      Bought this unit last summer, as soon as it arrived, got busy and had no time to get out on the lake. Gotta watch this later. For some reason, the wife thinks I should be interested in this stupid Billy The Kid movie she's watching. Don't buy your wife cast iron frying pans, hurts way worse than aluminum. Purchased a boat with the vivid 9” already installed. When I made the purchase I assumed I’d upgrade the electronics. After messing around with the Garmin I will not be buying anything. I’m actually very fond of it and its simplicity of use. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants an all around good electronic device for fishing. Not to even mention the price difference between some of the other devices. I saw one comment that said it takes the fun out of it. I tend to agree with that. And can also testify that the boats who have the high tech electronics don’t have any more fish in the cooler than I have. All they have is the ability to watch the fish not bite. They do not care about your electronics I guarantee it.

    Thank you sir, I am not one to comment a lot, but you just helped me over come my anxiety of what it looks like, the features, and I will be buying one just to fish and see structures, I can afford a livescope but to me that sorta takes away the fun with fishing I guess you can say. I like to work for them and say, dang I did a good job or next time I will have better luck.

    One thing as anglers we don't hear about much any more is flashers. I know some units have a flasher display and some don't. I caught the biggest smallie of my life on lake Erie while running to another spot. That flasher jumped and I accidentally found a small rock pile that wasn't on my preloaded maps. Have never forgotten that moment. With that said, I still don't utilize that feature as often as I should. Electronics sure have come a long ways. I haven't owned a Garmin unit yet, but these sure look nice!

    • @LowBrowFishing
      @LowBrowFishing  2 роки тому +2

      These do have flashers built in. They even mimic the old-school Humminbird dial on the screen. I was debating on mentioning it, but the video was already running too long and I wasn't even sure if anyone would know what I was talking about, lol. Those old flashers could really be dialed in and if you knew how to read them, they could really put you on fish!

      My eyes aren't as good as a younger man's are anymore, so I only ever like to have 2 things running on the screen at once. If I could have sidescan up top and down imaging on the bottom (or vice versa) that would be great. But you can only do it with 3 things, and the two things on bottom are hard for me to see.

    • @LowBrowFishing

    I bout 3 units like this on clearance. But I wist I could put a lakemaster chip in it. I'm used to humminbird. But I will have to try this unit some more I guess. I'm not sure how to use that plotter or if I can use it like a normal GPS. Say it's dark when I come back from fishing, will I be able to follow my track back.

    • @LowBrowFishing
      @LowBrowFishing  11 місяців тому

      It should automatically connect to any available satellite signal right after you power the unit on. That will give you an accurate date and time of day. From there, it's pretty easy to get to the map screen as it's on the main menu page. Following your tracks is super easy. Just look at the User Data menu at the bottom of the main screen and it should have all of your waypoint and tracks saved there. Select the one you want and you should have no trouble following it back.

      I have both sizes and I don't really have a problem being able to see either of them. However, I have the 7" on my console by the steering wheel, so I'm never really far from it. The larger one I have mounted on the bow and I can still make it out clearly when I'm working the trolling motor. So if you're going to be standing back a bit from the unit, you may want the larger screen of the 9". Otherwise, the 7" should be just fine and it's a bit cheaper in price. What settings do you use to see your drop shot as it falls under the boat?

    • @LowBrowFishing
      @LowBrowFishing  2 роки тому

      Theoretically, you can use your down imaging (Called ClearVü on the Garmin Striker series) to see your drop shot, but only if your bait is inside the tight cone of the sonar, which is why down imaging provides such highly detailed images. Just select ClearVü (or a combination of ClearVü and another type of sonar) from the main screen. If you're jigging directly over your transducer, then your lure should show up, although, given the side-scrolling nature of most down imaging screens, it won't look right. You might have to go into the settings to adjust the colors to get a better view. But in all honesty, this isn't the intended purpose of down imaging, which is to give a detailed scan of the underwater environment and not really act as a livescope.

I look at a seller's Ebay rating, which most of them are very serious about because that reflects how much trust they have and how much business they can do. I also look to see if anyone had issues with the seller and what those issues were. You can easily look into any of them just by clicking on the seller's name and explore from there.

    • @LowBrowFishing
      @LowBrowFishing  2 роки тому +1

      I don't see why you can't use the HDS. I've never used one, but from others I've talked to they're good little units that work well. When I'm looking for a battery for my electronics, the main thing I look for is amp hours - or basically how much charge I'll get out of the battery. Lower amp hours means shorter life and usage time. 80-100 amp hours is usually enough for most anglers. But that is just a rating, it doesn't mean you'll get 80-100 hours of usage before having to recharge. I'd suggest taking a look at your usage needs and then searching for a good battery based around that. I also use lead/acid batteries since they are far cheaper and I can't really tell a difference from lithium.
