I can't begin to express how much I love this story. For starters, it's probably the story Everything, Everywhere All at Once should have been if it was really good... Second, "which one was ages ago? 1965 or 2012? -Both..." Is probably part of one of the greatest dialogues in fiction. Shall I go on? This is incredibly well written and, of course, as usual, beautifully read. Thank you!

I really enjoyed the story up to the end at the point the giant monster appeared and the writer lost his way and wrapped it up with the "I died" jokey ending...was on the edge of my seat when in the cabin she said "who's nellie?"...that was cool scary...and your narration of course was spot on perfection as usual...

"I'd rather pleasure myself than have to worry about someone else's satisfaction"...& thus our narrator marks himself, with a sentiment that cuts away the human impulse as few do....

I liked this. This makes me think of something from Revival, a D&D podcast. The PCs found themselves in some chaotic mess of warped time and space where they saw their past selves and various alternate versions of them fighting illithids and displacer beasts. Jeron called on many alternate Jerons to fight alongside him and then they all lazed around.

I enjoyed it, very interesting and put me in mind of "Year Walk" the Scandinavian horror adventure.
Your use of different tones and intonation for different characters worked well, I didn't need to think who was speaking it just came naturally to the ear. Thanks to Edward for taking the time to show us his strings of reality. :-)

Updating my comment below, the attempts at pulling out some dark humour here sounded so much like modern American movie scripts that I called it quits and headed back to the wonderful anachronisms of H.P. Lovecraft's narrations.

Interesting point re: the rarity of voice-actors and narrators "getting it right". Unbelievably, there are a significant number of CBS Radio Mystery Theater episodes featuring skilled voice talent able, either by being from Maine or by possessing high-level skills, to speak in what sounds for all intensive purposes like an authentic Maine accent.

"There Were Other Versions of Us" is a short story written by American horror writer, Edward Lorn. It is told from the perspective of an aging loner on an isolated property in rural Maine, whose encounters with a figure from his past lead to a most unsettling conclusion.

I'm not a fan of the newer stories. The writers seem to think they are edgy by adding profanity and sexual content. They forget that the great authors of the past did not need these. Older authors used ingenious plots and characters to be edgy instead.
