"The Wardrobe" is a work of horror fiction by British writer, M. D. Vickers. Professor John Strauber is a collector of macabre and unusual items. His latest purchase, a curious wardrobe, is in possession of a dark secret: a secret the good professor is eager to share with his associate, Doctor Jack Brownlow. I love MD Vickers :) There is a point in every story where I go "Oh ho ho and then he got eaten by his coffee table!" and another point where I go "Oh god this is a metaphor for my life I need to change some things!" Great writing.
I love this channel and it's educational nature regarding literature. And the performance and delivery is outstanding. This stories made me wish hadn't heard them when lying in my bed trying to sleep in the utter most positive way.
Been wanting to listen to this tale for a while, thanks for the upload. Just goes to show a wardrobe, a mad professor, a dodgy butler and a bottle of Pernod are never a good mix. Again, Kudos to Ian, Jenny et al. A great distraction to what is going on.
This is one of my three favorite stories/readings on the internet. Excellent Ian and Jen, excellent. You should be very proud. I'll have to listen to this version eight or nine times to see how it compares to the original, which I've listened to at least that many times.
The cover art is wonderful!! The inside even looks like the soft innards of a lurking beast! Left to my own devices I doubt I would have come up with something so perfect.
I very much enjoyed Jennifer's audio production contributions to your second offering of "Night Wire". I assure you, bc I do dabble in such things myself, it was impressive. Like the sacrifice of the unfortunate Dog in a previous museum story, the edits were "accepted...and....ENJOYED!!!"
Great story. I'll be listening to M.D. Vickers's other works in your repertoire after this. My only question is: why would Strauber want to feed his friends to the wardrobe? Did he have a grudge against them for some reason,or was he conducting some kind of gruesome experiment?
Hello I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I must say that each of your stores are extremely excellent! I look forward to hearing your next story! ☺
Hello Ian, do you still think you'll narrate "The Man Whom The Trees Loved?" Would so love to hear the combination of that awesome story and ur awesome voice 😊 just wondering
WTF characters?? I like MD Vickers’s stories but I have beef with this one. SPOILER ALERT: When a dude positions books you want on a killer carnivorous cupboard covetous of consummation of your corpus... grab a snooker cue and knock them off of it. Ask yourself why someone would place them on the thing that kills people. Why did he do that? I may have missed something but did the wardrobe owner want his homeboys eaten? Did he hate them? Just an asshole? And FFS, protagonist... AGAIN, SPOILER ALERT!!... When your host has purposefully whacked somebody out and collects clippings of the deaths this thing has caused, clearly into it for some reason, you CALL THE POLICE. Leaving an apparently unhinged psychopath (who’s just engineered a murder) with a thing that disappears bodies without a trace and being like, “I haven’t hung out with him in two years”... NOT cool.
I would've said, "I hope you enjoyed that meal...it'll be your LAST!!" Next day's headline: STRAUBER MANSION MYSTERIOUSLY BURNED TO THE GROUND LAST NIGHT.

“I wondered if (he) would enjoy life more if he was dead”
What a classic line!
I laughed at that one😄
“.....a scream that made something in my throat actually rip.....” WOW! Well written, well read. Thank you.

One of the funniest written horror tales I've ever laid my ears upon.
I always forget the sense of humour in this story. Poor bloody Straps.
Your channel is a treasure
Don't worry, people. James is in Narnia now.

Every time you say Dr Jack, my mind thinks Dr Jekyll. I don’t know why, but I do love that book.
the audio is certainly clearer, but i liked the heavy atmosphere of the old version better 😅

Great story and narration. Strauber is a great host!

WHY did he want them eaten, is what I meant, clearly he did.
I would've said, "I hope you enjoyed that meal...it'll be your LAST!!"

I knew staying in the closet was hell, but staying in this wardrobe is worst...
