      Some of that prickly gold can be hard to hear with the best detectors Jeff...just that I haven't come across a bit weighing a gram that was invisible. Hope you're having heaps of luck over your way mate. Cheers Wal.

    small coils are more sensitive albeit don't go as deep ! some VLFs like the Garrett AT Gold and the Fisher Gold bug will pick up tiny pickers - plus i think some larger coils field of depth is more dead center and won't get tiny nuggets unless it is also dead center - i know gold chains are not easily detected if at all because of the gaps between and in the links which falls into liz's theory of that nugget .

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому

      Thanks for watching jconabike. There is many VLF's and also machines like the sdc2300 and gpz 7000 that will pick that piece up...the point was to show that a GPX5000 can't see this particular config even though I've picked up many pieces under point one of a gram with a sadie coil on the 5000. Take care...Wal.

    Another great Video. I think thats why the Z has been so successful - it picks up those reefy bits that the GPX doesnt easily see.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому

      Thanks for watching Pat. I ran the "Z" over this particular piece and it got it, but only at measured 2cm.....the 2300 got it much clearer at 3.5cm but seeing the piece was in a crevice 10cm deep none of the machines would have picked this bit up. At a weight of close to a gram I found this extremely unusual. Take care out there...Wal.

    It's hard to believe that a piece that size cannot be detected, but I have had a simular experience and must admit it took many alterations of my 5000s settings before I gave in and accepted it :-) I am glad its a rare occurrence.
    Love your videos, keep them coming

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому +1

      Doesn't happen at pieces that size very often Old Fella but this was an unusually pitted piece intertwined by thin sheets of ironstone. I ran the SDC2300 over it and got a very repeatable signal but only at 3.5 cm. So it would still have not picked it up from the 10cm deep crevice it was in. The "Z" got a warbly signal at about 2cm but only just enough to pull you up if it was 2cm deep. The Sadie picked it up but only scraping it on the coil itself, and that was in fine gold timing with the settings pushed to the point you could not run it comfortably. Good luck out there mate....Wal.

    • @oldfella4821
      @oldfella4821 7 років тому

      I'm very surprised about the Z's result, I thought that it would have nailed it. Makes me wonder how much gold we are missing like that, at least we are leaving something for future technology to find :-)
      Cheers

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому

      "Z" really surprised me too mate as I thought it would see it about the same as the 2300. Just goes to show that there is not just one machine out there that does it all.

      Same thing happened to me once with a 4500 on a 2 gram bit and was flat. Could only hear it from about 2 inches with 8 inch mono.

  • @diggingwithphasetech
    @diggingwithphasetech 7 років тому

    Fine Gold with a small mono is your best chance on that stuff with a GPX, but I've found bits like that with the GPZ that the GPX just sees very close to the coil. Pity that crevice wasn't 3m long hey

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому +1

      If that crevice was 3m long Nenad I recon the GPX would have blanked out. Some bits of the same type of gold have gone better than 50 grams from here.

      Ran the 2300 over it and got a repeatable signal at 3.5 cm...this bit came out of a crevice 10cm deep so it still would have not detected it. "Z" was only 2cm on this piece. Object of the vid was to show a GPX can't hear it. A Good VLF would have easily picked it up as well. Take care...Wal.

  • @amym.1358
    @amym.1358 7 років тому

    I am completely shocked. I never would have expected that on such a large piece of gold, even if it was spongy. Have you tried going back to factory default settings and then setting it back up again with good settings and ground balancing? I have had my GPX5000 act funny on other minerals if I custom tune it (ie Cobalt), but never silver or gold.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching Amy. I have been running Minelabs since the 2100's first came out and have run the 5000 since its introduction. I train prospectors on how to set up the GPX series, and have had a lot of experience with these pulse induction machines, picking up pieces as small as point 05 of a gram with Sadie coils tweaked to maximum sensitivity. Picked up tens of thousands of small nuggets over the years, but every now and then you will come across a wiry piece of gold, usually a specie, or a very pitted piece of gold, that the 5000 has no chance of picking up....no matter what settings you choose. The SDC and the "Z" will pick up more of this porous gold, but believe me that factory settings will not be of any benefit to you in picking up gold such as this piece. Good luck out there on the fields....Wal.

    small coil would see it easy...but i guess Wal doesn't need a small coil cos Liz will find it 1st

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching m3. I intend to run a Sadie over it this weekend but I'm not overly confident as I've tested the new Evo coils over many hundreds of small similar nuggets and the Evo still picks up 99% of what the Sadie does once they are unearthed. I have several very small pitted pieces under .3 of a gram that Sadie cannot see, and that is with the settings boosted to the max in sensitive extra.

    • @m3sca1
      @m3sca1 7 років тому +1

      Wal nLiz i got a small nugget finder with litz wire and on my modded sd2100 it can see a 0.2 gram picker in air...pretty sure it would have pinged on that in deep mode...always happy to watch your videos guys!

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому +1

      The 5000 will pick up a .2 at over 8 inches m3sca. The test nugget i used in the this vid is .2 and I've pinned many pickers down to .07 with a Sadie. The determining factor is the amount of pitting in the gold and if there is enough continuity to form a reasonable surface area or density. I've detected tens of thousands of nuggets in my days and seen several that can't be detected with a GPX but never one of this size.

    • @m3sca1
      @m3sca1 7 років тому +2

    Nice vid Wal & Liz! Did the SDC 2300 signal with it? I was out today with my SDC 2300 & detected a strange hotrock about 400mm deep. Its about the size of a basketball & really heavy. The rare earth magnet on my pick didnt stick to it like other hot rocks have. I tried the pinpointer on it & it would slow chirp in certain parts of the rock & scream in others. Do you reckon it's worth splitting it & having a look? I left it where I found it as I had quite a hike out with the gear I had. It was a good thing I left it as I tripped & fell into a blackberry bush lined old timers trench on my way out! Im scratched up a bit but otherwise ok! lol Cheers, Pete

    bless ya for taking us along on your adventures! as much as i'd like to be in Australia where i've never been, searching and learning, i am in Maine, US., where winter snow has closed in. Someday by the grace of God I would dearly love to live in the outdoors exploring for the rest of my life, the mines and such are crowded here and Australia looks like there's enough room to breathe. I dream of Australia, and somehow, I will find a way to afford to go.. even though all i have is my Social Security. Thank you both.,

    That detector should of picked that up.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  7 років тому

      For that size gold it certainly should have Bee. But sometimes the molecules are joined with enough gaps to let most of the transmit signal run through it without enough reflection for the receive signal to get back to the detector. This happens on only very rare cofigs of gold, and generally on only much smaller pieces than the one I had trouble with. Take care...Wal.
