiful.
I’m watching this episode for the third time, I believe…and it’s just like the first time. Hmmmm…dementia. Anyway, I truly enjoy the action shots…it’s fun, for me. At the age of 67, I’m living vicariously through others, it seems. Blessings, John, and thanks for your awesome creativity and entertaining demeanor.
I really like how you currently video your detecting. I recently ran across your channel and subscribed immediately. The information you share ranging between royalty, wars and the cost of a pint is fantastic. Please don't change a thing and best wishes for continued amazing luck! Greetings from California😊
Could the amber piece be the part you turn on a fancy oil lamp to make the wick go up and down? Looks like the C on your great find is Chester. As far as your question about filming when you are digging, well it makes me kind of dizzy. They sell a pole type holder you can put your phone on when your filming that sticks in the ground, maybe this would help. I enjoy your commentary as you dig so I'm sure you will figure something out. Sorry so, long. Great days! God bless
Thanks for the great info Julia and for confirming the Chester mint mark! Much appreciated Glad also you enjoy my style and I’ll look into the pole, thanks for the suggestion!
What a day you had! Thanks for sharing. Don't change your presentation in any way please, the bumping camera adds to the live feel. The William III is a fantastic find, I've never seen one of those in my puff! Great condition too, just lovely. Think the 'amber' thing at c23.00 is a drawer pull, they're still made in that same sort of design today. A bit of art nouveau/arts & crafts influence there, maybe, so 1890s/1900s? Brilliant video, please keep them coming.
Thanks for the kind words Colin and I’m glad you enjoyed! I’ve never seen that William silver before either…. A beauty! Many thanks for the help with identifying
John, several questions from Texas. You find coins from the 13 and 1400’s, and many from the late 18 and early 1900’s. However there never seem to be any from the 1600’s and 1700’s. Was there less coinage made during this time? Are the coins from this period made of materials that couldn’t stand the test of time? This is the plague era, especially the 1660’s, since there were 25 to 50% fewer people are correspondingly fewer coins? Thanks for the videos, I enjoy them very much.
Always an incredible film, so many interesting finds and saves. Phew all those coins again and well done with that William silver what a stonker that one. Brilliant film every time John and such a great channel, thanks for your efforts 👍🏻
I like the not-too-bouncy camera shots. It gives the familiar sense of breaking ground and introducing more adventure. That said, of course I like it because I am a professional archaeologist and this is what earns my interest. Keep it going. Thanks for the wonderful content!
New subscriber here! Found your videos this and have been binge watching all day, LOL. Look the real time action of you digging out the treasures. Keep 'em comin'!

I’m Beach metal detecting with my Equinox 800

Beautiful coin, fantastic find. The C mint mark is for Chester. Crown is 38.6mm in diameter, half crown 34mm and shilling 27mm.
That amber glass object looks like a Victorian drawer knob
I agree. We have an antique closet that has one similar in my family.
Thought it looked like the end of a walking stick. Probably Scottish Agate.
Definitely not an indicator from 1800's as they were still using trafficators into the 1950's. Drawer knob sounds like it.
Yes I think you are correct, but it is cool and appears to be possibly quite old. I like these kind of finds.
A glass reflector for a car, bicycle, or motorcycle from the 1920s.
Dont change a thing John!!! Your vids put you right in the action!!! What a day with all the incredible finds!!! Congrats and cant wait for the next!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍

Keep your vids just the way they are! I enjoy being right there with you as you make your fantastic finds! You beauty, indeed…😮🥵Go home and take a nap👏🏻
Many thanks zzz 🥱 😆
I like the camera moving as you dig , it makes the viewer feel as though they are there digging too. Great Show on the edge of my seat!
Much appreciated and glad you’re there with me!!
Good afternoon from Perth Australia, great I caught this video less than 30 seconds 😂😂😂
Greetings from Perth Scotland 🏴 hope you enjoy the video!!
Congrats on all the great finds! The threaded glass object looks like an old bike reflector. And I'm curious if the eagle badge says E Pluribus Unum, if so it's from an American military man's saddle or harness.
Action shots.......... great, we are with you as you did, can't ask for better.
I really enjoy the digging, even if the screen is jumping around. It is like being there with you. I think the amber glass is an accent piece for furniture, like a fancy tack. You make wonderful videos.
I enjoy the action shots. I don’t find the camera bounce to be any bother. Just adds to the vicarious experience 😂
Many the Scottish emigrants to Australia in the 1800’s obviously wanted to bring a bit of home with them so bought a thistle each. The thistles really love the Australian climate and are not appreciated by the farmers (or anyone out walking in the long grass). They are bloody prickly!
Prickly: Just like us Scot's..
We have them here in America, as well. Not popular with us either.
They are a blight on Australia like Scottish gorse and rabbits and foxes and cane toads
Well, we may not like them but bees, butterflies and other pollinators love them. Some birds also enjoy their seeds. Those awful thistles are also edible, provide fiber, protein, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc and some other pretty nice nutrients for we humans. FANTASTIC FINDS! DON'T CHANGE A THING. The wiggles and jiggles of the camera when you're digging make it all Real. Great video!
Much appreciated Okie. See you on the next dig!!

I think the 'C' on the William III crown is for the Chester mint
Looking forward to seeing more treasures I love your Channel
Much appreciated Deborah. Glad you enjoy!!
Do you get to keep any finds or do you have to give everything over to the farmer. I always wondered about that 😊
I love the way you dig it for us and we get to participate in the discovery.
Definitely continue to show the digging, I think it’s one of the reasons your channel is growing. There are so many “fake” metal detector channels out there.
100%
I like seeing you dig your targets and I love hearing the tones of the detector. Trying to learn the different tones as you describe them.
Many thanks Barbara… glad you enjoy

Beautiful 1697 William 3rd. What an incredible place to swing a detector. Love you're channel!!!!
Many thanks, glad you’re enjoying and I can’t wait until these fields are harvested!!
The digging is the best bit - the suspense is priceless! 😊
Much appreciated Rod. Glad you enjoy
Action is great. It's like digging with you. Doing great!
Thanks John
33:03 Hard to find the words John after watching you pull another stunning coin from the ground that’s been there for 326 years! Bind boggling! Well hunted!!!
Much appreciated. This new permission is truly amazing. I can’t wait until the fields are fully harvested!!!
This longer total immerion TSD video was a special treat. Thanks for the kind words Molly! I’m really glad your enjoying! And thanks for your support. Enjoy the oldies and see you on the next!!
Nice one John! Many coins including a big willy😜
You don't need to worry about your process with the filming John. It's what makes you head & shoulders above anyone else.
Much appreciated and thanks for the support as ever Tony
Congratulations on all the coins. I believe the eagle is American. I think the script reads e pluribus unum. Also the metal thing with the slide could be a styptic pencil. The glass knob could be a reflector for a car, bicycle or carriage.
Agree with you on the eagle. The knob looks a bit decorative for a reflector; I'm leaning towards some sort of cabinet pull.
That's what I thought on the eagle too!
Wow another incredible finds day! That huge silver coin is really a beauty!! 🎉
Thanks Pauline. Yes a real beauty and so many coins. Can’t wait Until harvest time!!

I think the relic with the amber top is a Victorian curtain holder. It would be screwed into the wall or sash and the curtain would be looped behind it to stay open.
I like watching the digging shots. Leave them in 😊

Well balanced content, smashing William.

Man, you are Blessed to hunt that area.... love the 1697 coin, awesome !!!
Thanks Jory
I can’t wait until these fields are harvested…. I’m expecting some great finds!!
Great finds ! Looking forward to a return trip !
Many thanks IDD. Much more to come from this field I’m sure!!
I wouldn't change anything tbh. It's exciting to see the whole process! Thrilling to watch the silver peaking through
Many thanks and best wishes. Hard to believe I still get the odd comment about finds being planted or fake 😂 especially given it’s the first time I’ve got permission and the ground is like rock 😂 one of the reasons I like doing live dogs as proof, but not sure if it’s too bouncy and not good watching
I enjoy watching the dig . The way you get excited keeps me watching 😊
The eagle looks like the American style. If so, it says E Pluribis Unum. Which is the country motto, "Out of Many, One"
John 😊 please keep your digging holes in your video. It keeps your videos exciting and me wondering what could be hiding in the hole. Great videos! Dava
Many thanks Dava. Much appreciated

Yes the live digs are more interesting! Please keep on keeping on😊😊
As for your video digging process, please keep it; I like to be in on the dig! And WOWOWOW to that chonker of a silver coin!! Banner day!
Thanks Jason. Glad you enjoy and yes that silver is a whopper 🤩
I love the way you film! Keep it up 🇨🇦
Much appreciated Lori and thanks for your support!
Great day again the format of your videos is great don’t change anything
Also the informative narrative is great 👍👍
Many thanks Michael! See you on the next!
I love watching you dig up your finds!
I enjoy watching the whole process
Much appreciated Nancy and thanks for your support
I prefer the pause while digging and the show while pin pointing the find. The irridescent threaded button thing could be a threaded cuff link 😮
you would rock a quiz show! Superb finds!
Many thanks. I’ve done a few quizzes, history parts okay but when a music question comes up I fall to pieces 😂

Many thanks Drew. Gold would be nice but it always seems to come when you least expect it 😆
What beautiful rolling hills, the clouds too. You are a lucky man! Love your show!!
Much appreciated and thanks for watching
I think the hole digging part of video is great, adds some suspense to what might be found.
Hi John, I’m going with the top of a walking stick for the decorative glass piece you found….!
Much appreciated that’s a good suggestion too!
I don't think that the action shots are too bouncy. I'm amazed at how well you can dig one-handed! Could the amber glass piece be a small knob for a small drawer? It's beautiful.
I wouldn't change something that's not broke john, keep them coming stunning silver BTW 😍
Much appreciated and see you in the next dig!
Very nice Round again 👍🏻
That big Silver Coin would make my day 👏🏻
I would have jumped around like Rumblestiltskin 😂
Well done, Mate 🍀🍻
I’m watching this episode for the third time, I believe…and it’s just like the first time. Hmmmm…dementia. Anyway, I truly enjoy the action shots…it’s fun, for me. At the age of 67, I’m living vicariously through others, it seems. Blessings, John, and thanks for your awesome creativity and entertaining demeanor.
I’m so glad you enjoy! Many thanks and best wishes
Hi John.
I really enjoy your videos and, I like the live “ bouncing around “ aspect of them. Keep up the good work 👍
Many thanks Matt. Much appreciated
Wow what a couple of days mate. Love the content. Keep the good work up 👍😊
Many thanks Ian. Glad you enjoyed
Keep up the live digs! It’s exciting experiencing the reveal as you are seeing it!
I enjoy the live digs. I like the history you provide with each of the finds.
Much appreciated William, see you on the next
I really like how you currently video your detecting. I recently ran across your channel and subscribed immediately. The information you share ranging between royalty, wars and the cost of a pint is fantastic. Please don't change a thing and best wishes for continued amazing luck! Greetings from California😊
Thanks for the kind words Eliza. Much appreciated
And I’m glad you enjoy the videos and my style!! See you on the next video I hope and thanks for your support
You're filming and finds are spot on, love the live diggs keep them going John and have a awesome day
Thank you for this amazing video.
Really enjoy your informative videos and personally prefer to see you digging your targets. Carry on the great work John 👍🏻
Much appreciated
Glad also you enjoy my style and I’ll look into the pole, thanks for the suggestion!
Love your style 😘
Thanks Sally 😘
I love the William coin! Such a great find. The amber colour knob could maybe off the door of a fancy cabinet? (a complete guess)
Thanks Belinda the silver is indeed beautiful isn’t it! And I agree a handle for a cabinet makes sense! Thanks
Hey John, love the digs, and your knowledge of history and dates etc . Impressive. Australian viewer.
Much appreciated Steve. Glad you’re enjoying and see you on the next!
Incredible finds! Seriously good content! Oh I also believe the C on the "G" is for Chester.
Many thanks and thanks for the info!! Much appreciated
Congratulations on your sites success......
Fabulous monster silver coin!
Many thanks. It’s a beauty isn’t it 🤩
Always an incredible film, so many interesting finds and saves. Phew all those coins again and well done with that William silver what a stonker that one. Brilliant film every time John and such a great channel, thanks for your efforts 👍🏻
Great content John, Don't change a thing.
Banks for another exciting video. I personally liked to see the digs but happy to see a mixture of both
Gold in there somewhere mate! Stunning William don’t see them come out like that much😊
I like the not-too-bouncy camera shots. It gives the familiar sense of breaking ground and introducing more adventure. That said, of course I like it because I am a professional archaeologist and this is what earns my interest. Keep it going. Thanks for the wonderful content!
Many thanks Richard and happy digging!
I enjoy how you are digging, find signal, and dig a little. If it is too deep, you dig and then come back.
New subscriber here! Found your videos this and have been binge watching all day, LOL. Look the real time action of you digging out the treasures. Keep 'em comin'!
Many thanks Renee and welcome to the channel and I’m glad you’re enjoying!
@@thescottishdetectorist I meant to ask you if you had a sonic cleaner to put your coins in.
You’re going to need an armored truck to get your loot home if it keeps going like this! Congrats, bet it makes time fly while detecting.
Dont change a thing! Love your channel & love seeing the whole process.
Much appreciated 🤩
