I too think the 1084 has more of a midish bump. 1073 for me. Thanks for doing these!

I've tried to love the 1073 but its always had a harsher sound and I've always found it difficult to carve a tone that I find pleasing with it, but I really like the 1084 and have been able to use it in many of my mixes.
Very cool!
1073 has a more solid sound to me, it adds more clarity to each instrument. The bass cutting through nicely, drums hitting just right. Clean guitars too.

I prefer the 1084. Best balance and depht. The 1073 is a bit harsh and bright in comparison.

I thought the 84 sounded a bit clearer in the upper mids. The 73 sounded more even though. Great track btw. Is that yours?

Thank you for doing this. I would be interested in hearing how these effect vocals. I have the 1073 and it's good...but I keep wondering how the 1084 would sound. Some people say they love the Manley Voxbox, but I'm not in love. But it's crazy...I don't really dig the "Manley sound" for the most part. Maybe there's something I'm missing. Lastly...the UA 610 ...I think it's B...is just old analog and dumpy sluggish to me. Not my cup of tea for vocals. But...anyway. I'm always looking for "THAT SOUND!" by checking out Chandler Limited, API, Shadow Hills, etc. Lol..how subjective is that?

You have to spend some time with the Manley stuff to really figure out how to get the most out of it.
Neve 1084 is the one for vocals trust me!
1073 sounds more open and full to me. 1084 a but more slick. That said there is something in the top end percussion on both that is harsh. Needs to be EQd out.

1084 is more classic and brighter in uppers, 1073 more pop sound and a bit thick and heavier. So, both are good but for different styles. That is point and not "which one is better"...better for what? Is there best Mic on world? There is lot of good mics that why every big studio have lot of preamps and even more Mics. There is no "the best". Put right sound on right place is crucial. I saw many good equipment in hand of not so good co called "producers"; and I saw low mid range equipment that sound really classy in right hands.

David, can the UAD 1073 plugin be used on the mix buss (is there a stereo mode)? Sorry if I missed this. I know the Arturia has a stereo instance, but I'm thinking about subscribing to UAD Spark.

Unfortunately not
Yes you can, only the 1073. UAD has a native version now. You only need an internet connection.

I have the UAD 1084. I tried the 1073 just now (male vocal only) and came up with very similar results to yours. It sounded a little louder to me, so reduced the trim slightly. Still seemed to have more girth, which is why it may seem louder to me. Guess I’m going to need to add it to my collection, with it on sale and added incentives. 1084 sounds a little more modern, hi fi, 1073 has more girth. Both sound great!
