I just replaced the input shaft bearing on a Honda Jazz (Honda Fit) 2005 gearbox using these instructions. Thanks to the video I was guided all the way.
I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was tightening the 12 mm case bolts too tight. I took it apart and redid it with my torque wrench to 20lbs. works like a charm now. I would have been lost without your video though. thank you so much. :)
These instructions were fantastic and gave me the stones to attempt transmission work which always scared me. I actually did this job a while ago and my transmission is still perfect. No more of that nasty grinding sound. Thanks very much for this.
I have a badd input shaft bearing do you have to take the complete transmission out to repair it plus the bell housing or can you detach it from the bell housing and not have to take the whole transmission out to get to the Bearing this is on a 2004 Nissan frontier 5 speed manual
I only replaced the one bearing. The second shaft clutch case bearing is still in while I cleaned the case. You can replace all the bearings as good measure, but I find only the one commonly fails.
Use a small pry bar or screw driver to pull the shaft (try and grab the counter shaft nut) up into place. Another method is to bolt the cases together and then flip the transmission so the counter shaft falls into the snap ring groove.
I have never had the 2005 fit gear box apart. I can say if they are the same. Get lots of requests, must be a common failure with them too. Sorry I can’t help more.

Hey I'm very curious if you I have a video of the 6 speed, from a k20z3? 2008 civic si. I'm sure a lot of six speeds are pretty much the same. Really hope you have a video on that
Hi, nice video. The one with re-assembly is great too. I removed my tranny for a 97 civic and just removed the ISB and was noisy. Slight differences in the tranny but otherwise very similar. Going to take my time to reassemble it properly. Video has been helpful. I never removed the check bolts with springs and ball bearings and when I split it apart three ball bearings came out of somewhere? different than yours I know... Hopefully I can figure out where they go :)
Great video, but how do you remove the 'output bearing' on the end of the mainshaft there thats visible on top right after you take off the top half of the gearbox casing? Thx
@BackYard Tech I have a question. Would the process to replace bearings be the same for a 5 speed manual from a Honda Jazz/Fit from 2005 ? Have you done it before? I tried looking for videos on UA-cam but all are very amateur, bad quality and not explaining a lot. Also most of them are about CVT gearbox which I believe is quite different then mine
Hi thanks for posting the video Is the 2005 Honda jazz gearbox similar to that box in the video? I replaced new clutch and the release bearing but still making that bearing noise. Noise disappeared when i ever push the clutch in What is your thought? Thank you 🙂
Thank you very much ! I will be doing this today as well. It was a good video. Did you also replace the washers for anything or reuse those as well ? Should I take out the other bearings as I'm cleaning it ?
Your video has helped me greatly in getting to the input shaft bearing once I figured out that was the problem. The bigger problem is that after removing the gear assembly the inner bearing ring came out with the assembly and the balls went everywhere leaving the outer bearing ring in the case. Any wisdom on removing the outer part of a pressed bearing? Thanks.
It sucks when the other bearing sticks in the case! I have no true and test method to remove these stubborn bearings. I usually use two 90deg picks and try to pull it out. Sometimes tapping on the case will aid with removal. Good luck.
The way to get that bearing out is to fill in as much as you can in the middle with thick grease, and get a punch/drift that's almost the same size as the hole in the inner race and drive it down into it. The grease will act like a hydraulic fluid and push the bearing up an out back toward you.
Question, I have a 04 civic lx coupe, and have the noisy bearing issue, is it best to replace back to oem or use something more durable? And how will this bearing effect the transmission other than making raspy sounds in 1,2,and 3?
Other than noise it doesn't effect the operation transmission at all. I have only seen one that the bearing came apart and damaged the main shaft itself. I have yet to find second line bearing that fits this transmission.
Awesome thanks, everything still engages fine, I just don't know enough to see if I should worry about a throw-out bearing or plate and clutch at the moment.

If you want to be very paranoid about damaging it you can cut and use a piece of wood to hammer on. What did you end up doing?
@@alexw1953 I turned the radio volume up a bit 😀 Im just hoping that it will last... Im not that skilled to replace it, and I found some people on the internet that live with it for many years.
@@ondrejborovec9790 lol exactly what I needed to hear, how often do you drive it since then?
@@alexw1953 Its about a year since I got the car (its was already making that noise). It had 250000km, now its on 260000km. I didnt record the noise, but I would say its still the same.
Im starting to think this is the problem with my 02 Acura TL. Recently my lower ball joint broke, in the process it snapped the axel out... had both parts replaced. Trans hasn’t been the same since.
But how do you remove the main bearing that has a back wall? Cant punch something through
Hii sir greetings. In my front wheel drive car, when I release the clutch in 1st gear, there is a jerking noise, and then the car moves. The same problem occurs when changing gears, including reverse gear. All engine mounts, wheel bearings, clutch kit, flywheel, and both main shaft bearings have been replaced, but the problem persists. Please help me with this issue.
Thank you for that video. Great job! I have a 2003 Accord EX Coupe. Pops out of second gear. Any experience with that issue? A transmission mechanic quoted me $2800.00 to repair! Please tell me he is wrong 😫
Synco sets for Honda's are $$$. Is it a 6 speed?
Yes it is. I have to skip second gear in order to drive it :/
Are input shaft/main shaft bearings known issues within imports? I’m doing the same thing on my 4g eclipse. The bearing was missing 2 of the 7 ball bearings that are supposed to be in there..lol made quite the awful noise driving..
Is this the same on an 07 7 speed auto?
