About The Facts of Life: At the Eastland School in Peekskill, New York, Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae) oversees the day-to-day lives of students who come from all walks of life. Under the care of this slightly nutty but always caring housemother is the beautiful, rich and spoiled Blair Warner (Lisa Whelchel); the witty, plump and impressionable Natalie Green (Mindy Cohn); Dorothy “Tootie” Ramsey (Kim Fields), the young and persistent campus gossip; and Joanna “Jo” Polniaczek (Nancy McKeon), a Bronx-born and bred streetwise kid whose tough exterior masks the brains and compassion she's hiding underneath. Whether it's the challenges posed by Eastland's academic and social scenes, the rise, fall and rebirth of the businesses they start and run together, or the comings and goings of new faces in school and town, including Edna's replacement (and sister) Beverly Ann Stickle (Cloris Leachman), the girls are always ready for a new challenge, and perceptive enough to learn from each new situation.

What a great show this
was.📺
It’s funny because Eastland was supposed to be so prestigious yet the school was always on the verge of being bankrupt.
It's that the reason why in this clip seems Jo was cleaning the school and doing the dishes? Seems they couldn't even afford a cleaner.
@@teijaflink2226 I can’t tell you how many times the school was going to have to close, yet it allegedly went clear back to the early 1900’s. Huh?
It was a private school so in private schools they depend on enrollments for money from wealthy families. It's not like a public school that has primary funding from government. Understand??
@@SilkyShish It’s a tv show - they’re not real. Understand.
@james3517 Yet, you still felt the need to write your initial comment anyway, right? Given its a TV show, then why did you write your comment? You are hilarious. Your response to me completely contradicts your own argument. Understand?? Lol.
So Jo was willing to jeopardize her education and future all because she hated Blair? How petty.
Jo felt that if Blair's family foundation was paying for her education Blair would 'own jo" and be able to hold it over her for the rest of the time they were together at Eastland. Jo did not understand that the adults who evaluate these forms would not share them with Blair. They contain her PII. Even back then (1980's) it would have been a violation of privacy/data breach.
Their rivalry was an “engine “ on the show. Many jokes and plots revolved around it
She doesn't hate her, she hates her attitude when it comes to the name of her family. A snob. This is why Jo came along and how they do so well with each other. They both learn from each other.
@@inkedhigh Well, okay. I guess that’s fair. But Blair and Jo did hate each other at first. But their attitudes wavered.
she was like 16, kids do stupid stuff, jo was still very proud to accept help in the early years, she got better with time

She was ALWAYS MY ALL TIME FAVE❤❤❤
Tootie and Jo were always into something. If only they spun off a series about the two of them going from town to town solving mysteries. Or they join a convent after almost dying in a fire that destroyed Eastland.
They are both major hotties at their current age in 2023 🙂
Whoa! Those are pretty odd scenarios!
I'm not ashamed to admit that I liked this show and this was my favorite episode. Blair and Jo start a new friendship.
Full episode PLZZZZZ
Blair to the rescue! This is one of my favorite episodes!
How tough can Jo be real or extremely
It's actually true that education gets cut short even with the lottery winnings that gets disregarded with life now.
I remember this episode
Growing up during this time seemed pretty prosperous. Granted my family had zilch, but the economy was booming
What I remember about the end of the episode is when Jo thought that Mrs. G sent in her application, she was thrilled but when she found out it was Blair, she was furious.
so cool man
Was there a main reason Jo Felt a lot of extreme rage just asking
not really but I guess it had something to do with her neighborhood and how she had to hold her own since her mother worked in diner overtime and her father was in prison. plus the fact she attended a school where everyone was way more privileged than her. It made her irritated which is why she treated blair the way she did. however in the show's later seasons (7 to 9) she's quite tame.
@@nikiwrld My dad wasn't in prison my mom had a masters degree and I was in public school but I still related since I was the only special ed student mainstreamed (attending mostly regular classes). Being invisible different can make you defensive.
because it was funny lmao. That's my kind of woman though
The rich writers felt the poor person had to be angry all the time.
I thought Jo didnt like there anyway, she always wanted to leave and now she wants to stay.
❤🥰
Season and episode?
Ain't Miss Beholden. The 4th season opener by air date, but it was the 3rd episode filmed. The Sound of Silence was the first one filmed for the season.
@@stephenholloway6893 , thanks!
This episode was really blaming Reaganomics
Even though life under Carter was even more difficult, and right now, Bidenomics is awful.
It was all kinda stupid. She tested well she didn’t need private school to go to college.
Stock market has been up since 1983.
Smooth Natalie real smooth
I hate the way Jo reacts to Blair sending in her application on her behalf. It's such an extreme overreaction.
What was mrs Garrett worried about just asking
Jo might have to leave Eastland.
Ay Caramba
