Why are there still pet stains on my carpet after cleaning? Black light detection!

  • I did a job where the customer had their own black light. When I got there they turned off the lights and showed me where all the urine stains were along the wall and throughout the house. The carpet appeared clean and there was only a moderate odor. After doing all the steps according to the Institute inspection carpet cleaning restoration, the order was gone and all that was left was for the carpet to dry. I was called back because the black light was showing some additional urine stains. Here’s a great video of how to explain how you’re in a fix carpet and that sometimes all of the elements that make up your own or broken down to remove the odor that due to the loss of red dye in blue dye from the acidic and alkaline urine it leaves only a yellow color which can be detected only with the black light. Basically what you have is no urine just the color loss which is similar to the stamp they put on your hand at an amusement park which you cannot see until you put the black light on it. Or similar to if you go to a nightclub and get your hand stamped or those magic invisible pens. So there’s nothing to be nervous about there’s no bacteria in the carpet in the year and has been removed. Sometimes during for trying evaporator process some of the residual urine that may have been deeper in the pad could surface and appear on the carpet when it is dry. This is easily resolved I just bring a topical enzyme on it and let it sit for 8 to 10 hours. No need to rent it will obliterate any urine salts on the surface. Thanks for watching

We use black lights to find pet urine as well. I have had to go back a few times and explain why some spots still glow. Thanks for the "Black Light Customer Info" this will help explain in the future. Great video.

I always tell customers "look, if something has been in the carpet long enough at some point it will permanently discolor the fabric and theres no way to get it out. Im going to make sure its clean and I guarantee you its going to look a heck of a lot better when im finished but I cant guarantee each stain is coming out completely." There is nothing more important on the job than managing expectations.

Hi i am in the process of moving to a new rental property and the real estate claims they had everything cleaned including the carpets washed professionally! Man alive!!! I went into the house on Friday to move some of my tools etc. The place stinks so bad its basically uninhabitable!! I vacuumed the carpets and using the cordless dewalt vacuum cleaner. The amount of dust and dirt was ridiculous. Im pulling out my hair as ive paid the bond and 2 weeks rent! All up 3950.00 dollars in Australia. Our lease is for 1 year and is it possible to get rid of the smell just long enough until the lease runs out? Any reply appreciated! Cheers from Australia subbed and liked ❤.

Should work on beds. Here’s some info for ya. Should a client view cleaned carpet under UV illumination and they see a glow, how might you explain to them how the urine can be gone but the glow is still present? Consider an explanation such as this - "Urine contains proteins that stain carpetlike an invisible dye that can only be seen under ultraviolet (UV) light. We can completely flush out all the contamination but at least a small amount of protein almost always remains and it only takes a very small amount to create fluorescence. However, it is no longer urine in any way, shape, or form. It is merely an element that at one time was joined with many other elements to form urine. It is as harmless as the invisible ink (the stuff that glows under a black light) used to stamp hands at amusement parks and nightclubs.”
      DETAILS OF URINE
      The Make-up of Urine
Urine leaves the body (either animal or human) as a mild acid with a pH that is typically between 5 and 7. Until urine is leaving the animal, it is sterile containing no harmful bacteria, pathogens or microorganisms unless the animal has a urinary or bladder infection.
The principle ingredient in urine (from mammals) is uric acid. Urine also contains urochrome (yellow pigment), fatty acids and cholesterol (lipids), urea and other components. The exact make-up of urine will vary depending on the animal’s diet, health and other factors.
The urine begins to change immediately upon leaving the body. The urine comes in contact with bacteria in the end of the urethra and on the animal’s skin along with microorganisms in the carpet and elsewhere in the environment. The warm and acid conditions offer a perfect breeding ground for bacteria which begin to flourish.
With the aid of bacteria, uric acid begins to be broken down into free ammonia and carbon dioxide. The ammonia is highly alkaline (ph 11+). In a matter of an hour or so, what was slightly acidic or near neutral has become strongly alkaline deposit. This strong concentrated alkaline can damage dyes and create a permanent color loss. Blue and then red color is the most easily removed. Yellow may be the only color that remains. What appears to be a urine stain may actually be color loss that can not be corrected by cleaning.
Some have suggested that a fresh urine spot should be treated with white vinegar to neutralize and flush the urine from the carpet. This is NOT what should be done. Vinegar is an acid. You can not neutralize an acid with an acid.

You gotta get an enzyme cleaner to eat all the urine crystals up, they are not water salable that’s why it’s still there you gotta use the proper chemicals

The smell and stains are there that is why they are detected. The enzyme is bacteria. The cleaners need enzyme removal as it is bacteria. Once a stain is there it never goes away.

Yes in some cases you are correct. However the uv reflection is sometimes permanent even after complete elimination of the source problems. It’s just like the stamp they put on your hand to enter Disney Land or a club.

The urine glows under a uv light because it contains phosphorous. You can treat the odor and completely remove the urine, but your process doesn’t remove the phosphorous. Any color loss resulting from urine is due to the pH, not from the phosphorous. You can remove the phosphorous but since it leaves no odor nor is it visible under normal lighting, there really is no point. Removing the phosphorous adds nothing to the quality of the clean.
