Also get landed clergy by reforming your religion so you as the King can hold Churches and you have 7 Holdings that you can fully own in that one province.

I just play high learning celibate rulers and rush down absolute crown authority so I can designate my heirs. It takes two generation depending on whether it's innovation boosted or not.
i just play as patition, then i destroy al titles, just keep the main... And i create a 1 county title for every son... Playing with Stewardship make it preaty easy
Declare a holy war to someone, send your son(s) you dont want to that war with minimal support. They usually die or get captured. If they get captured, dont pay the ransom and they should die in captivity eventually
I'd still prefer a smaller province with better environments. Hills and mountains are good defensively, but are terrible for economy. Give me Kiev or Praha with the lower barony count, but multiple farmlands any day.
And of course, now with royal court, having a province with this many mountainous holdings in it is kind of overpowered; good thing they nerfed it, i guess

Add feudal elective to it (make sure no one else holds any counties in it) as well as form the kingdom of Sardinia (forgot the full name) and you'll always inherit the entire duchy's counties. Just remember to actually vote, ofc
I am playing a Viking play through, you can have less sons by killing them in battle, disinherit before death, and I also rotate 3 duchies, by giving 1 to my heir when they are young and they will automatically get the duchy with capital, then give the 3rd to his heir, rotating between.

Cagliari is the best province. Holding sub holdings reduces the number of building slots to 3. You get a better ROI building a city over a castle. There are tons of ways to control your inheritance that holding the duchy of Sardinia and occasionally having to revoke titles from your sibling vessels then what ever. It’s not that difficult. And the mine means mercs on mercs.
This doesn't work anymore, Zahumlje has been divided and now it have 5 slots and the new county, zelengora, have 3, giving a total of 8 slots, including the capital castle, so basically they are 2 normal counties now
I forget the name but there is a place in Manding with a decent amount of building slots and a mine that you can get fully leveled up to 14 gold per month
Its thick with 8 but its duchy is tiny and its not even the duchy capital so u can't have the duchy building on top of all that its freaking mountains personally I think paris is the best to play tall a good duchy with lot of plains

If you learn to properly manage it, its quite easy to keep your stuff. Theres many ways to resolve your succession. In early game, best way to do it is to conquer new land for your other children to inherit, give it to them and you are just fine or... you could always send your unwanted sons to suicide mission in wars! I personally like to keep my kids on the land of the living to generate me more dynasty memebers and renown! On top of that, you have holy orders and monks and what not. Your kids are guaranteed to accept ''taking the vows'' if you ''raise'' them properly. That means, be the guardian yourself and select virtuous traits for them and make them a scholar or knight (depends where you want to send them)!

This means that you can build four tradeports, which will boost your development rate stupid high. On the early start, I easily outpace the rest of the world in development by a wide margin by 950. That's with conquering Madurai and changing the culture first (so about 10 years wasted there). I usually start as the island to the southeast (can't remember the name), but you can easily conquer Madurai, convert the culture and be a culture-head with very high development. The other thing that makes it so good is location. You're in southern India, so there's really only one way for enemies to come at you. If you conquer the two counties north of Madurai, you are defended by rivers on both side, making it easily one of the most defensible areas in the game without sacrificing any economy (Zahumlje is hard to take due to mountains, but that also murders your economy). Madurai is by far the strongest county in CK3.
Start as a Tibetan culture for Himalayan Settlers (development in mountains), then culture shift Afghan for Mountain Homes (more development in mountains), then settle in the most glorious province of all time 😂

Zahumlje wasnt part of Croatia, it was populated by Serbs, and still is, just some of them converted to other nations.
