For anyone that don't know Robert is a cool dude that loves talking Turbos and making power. He will answer calls and help anyone. FP are good turbos that he stands behind.
@@PATuners that's awesome dude it will rip. My DSM days are long gone lol I loved those cars but I couldn't handle the breakdowns. I moved on to GM v6sc, then V8 stuff and now V8 turbo stuff. I've watched your stuff before, I'm pretty sure your not very far from me.
Your going in the right direction with these podcasts, more knowledgeable people instead of the people that just pay money to get there car built and know what the shop tells them.
Men like this are bastions of knowledge. They can't be replaced. We can only be humbled by their willingness to educate the next generation. Thanks for everything you bring to the industry we all love.
Dude, not gonna lie, gonna have to rewatch this with a pen and notepad. The amount of knowledge this guy is sharing is unbelievable. My mind ain't advanced enough to take it in on the first go.
Robert is amazing. I will continue to support Xona for all my builds. Hands down one of the best turbo companies out there. Thank you for having him on your channel, the knowledge this man has shows, he loves what he does and the willingness to help says everything about him and his company.
Right around the 37 minute mark, my already high respect level went up. Realizing that turbos and cars are just "things" and that people matter more. Good stuff!
I’ve run a couple different FP turbos on my DSM and had my issues and gotten the pleasure to talk to Robert on the phone and he’s an awesome dude. He really does try to help the customer as much as you are willing to let him.
I like this guy. He speaks the language of someone you can trust; always a good thing when it comes to spending a fair stack of money on something. Thanks for the podcast.
This was awesome. Always learn something new every time Robert does some talking! I've got about a dozen Forced Peformance/Xona Rotor turbos and love them all. Great products and always great support.
Robert young is a legend ! He cares about his customers and believes in the grassroots racer/backyard mechanic. If something goes wrong or you have a question you can actually talk to the man. That’s not something that’s necessarily found at other companies anymore. I love my hta68 on my 4g63 swapped 74 Vega wagon. Thanks Robert and the team at FP!
THIS is the best collab you’ve done so far. Xona rotor is ahead of the game. Good to see them on here. Next turbo is going to be a xona rotor as opposed to a Garrett.
I’ve known Robert since the Club DSM days, and he sponsored our championship-winning ProSolo Street Modified Talon building turbos for us. He has always been a solid cat and I cannot say enough good things about him. Big 28 FTW! (Literally!)
This guys personality and attitude, and the fact one of his salesmen was willing to talk to me on the phone for 40 minutes, it’s the exact and primary reason I just bought two HD8088’s. I don’t think I will ever buy a turbo from anyone else from now on. Guy is spot on with my personality, and knowledge. I’m all ears!
Robert is one of the smartest minds in motorsport. His podcast, with Matt Happel on the Sloppy Mechanics Radio Show, made me a believer in his company, and mission. Good job Tukes.
I’ve bought FP parts for my Evo 9. Great to see the face behind that! Looks like a solid knowledgeable guy! Thanks for what you have done for the platform!
Those Xona Rotor turbos are a work of art. Currently have a 9569s on standby ready to put in. Opening the box and just looking at it you can see every little detail was well thought out and designed to put in work.
I work for Greg "TiAl" in Michigan and Greg is the same way his passion for turbos is like no other. I could pick his brain every day and still not hold a light to his expertise and knowledge!!
Robert is awesome! He talked to me about my next evo turbo for about 5-10minutes back in the day (ended up being a FPRed) and I was so surprised to be talking to the owner, but he's just cool like that. He's so awesome, Mitsubishi consulted him on making a special turbo for the (JDM) EvoX FE (that's a cool story too). Bottom line, the man puts 10 pounds of sh@t in a 5 pound bag, his turbos are no joke and your car should have one! (If ya don't know, just give him a call).
Another great podcast! Definitely plan on supporting Robert and Xona turbos on my Audi 20V AAN 5- cyl. build. If it costs a bit more so be it this guy will take the time to talk to you.
Sounds like Robert needs to jump into Diesel truck turbos! We need some of his ideas on our 6.7 Cummins and 6.6 Duramax platforms. We love high pressure ratios and need them to make power. The S400s are great but they don't live long enough when pushed into 4.5 bar and beyond territory. FP was killing it back in my DSM days with the FP Black, and Red. Good to see them still blazing the way.
I love how he was realistic saying that most four-cylinder making 800 wheel horsepower operate about 40 pounds of boost. I made 849 on 42 pounds but I’m definitely looking into switching to xona. I just have some concerns about spending large amounts of money to switch and maybe not get what I’m after. It be extremely difficult to make more power and still keep the same spool.
2012-2015 1g dsm got the car with precision 50 trim, balance shafts went that fall winter 2g piston 1g rods fresh head 272,s fp black 33 psi e85 2900lb awd and it ran with 750gsxr and hurt a lot of v8 feelings ..few years after me and car part ways picked up a galant fp green made 510 mustang 30 psi ..loved ever minute of my Forced performance experience
I’m by far from a car guy but I love cars and just from watching all these street alpha podcast I feel like I can build a a whole motor but in reality I can barely change a tire 🙃😂🤣😂
i wonder if Garret would have had the problem with Chinese knock offs if they didn't send their production over there. Seems like Honeywell had it coming.
Great insightful interview but 2 things: 1) there were plenty of oil cooled only OEM turbos. Saab 99/900 / Merkur XRT4, Nissan/Datsun 280ZX are some examples. 2) you'll prob not get any tight/no shaft play turbos with debris packing it together as it would have started to disintegrate the bearings or shaft in short order. If its binding from coking together, then sure.
God, why didn't this come out 2 years ago when I built my 06STi. +2mm rods/ ferrea valve train/ tomei poncams/aem340pump, ID1300/ and FP Blue... Wanted to rev out to 8k @ autox, but still spool early for off power corners. Flexfuel didn't pan out(piss on Cobb) and the blue is a turd with cams and pump gas. Still made 400 on dynodynamics even staying conservative with timing. The tuner recommended the x500r/ second fuel pump/ and/ Haltech standalone. Translation for non Subaru people: spend an extra 8-10k for +150whp. But that includes flex fuel, and a sweet digital dash.
@@aquapisces24 yea, ID1300s and parallel fuel lines/ there's plenty of 93octane on tap to make power. Didn't even tweak base fuel pressure. Still waiting on ethanol, might just get multiple tunes for when I can get the 🌽 juice from a few towns over.
On the statement referring to the Chinese turbos. I read that the US patent law is limited so after a few years the patents are publicly available, a similar example will be on older Glock pistols whereby there is a flood of copies with no legal consequences. When I stand back and look at the situation, are we moving into an era where long established companies will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat from a R&D perspective as the Chinese copies are priced so competitve to gain market share, the support is not bad, repair kits are available and i honestly think that their strategy might actually work. Food for thought especially when you are competing for price and the new kid on the block is 40% cheaper 😮
Thanks for coming out, we had a great time 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you Sir Robert!!
Robert seems like a great educator and teacher would love learn under him for a couple years

I had an FP3065 on my 2G Eagle Talon back in 2007. FP started with DSM's, I believe.
I still have my 3065

Just think of all the laws against war crimes that the US ignores. Big powers play by their own rules.
Great episode , learned a few things as well. Glad I saw this before ordering a Garrett G35-900……..now I’m dead set on a Garrett G35-900 .83A/R
Or get a Xona ;). If you have a small displacement motor, the g series aero isn’t ideal for the PR needed to make power.
