If you like the music used throughout the series, be sure to check out the works of my good friend Glenn Alexander: glenalexander2.bandcamp.com
The piece used here isn't currently available for sale, but I'll keep bugging him about it...!
thank you so much!!!!
Your a creepy pasta treasure
The combined retro-futurism vibe of the "atom brains," old school Freudian psychology, and '40s language transposed to the 21st century sure is interesting.
Interesting that scifi at that time was already envisioning AI.
Yeah, a story basically about AI, but with phonograph records...
I love the remote outpost picture - beautiful, terrifying and nostalgic. It’s like a dream for me with cloudy darkish gloomy sky and the warm welcoming light from the outpost. I see myself being there.
Ever heard of the novel "Wool"?
Ditto....could not have said it better!!
Looks like Axis Chemicals (Batman)
I love that, when you're nostalgic for a time and/or place you've never been....
What a place to gather and exchange stories, eh?
I've always loved arctic horror tales since first watching the original The Thing from Another World (1951). I'm ready Ian for this Horrorbabble collection. 💀
I love arctic horror! It is a nice surprise. Thank you, Ian.
This was a really good one. Almost has an Event Horizon-y sort of sci-fi haunted house of man's own making feel to it.
The way you build the suspense reminds me of classic horror literature. Each paragraph feels like a descent into the unknown, and I can't help but keep turning the pages. Well done!
Thank you!
Great story and narration!
The picture is awesome. It totally sets the mood for the story. I cannot imagine two years in that place. Gonna need plenty of scotch, rum, rye, Zyn, pipe tobacco, cigars, and pepper jelly...plus lots of other things!!
Great job!
Love the back ground 😊
What an eerie and wonderful tale!
Bit of an "I, Robot" vibe here, love it. (Btw… Soon we’ll also have "horror at the polls," which is the next election cycle in both the States and England) 😅
Was going to make a "poll" joke but ya beat me to it. Well played.
I could listen to you babble every time!
Thank you for posting
In love with the art lately too
They should do an art book. I'd buy it.
This is great! I only have one single book by Kuttner, and I'd gladly get more if I could find them. He doesn't get nearly enough credit.
One of the greats.
New Kuttner for me!
Thank you very much Mr Babble.
This one was great! Genuinely loved the howling wind ambience, reminded me of At the Mountains of Madness!
Outstanding many thanks Ian!😎👍
Oh that ending... chef's kiss.
Love Henry Kuttner, and like another commenter mentions, always love a good remote outpost story!
Amazing IAN ❤
I thought the visual was beautifully haunting. The story was incredible and suspenseful. Excellent narration. Thank you 🤗💖🌟
Thanks, Amy!
A great reading of a classic... This channel curates horror stories in a manner that has a quality which, imho, exceeds any other UA-cam channel!
Considering Horrorbabble's prolific outout and (appropriate) self inposed restriction to open source material, I think Horrorbabble is perhaps the online equivalent to S.T. Joshi's exquisite sensitively and taste- HB's dedication to the sharing of great horror is admirable, especially re: the obscure stuff that would otherwise continue to disappear as all older stories can do.
Bottom line... Keep it up! (And, +1, as usual.). Cheers!
Thank you! Interesting you should mention Mr. Joshi... (watch this space)

Sry, I don't understand... am I missing some Internet thing? (Dang, I'm so old!)
@@HorrorBabble
Oh Yeah... 'Watch this space' re: Joshi...
I always watch this channel, but you have piqued my curiosity re: Joshi, my fav modern interpreter of Lovecraft! (He is a great editor of Lovecraftian stories, too, especially the 'Black Wings' collections of contemporary 'cosmic horror'!.
Cheers ÷
This was the first Kuttner story I read. Haven't thought about it for years.
You really brought this one to life Ian, I've always loved Antarctic horror, it has the same feeling of absolute isolation, and in an environment that's utterly hostile to life, so much that there's no escape, much like a haunted space station, unlike a usual haunted house story where the people could always just leave, it ups the stake when they are trapped.
It's chilling.
as always, a masterful display of atmospheric story telling, Bravo
Gives new meaning to the term ghost in the machine.
This story was considerably better than expected, and fairly fascinating.
The day we have to call for a therapist to fix our computers will be a dark one indeed.
Exceptional. Many thanks for sharing.
Imagined this story in the style of a Kubrick 2001 Space Odyssey type movie. Great tale!
Thank you Mr.Gordon and Horror Babble. Excellent, as always. Until next time.
Will listen to this right now.😊
There are often interesting reasons why people have gone into psychology. Alarmingly, not all have resolved or even identified their own issues.
I love horrorbabble and I don't care who knows it
Thanks, Joe!
WOW, this was a profound story. Ya'll are one of the best channels on the internet btw, reviving these stories and all the ideas and obscure ephemeral culture contained within is vital work.
*Brrrrrrrring forth the Arctic Horror* 🥶
*for thine Ice-Cold Heart yearns for the chills & thrills of a wicked wintry tale*

- Seriously though, I am freakin STOKED about this series!! 🙌
- My 2 MOST FAVORITE Horror sub-genres are Arctic & Ocean Horror…
…which I have Lovecraft & other Weird Tales authors to thank for that 😊
This was an interesting and I intriguing tale.. The music was just as haunting too... 🤘
How did I miss this? I'm happy now though, binge time!
Thank you!!
It’s 0 degrees here and I’m absolutely freezing! Immersion 100!
God bless you and your work 😊😊😊 deep respect for your work and passionate narration from Croatia-Europe ❤
GOD, Bless u and your family ❤
Thanks as always! Jen and I will certainly be returning to Croatia in the near future -- it's a beautiful country.
Thanks for the story, and, as always, the great narration.
I really like this, thank you for bringing this to life horrorbabble
Amazing story and narration 👍 Thank you Ian 🙂
Hey Ian. I know you usually like to take requests from members, but I was wondering if you'd ever consider doing The Uncommon Prayer Book by M.R James? James is one of my favorites. Along with Kuttner.
We'll take suggestions from anybody! We usually ask that they go via the website so that we can keep track of them, but in this case The Uncommon Prayer Book is already on our list for future reference.
Love the artwork
ian i fricking love arctic horror.... im sending you guys the biggest hug rn god im so stoked
YEAHHHHH AND A CHRISTMAS SPECIAL TO LOOK FORWARD TO!!!!!
DUDE I REALLY LIKE WHEN SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS DEPRESSION HE JUST LIKE ME FRRRRRR
"IM GOING TO MAKE CHILLI"
chili?
31:48 it wouldn't be an old-time story without characters mixing barbiturates and alcohol at the drop of a hat.
The idea of ghosts being hallucinations of psychic contamination is fascinating. Patterns and memes that become contagious, even resembling the psyche of the deceased. Very good creepy horror.
Great story! Can't wait for the next installment! Thanks Ian for all you do!
Thank god,i found you again.❤
I've been dealing with a particularly spiteful printer this morning, so this story is perfect.
I’m SO fascinated with the outpost picture, I wonder IF….. it’s real and perhaps, photoshopped….? It’s very detailed oriented. It, in its self, tells a story of mystery and horror. As a kid, I would look at picture books (what I used to call them) and made up my own stories of what I’m looking at. My imagination ❤ used to go wild, and still does.
There's no need for that kind of language
Most of the images we produce now are composite -- I have to admit that Photoshop does a heck of a lot of the work these days!
AMAZING, MR KUTTNER.ONTO A.I.IN 1943. TOP YARN IAN THANKS FOR THE READING MISTER 🥸👍
That was interesting.
I don't know about old England but New one is getting pretty cold right about now so I'm ready for some tropical horror. Preferably something from Key West 😅
Living in the deepest, darkest midlands of ye olde England, I can say it isn't exactly a Mediterranean summer's day out there.
Ah, one of Swayze’s finest.
I've come back to this one a couple of times, it's got a very Fritz Leiber feel to it (imo).
This was 1943 ? AI stuff is really good
A fascinating new take on the idea of the old ghost story. and we have to think----if we make thinking machines as complex as a human brain, is that machine brain as likely to fall victim to insanity?
Good Evening Ian
Anyone else keep hearing the first few guitar licks of Vice every time he says “Crockett” ?
Yup!
@@donaldmccleary9015 waah, wah-wa-wa, WEEEEAA-wa-wah-wah-waaah !!!
It was playing in my head the entire time I was recording the story!
These guys and their “Have a cigarette”😀
That felt like an old school Star Trek episode.
Hey love the readings! Is there anyway you guys could make a playlist with every video on the channel? I love the UA-cam shuffle playlist button so I can get listen to all the tales randomly 😊
The closest thing we have to that is this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLeNNKRLWxwoNw0RYnj7v3LN1iTHYerLzU.html
I think the radio atom brains are quantum AI the combination giving and solving answers with intellect.
I cannot wait for this year's Christmas Special. What's the premise this year?
We're returning to Winter Hill. It isn't a sequel, though.
Physicists today: probably? 🤷♂️
Nice twist on the old plot dodge for a "haunted" house wherein the 'ghost' is a madman or the family idiot, locked away from public view.
Warren is alive but stuck in the cargo hold of a _very_ slow boat from China. Currently he’s passing time making stop action movies with the anime figures from the cargo and his smartphone. It’s the only thing he can do to stop them from talking to him.
Totally makes sense
Warren might be in a radio atom brain
@@GodOfPlague I think warren is in some hellish perpetual death loop
Listening g from the ukwales❤
Yeeeeesss
Sounds like Isaac Asimov’s positronick brain. 🧠. He coined the term “robotics!” Wish u could do his “the Final Message.” Very relevant with all the AI discussions abounding around. 🐝🐝✨✨✨
Absolutely. Such a shame Asimov isn't available.
Is there a genre for Arctic horror? Because I love The Thing, At the Mountains of Maddness etc
💙💙💙
Better luck next time Warren
👍
I would love a video of this fellow and Internet Historian if they're not the same person.
Didn't understand why the attack at the end.
spoilers: basically a story about depressed ai, so cool.

Does anyone know what his accent is?
Some sort of British accent is all I can say with any confidence lol
I would think a Brit

Hells yes you say ghost you get a audience of undead .😮😂😂
They predicted global warming in 1943?
Kuttner was ahead of the curve!
