    Lots of good advice there, thanks Wal and Liz. We met a foreign bloke way out in the bush in WA. He had flown into Perth, bought a $6000 4WD from a dealer and set off for places unknown in an untried and unchecked car. We discovered that he did not even know how to change a flat tyre! No one knew where he was, including himself, and no one would have missed him had he not returned. He did have a nice haul of gold, but he could have died for it! You CANNOT overprepare for outback Oz, but many just take off without much thought. As you said, you can go for months and not see a soul, it has happened to us too. A fellow I know used to say, "You can't educate mugs!" and I think that he may be right. Good on ya Wal and Liz and thanks again.

      Walter Kerr Thanks for the comment Walter and totally agree that some who chase gold in the remoteness of the WA Goldfields are taking a very big risk. It doesn't take much of an error to get yourself into a life threatening situation, and several have perished through either complacency or being ill prepared. Even experienced and seasoned prospectors can run into bad luck, let alone the newcomers who are over there on their first ever adventure. Hopefully the two missing over there at the moment get found safely. Take care and all the best...Wal.

      Willo's Australian coin, relic and gold detecting Thanks for the comment Ian. Just hope that the vid goes in some way to bring attention to what can go wrong if ill prepared. Too many prospectors just go out there and "Wing It", so to speak, thinking nothing will ever go wrong. When it does go wrong in isolated regions it quite often can have dire consequences. Take care and hope the gold is being kind to you. Cheers Wal.

    Sure would love to go prospecting with you all. I am from the American Pacific Northwest and live near several gold bearing streams and rivers, that have sections designated as public panning areas, no claims allowed. I enjoy going out and doing a few pans, really enjoy it, when I do find some gold, even if it is just a few flakes. I cannot wait until you put some new adventures up, think I have watched all of your videos.

    Preparation is always key. It's better to be over-prepared and not need it. I know all about this as I have recently delved into the world of mining old caves and tunnels. I must say, I still prefer to be above ground! Best of luck to you guys.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  9 років тому +1

      Eric Real Deal Deleel Agree with you Eric, and it's always better to be prepared with a backup plan if venturing to isolated locations...especially where lack of water is an issue. Still some good gold left in tunnels, and reparation is even more paramount when exploring them, as gas and cave-ins need serious consideration. Take care in there mate, and hope some seams show themselves for you. Cheers Wal.

    Good Video Wal And Liz,
    If you remember there was 2 blokes who died last year after braking down in QLD. Died within 20km of their vehicle. It is sad but true that even people familiar with outback travel get into deep trouble quickly.
    Hope they find the couple in WA. Their dog would not have made its way back to the park if they were okay.

      Coyote Rider Thanks for the comment CR and I'm with you in hoping the missing couple in WA at the moment are found safe. The outback can very easily catch you off guard and a simple mistake could cost you your life. Just hope everybody venturing out there takes the time to plan their adventure with sufficient emphasis on what can easily go wrong. Take care out there CR. Cheers Wal.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  8 років тому +1

      +Le Kre ...Thanks for watching and glad you found the vid informative. We rarely see any snakes and one needs to go out of ones way to actively seek them out if wanting to see one. Many people have the wrong ideas of what is dangerous in the outback and in isolated locations, believing snakes, scorpions, spiders wild animals etc are what poses the dangers. The reality is none of these pose serious problems, and the real danger is being ill prepared with necessities such as water, food, getting lost, and under estimating mother nature. Preparation is the big key to an enjoyable trip into the wilderness. Take care...Wal.

I prospected for years in remote areas of the Mojave desert.Nothing as this however it doesn't take much to get lost or have things go bad on ya .I spent a whole day trying to get out of a canyon /gully/wash ,moved about 20 yards in four hours. It's better when you make a fire in an area like that to build small stone wall around the fire to prevent the wind blowing sparks around. Leaving holes for air of course, but really don't want to have a fire.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  9 років тому +1

      We have big fuzzy bears and cougars which are a bit more direct hazards here. :o) I use my quadcopter to check areas out first. The Fraser river has claimed many gold panners here over the last 250 years. You have some great ground there distant but a little less mountain forestry to deal with LOL! Search up Gold trails and ghost towns for our BC gold history. Cheers! just ordered an AT gold for coming low river season.

    Very well done IMO. Entertaining yet informative. Here in Arizona, we are not nearly as remote, but still plenty of room between people. We have about 250 illegal immigrants die every year in this sector from exposure, etc. due to the remoteness and the lack of humanity in the smugglers. They will happily lead people to their deaths for a profit.
    Keep up the good videos.

      robert betts Thanks for the comment Robert. Camping in a tent is very safe over here and you wouldn't have any problems spending a season under canvas at all. Just don't venture long distances from your camp without a hand held GPS as it is very easy to get lost. Take care...Wal.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  9 років тому +1

      pappawheely Got a young couple missing as we speak in WA. Their camp has been found but not the young chap and his wife. very easy to get lost out there and once lost it never end well. This area is mainly large stations. Prospecting is permitted with prospecting license throughout the whole state. Take care out there...Wal.

    • @pappawheely
      @pappawheely 9 років тому

      Wal nLiz thank you the prospecting licence? can you explain a little more? price and limitations rules, no biggi , just curious love to you guys and good luck that was a good haul you got there...

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  9 років тому

      pappawheely In Western Australia you need a Miners right which is very cheap at around $25 and lasts for a lifetime....once only purchase. There are quite a few rules as to where you can prospect and that can be searched on the WA 10 graph mines department site. Cheers Wal.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  9 років тому

      pappawheely A lot of the land is crown land owned by the government and anyone can prospect on this. There are also some very large stations, especially in WA and permission is quite readily obtained for access to these lands. The main restrictions are on existing mining claims and these need specific permission to gain access. All the best...Wal.

    A video on safety tips, yet you travel with someone that can not drive competently and you ride a bike with no helmet over rough terrain. What happens if you break yours legs or get bitten buy a mulga snake? Happy hunting and be safe out there...

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  9 років тому

      Prospector Pete Thanks for watching Pete. The temperature in this area is close to 40 degrees and the terrain is such that you can best do only a few km. an hour and at this speed and temperature, wearing a helmet will give me more chance of heat exhaustion and hence accident prone than not using a helmet. I always have a helmet for areas that require more speed. As far as Liz being incompetent as a driver, she is fully licensed and has been for a very long time. If you watch the video carefully, you will have noticed reference being made to her not driving in dangerous situations. It is far better to have two drivers in remote regions than just a single driver. But thanks for your concerns and hope you stay safe out there in the paddock. Cheers, Wal

    Dear Liz, a very sober video. I will surely keep it in mind when the opportunity arise. But I do not feel I can watch your video in comfort when you take my Lord`s Name in vain. Probably you do not mean harm, but it is hurt full to me. It is unnessicary, ther are other ways you can express your joy. Harry van Niekerk.

    • @WalnLiz
      @WalnLiz  9 років тому +2

      Harry van Niekerk We do not feel we take the lords name in vain and are in fact Christians ourselves. This is unfortunately the 21st century and praising the lord for what we find can be misinterpreted by some with a different viewpoint to ourselves, and as such are entitled to their own religious interpretation which best suits them. We live as Christians, and feel the context of our expressions is not offensive to the lord. Sorry if you find offense, and your choice to watch must be made from your own personal viewpoint. Take care....Wal.
