You know whats really fun about seeing Veruca Salt live? Standing so close to Nina Gordon that if you wanted to turn off her guitar pedals you could... but you cant since your so in awe standing in her shadow...
I'm a big fan of Eight Arms To Hold You! I have it on CD too (and mp3 file). I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about it. Thanks for the heads up on the upcoming vinyl release- I'm adding that to my want list. Cheers!
Hi there! Another 8 Arms fan, yeah!!! The vinyl has been released. I don't think you can get the limited edition gold vinyl anymore, but the regular black vinyl is definitely available! Cheers! ~Hanna
Stumbled on your video and I just have to say I was so excited to hear someone else name "Loneliness is Worse" their favorite on the album. I feel that song is so underappreciated even by the band themselves since I've never found one documented case of them playing it live - and it's the song that made me truly fall in love with Nina's voice and perfect songwriting. She just knows to write hooks and melodies and structure her songs so they build and peak like no one else I've ever heard. "One Last Time" is definitely my favorite Louise song too :)
Hey Nick! So awesome that you also love the same 2 tracks from 8 Arms! Yes, Nina's voice is beauty and perfection on Loneliness is Worse! I just love VS and their harmonies! Did you like Nina's 2 solo albums as well? ~Hanna
I absolutely love her solo albums, especially Bleeding Heart Graffiti which is criminally underrated and has so many would be hit singles. She's by far my favorite female singer/songwriter, and I like her ballady vibrato singing style most of all - but I'll admit theres just a magic with her and Louise together where no matter how good her solo songs were, i always wished for a VS reunion. They just compliment each other so well. Luckily we got that, and i finally got to see them live :) I actually met them after the show and was so awkwardly star struck by Nina haha. It was both one of the best and most embarrassing moments of my life
I prefer BHG as well. It's phenomenal! What reunion show did you go to? I was able to see them at the Roxy in L.A. in 2014. Such a great reunion tour! How jealous I am that you got to meet them! Too cool!
I saw them in Boston in 2014 and then again in 2015 on the Ghost Notes tour. I don't find myself into alot of current music these days (and i'm usually living paycheck to paycheck) so I basically only spring for reunion shows of my favorite 90s bands i never got to see when they were around. I will say though, there's a band called Charly Bliss that opened for VS when I saw them - and they are awesome. One of the few bands right now I really dig.
Love love love this record. One of my favourites since it came out, but really fell back in love with it in November when I moved back to Nebraska from KC. Killer jams, and solid production by Bob Rock. Nice review. ( I can never seem to get Earthcrosser or Benjamin loud enough).
Hi Charles. I don't get many comments on this video and I'm glad you're a fellow VS fan. I fell in love with this album after I heard Volcano Girls on the radio when this first came out in 97. This record totally inspired me to play guitar. Earthcrosser is one to turn up to 11 for sure! Thanks so much for the comment!
Great to see some Veruca Salt on the VC. I'll be seeking out that reissue. Have you heard the 2017 album "Guppy" by Charley Bliss? They're on bandcamp or check out my latest video for some needledrops. Cheers. Mark.
Hey there! I'm sure you'll run across more VS talk on my channel in the near future! I keep hearing about Charley Bliss, but haven't listened to them yet. Thanks for reminding me to seek them out! I'll check out your latest vid. Cheers!
Great review! I agree with your pain of reviewing an album that you love and are attached to. I think I couldn't review a Foo Fighters album properly since I'm a huge fan, haha! I really love this album and they actually reissued it in January this year (unfortunately the Gold colored version is sold out already :/), you can get it from Amazon, I've been thinking of getting it now since the original is so expensive! You seem to have great taste in music! :) -Jani
Interesting Note about 8 arms... I bought it on Day of release. Still remember the Mom and Pop record shop i did, and bought it the same day as David Bowie's Earthling. I always thought it was awesome how 8 arms was released the same day as a Bowie record, and they had the foresight to put "With David Bowie" not only on the album, but pretty much reference that album in the song. I miss the days of being able to buy records early as long as you didnt spread it around like i did with those 2 since i think 8 arms was supposed to actually come out the week after.
Hey! I'm new to your channel. Just subbed. Cool Gretsch kit you have there in the background. Is it a late 70's or early to mid 80's kit? I used an old 70's Gretsch kit for many years. Wonderful drums! Sorry my comment was off topic. Take care. Nico
I subbed to you, too! It's my bf's set. I play drums, but don't play this Gretsch set much because it doesn't sound the best and needs work. It's from the early to mid-80s. My first set was a Mapex and I LOVED it! Thanks. ~Hanna
Thanks Hanna! I appreciate it. Well, those Gretsch drums will sound wonderful when they're up and running. I miss mine even though I play a 1968 Ludwig kit these days. Mapex are well made and good sounding drums. Talk to you later. Have a good one! Nico
I love this record! "Volcano Girls" is a classic! Love Ghost Notes, too. There are even some great songs on Resolver. I'm even a fan of Nina Gordon's solo pop records, especially Tonight and The Rest of My Life. Wish they'd put another album out.
I was lucky enough to see VS on the 8 Arms and Ghost Notes tours. I know Louise is working on a solo album. Not sure about Nina. I sure do love when they collaborate together. It's magic.
Yeah, the Breeders are cool! They have a new album out. I still prefer Veruca Salt over them, but they are a terrific band. Thanks for watching. Peace. ~Hanna
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Awesome. I don't know where they fall on my list but Nina Gordon is my one true celebrity crush. My buddies don't understand that, either. LOL
Nina is my favorite singer of the two. Actually, she'd make one of my favorite singers of all time list. She and Louise harmonize so well together. She is a gorgeous woman.
@@TheOmahaIntrovert You seem to enjoy exploring the music of the 90s. Check out anything and everything from FAILURE if you have not already. Their album, Fantastic Planet, is number one on my desert island wish list. They are criminally underrated and underrepresented.
Hi Al! Recently got the IV reissue on vinyl. I love that one! I remember when Resolver came out my last year of high school. I was really anticipating it but then was a little disappointed. I just missed Nina with the band.
@@TheOmahaIntrovert Yeah, they had a fight in times of 8 Arms to Hold You, and Ghost Notes lacks energy. But I think is the nostalgia what matters most. You listen and travel to a time when life was easier.
Great review. Love them so much too. You nailed the album. Eight Arms for me presents a hurt and angry Louise Post who ditched Dave Grohl after discovering he was cheating on her. Ironically on the next album Resolver it was Nina who was on the receiving end of Louise's pain which is what made Ghost Notes so nice, it's their healing record. Love your drum kit too. Cool from top to toe 😉👍
Critics hate most of my favourite albums :) Saw this tour opening for Bush and left during Bush as VS was so great...Bush had the girls screaming but VS absolutely killed if.
The Omaha Introvert BTW I listened to Sun Kil Moon last night for the first time after you recommended. I’ve sold a ton of their records at my record stores but never actually gave them a listen. I’m heading out this morning to go buy some of their albums so thank you very much for the recommendation

I had a similar experience as Nazz with Bush. My friends Dragged me to see them in like 94 when Everything Zen was all over the airwaves. They played at Irving Plaza in NYC, none of us had ever heard of the opening band.... The Toadies. The Toadies were AMAZING live. They blew the roof off Irving Plaza. Since they werent "The Toadies" yet, and just a band opening for Bush, all their eq was under one of the balconies and my friend and i spoke with Todd for a bit while he was packing up. Became one of my fav bands. saw them everytime they played in NYC till they parted ways the 1st time... that being said... Bush came out as was SO BAD, that as they played, Irving Plaza started to filter out, by the time they came out for their encore and did Glycerine, 90% of the audience had walked out already. I always had a strict policy of I paid to see it, im staying the whole time... as soon as he started to do Gyycerine solo.... i couldnt take it anymore and walked out as well. Bush to this day is still one of the worst bands ive ever seen live.

You were so generous to let me stand in front of you and Tracy! Such an amazing concert experience and I'm so thankful!

When they say its "over produced" that means that everything sounded too clean and propper to be "grunge"

Yes! Straight, and Stoneface is right on. This is my fav album from them, it's a pity that it's not available on most places.
Good album, thanks for recommendation

I think this is my favorite album that they did. a few of the song sounds alike but i can get past that. Stoneface is my fave off the album.
Stoneface is a great track! So full of angst. Love Nina's vocal delivery on it.
Great review. Love them so much too. You nailed the album. Eight Arms for me presents a hurt and angry Louise Post who ditched Dave Grohl after discovering he was cheating on her.
