It got quite chilling near the midpoint and didn’t let up til the end. Wonderful how the author took the common trope of daylight being a safer time (with the protagonist even voicing such a thought) and then turned it on its head with the sudden appearance of the woman and the bird. The terror, the uncanny, the palpable tension in the air; all sublime.

Fantastic story and narration. This is a unique and very good story. It is hard to believe the author was a one-time contributor to Weird Tales.
    This is a fantastic tale.

One of the things I do is voice over work for a living. Have a deep baritone voice and everyone loves it but let me tell you, if you don't know as a voice actor how much hard work it takes to deliver the message that he delivers, he is amazing.

This is a rendition of the fairy tree myth in Ireland. It's considered bad luck to cut one down or in any way disturb the tree. And there's another myth at play here, but I'll leave that one for your listening.

Thanks for sharing about the fairy tree myth of Ireland. I guess we have a somewhat similar mythical belief in my home-country, the Philippines in which it is said that the engkanto and elementals love to inhabit cool trees such as the balete (genus Ficus) and sour fruit-bearing trees. We used to have a santol (Sandoricum koetjape) at home which according to the diviner was the home of an evil mythical being.

@@simone222 Me and my members are studying a particular Fig(Ficus fistulosa) tree that is supposedly known to be only unique to Singapore and Borneo here in the Philippines. We're going to look for the said tree in the very deep faunas of Western Mindanao, As avid fans of supernatural. This mythology youre talking about will surely add a little spice to our search. Not to mention each of us will have to split up in a forest with only our basic outdoor training.

      Lying kin…
I wonder what possessed all the pets; where they were at when they weren’t where they were supposed to be; & if any behave obscurely after reuniting with their homes? 🐈All these, and more, questions do I have of your comment, for I understand the quotations at the for front & the end of type to mean a written quotation, & so my mind wonders…where have these cats been, how did the disappear, were they lured by a who or taken by a how? Oh so many questions, only you Eris123 have the answers behind this posted mystery. 🐈‍⬛So mysterious, such miraculous arrival; but from what journey, from where & from when & why, why, WHY, WHY?!?!!👹🕳🐇

People had different standards back in the day. I remember seeing a ranch cabin in Arches National Park, UT built by the first and only settlers of that barren expanse of desert, and it was barely bigger than the hut in this story. Privacy was hardly a thing back then, it seems!

I was listening to a story from this channel before falling asleep the other day and now I can't find the same story again so I can continue where I left off. Maybe someone here can help me. It's a story where the main character is warned to keep his cross with him and that evil will try to trick him into dropping it. He then has some encounters in which beings try in different ways to fool him into letting go of his cross.
