I just did this sender/float repair. Mine was full of diesel too. I thought about repairing (soldering) the crack I found, but did some research for a replacement brass float. While looking for a replacement brass float I discovered a plastic one that fits old Jeep CJ’s and also fit older Ford trucks. The part is an Omix-ADA Fuel Level Float - 17729.01. Work great.

Enjoyed it. I have a 97 also. My back tank just shows empty. My plan is to remove the tank, instead of cutting a hole. But I thank you for the video.

"I'm proud of my truck," proceeds to mutilate it.

Dropping the tank is very easy just did it on my 96 7.3 lol cutting a hole in the bed is a "I can do it for less" cliche

Can you provide more information regarding the part number for the Seal, the float and the tool to pull the lines? Got a 1997 with the exact same problem. I almost looks like I can pull the sending unit without dropping the tank. Thanks in advance! Josh

I have an aftermarket flatbed/headache rack on mine 97 250HD which is nice because I can pull pump in and out without removing bed or tank, while searching for cause of my gauge reading always empty issue, I popped sending unit out checked it etc., it wasn't my issue, apparently when reassembling I didn't get the gasket seated properly, next morning while filling my tank up, it seemed to be taking longer than usual to fill tanks.... sure enough with gas pump reading at +$90 dollars or so a start to hear liquid flowing... look down to about 4 ft wide puddle of gas growing under my truck as fuel spilled out at same speed pump was putting it in 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️.... just figured I'd share that as a cautionary tale for anyone who may be doing this and damage that gasket or drop it in tank, and considers how important it is or isn't since the locking ring is so secure either way.... make sure you have that gasket and make sure sending unit is properly seated on it prior to putting lock ring back on...
