The fact that the 911 operator sounded so unbothered and got rude to the social worker about the address was ridiculous! Operators are supposed to know how to deal with people under stress yet I feel like the roles were reversed in this case; the social worker was the professional one who kept her composure while the whiny dispatcher lost his patience.
Isa legit. The operator has the blood of those poor children on his hands. Hearing the fear in that woman’s voice and knowing what happened to those kids breaks my heart
I just listened to the full audio of the call and it is even worse than I imagined. He spent 10 minutes asking her asinine questions about Josh's hair color and height and making snide remarks at her expense. Then he marked the call as a "routine call" (even though she repeatedly stated that she smelled gasoline) and took 8 minutes to inform the police about it. In a subsequent interview, he boasted about his wealth of experience and shrugged that he was just clumsy. But don't worry, he was "reprimanded."
I remember the Super Bowl was about to start so when my dad and his friends were talking about it they said that they thought the operator just didn’t care because he was more worried about wanting to watch the Super Bowl
As a 911 dispatcher, this infuriated every bone in my body! You are responsible for being aware of the news and ongoing cases like this. What an idiot.
I'm not a dispatcher and it infuriated me on so many levels from his lack of compassion, complete rudeness, failure to assess the situation properly, etc. I mean seriously, AFTER she tells him she's with CPS there with the children on a supervised visit and the dad had just lost custody, the same dad who took the kids inside slammed the door in her face and locked it not letting her in, she can hear one of the boys screaming and crying, and she smells gas...after all this he has the ignorance and audacity to say he will have an officer "call" (not respond, but call) her because they have to respond to life threatening emergencies first... I mean wtf did he think was happening that they were throwing her a surprise party?!? It wouldn't matter if he knew about this case, in spite of the case, the situation she's described is obviously urgent and a life threatening situation. I sincerely hope he was fired, and quite honestly he doesn't even have the intelligence to clean the toilets at McDonald's. ...Sorry just so irritated at his rudeness and complete incompetence.
Sheila Bryant I agree 100%. it’s extremely ignorant on the dispatchers end. We get daily emails about ongoing cases and things to be looking out for. A unit should always be dispatched to something like this. ESPECIALLY when she says she can smell gasoline. When the woman was unaware of the address, the immediate protocol is to get the nearest intersection, not just sit there waiting for her to find it. Horrible work.
You can literally hear the social workers voice loses all hope when she realizes the kids are probably going to die after the dispatcher tells her they need to assist life threatening emergencies first.
It's so maddening to hear! Especially because one of my longtime BFFs is a dispatcher, and she prides herself so much on always being of service to the people who call. I was naive enough before heading this to assume most dispatchers were like her...but sadly, apparently not.
Caitlin Bea i don’t think they would’ve made it in time anyways. It’s probably better that they haven’t, because if they did try to break in, who knows if they would’ve been hurt. The woman should’ve called for this kids to open the door immediately or should’ve asked a neighbor to help break in and grab the kids.this is one of the most disturbing and frustrating cases of all!!! Its scary how the mom predicted that something was going to happen to her and her family. I hope she gets a happily ever after with her kids in heaven.
I was in high school and lived in the area when she disappeared and when he blew the house up. I think everyone in Utah was horrified and a gold majority were livid with the 911 operators, dcfs and the legal system for all the slips.
Literally what I said let alone no disrespect to the woman but with someone who doesn't seem like she would've been able to fight or defend the kids if he decided to get bold and do something whilst she was there
Yeah and even visitation at his private residence should have been with someone properly trained to be able to control, fight and physically protect those kids. What if he tried to attack the lady too? Im sure she wouldn’t be trained to fight him. I reckon a policeman should have been there during those visitations
I’m not finished the video yet, but I think Josh DEFINITELY has an involvement with this, I bet he murdered her, got blood all over the carpet so he washed it or bleached it, let it dry, went to dispose of the body and as he was returning from disposing the body found the police at his house, so when they asked where he was he said he had been camping because obviously he wouldn’t say “Oh I was returning from disposing of my wife’s body”
911 dispatcher basically: "so what you're saying is this mentally unstable man that has been in the news locked you out of his home, his house smells like gasoline, and the kids are crying.. Imma put this on hold, someone will be over.. Eventually"
"Has he threatened to kill the kids before?" "No." "Emergency services have to respond to life threatening cases first." As if it's normal for people to get explicit warnings on previous occasions before they're killed. The first is often a moment before they die.
Right? The kids are crying, she smells gasoline, and he is only allowed to see his kids on supervised visits (which typically doesn't just happen for no reason). But 911 dispatcher doesn't see how it's a life threatening case. I hope he faced some kind of repercussions for his negligence.
I know! The 911 dispatcher, I'm furious!! He should be locked up as an accessory, friggen hate him, everytime I hear this I wanna pull my hair out, stupid a -hole
I hope that first dispatcher stays awake every single night, replaying how he didn’t take this call seriously. Those children’s lives are partly on his hands.
I recently watched Stephane Harlowe cover this case and she mentioned that this dispatcher does carry a lot of guilt over this and in fact now trains other dispatchers on how to handle these situations (much better than he did).
Man as soon as she said she smelled gasoline that should have been a emergency. This pisses me off poor baby boys. They didn't do anything to deserve this.
Sulema Sanchez exactly that’s the most important part of the whole case. I just hate so many life’s were lost over law enforcement mistakes and cps. DO BETTER.
Kimberrsworld in an urgent situation I can certainly see her drawing a blank; remember it's not a house she lives at, and just because she may visit the home, it doesn't mean she'd know the address. I'm 99% certain that dispatcher had a way to do a speedy GPS ping, he was just an ignorant, callous, incompetent asshole. The reason I'm certain he could've, or at minimum, known the street block she was on; remember when she called back, the new dispatcher immediately asked her if it was about the house fire...logically she saw the address her phone pinged from and it was in the vicinity of other callers who had called in; she then asked if she knew the house number. Regardless, it's a moot point, unfortunately those poor boys fate was sealed long before the dispatchers became involved, they were sealed when an idiot judge and the system set up to protect them continually failed them and even required the children to have visitations with a homicide suspect and person proven mentally unstable. So sad.
@@cassidyrodriguez3883 i had a kid used to be like "autumns my girlfriend" a year later I saw him again and he goes "I don't wanna be your boyfriend anymore you got fat" jokes on him apparently I'm thicc so hm
I grew up in a TINY town in Washington. Nothing ever happens here because there are literally less than 2,000 people here. Well, I used to play softball against a girl from the next town over which is equally small (it's basically the same town). She had 2 sisters, and one of them went to school one day and told her school counselor, "My mommy and daddy kill people and bury them in the backyard". They didn't believe her. Lo and behold, a few years later, we find out that the Knoteks, a family everyone knew, were fucking SERIAL KILLERS who took in people who were vulnerable and in need, tortured and murdered them. I would love to see her cover the Knoteks.
Looking at it in hindsight makes it seem that simple, but it wasn't. At that point it had been quite a while since Susan's disappearance and the kids had certainly been exposed to all sorts of ideas and thoughts, as well as potentially leading questions. Kids have this wonderful ability to form false memories, which is why, when interviewing children, only specialists can. So yeah, it was suspicious, and everyone already new Josh had killed Susan, but those kids just couldn't be trusted in light of everything they'd been exposed to.
“his name WAS charles” i didn’t know about this case nor how it was going to end... but my heart just dropped at the start of the video when i realised she was using past tense to describe the children...
Omg right. He was a dick! And when she asked about if they can track her via gps "nope." And got snarky like "I'm waiting for you to tell me the address!" Like ok....
If I were the woman supervising that visit, I would have smashed through a window and gotten in there anyway possible to get those kids, I can’t believe that the dispatcher said they need to respond to life threatening stuff first. Are you kidding me?
That home video of her documenting their belonging was sooo eerie. "He bought this all on my credit" "he got angry and broke this." Idk to me it sounded like a cry for help. So messed up :\
Yep I think shes documenting all the expensive stuff he continued to buy after they filed for bankruptcy. Also for the courts to see how he used her credit and broke her stuff and was abusive. He gave her no money for food so I reckon she was about ready to leave with those boys. I felt sorry for Charlie for the way she shouted at him. He was only 2.
I have watched several documentaries and listened to an entire 10 episode podcast on this case and she made that video at the request of her divorce lawyer she had went and seen shortly before he killed her.
@@Ali-zn6sg the law, the carpet was wet, did they get a warrant and check it out?? Washington state let Josh have visits and he killed them, visits should have stayed at the cps office. She didn't have the address unbelievable.
And it is so frustrating that the 911 operator didn’t even consider it an emergency that the potential murderer had the kids in possession without supervision!!!!! Like wtf that seems like an emergency to me!
_Roseeee Not that it at all excuses his behavior, but he now teaches new dispatchers and runs programs to make sure that dispatchers are well trained and know how to act
The lady who called Could have been a little more urgent about the situation. Just listening to her speak to the operator just ugh made me so anxious and angry.
I have a theory that Maybe Josh and his dad talked about moving in together so they can both inappropriate things to his his both him and his dad. It's so sickening.
@@woodworkingandepoxy643 Yes.. I thought this from the very beginning when they said the dad would watch “inappropriate” things with Josh as a child. My mind immediately went to dad being a predator and unfortunately Josh growing up to be the same way with his own children.
When Stephen talked about how Susan had this mad crush on him and was openly sexual toward him it sort of makes me want to throw up. This creep was revealing his "fantasies" not what had really happened. I think he was a grade-A pervert who lusted for this beautiful young woman and the fact that she was his son's wife made not one tiny bit of difference to him. Given how warped he was I would be amazed if Josh had been even the tiniest bit normal. That song that Stephen wrote about Susan made my skin crawl. When he jumped on Susan's father asking him why they were holding up their signs "so close to Josh's house", I wanted to scream at him, 'What would be a more appropriate place to conduct a search for a woman who has gone missing than close to HER house?" Oh, did this embarrass your son, Stephen? Too bad, since he's the low-life who murdered not only his wife but also their two sons. Both of these two (I won't call them men but both Stephen and Josh) are totally disgusting and cringe-worthy. Josh's tearful, "I'm not able to live without my sons" is a bunch of BS. If you are not able to live without your sons, kill YOURSELF you moron. Don't kill two little boys!
I've heard from other places that have covered this case that He was financially abusive to her. She had to ask him for money for everything including food for their kids and even then sometimes she would have to ask friends to lend food so the boys could eat dinner. Also, from what I heard the video was taken because she had gone to see a divorce lawyer and was told to document all of the things in their house that he spends an exorbitant amount of money on so he could weasel out of child support
The way and tone of voice when she told her son to be quiet just made me kind of mad no one should talk to there kids like that he was like what 2 or 3 toddlers are loud and hyper, it was just kind of mean of her to say it like that.
Agreed!! I live 1.5 hrs from Puyallup,WA. I often drive through there, & always remember what happened to these poor boys. I also think of the poor social worker, wondering how she copes. Same w/ the grandparents. Just sad how it all went down.
shes an idiot, she wanted to pull out of driveway when she smelled gas, she didnt give a crap about those kids, did she try to get in the house? was she trying to get in when she called 911? no she was already in her car ready to jet, all she cared about was herself.
@Wanderlust I'm sure she wanted to pull away into the street so she and her vehicle wouldn't blow up! She was trying her best to get help there for the boys. I doubt she just threw her hands up and said oh well I'll call 911 and leave. Let's blame her right? I can't imagine the guilt she has felt since this day. They're not allowed to bust down a door. They're not the police. They're a civilian with a degree. Not a gun!
@@wanderlust1229 i’m sorry but.....what the hell could the social worker have even done to prevent this? she would’ve just died with them if she had managed to break in. she’s a social worker, not police officer. she didn’t have a gun to defend herself with.
Doesn't matter if the spouse is usually the main suspect or not, if you are the main suspect you shouldnt be allowed to see the kids it's just common sense yes that's awful for all the innocent families but I'd rather tear innocent families apart temporarily than hand innocent kids over to potential murderers any day
@@J0SHUAKANE I watch a ton of true crime. I am perfectly aware of how shitty the police are. I stand by my statement that I'd rather keep innocent families apart than allow one more monster like this to kill his kids.
Its the same old same old. If he was an african american man, he'd be dead. If he was an african american woman, he'd be in jail. If he was a white woman, he'd be under house arrest. But he is a white man. So, he remained free until he finished his evil plans to take the lives of himself and his children.
“We respond to life threatening situations first” “This could be life threatening” “Has he threatened their lives before” “I DONT KNOW” ABSOLUTE BS!! It doesn’t matter if he’s threatened it before!! Their lives are in danger why does that even matter. The fact that if she would’ve just said yes that he would’ve taken it more seriously infuriates me
Caseworker: Hello, I was supervising a visit for two kids with a mentally unstable father after he was a paedo and being investigated for the possibility of murdering his wife, and raping and starving his kids; I hear two boys screaming and crying, I smell a lot of gasoline, no one is replying or opening the door, and the family and in-laws of this man are receiving creepy and concerning e-mails threatening suicide and wanting his sons (potential down) with him. Can you help? Dispatcher: I'm sorry, we need to contact someone to confirm that this is life threatening. We need to know where you live. Like, fucking what, mate!?!?
That poor social worker, even though it’s not her fault what so ever. She will have to live with this the rest of her life, all bc the state failed those two sweet boys. Not to mention what Susan’s parents are living through now. Not only to lose your daughter, and not know where her body is...but then to lose their two grand babies to such a horrific death. Prayers for all involved! Yes, someone should be held responsible for letting the POS “father” have ANY contact!
Kelsey vlog channel I live in SLC and exactly. Utah’s social workers suck. She was doing everything she could and yet the state didn’t listen. Fuck this still upsets me.
I’m so angry at the fact that the dispatcher said “they have to respond to life threatening situations” LIKE THAT IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION!!! WTH, this case is mind blowing and so sad. Those kids shouldn’t have died like that. And the case should’ve been handle SO differently
Watching this in 2020, I had to check up on the case and see how the lawsuit went for Susan's Parents. They were awarded $98 million dollars. No amount of money will bring back their grandsons and daughter, or make up for how they were failed, but I am glad they won.
Whenever someone goes missing and their spouse isn't proactively trying to look for them, the spouse is probably the perpetrator. It was the same with Chris Watts too
Scott petterson did look for his wife. He cheated on her but never stoped looking. I'm not sure if he's innocent but they did not prove with out a doubt thatch murdered her.
The supervised visits should’ve been at a CPS building. They should’ve never been allowed to go to his house. Also, the 911 operator should be held somewhat accountable for not prioritizing the call as life-threatening.
Yeah, she even stated in the call that she was a social worker and that he just slammed the door on her! Huge red flag. They were acting as if it were a domestic dispute.
And the fact that she said she could hear the boys screaming. I mean, I feel like she could’ve sounded a little more distressed.. but this is something that is going to haunt her for the rest of her life. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. The 911 dispatch dismissed tons of different trigger phrases and it makes me mad. Josh was killing himself anyways.. the boys didn’t need to be brought into it. It upsets me so much.
Brittany Bilson Unfortunately I feel it was too late once he slammed the door. Even if authorities showed up im sure he would’ve blasted the place no matter what and they wouldn’t have survived that :( He was suicidal he wasn’t gonna stop for anything or anyone. But yes that dispatcher was a total douche
I literally threw my hands in the air when the dispatcher said that they had to respond to other calls before they would get there. It's literally a supervised visit for a reason, dude. I hope he was relieved of his duties.
What I don't understand is why the boys weren't taken to a child psychologist to talk about their drawing of them in the van and how they said their mom was in the trunk. kids express themselves with what they see in drawings. it's why psychologists use that technique with kids to express their thoughts, feelings and what they have seen. they saw mom and dad step out of the vehicle and only the dad came back. like hello, the evidence then shows that she is in that trunk, and you said he got rid of the car. and why didn't the person he asked about hiding a body report his ass? I guess he or she was evil too.
Something similar happened with me and my brother. We were taken to a child psychologist because the judge ordered us to, to see if my dad was fit to be around us. The court appointed child psychologist interviewed us and said our father should NEVER be around us alone. The judge (who ordered us to see the psychologist in the first place) saw the recommendation that we should not be around our father, and the judge IGNORED IT and threw it out. We were made to go see him even though it was documented that he would be a threat towards our safety. The justice system is completely fucked, even if you go about all the right steps.
That kid was saying that his mother was remaining with the crystals! Were can you find the crystals??? In the mine's! Where is Susan? With the crystals!
This family's misfortunes were mishandled by so many branches of authority. A true train wreck. Most of these videos feature a case where the police were slow to take things seriously and the main perpetrator.
Do you happen to know what type of psychologist this is called? or the field? I want to be a psychologist that helps children with past trauma or something related to this.
I’m a supervised visitation monitor in WA, we do trainings on this case. The grandparents recently won a lawsuit against the state. My heart breaks for these kids and their family, the system failed them!
That's awful. Definitely should not have let the kids visit their father like that. I would not blame the caseworker but the courts and agency should be held responsible. Also, those 911 calls where the dispatchers are rude makes me want to yell. You have distressed people on the line, so do not lose your cool. This is such a sad case.
Angela Marie couldn't agree with you more! Those children should have only had supervised visits as previous - and definitely not in the father's home. Those drawings and statements of the children should have been taken seriously and investigated thoroughly before continuing with ANY paternal visitation. Such a tragic story and so much loss for Susan Cox's family. My heart goes out to them. God bless.
Catherine Brock indeed. It's very hard in those situations I'm sure. The judge probably sympathized with the father who was most likely a sociopath, thus very good at lying. Of course who knows, there are many questions unanswered. It's so sad.
I'm a 911 dispatcher and those two idiots pissed me off!!!! I would NEVER treat a caller like that. And a "father" essentially kidnapping his children during a supervised visit is DEFINITELY a priority 1 call!
Also, they should not have been visiting with that creep anyway! Those drawings and cartoons are how pedophiles groom children, and anyone with half a brain recognizes that. He was definitely doing something to those poor babies. DHS is absolutely liable for their deaths. The system is broken, and has to be fixed. The only way that can happen is through litigation that changes/creates laws.
And at that point they were at the age where what they say wouldn't/should be l a ughed off like they were possibly 9 and 7 so I mean plus I'm sorry but if I suspect my daughter's husband killed her and he has sexual issues if they at any point are resistant to see said person they're not going fine me 🖕
@@claire040776 you're trying to be rude for no reason. I was saying they were at the age where what they were saying/drawing shouldn't have been shrugged off, he shouldn't have had visits at all let alone visits at his house, if I were the grandparents and the kids were talling me they don't want to go to the house of the person who most likely killed my daughter or the same person who has sexual problems and is mentally ill i wouldn't allow it visitation or not they can fine me or throw me in jail idc he's not taking the kids.
When the boys said they didn't want to go to their dad's house, it's a common thing when people feel like something's wrong. Especially children. Cats do the same exact thing, they run away from the house and then pass away. With humans, They say goodbye, or they don't want to leave.
Yep. The day my husband got hit by a car and almost died 6 months ago I woke up with the sense that something wasn't right and something terrible was going to happen that day. I almost didn't go to the gym that morning because I felt I needed to be at home with my husband. He had gotten his second call for the day (tow truck driver) and he hesitated walking out of the door and I had never seen him do that before.
Gloria Moore this is an old comment but i thought you were going to say he passed away oh my gosh. im so glad he's okay :,( always trust ur gut feeling
Josh should have never been able to have those kids in his home... a monitored facility maybe... I can't imagine the helplessness of that social worker... trying to help those kids and can't 😢
Honestly I would have broken in through a window or something and gotten in. Although she probably would have just died too. So sad. Idk how they didn't see this as life threatening when the dad had to have supervised visits and locked the person supervising out, and the children are crying inside. A distress call made about children should always be a number 1 priority, regardless of the circumstances.
@@marisapereyra5436 they said the social worker had waited for several minutes for something, that's not including the amount of time it took her to get in, she could maybe have broken in and tried to save the boys. Every second counted in the situation.
Honestly like correct me if I'm wrong but why didn't they search their house and look through the search history or speak to the kids themselves and after all of this they should've never let him around the kids let alone at the house with the kids because the kids didn't have to die if they did their jobs
honestly there are so many things in this story that don't even make sense for starters the kids? like come on that drawing and statement they made was a huge red flag and no one seemed to even care. and a camping trip? so suddenly and how nervous he was in the interview. RED flags everywhere

It just surprises me how stupid the dispatcher calls r in these videos. They r so rude and asking so many unnecessary and repeated questions. They r waisting so much precious time, time that could of been spent saving lives!! I just can’t believe how these people we call for help end up not really being that much help at all!

People don't understand when they say no abortions that I would rather save the child from that life. Some of the worst things happen and go under the rug. Also the feelings you feel as an adult and child from not being wanted. It's a life time of mental illness.
bee I’m pro choice but it will never be my choice, I’m in a position to care for a child but other people have the right to do as they please with their own body. I do think that we should value the lives of children who are already out of the womb. I agree that the worst things happen and are swept under the rug. I see why people would rather get an abortion than put their child in foster care.
@@TheV8lerie Same for me pro choice. I was there before laying on the table. I had an 80% neither of us would make it. It was the last time I could have another child. I would rather risk it then never have him. What gets me if pro lifers complain about paying others welfare but are pro life. Most children who grow up will be in the system. If the mother keeps the child and needs Financial support, they complain. They will not be happy either way.
They don't look at all aspects of it. I am a grown adult but i would have rather never had this life and I'm away from the abuse but still suffer the ptsd, depression and anxiety. It's with me for life.
After watching all of it.... this is awful... and I know the dcs worker did not expect anything like that to happen... but why let the kids run off ahead? For the judge to allow the visitations in his home so soon... so fucking stupid.
Well it all happened quick enough that even with a competent dispatcher, emergency services might not have gotten there in time or got the door open/kids out in time.
Crocheting Canuck that’s true... I don’t think the dcs worker should have allowed the children to take off inside the home without her... but we’re all human and who would expect that to happen
I really don’t understand the mindset of someone who could do this. I love my kids more than I love anything else in this universe. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.💔😢
Third eye Brunette the fact that he was planning on ending his life anyways.. he should’ve left the boys out of it. That was the most selfish, devastating, frustrating things to have ever happen. Those poor boys.
This is pure speculation on my part, but I'm guessing after his experiences with his own father, if he was in a cycle of the same behavior, in his mind he didn't want his kids growing up to be like him (which, if he was treating his kids the same way...). This whole thing reads like a cheap, contrived novel that you could never imagine to be a true story in a million years.
I used to be Mormon and Susan’s dad was one of my bible study teachers and he’s one of the sweetest men and just talking about the boys made him tear up because he knew he did everything he could and he still lost them. Probably one of the most heartbreaking things.
While we are criticizing the 911 operator let's not forget that there may be a bit of blame to lay at the feet of the woman who was calling him. Could she have been any more vague? In my opinion she did not do much to convey a sense of urgency or a sense that this was life threatening. She did not even know the address of the house to give the dispatcher and had to keep him waiting while she located it. If this was such an urgent case (which of course it was) why on earth didn't she have the address at her finger tips to give the dispatcher. So perhaps we could cut the dispatcher just a little bit of slack? And really why are we blaming the social worker OR the dispatcher? How about we put the blame where it actually should be placed...on the shoulders of the POS who killed those children...Josh Powell?

It's incredibly sad when a system that's supposed to be in place to protect children fails them repeatedly ultimately leading to their brutal and horrific demise.
Being a dispatcher myself, those people get hit hard when they’re rude like that and it turns out they underestimated the situation. But every call is treated like a life threatening emergency, even on the “nonemergency” line. And I understand him waiting on the address but you still gather info and TRACK their phone. 911 lines can be tracked, it’s not always accurate but it gives you an idea.
Thank you for what you do! The very few times I've called in because I saw something where I was worried someone was hurt/about to hurt themselves, even when I wasn't sure they're like "we have units en route to you RIGHT NOW" and give me an approximate location and were super on point.
Their relationship reminds me so much of my ex and I. I stayed in an abusive relationship for almost 10 years cause every time I tried to leave, I was threatened with my kids being taken away. I finally got the courage to leave and had to go without keeping my kids, could only see them for almost a year. My current husband then helped me fight to get them and we've had them solely for over a year now. I pray for anyone who goes through this or is going through this ❤

What pisses me off is they are blaming everyone else, the families, the people who THEY subcontracted to actually handle the children, that lady was not even their employee. CPS is responsible for more missing children than any one entity combined, more children go missing through child protective services than anything else. Government bodies are shit, people who work these government jobs don’t give a fuck about anybody, they care only about their paychecks and their fucking days off.
“I smell gasoline, and the kids are trapped in the house” “Ok well the cops need to respond to more important life threatening things” That dispatcher was AWFUL
As someone who watches these kinds of vids right before bed, I really appreciate the warning at the beginning. I think I’ll save this one for tomorrow! ❤️
"A letter of reprimand was sent to the 911 operator who handled the emergency call from a social worker seeking help as Josh Powell killed his sons and himself in his Graham, Washington, home in February." Oh. Well. _Fantastic_ to hear there was some consequences for the guy. I mean, two kids got attacked with a hatchet then blown up but he got a _letter_
There was a documentary that alleges he eventually committed suicide. I’ve yet to substantiate that claim but honestly, I’m weary of this whole thing, I don’t wish that on anyone but it may be true and if so at least he knew he blew it, unfortunately lots of lives were lost and destroyed, no happy ending.
@@waynocarrowiano4367 yeah he did the wrong thing but do you think if he had followed protocol the outcome would be any different? seems like everything happened pretty quickly and the father was determined to kill them whether cops were there or not
This case still haunts me. My heart breaks for the mom/dad-grandma/grandpa. I hope she will eventually be found and returned to her family. -not knowing where her remains are weighs heavy on my heart 😢
Rtytanicj my feelings exactly. I live in Utah and this has always been such a horrible story. What the Cox’s have gone through is devastating - to lose your daughter and your grandchildren. Unimaginable loss to me. Hopefully one day soon they will find her remains so she can be placed to rest next to her boys. Also so it can finally give this grieving family some comfort to know where their daughter is. 💔
As if losing Susan with no answers wasnt tragic enough. It is so heartbreaking and infuriating how many burning red flags were ignored. Really unacceptable just how many people failed those little boys.
What’s so ironic about this case is that we’re always encouraged to warn the authorities if we notice something strange, and in this case, Josh’s sister and the case worker did that, but still people did not listen or take them seriously. It’s so sad because in other cases, it’s too late when the authorities are warned and you still get the same result.
This case really got to me. I’m Mormon and got married young. Like Susan my husband was abusive. I ended up leaving after a year and a half with the clothing on my back and my bible. I suspect that Susan made the video so that in the event that she had to flee the house with her children she would have a record of her belongings and items Josh had broken to show her lawyer. I’m in school to become a Social Worker, and cannot imagine how the Social Worker feels after witnessing this tragedy. Shame on the 911 operator for not taking the call seriously. If you are in an abusive relationship please find help and leave! It’s absolutely heartbreaking how many women are killed by their spouse.
Yup. You're right. At the beginning of the video she says that her laywer suggested she make the video and she'd been talking to him about divorce. She needed to protect her assets and her life. Sadly she couldn't do either
Dana , I think you have been very brave for leaving and starting a fresh life . I wish you all the very best in your new life and career as a social worker . I saw a documentary on Sky about this case over a year ago and it absolutely broke my heart 💔. Those poor little boys , what they saw , what they had to deal with . And when they found them dead they were holding each other’s hands . That police dispatcher should have been sacked . 😢😢😢😢😢🙏
I remeber hearing that he did that very soon after it happened, it's burnt into my memory, but I did grow up in Puyallup so it happen very close by to where I was raised. (I was 12 at the time)
I live here in Utah--specifically Salt Lake City (about 10 min from West Valley), and when this happened, it completely shook all of northern Utah. You never think things like this happen in your hometown. My heart breaks for Susan and her children. Amazing video as always Kendall!
the fact that Joshua took his children's life because "he couldn't live without them" is beyond selfish I have no words. They both had lives to live and the fact that he saw past that gives me enough proof that he definitely had something to do with Susan's disappearance.
Murder suicides make me the angriest of anything in the world. You're going to be dead. It doesn't matter if you don't have your kids or wife or whatever, you'll be dead. It's the most selfish thing in the entire world. These people see their kids or spouse as an extention of themselves, they don't see them as individuals and it makes me so mad.
TRUTH! Murder suicide is THE most selfish, cruel and horrendous "solution" imaginable, IMHO. It takes an almost unimaginable level of narcissism to think that just because YOU are suffering and want to end things, that somehow that gives you the right to make that decision for anyone else...especially kids!
@@saldebrowde7823 Exactly! That's what I was trying to say in my reply- they see others as mere extensions of themselves, not as separate individuals who might actually want to live their own lives! The level of selfishness makes me SO enraged!
Right?! I must admit- when I was a much younger parent, I once thought it would be fun to take my kids on a spontaneous camping trip to my parent's property in the nearby mountains. The weather was fine when we left, but by the time we were trying to set up the tent the wind was so crazy that the tent practically blew away! And then, the pouring rain started... I learned that day that "spontaneous camping trips" with kids are NOT a good idea!! (Luckily for us, my parents house was so close that we bundled what was left of the tent into their garage, made a "tent" out of sheets in their spare bedroom, hung up a lantern, and had a make-believe "camping trip" in the nice, warm, dry guest room!)
Kids - * Draws a picture of his dead mom* US Court System- “ Those kids will visit their father till we figure out how we can legally get them back to HIM” 🤔
I live in Utah and watched this tragic story unfold in real time, truly heartbreaking. While she was alive it seems that she was living a nightmare, ( one most can't even fathom ) I'm sure those sweet boys witnessed a lot more than we can ever imagine. This story destroyed so many lives... how can one man cause such destruction! Its on another level, his own wife and children. Stories like this remind us all that true evil exists. Damn this case is so tragic, thank you for covering it!
I'm a Utahn also, and I followed this story so closely! And it was extremely extremely frustrating to see plain as day that Josh Powell killed his wife. when the news broke about what their evil father did to those sweet little boys,I remember just breaking down in tears, so disturbing that a parent can even fathom to do such horrors to their children.
Yes I live in Salt Lake City and oh my god right! I was young but I remember what the day was like when he burned the house 🤕 god he fucking killed her and his sons. I’m still disgusted
All that money cannot replace their daughter and grandkids. They cant make a new child and get new grandkids in their lifetimes. This case is such garbage, there was no justice for anyone, guilty ones took the easy way out, and left family broken and watchers enraged. What a complete failure of a system.
How was this man EVER allowed near his children again?!?! They had their entire lives, with grandparents who loved them, ahead of them! Now 3 people are gone due to 1 sick, twisted, evil mans selfishness! This makes my heart hurt 💔
This is one of the most disturbing cases I’ve heard of in a long time. And that effing 911 operator should have dispatched someone immediately if she is telling them that she thinks the kids lives are in danger. Love your videos! Found this channel about a month ago and have been addicted since. And love how in some you bring light to the LGBT community! 😊😘
First question, why didn’t they check the carpet to see if there was any blood, second, why didn’t anyone see what was going on when his sister called that she was worried about him... if police went to his house to check on him this could’ve been prevented because it was probably obvious that he was planning to burn down the house if you just went inside and checked it out
You can literally tell clear as day that he did it.. hes talking real slow and using filler words such as " UM " & " WELL " alot because he has to think about what he wants to say so he doesn't get caught.!!
This entire situation has pissed me off more than any other video you have done. The fact the dispatchers didn't treat this as an emergency. They just brushed this off.. i can't believe it. If this would've been treated correctly and had dispatched officers immediately the kids could still be alive. That's what angers me the most. This entire story is so messed up. My heart aches for the kids and Susan, not to mention Susan's parents.
I had a feeling her husband was capable of evil things just by seeing and hearing him on those interviews. He seemed very disconnected and looked like he was trying to lie. I hope he rots in hell. I feel so bad for that social worker and I feel like the outcome could of been more positive if the 911 dispatcher sent help quicker and wasn't such an ass.
We learn about this case in social work classes. You NEVER let the kids in front of you. You are ALWAYS the first in a room. This is common practice. She should have NEVER let those kids in that house before her.
When she said it happened all the time made me pissed. Never should’ve been allowed to begin with!! I don’t care if it’s their father, HE IS A MURDER SUSPECT.
How are you suppose to get the 2 boys excited to see their dad to not run in front of you?? I’m not trying to say you’re wrong you’re absolutely right. I’m not trying to argue I’m genuinely curious. I don’t think she was at fault the boys ran in front of her are you suppose to put them on a leash? I just want to know how it could be prevented without making the kids and parents upset. It breaks my heart that she couldn’t stop it she tried her best.
Even as just a regular ol' nanny, I was thinking the exact same thing before even hearing how quickly the situation escalated, or hearing that "My kids" don't answer doors without me, "my kids" do NOT get out of the car before me, "my kids" don't go running in any doors before/without me, "my kids" don't even play on playground equipment before I check it out or test it with my own body, "my kids" don't leave my sight... I cannot even imagine allowing them to run off without me, much less not LEADING the 911 call by stating our physical address. That part of this whole story honestly made me just about the most angry of any of it. I really can't imagine.
One of my biggest questions is when the sister called because of the suicide voicemail/letter...why weren’t the cops sent out there? They could have been sent for a wellness check or something like that, they would have either been there before the boys got there or at least close to the house before it ended the way it did.
Agree!! I could not believe the attitude, disgusting!! I hope something was done about it.
Lol I hope he was fired.
Horrible work.
hey dispatcher, you need to do a series, we need to know more about what you guys experience every day
@@nicholasc.5944 I think that is an awesome idea.
You can literally hear the social workers voice loses all hope when she realizes the kids are probably going to die after the dispatcher tells her they need to assist life threatening emergencies first.
Aren’t 911 dispatchers supposed to treat every call as life threatening?
They are.
yeah that's what i thought, where i live even if you accidentally call and hang up right away the cops will still show up almost immediately
They literally never do though
Ex dispatcher here. Calls are put through EMD to prioritize the emergency. Not all calls are treated as life threatening.
But the smell of gas like that, is a big deal.
“I smell gasoline and a child is crying.” “Yeah that’s not an emergency.”
not the right sort of crying
There are some dispatchers who sound like you're inconveniencing them lol
It's so maddening to hear! Especially because one of my longtime BFFs is a dispatcher, and she prides herself so much on always being of service to the people who call. I was naive enough before heading this to assume most dispatchers were like her...but sadly, apparently not.
That first 911 call made me FURIOUS!! Ugh this case is so disheartening.
Selfish bastard deserves to rot and the 911 caller deserves prison.
Heartbreaking 😢
Why are so many dispatchers so stupid? And rude!
I can't believe they let the kids have visitation with the dad while the dad was a suspect.. are you kidding me
Especially visitation at his private residence
Literally what I said let alone no disrespect to the woman but with someone who doesn't seem like she would've been able to fight or defend the kids if he decided to get bold and do something whilst she was there
Yeah and even visitation at his private residence should have been with someone properly trained to be able to control, fight and physically protect those kids. What if he tried to attack the lady too? Im sure she wouldn’t be trained to fight him. I reckon a policeman should have been there during those visitations
Most of that system doesn't actually care. It's really corrupt.
Eventually"
"Has he threatened to kill the kids before?" "No." "Emergency services have to respond to life threatening cases first."
As if it's normal for people to get explicit warnings on previous occasions before they're killed. The first is often a moment before they die.
i hope he was fired
Right? The kids are crying, she smells gasoline, and he is only allowed to see his kids on supervised visits (which typically doesn't just happen for no reason).
But 911 dispatcher doesn't see how it's a life threatening case. I hope he faced some kind of repercussions for his negligence.
😭😭😤😤😠 right!!? 😥

@@Spayroe the fact that they didn't even fire him..

Heather Bailey him?! What about the dumbass lady who didn't know the freaking address?! Lol not even the cross streets?! I mean come on lady!
That's Washington for you
Kimberrsworld in an urgent situation I can certainly see her drawing a blank; remember it's not a house she lives at, and just because she may visit the home, it doesn't mean she'd know the address. So sad.

Kids see things adults don’t they are honest, and they can change your perspective on things

She seems so so miserable in that video where she’s showing her stuff :(
Alyssa Bowen she sounds depressed
N what's with her snapping at her son Charlie. Like legit snapped at him and told him to be quiet. I'm sure shes stressed so its gotta be rugged
I feel so sad for the social worker too. She was trying to protect those boys and was ignored by the 911 dispatcher.

As soon as I heard the dad sold his kids stuff, I knew what was about to happen and my stomach dropped. Oh my God, how awful :(
I’m so angry at the fact that the dispatcher said “they have to respond to life threatening situations” LIKE THAT IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION!!! WTH, this case is mind blowing and so sad. Those kids shouldn’t have died like that. And the case should’ve been handle SO differently
He needs to be brought to justice. The 911 caller deserves to be held accountable or atleast struck off.

Watching this in 2020, I had to check up on the case and see how the lawsuit went for Susan's Parents. They were awarded $98 million dollars. No amount of money will bring back their grandsons and daughter, or make up for how they were failed, but I am glad they won.

Joanna Guerriero my thoughts exactly.
Also she stated the smell of gas. Which should of brought up a red flag
And the operator had to have her explain the situation twice.

Complete mf bullshit!! Them babies are gone because of that disgusting nasty dude who works for dispatch
Kytteh Wytchwood ughh ikrrr like why would a little kid lie about that
Something similar happened with me and my brother.
"Has he hurt the children before?" Um no dude but theres a first time for everything!!! God the dispatcher pissed me off.
No but he murdered their mother!
TheJaydemarie he probably was an offender of some sort too, sadly
She smelled gasoline! What the hell else could that mean but BAD NEWS? Smh.
At that point i would have been like "NO BUT HE'S A SUSPECT IN HIS WIFES DISAPPEARANCE AND I SMELL GASOLINE!!!!!!"
Not to be a fan girl but you liked my comment and I'm currently crying, love ya kendall😭❤
The kid’s picture should have been taken more seriously when it was drawn!
And at that point they were at the age where what they say wouldn't/should be l a ughed off like they were possibly 9 and 7 so I mean plus I'm sorry but if I suspect my daughter's husband killed her and he has sexual issues if they at any point are resistant to see said person they're not going fine me 🖕
What does your comment even mean Sadie? What are you talking about? How about using English and grammar? (It makes all the difference!!)
@@claire040776 you're trying to be rude for no reason. @@sadiedixson6116 I felt the same way from your first comment. 2nd was better!
One of the most infuriating cases. Why weren't Susan's parents granted full custody rather than placing the children in foster care???
Gloria Moore oh my god glad you and your husband are okay :)
@@alexfry2292 she waited to call 911?she did/tried to break in?
Yeah, this could have probably been the least complicated murder case possible if everyone actually did their goddamn jobs.

The Sheriff was right. Calling this whole mess a tragedy is sugarcoating it. This is a murder. Plain and simple.

Also the feelings you feel as an adult and child from not being wanted. It's a life time of mental illness.

Same for me pro choice.

Third eye Brunette the fact that he was planning on ending his life anyways.. he should’ve left the boys out of it. That was the most selfish, devastating, frustrating things to have ever happen. Those poor boys.
This is why it's so important that children grow up in a loving and caring environment.

Did she?
She was chucked in the deep end. Whoever decided home visits were ok should apologize to her.
The 911 operators name is David Lovrak. Absolutely cannot believe someone could be so careless in his line of work.
👏👏

@@saldebrowde7823 Exactly! That's what I was trying to say in my reply- they see others as mere extensions of themselves, not as separate individuals who might actually want to live their own lives! The level of selfishness makes me SO enraged!
If he can’t live without them he should’ve just died without them. Coward.
Whenever wives disappear and husbands take their kids on “spontaneous camping trips” it’s bad news
Kids - * Draws a picture of his dead mom*
US Court System- “ Those kids will visit their father till we figure out how we can legally get them back to HIM”
🤔
The court decided to award the grandparents 98 million dollars for negligence on July 17, 2020. The case is now closed.
Did they ever find the mom?
I heard the judge decided to reduce the payout to 32M
It doesn't replace the lives lost
All that money cannot replace their daughter and grandkids. They cant make a new child and get new grandkids in their lifetimes. This case is such garbage, there was no justice for anyone, guilty ones took the easy way out, and left family broken and watchers enraged. What a complete failure of a system.
Kind of sucks because the kids can’t even enjoy the money. That makes it kind of pointless.. 🤦🏾♀️
How was this man EVER allowed near his children again?!?! They had their entire lives, with grandparents who loved them, ahead of them! Now 3 people are gone due to 1 sick, twisted, evil mans selfishness! This makes my heart hurt 💔
Right. All because the dumbass felt like he couldn't "live without them."
Rachel Donald idk man they were clearly already abused and theyd totally end up mentally fucked if they survived...... sad
Bitter sweet, the children are with their Mother. Bless the parents who have to face this horror. My prayers are with you.
Steven Powell deserves to be in prison just for writing that song...
Rachel D Mormons are fucking insane. Steven Powell’s behavior is basically considered “normal” by Utah Mormon standards.
SarahSmiles71 he was raised Mormon, which is how he got so fucking weird.
I know I was shook when researching it.... just terrible
Kendall Rae P.S. bronzer on point !
Ryan MacDonald very well said 😘🏳️🌈
First question, why didn’t they check the carpet to see if there was any blood, second, why didn’t anyone see what was going on when his sister called that she was worried about him... if police went to his house to check on him this could’ve been prevented because it was probably obvious that he was planning to burn down the house if you just went inside and checked it out
As disturbing as it all was leading up to what he did to his children, I still was not expecting to hear he attacked them with a hatchet 🤦🏼♀️
And to be more worried about wanting to move the car out of the driveway than trying to break in, I just... I cannot. There are no words.
Nope, he would have killed her too if she went in. It's not her fault at all.
One of my biggest questions is when the sister called because of the suicide voicemail/letter...why weren’t the cops sent out there?
They could have been sent for a wellness check or something like that, they would have either been there before the boys got there or at least close to the house before it ended the way it did.
So true
