About Who's The Boss?:
Being a parent is tough; being a single parent is even tougher. So when injuries and his wife's death force ex-baseball player Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) into retirement, and a single mom, high powered advertising executive Angela Bower (Judith Light), needed someone to run her household, it was a match made in heaven. Or was it? After convincing her free spirited, mischievous mother, Mona Robinson (Katherine Helmond), that hiring Tony is the right thing to do, the less-than-tidy Angela welcomes him and his daughter Samantha (Alyssa Milano) as the live-in housekeeper for her and her son Jonathan (Danny Pintauro). And while their relationship starts out businesslike and platonic, becoming best friends and confidants makes it hard for two attractive, single adults living under one roof to resist their more grown-up impulses.

I wish more major networks would bring back the family sitcoms. America needs them right now.
Absolutely!! Just the wholesomeness of these older shows impart a certain morale goodness that younger generations should watch and bring us 80's kids back down memory lane 🙂
❤
They always fck up reboots
Canada also needs them too.
Problem is, everything is streaming and no one sits around the tv anymore. Everyone is on their phones
The best part of this pilot episode was the opening credits. Just Tony driving to the house. Takes us back to a different time.
And that song.......
Yes exactly!
Felt that immediately.
yep
@@carlosalomar2211 I liked that version of the song the best.
Well, then they didn't have all the footage they could put in the opening credits as they did afterwards.
I loved it when he said he loved his daughter more.
Y
In less than a minute into the show you already know everything important about Tony.
Uhkaay !!!
yes. very powerful line
Ikr
Their father/daughter relationship is very refreshing to see and watch.
Yup we need more now.
A-O, O-A.....the 80s sitcoms are amazing...Family Ties, Growing Pains...reality shows have killed television.
Exactly right!
Fact
wrong. If you take away reality tv there is just as much tv show if not more today. Hollywood is pumping shows and movies out quicker than ever today.
@Jaime Bee Not true. I can name a ton of good shows recently.
A toast to scripted television. Rest in peace.
I can't believe this is the pilot. The easy chemistry between every single actor feels like they've been working together for years.
Very true. Well Judith light had previously roles on some daytime soap operas ( I think " one life to live"), Tony danza, starred on the sitcom "taxi" and Katherine Helmond also starred in some other sitcoms ( unfortunately can't remember which ones) and I think Alyssa Milano did some commercials and had some small roles for various shows and Danny pintauro did some small roles for various shows and some commercials ( that's how child stars get started)
Agreed.
I haven’t seen this pilot episode since I was a kid in the 1980s. Wow, the chemistry between Tony Danza and Judith Light was instant and through the roof already!
Thats why they were both cast in the show…
This pilot was well done. Everyone was very charming. I used to watch this show back in the 80’s.
THESE OLD SITCOMS HAD 25 MINUTES OF ENTERTAINMENT AND 5 MINUTES OF COMMERCIALS...NOW IT IS THE OTHER WAY AROUND...
Letz not b surprised B/c today's and trumps generations has the attention span of a 12-15 second fly scientifically proven
True
Also, the TV theme has gone the way of the dodo. Gotta pack in more of those damn commercials 😑
I miss quality shows. Theres so much quantity, finding a really good and wholesome show is impossible. I miss quality.

This show came out the year I was uprooted and moved to a new town after my parents divorce. It sounds lame but I was also going to a “brand new life around the bend” and it changed my life like it did Tony and Sam’s. This show meant the world to me. Still does.
Hopefully you're doing GREAT 👍
The natural chemistry between Tony and Judith from day one is quite an amazing thing to rewitness.
This pilot was sensational. What great chemistry. It played out like it was a veteran show that was a smash hit.
*_Who's the Boss?_* was a smash hit. It ran for 8 seasons (196 episodes) with 4 of those seasons among the Top 10 in the ratings
WOW!, this was the pilot and look how well they meshed... as if they'd been acting together for years. No wonder the show went on to be one of the most popular sitcoms of the 1980's & up and run for 8 seasons! ('84-'92)
When a cast can work as well this one, you know the show is gonna be a hit
@@TheOfficialIceman s$sss sss s as
Yep! Right up there with Night Court, the Cosby Show, The Golden Girls and Growing Pains. All five of which started in '84-'85 and ended in '92.

You'd never catch me doing something dumb like sleeping with my employer--until the final season.
@@TheTillmanSneakerReview Not for real though, Angela's blaming him for possibly costing her a big promotion. What in the hell does her boss'(who's off the clock) interaction with your housekeeper have to do with your professional promotional.
He's right, in the corporate world it is absolutely stupid to sleep your boss especially if any little off the clock interaction can trigger something.
@@TheTillmanSneakerReview 1. His character isn't 35, it is 31 and having a windowless van means absolutely nothing. 2. "Pre Pubescent girl with black eye is normal". If you watch the 3rd Episode you'd know exactly where they come from; and you will know why and how a girl her age ends up with black eyes.
I swear, 80s sitcoms had the best opening theme songs. This, Family Matters, Growing Pains, Perfect Strangers, Family Ties, Full House, Step By Step.
Alan Thicke wrote a lot of them
@@tarie77 Best I can tell he didn't write this one, but I never knew he wrote Different Strokes and The Facts of Life. Also did game shows. Thanks for the insight.

Man, life was so good back in those days. I really miss it.
Sam: Dad, how can a woman make enough money to afford a great house like this?
Tony: She works hard and is real smart. You could do the same thing.
What a powerful and important message to young girls of that (and really any) time.🖒
Yes
Tony really showed and sent the message to his little girl, Samantha, that nothing is impossible if you work hard and study well, you can achieve anything which is exactly what angela did.
That's the point of the show. Now they just pretend that we were always put down, weren't allowed to do anything, women just stayed at home and cried all day because they weren't allowed to work. The 80's tv shows and moves were always pro women working and having a career but also having a family and they didn't even have to make a point of it like now. Men were allowed to be around.
@@AnnaMaria-oy1fp I can't like or agree with this comment more. One of the things I appreciate about this show is that it elevated women without browbeating or denegrating men or the traditionsl role of a homemaker.

Most of the '80s shows I have revisisted since a kid have not aged well for me. This one still rings funny and warm to me all these years later.
Wonderful chemistry between Danza and Light. A great pilot episode to a classic television sitcom.
Why don't we have wholesome shows like this anymore?

This show could have been super cheesy like many of the other 80s sitcoms. But the acting really helped ground the show and get you to enjoy it. The chemistry between Tony Danza and Judith Light was so good that their interactions always felt 'real'. You could tell right away with the pilot that the show was going to work.
You don't think the script had anything to do with the show's success?

@@granolafunk6192 Did I say that Danza wasn't likeable? Some of us look at any show or movie in its totality, not just whether the leading actor tickles our funny bone. A show with a good script has a much better chance of succeeding even when the cast is not charismatic than the other way around.

Judith Light’s wardrobe in this show was simply perfect.
Quintessential 80s hair and wardrobe. That is one thing the 90s did better hence Angela was a fashionista in latter seasons.
Yep. they were all so elegant. i loved all her outfits and especially her formal dresses like the black dress she wore for her soririty reunion or like burgundy color dress she wore when she was having a date with a guy named mitch, and many others
Yeah, their costume budget was shared with the Golden Girls
@jrlomy2k I read that the lady who played blanche(rue mclanahan) on the golden girls, asked wardrobe if she could keep all of blanche's clothes if she paid a little something extra for them and they said "yes". it seams that she liked blanche's outfits so much.
@@pallavisreetambraparni6995 I always felt like Blanche & Rose had the best outfits, while Dorothy always looked frumpy, and I know that Bea Arthur was semi self conscious about her figure and height, but they always seemed to choose the worst looking outfits for her.

Back when life was so much simplier, the 80's was special because it was before the internet and cell phones and tablets took over. Tony danza played the role of single father/windower tony micelli really well in the sitcom "who's the boss?" he showed that it is not easy to raise a daughter on your own. you have to be both mom and dad to her. you have to be loving, understanding, and strict sometimes. tony was sometimes overprotective of samantha and that drove samantha crazy, that that was only because he cared about her so much.
I'm still in love with Tony in 2024😍
To me the best part of the pilot was Tony saying "I love my daughter a lot more."
Yep. Shows that he's a loving and caring parent. And that's what it takes to be a good parent.
The lyrics are meaningful at this point of my life.

beautiful. one of my favorite sitcoms. a widower, and single father leaves new york city and moves to a better place takes a job as a housekeeper working for a divorcee and single mother who has one son in order to make a better life for his daughter. it goes to show, that things like this can happen in real life, and that life really can be unpredictable sometimes, and we need to be strong and be prepared for anything that life throws at us.

Omg!! You’re right. I used to caddy at WCC and take that road to get up to the club. I had relatives that lived in Rye Colony.
To be fair, perhaps Jonathan did the RIGHT THING by NOT answering the door. It is VERY DANGEROUS for a child to answer a door to a total stranger. ESPECIALLY ones driving a CREEPY looking van!
