But my first car a year ago at age 22. It’s a 2011 Chevy Malibu and I spent 3800 on it. I Cannot fathom spending 20 times that let alone even five times that for a car. It gets me from .8 to point B the same as spending $90,000 on a car only differences I don’t have a car payment and I’m not drowning in debt.
That’s awesome my friend, sounds like you are a smart guy and know what you are doing. I wish I did that when I was younger. I made lots of mistakes out of pride and greed. Still not perfect lol. How many miles are you cranking out on your Malibu? I really appreciate you sharing this with us. -Brandon 🫡
Not defending dealers, but manufacturer greed is also a problem. A big reason that dealerships are still around is because manufacturers ALSO want them. Manufacturers (some more than others, lookin at you Stellantis) require dealers to buy ludicrous stock of poorly selling models to gain access to the cars that make a dealer profit. This provides a sizable safety valve for a poorly designed model year. The dealer takes a great deal of loss on being forced to buy and attempting to sell bad cars. It is very much in the manufacturers interest that dealers are required to eat 500 Darts for access to 15 Hellcats.
Mark, absolutely brother. manufactures are definitely part of the problem, but I think it's a tug-of-war battle happening between manufactures and dealerships which is causing prices to skyrocket. I could be wrong, but just from the data that I presented in this video and other data that I read it only makes sense to me. I didn't know about Stellantis requiring dealerships to buy stock that is crazy. This is why dealership models need to just go away. Because then it would stop companies like Stellantis from being able to strong arm a dealership. Thanks for sharing that with me Mark, I didn't know about that. This is exactly why I love making these videos and talking to you guys. -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy Oh it's not just Stellantis, all manufacturers require the dealer to buy their excess models. The price of that excess stock is usually factored in to whatever they tack on after MSRP+Doc. Being in a city with good transit, I just take the train. I haven't found a car yet that's worth the money.
Simply not true. Local Ford dealer has the most popular trims of all the cars, but aren’t selling cars because they still have COVID priced marked up cars and marking MSRP cars and trucks as “deals”.
I used to be a "Ford Guy". My first new vehicle was a '72 Pinto. I've had numerous vehicles over the years, but always leaned to Ford. That is, until they completely abandoned the economy market. I currently have a 10 year old F150, but no longer want to spend the money on the fuel and repair costs associated with such a large vehicle. I just bought a new, 4 cylinder, normally aspirated, manual transmission "economy" car. I couldn't (wouldn't) afford anything Ford offered new. They drove me to a Japanese manufacturer - Nissan. I now have a brand new Nissan Versa - under $20,000 out the door, and I'm getting 40+ miles per gallon. The F150 is up for sale.
A late 60s Corvette with a 427 L-88 V8, 4 speed rock crusher transmission, and all the other high performance options, a cutting edge sports or what could even be considered super car back then cost a little over $4,000 When the new Corvette Z06 came out it was selling for about $130,000 and I saw dealerships taking advantage of the limited number and demand of the cars, price gouging the price up to $300,000 or more. That is over 50 times more than a Corvette L-88 cost in 1969.
It's pretty wild isn't it brother? I don't understand how some of those older Corvettes are so cheap. I was looking for a C5 a while back and it was pretty unbelievable. Remember when the new C8 was supposed to come out and it was supposed to be under $60,000? I remember thinking I was going to buy one out right because of my bonus in the military, but they were late to the market and then when they did come to the market, the cheapest one you could find was $80-$90,000. I don't understand where these companies are getting off on increasing the price like this. Some of it is the dealers fault though for sure. These price mark ups are insane. I don't care what people say about Tesla, they are at least bucking the system, and I am all about it. -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy You can get a C-8 for $90,000 or a C-5 for $20,000 and make it an absolute track weapon. Some C-4 and late C-3 Corvettes were for sale as little as $5,000. Only people really buying new Corvettes just have money to piss away, people serious about going fast usually buy a used one and modify it.
Yeah man I can't imagine dumping that kind of money into a car...and for what? Like you said, buy an older one and then modify it. I must be in the wrong line of work lol...idk how these guys and gals make that kind of coin. -Brandon
@@riddell26 Sure did, if you adjusted for inflation all the way back to the late 60s early 70s Mnium wage would be between $20-$30 an hour. Most people make about $10-$15 an hour as a minimum wage. If I go back to the late 90s my parents worked a factory job and got paid $11.00 an hour. One of the more expensive trucks being sold at that time was the "New Dodge Ram." Pickup truck which was about $30,000 brand new. This was expensive because back in those days MOST trucks cost between $10,000 and $20,000 unless it was something really special. Fast forward to today and a base model F-150 will cost you about $50,000. A more expensive truck will cost anywhere between $80,000 and $100,000 which is more comparative to the Dodge Ram referenced earlier. I have seen some trucks get dealer marked up to $200,000 to $300,000 If you adjusted for inflation just for a $80,000-$100,000 truck people would be getting paid $29.00 to $33.00 an hour in my factory. Most people working in my factory right now make about $20.00 an hour about $10.00 an hour short of what it should be if you adjusted for inflation. Also keep in mind that there was less automation in factories making trucks, more of the manufacturing was here in the United States, meaning not only did people get paid comparatively more value for their dollar, but more people were employed through those same factories.
These prices I’ve been seeing are eye-watering, doesn’t help that most I’ve talked with don’t seem to see the problem with it and want to simply pass it off as “it’s just how things are now”
People that just accept the high prices and the fees right now are definitely part of the problem. if they continue to cave then to the rinsing process by the dealership, then dealerships are training people to accept it. I always tell people the best way to buy a car is from an individual or a small town dealer. Are you currently in the market right now for a car my friend? -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy I was at one point, ended up sticking to my current vehicle I picked up due to the previous one giving out. Unfortunately I ended up at a dealer since all the private sellers were claiming up on not wanting to show underbody pictures and other basic information, I will say the amount of unwanted dealer additions put on by the end of the dealing was what had me wanting to leave yet was able to get employee pricing though neighbors.
Sorry to hear about your other vehicle given out on you man. I totally understand the struggle there. it's probably why I overcompensated and now I have six cars lol. I wonder why they didn't want to show under body pictures.... I'm glad you were able to get employee pricing though. I know it's a very stressful process. -Brandon
Are you serious? That is so highly unethical of that dealership to do that. I could understand a salesman just not knowing and being ignorant or even possibly being confused. I know when I worked in sales occasionally I would make mistakes and I would always fix it and overdeliver. But to me if a salesman did that, it screams malice. Other than that, how is the car working for you? What kind of car is it by the way? Thanks for commenting brother and I hope you have a great weekend. -Brandon
Here in Illinois, the criminals at the dealership were selling the function with the key under the dash being removed and the car was unable to start even with a key, it was an Illinois law and the dealershiP was charging customers for that feature they had no option of removing
Agree, dealership law make no sense! A lot of laws makes no sense and does not sound matching the spirit of our Constitution, such as the minimum wage law. Two legal parties should be able to do business or form any type of business relationship they want, as long as it is not hurting other people's freedom.
I am in favor of some regulations because it prevents Homer Simpsons from dumping toxic waste into water streams. But clearly the dealership model laws are not working and they need to be replaced. If a law is put in and it's not working then just get rid of it, I don't understand why this is so difficult. The amount of money that consumers can save if they just didn't purchase at dealerships is off the chain. Thanks for commenting my friend and I really appreciate your support of the channel. -Brandon
Politicians doing what politicians do think they’re helping and doing everyone a favor when majority of the time they’re just screwing things up. I love going to dealerships to look at all the new cars and stuff that they have on the lot, but I don’t like the salesmen or really anything else about dealerships, which is why I go look at cars when dealerships are closed. Great video man, I love All Cars with John so it was great to see you reference him a couple of times! Also I love the idea of selling direct to consumer. And with that people could in theory option their own cars to what they want and what they need verses what’s on the dealership lot.
Yeah man I agree here, sometimes they think they are doing good which is commendable but they don’t always think of the 2nd and 3rd order effects. I just wish that when these kinds of laws are failing, that they get changed. Even government entities are seeing the failure in the current model, which is one reason I cited it. Blew my mind. I too like looking at the new cars but dislike everything else. I wanted to work at a dealer when I was younger because I just wanted to be around the new cars. I love them! 😍 and I love All Cars with Jon, such a good guy and a wealth of knowledge. Hopefully he sees this video and it helps him get more viewers. Could you imagine how awesome it would be to just buy straight from a factory…it used to be like that. You could literally custom order a car and there weren’t these games they play now. Thanks again for commenting brother, always love reading your comments. -Brandon
I know I have already told you how I got a 2023 Nissan Sentra S, but I got lucky with the dealership. It was marked at $17,999 and I went to the dealership with my dad. They told us how that was a pricing error and how it was supposed to be marked at $19,999 but since we saw it at $17,999 they gave it me at that price. After everything was signed and done it came out to coating $18,150 and I paid for it with the money in my savings! I still can’t believe how lucky I got.
Dang bro that’s awesome you got such a great deal. I wonder if maybe they purposely mislabeled the price just so they can move some metal. I’m glad it’s rocking for you. You should show that bad boy off on instagram brother! I’d love to see it. -Brandon
Always bought my vehicles privately won’t step foot on a stealership the markups are crazy at the moment. So many customers come into my shop that show me this big work order from the stealership and maybe half of the things they say need replacing are perfectly fine for thousands of miles yet.
Absolutely brother that seems to be the right call. I always advise people that ask me where to buy a car, to buy private or from a local small town dealer. What is one of the craziest things that you have seen come in from a dealer? I've seen online where a guy was told he needed a new transmission and engine and all he needed was a software update which a third-party mechanic did. It's so dishonest it's not even funny anymore. I don't understand how some of these people are able to go to bed at night. As a business owner, I can never compromise my ethics and morals. Thanks for commenting brother and I really appreciate your support. You have been a long time viewer and I want you to know it hasn't gone unnoticed. -Brandon

Most dealerships like to mark up the price. I'm not talking about 20k over the original price. I'm talking about like 60k to 80k over the MSRP. Unlike other countries in the Middle East, they don't really mark up the cars in dealership. America and Australia dealership are just a joke
Yeah I’ve seen some wild stuff too brother. Saw a 40k markup recently on a Ford Raptor. They wanted 125k! Does the Middle East just not allow those kinds of price mark ups or is the business practice just different there? I’ve been to the Middle East and always met the nicest people there and never got the vibe I was being rinsed. Thanks again for the tip my friend. You always make my day. -Brandon
@A-BombEnergy I'll always support you, brother, and also in the Middle East, a lot of dealerships are in competition with others for who sells the most cars for a cheaper price and plus the government doesn't allow any dealership to mark up over 35k to help people with lower income
This is an outstanding production, Sir. I mean that. It gets to the root of a lot of problems with products we purchase: lobbyists. The reason prices are higher, consumers get screwed, and government regulations seemingly choke an industry is because of lobbyists and the organizations they represent. Even in my sparsely populated state, the small town mom and pop dealers are being put under by the big players. Please keep your content coming.
Thank you for the compliment my friend and its good to see you again. I hope your small town dealers can stay focused and keep getting the job done. Thanks again for being such a loyal and supporter of the channel. It hasn't gone unnoticed my friend. -Brandon
Another thing to add on your point about warranty repair times, a lot of people also don't know how mechanics get paid. Most dealer mechanics are paid flat rate so if our labor guide says a job should take an hour you get paid for an hour, whether or not that job takes you half an hour or two hours. Yet when that job is a warranty repair the labor time will get cut to half an hour so not only does it screw customers when dealers jack prices but it screws the mechanics out of time on their paychecks. Even if the labor rate is $200 an hour the mechanics already only sees around $25 of that for every hour they work
Yeah man I tried to explain that concept in the video, I hope it came out right. Because what you are saying is so important to the subject. I’ve heard mechanics in forums complain about how certain jobs take double what the manufacturer pays. Even Eric the Car Guy would complain about it when he first started off. The old days, from what I’m told is that mechanics would always make half at minimum of what labor costs were. There is a reason repairs aren’t always the best now…you can’t underpay people at such an extent. As a business owner there are things people don’t realize when it comes to costs, but what dealers are doing…I’m shocked honestly. Thanks for commenting brother, I hope you have a stellar weekend. -Brandon
Man I hope they can get more. I’m really trying to enhance the quality and information as best as I can. You guys deserve it and I want you to have the best I can put out. Next video is going to be on Toyota…so let’s hope we can really push the envelope. Always appreciate the support my friend. -Brandon
Aye, I have a story where I bought a 2016 Chrysler 200S , and after a month, they called me to tell me I have to return my vehicle since the loan didn't go through. I was approved for 9% on capital 1 and had the paperwork. They said my credit was kicked back because of some situation, and I could resign a new Chrysler capital loan at 16%. I bought 4 vehicles from this dealership, so it was clearly a mistake. So I call capital 1 since I've used the 2 other times, and they tell me that my loan was never submitted. Much more to this story, but the police were involved and said I stole the vehicle if I didn't return it. Then I called the governor's office, and they took a report and then referred me to the consumers report. They had me make a statement, and 2 days later, the dealership called me and offered me 2k plus my down-payment and refunded all my upgrades. I had HIDs, tinted windows, low pro ties , and my audio system installed. They did what is called a spot sale or loan. The police department has their dealership logo on their patrol vehicles ironically. This is the same police department who personally called me outside of jurisdiction and said they'd arrest me if I was driving the vehicle. I had a tag and full coverage on a vehicle I probably could have the right to legally keep for free.
The best part is that you could just FOIA the information to know this is a true story. I assume the same for consumer reports and the gov office. Regardless, if a major dealership does this imagine the number of people who were scammed into Chrysler capital loans. 9% was high, but good enough for the time.
Brother! If this is not the craziest story then idk what else is. I’m so sorry to hear that you had to go through that situation, that must have been ungodly stressful and nerve racking. I’m glad you ended up getting a better deal in the end but regardless, that’s just not cool. I hope something gets done to rectify that dealership…but it just goes to show that the dealership model is just not efficient nor effective for anybody involved. I’m not sure how the police got the dealer logo on their cruisers, I always thought police got them directly from the manufacturer but who knows. Such a shame. I can’t imagine how many people have suffered because of that dealership. How do people like that sleep at night? When I make a mistake, even small ones cause me to lose sleep, especially when it’s other people that are affected. What ended up happening to the 200? Thanks for being such an amazing supporter of the channel my friend. Hope that Ford Expedition gets road worthy for ya real soon. -Brandon
I will try my absolute best to put some cash together and just buy an older car outright. im simply tired of the market and the dealer bullshit. this insanity needs to end and I will do my part. im stuck on huge negative equity on my infiniti right now but im hoping that by mid year next year i can get out of that mess of a deal and that disappointing car. whatever happened to the american dream, man, its just getting nuts and more nuts
Exactly why I’ll continue to buy used cars from 90s-early 2010. Newer cars are priced too high with little security behind them. A lot of new vehicles are breaking down well under 100k miles
That is absolutely the smartest way to do it, my friend. I always tell people whenever they buy a card never finance and if you can save up your money. If you can buy from a local small town dealership or from a individual, you will always get a better deal. Larger dealerships are professionals at rinsing people. I'm sorry to hear about the negative equity you have on your infiniti, I have had that happen before to me too, and the best thing that you can do is just get really lean in your life and try to get yourself out of it and never put yourself back in that situation. If there's anything I can do to help you out my friend just let me know. You can always hit me up on other social media platforms if you need to DM me. -Brandon
not to knock you but a bit of research would have told you infiniti is one of the most depreciating cars in the market. its only bought by people who refuse to drive a non-luxury car but cant get approved for better luxury brands. they sell for terrible prices on the used market. If you bought one new or close to new you should have seen the negative equity coming. But if you were in a very bad position financially and had to buy an older used one from a shit dealer and lost equity then thats different. again not trying to shame you but it is a luxury car which is a choice
Ive been in the car industry for 11 years now in Canada. I sold cars for almost 6 years, and I've been doing marketing + merchandising of all used and new cars for 5 years now at this Nissan Dealership. Hearing all this stuff from the USA is disgusting, and it seems fighting the stigma over there is nearly impossible. The reason I went in the auto industry is simple, i love cars, and i wanted to be around them and sell a brand i actually love. But i also worry about the future of this industry and my career. So this video hits different for me, i just hope Canada handles it differently, where its not so scummy like USA... I feel compelled to defend the car industry because i depend on it... but how can you defend this? its appaling.
That's awesome that you have been in the industry for so long, my friend. And your passion for cars is just like mine. So I totally understand where you are coming from. I want to be around cars and energy drinks nonstop. It's one of my passions. One of the reasons I make these videos is because I want to change the industry for the better so then people like me and you can continue to always be around cars and be around an industry that we love. I hope the Canadian market does better than the USA and then potentially the USA markets can learn from you. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and feelings because I align with them completely. -Brandon
So you saying there are no scams in Canada? Its even worse! Alberta is a brightest example! Lots of of people moved in but there are no car allocations. You want a new kia forte which usually cost 26$ dealer will add extra 5k on top and people are buying because they need a transportation. I cannot buy a new camry for almost 2 years now, eta 2-3 years on hybrid. If a one arrive they add 6-7k on top. Its much better in BC but because they have 12% tax so not much they can add on top
@@A-BombEnergyits even worse in canada. At least in the states there is enought inventory for people here we are waiting for a camry or sienna for 2-3 years
@@azizkizbayev439 you got my comment out of context. I mostly meant Ontario and OMVIC which is a government body that protects consumers. I've never encountered "fuckery" pardon my french, like what you're talking. And the whole wait on Camrys and Siennas is a Toyota issue, they need more manufacturing plants. There's also 350 million + people in US vs 40 million Canada, of course we wait longer. Complain about our telephone service where we pay the most in the world for data plans... thats the real issue in Canada.

It helps to have a friend or two on the inside of a car dealership. It has worked well for me over the years. Of course the results abroad may vary, so it's like, trust but verify. Do the math on your own and be willing to walk away from the deal. Great video as usual Brandon.
That's awesome that you have that connection. Do you find yourself saving a lot of money when you do it that way? My ex-wife tried one time and it was funny because the sales guy who was supposedly her friend raked her over the coals. Blind trust. but I'm sure that's not the case with you because you are clearly a lot smarter than my ex-wife and probably better looking lol 😂. Thanks for the compliments too my friend. @@A-BombEnergyHaving a friend or two on the inside helped a little since one works in finance and was able to get me a little better rate for the loan. The other is a service writer and helped out with service bulletins/updates, oil changes etc. I'm still not one to rely on a dealer for everything. Now that the warranty is up it's my responsibility now.
Great video as always! Dealers are stuggling more and more . Some are closing under the weight of too much debt and too much inventory. I dont think we are heading towards good times as the news /politics say.
Jacob, good to see you brother and thanks for compliments. You always pump me up. Dealers could do so much better if they wanted to, they just don't want to run a lean model. They want to finance everything and run everything on credit. No dealership owns any of the cars. Imagine if they owned every single car. Dealers like Luck Lopez do that and their sales are through the roof. And I agree, good times are not heading our way if things don't change. I certainly hope we are both wrong, I want everyone to be living in prosperity and having great opportunities. Who knows. I hope you have a great weekend Jacob, you are an amazing supporter. -Brandon
A simple bypass of this whole scheme is to buy third party. It'll take longer to get your car, you won't get all the fancy features you want, but prices are always cheaper and people are much more willing to walk on price than a dealership. I've never bought from a dealership and I'm determined to never buy from one
Oh absolutely brother, thats what I always suggest to people. Facebook marketplace is becoming crazy popular too, I can't speak intelligently on it though since I haven't done a ton of research on it. Have you heard anything on it? I got a good deal on a Wrangler when I bought it private. Saved easily 4k. That's awesome you've never bought from a dealer, not many can say that. -Brandon
Facebook marketplace is great. I bought my xj and Camry on there, as well as an Nvidia RTX 3080ti (a 1300 dollar graphics card) for 750. The only bad thing is Facebook datamining but that's inevitable
Thats good to hear, glad you are having good luck with that. I bought a treadmill off there and its been so nice to have in the office. Are you a gamer?
@@A-BombEnergy Facebook marketplace is ok for 15+ year old vehicles. You have to be quick though the good cars are snatched up within hours - a good priced GM square body pickup I was going to go look at was already gone within 12 hours. I've seen some gone in 30 minutes! All the less than 10 year old vehicles seem to be rebuilt titles from junk dealers (the corner lot which flips auction cars) or overpriced big dealers. If your late model is in good condition and you aren't trading it into a big dealer it makes sense sell it to carvana or carmax instead of dealing with random meth-heads trying to low ball you. Besides, who is going to spend $20,000 or more for a car on marketplace which has no warranty? And do you want do deal with somebody trying to get a loan to buy your car? I sold a car to carvana and it was really as easy as the commercials show. Put VIN in website. Get offer. Schedule pickup. They quick inspect. Give you a check. They tow it away. No muss, no fuss.

Went to a Chevrolet dealership looking for a small SUV and they hit me with everything. Interior protectant, exterior sealant, fluid changes (on a literally brand new car), and so called state mandated doc fees. I went to walk out and the fees were immediately waved and I looked at the sales manager and asked in what world do you think I should trust you? He said it was part of the game. That is fine play your game with someone else's money. Also remember anything that is mandatory by the state is not subject to sales tax.
Man brother I’m sorry to hear about that. They all literally do that and idk why, I guess some people fall for it. Good thing you walked away, I know some states actually do make them charge doc fees but that doesn’t mean it’s not negotiable on the sale of the actual of vehicle or even the trade in. It’s what I did last time I went to a dealer. What vehicle did you end up getting my friend? -Brandon
This is definitely why the used market has become what it is today. I’m 22 and make 20 an hour working 40 hours a week, I can’t afford an apartment, and I certainly couldn’t afford a new car. That being said yesterday I just bought my first car, a 2017 expedition platinum :) I like that body style because it’s the last hurrah of the early 2000s styling, and to me feels like a middle finger to current manufacturers lol.
Yeah man idk how people are living today, it’s one reason I’m slightly terrified to get out of the military lol after so long. How’s that expedition running? Congrats on that brother, I love those cars. We used to use them as non standard tactical vehicles and I would set up a trauma bay in the back of them lol. Oh yeah brother. That 2024 VW Jetta I talk about, great car, great salesman, but everyone else in the process was not. It took over a month for them to register the vehicle because they tried some weird way. They also gave me the wrong car and did all the paperwork wrong. My salesman was great. I can't say anything negative about him. The reason why the mechanics are getting a bad wrap now too is simple. Look at how much they are compared to what the dealership charges for labor hours. It's completely disproportional and does not incentivize quality mechanics to work there. Also, great to see you again again, brother. You have been a long time viewer and supporter and I want you to know it has not gone unnoticed. -Brandon
Randy Savage! Always good to see you brother, we have a picture of Randy Savage up in my Team Room at work. Some Navy Seal sent it to us lol. -Brandon 🫡
This is a very true statement brother. We consumers also partly to blame and I am including myself in that because I have made some unwise purchases. Thanks for commenting. I like your username too! Assuming you are an offroader? -Brandon
Frank, these things are skyrocketing hard right now. I used to carry 6 cars on insurance but now I only do 4 because it’s so expensive. Fuel is getting more wild too… I hope car ownership cost goes down soon. -Brandon
This is entirely accurate. Buying my first new car felt exciting and fun, at the start. 5 hours later I felt stressed and regretted purchasing the car. The car was advertised for $46k. Get there and find out that's with special discounts only to select few. They then had extra charges added on like pinstriping, GPS tracking for anti theft, and packages to "protect" the GPS service. Then the worst part came: paperwork. The financial guy mentally put me in a corner saying how much I need extended warranty in case my radio goes out "oh that's $4k if it needs repair" and so forth. I didn't want the added warranty but finally agreed. It was $4,300 extra add on. They then said if I wanted to pay in full cash it's an extra $2k. Said I could only use their loaning service of Wells Fargo (major mistake) and said I couldn't pay the loan off or refinance for 90 days. I didn't enjoy the car after all this. Add expensive insurance, taxes, gas and risk of a new car being abused. Not worth it. I ended up selling the car to recoup my losses and will never do it again. Dealerships for the most part are scum bags only in it for money. And the repair expenses they charger? No way. They are a failure to the American people and reflect nothing but greed.
Hey here’s an idea instead of dropping 4K on the warranty what if you put that money in a mutual fund and so when the time comes to replace your radio it’ll hurt a lot less
Man brother I’m really sorry to hear that this happened to you. It’s such a shame when this happens, they literally rob the joy of buying a car and ruin the happiness people get from it. And it’s really a dishonest way to conduct business. I hope you didn’t lose much when you got rid of the car. What was it if you don’t mind me asking? New? Used? And the F&I guys can be the absolute worst sometimes. Especially when they insult your knowledge by claiming 4k for a radio repair…come on. What did you replace the car with? Thank you so much for sharing that story my friend, I can’t wait to hear from you. -Brandon
I think it really depends on the dealer. I’ve purchased extended warranty’s in the past and I honestly can’t complain. I even got a new transmission one time when mine prematurely went out. I was shocked by how easy it was. But you are right, I’ve heard horror stories and it does scare me at times, especially considering I just bought a new car with a 10 year warranty for my business. -Brandon
Been Australian i have 2 problems with car buying: First 10 years ago i brought expensive ute that set me up, at time interest was low on house repayments but if you brought car or ute on it own n not refinance through house mortgage you would incur 13% to 16% interest compared house way of 5%. So i have pay more, plus have less options on loan dealers. Second problem has just raised its head which no one told me about, safety features. I can understand pass roadworthy your brakes needs fixing or replacing, fair enough. But my airbag light just came on, $700 fix but when you look at years ago airbags were optional, i can drive my old ute around with no airbags, motorbike doesn't have airbags, so why cant it be my choice to have working or not airbag unless i go to sell ute or notify new owner airbag not working so he chooses cost option. Now that most new cars come with hell alot more safety features, imagine all those safety features cost, to repair them your vehicle is worth nothing, so why buy new car or ute? At end of day i cant blame young generation not wanting new car nor can they afford it now nor later on, they enslave poverty n stupid government laws.
Man brother I'm really sorry to hear about those high rates in Australia. we have high rates here as well. Just watched a video of a guy in Japan and their rates are really high too, seems to be a global issue right now. The safety features are insane right now, I think it's cool to have them, but I don't think they should be mandatory. And I'm really sorry to hear that you had to pay $700 to fix your airbag light. I hope now that it fixed it doesn't ever come back on though and the car is trouble free for you. I feel really bad too for the younger generation. It's going to be really hard for them to afford cars. Their best option is a base model sedan from Nissan or VW. Thanks for sharing your story my friend and I hope you have a great weekend. -Brandon
@@jkeelsnc i know dealerships add on to jack up car prices but can do still competitive offers, even on trade ins but i did one dealership which by law they were offer trade in price before inspection but didn't n after they inspected offered less then 8k yet vehicle was value at 20k. As car prices rise, Australia been open market especially Chinese cars, these dealerships are going to face hard times ahead.
dealerships in america are prime examples of why heavy government regulation doesnt work. The end goal changes from "how can we be better than our competition to turn a profit" to " There is no competition, so how can we screw the customer over as much as possible to make as much money as possible".
I think some government regulation is good but what we are seeing is affecting the automotive industry too much. We have to have some regulations, so Homer Simpson's aren't dumping toxic waste into water streams. The dealership model is such a classic example of harm to the industry, I really hope that the model will go away because Tesla right now is bucking the system really hard and I love it. Always a pleasure to see you, my friend. -Brandon
Its a prime example of poor regulation, and a rush job. Law makers only look to solve a single problem, they dont look at legislation from multiple angles to see how it can be misused and abused.
Great video. I tend to be naive, in hoping one day the consumers would be more wise when it came to what they tolerate. Fat chance...I know. To be, I struggle to get why its such a negative experience, becuase I bought 3 new cars in 2022 and one in 2023, and paid no markup, no added etching, or alarms or anything. In fact, two of the cars, I got below MSRP (both were Scat Packs, one a Charger, and wide body, with the red interior, which are very sought after, the other was a narrow body manual Challenger). The other two were very high end models, both at MSRP, A Super Stock and a 1320. The Super Stock took me about 9 hours...but that was due to the banks. I was struggling to get that loan approved, and once done, I raked the dealer over the coals, with a trade in (that I told them after the fact) 14,600 for an 8 year old Camaro, with a bunch of city miles, needing tires, warped rotors, bumpers needing paint, and a few other wear and tear stuff from city driving it daily. Cant complain there. The other cars, were 2 hours for the Charger, 5 hours for the stick (though he became a friend of mine, and two hours of the whole thing were hooning around in his BMW...a beater, but a stick, and a fun car lol). Same with the 1320 that I got from my buddy. That car I ordered. It arrived during the 3 days I worked at the dealership before my body gave out...long story. Long story, people just dont know how to negotiate hard. Or worse, they dont know when to just walk away. It applies to used cars too, dealer or private. I find it fun. But, thats me, and I guess I cant expect people to figure out what they want, do some research on the car, and know what is a deal breaker, and what is tolerable. I guess if youre buying a Kia, youre not going to be excited about looking over options (As another aside, I was getting myself hyped building a Chevy Express..or a GMC Savana. Fun fact, they are IDENTICAL in ever single way, shape and form, color, packages, options, doors, windows, towing, length...except one option. The GMC has an available steering wheel radio volume control stack. The Chevy..you gotta lean over to the radio. Both do have mp3 CD players lol, posi rears, 6.6 V8s. Kinda liking the idea of a red hot rod van lol) Ok...rambling. SOrry, not feeling great (VA poisined me with Chantix and havent slept for 3 days now....I did post my own video regarding Dodge, Tesla, and some pie in the sky ideas...Im nuts, but, when all options have failed, long shots are all thats left) Cheers
Brother, good to see you and sorry about the VA stuff, I know its never a fun time...as I am finding out. I can't imagine how you are feeling about it. You bring up some good points about the negotiating. I think 99% people dislike the process because the perception dealers have but also that most don't do it on a daily basis like them. I personally don't like it because its always such an insulting process and I usually just get annoyed and walk away. Then they call me back. Its always the same process lol...which annoys me more. Just get to the point lol. Especially when I don't have 4 hours to mess around. Time is the most valuable thing for me and I don't waste it. Like ever. You have some really cars man, I hope they are treating you better than the VA. I will give your video a watch tonight man, I love talking with other content creators. -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy Yeah, life being "retired" at under 40...I have the time, but sucks not having a purpose lol. But, I totally get it. I just got lucky to have a good guy thats a salesman. Its why I even chose to try to go back to work despite all the damage to my body. Just so we can hang out and do shenanigans at the dealership lol. But, this is a big problem. Between the UAW, and Feige being an open communist, makes me wonder where thats going. We may come to a point where Ford makes cars, but doesnt sell on the US market to avoid state dealership laws, and get rid of UAW plants. At this point...I dont even know. Yeah, the cars are nice, though right now theyre not running. Batteries are all drained lol. Money is bad...waiting on some things. Its just some batteries grand scheme of things. Right now Im debating on snagging a manual Pontiac GTA...T Tops, pop up headlights, three pedals. lol. If I get you know Ill do a video on that. I miss having a Pontiac.
As a flower child of the 60s, I remember you could walk into any dealership and get what you want. Kids these days don’t need to be spoiled by direct to consumer. Some kid needs to make the commission.
Bradley, unfortunately it seems that the model/idea of getting what you want is fading hard. I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten what I want from a dealer tbh. I’ve always had issues but that could just be my luck 🤣🤣 who knows…how has your experience been lately? -Brandon

@@A-BombEnergy if you could do one on right to repair that would be awesome as a mechanic the manufacture locking you out of vital info is super annoying

If we did away with the dealership model, it would certainly put a lot of people out of work. Especially those who work in finance. Now that would be a shame, wouldn’t it?
Yeah the sales people masquerading as finance...what a shame it would be. I don't want people losing their jobs but the F&I department is not that at all, its literally another version of sales lol. They can pivot to a sales role if manufacturers took over or another model replaced the current one. This middle man stuff has got to go. Its wrecking the consumer and the industry. What do you think bro? I hope you have a great weekend my friend. -Brandon
Lately i’ve really started to wonder why people visit dealerships instead of using Facebook marketplace or buying a car marked for sale on the side of the road.
Yeah man they really only serve one purpose and that’s for new cars. Most people get better deals from their banks on loans too. Facebook loves to give me car recommendations…I’m so close to buying them all the time. UA-cam loves giving me car ads and it works lol 😂. Have you had good luck off Facebook marketplace? I’m considering using it. -Brandon
A few weeks ago I went into my local Ford dealership to test drive a hybrid Maverick I had my eyes on for a while. Didn't like their suggest APR online, but I wanted to see what they drove like, and do some "what if" paperwork. Test drive went great, sales staff was very kind, but the issue was the price, and there was NO negotiating, even on used. Their lot was beyond overflowing, I mean they made a maze of cars, because no one was selling anything. For 4 hours I was the only person on the lot. There were crickets, man. The guy prints out some papers and starts talking to me about pricing, and I see this "dealer" charge of $1,695 just sitting there as "delivery fee." So I asked him what that was and he said "Oh, that's what Ford charges to ship their cars from the plant to the dealership." I was shocked. Ford charges the dealerships, who are literal Ford dealerships, almost 2 grand to just have the cars shipped to them, and then try to pawn that off on the consumer as a "delivery fee"? I said I wanted that dropped, or the conversation was over, and he said Ford doesn't allow them to remove it, it's stuck there. Ridiculous, man. And don't even get me started on the extra $600 charge if I bought the car for Ford's "security" system, that the dealer uses if their cars get stolen, that YOU (the consumer) don't get to use! It's only for them if someone steals the car off their lot! It's deactivated once you buy the car, yet you still have to pay for it! I couldn't believe all the extra garbage and trash they were trying to sell. No wonder their lot was overflowing.
You liked the hybrid Maverick? Not saying thats crazy at all btw, I drove one for a week with the military and I did not like it at all. The constant turning the motor on and off and brake assist thing made me nauseous. How much were they wanting for the pick up truck? I'm kind of shocked they wouldn't negotiate on it. Did they give you a reason? It sounds like you had a typical dealership experience and I am sorry that you had to deal with that and wasted your time. The fact that they were trying to charge you 1695 in a fee that isn't your fault nor should you have to pay is ridiculous. Every dealership seems to be doing this now and if they keep this practice up, they are going to seal their own fate. I had a BMW dealership, tried to charge me around the same price because they put new tires on the car. I told them to put the tires on and I'll get my own tires. Needless to say, they dropped all the ridiculous fees. It sounds like you need to find a new dealership or try to find one from a small town dealership. I have been looking at Facebook marketplace and that seems to be a decent place to buy cars. I have had subscribers tell me that it worked out really well for them too. Maybe that's the future of car purchasing. Or online purchases. If you need any help finding a vehicle, you can hit me up on Instagram. I can take a look online for you if you want. I know the process is really frustrating. Thanks for commenting my friend and I hope you have a great upcoming weekend. -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy So my story actually has a pretty happy ending. After I left the dealership and went home, my wife and I were like "someone's gotta have a used one somewhere." So we looked all over our state at dealerships and found a 2023 Maverick XL with 17k miles on it. Single owner, clean carfax, no issues at all. Seems like we got really lucky. Took it for a test drive the next day, and much to our surprise, they were all about negotiating. Their dealership's slogan was something like "3000 below the competition guaranteed!" so after we told them about our experience at Ford, it gave us some wiggle room. Helped that I took a picture of the paperwork Ford brought me too. That's another thing, the guy said we couldn't take the paper work or they charged him $50 per page? No idea if that's true, but at this point, I sort of believe it. Anyhow, we ended up signing and getting a 6.49 APR (wife has immaculate credit lol) and driving it home next day. 24k. Oh, it also has the tow package included. I know the hybrid can only tow about 2,000 lbs, but for our house and yard projects, it's perfect for us. To your points though, the brake assist thing was nuts, I actually found out there was a button to turn it off right by the traction control buttons, so I instantly turned it off. The Ford dealership was asking 27k for the USED Hybrid I was interested in (no tow package, XL), and 33k for the new (base XL), but they'd have to order it so we would need to wait a few months. Also, they wanted either $1,055 a month for a lease, or 10% APR for financing. No wiggle room, even with my wife's incredible credit. I was floored, dude. My last daily driver was a 2019 Hyundai Kona that I got in 2020, my credit was around 670 at the time, and I got locked in at 4.89. It's insane what dealerships and banks are charging for interest on loans. My wife lives and dies by her Subaru dealership. She's been buying and leasing cars from them for 10 years, and they actually recommended the Ford dealership to us because we wanted either a Maverick or a Bronco, and the Ford was part of their "dealer family." Well turns out, being part of the family meant absolutely nothing. We actually called the Subaru dealership after the experience and they were floored by what I told them, and they even offered to let us check out a Ranger someone had traded in, but it was just a little too pricey for us. Though, we probably would have gone with it if we didn't find the Maverick. I appreciate you offering to help me find a good deal though man! My wife and I love your content, and we hope your channel keeps growing.
You are absolutely correct here, dude. When I was in the market for my BMW M340i, I found a perfect one and the price was amazing. unfortunately, they wired a tracking software into it that is not removable. Which is not smart because BMW installs a antitheft tracking software from the factory. They wanted an extra $1500 from me for that software. What's crazy is that car sat on the lot for four months. What other things have you noticed that they do to ruin the vehicle? -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy poor tint and door guard install, horrible wheel locks, oversized ugly tires. It ruins the car so much. Now, the cars and trucks that have the really bad add ons are sitting unsold at some dealerships.
That's a really really good point, my BMW had an aftermarket tent put on it. It's not bad but it's definitely not factory. My jeep has a factory tint and it looks really good. Thanks for responding to my friend. I always love engaging with you guys in the comments. -Brandon
My opinion... Dealerships should be privately owned, and should only be allowed to charge at most 20% more than what it costs to make, and sell the car. Dealerships should not be allowed to force people to only go through dealerships for repairs, if certified technicians work at shops that should suffice. Mechancis should see 50% of the profits made from vehicle repairs as they are the ones actually doing the work, the garages are just providing a dry space to do the work.
Brother, I don't think anyone would disagree with you on that. I'm not 100% informed on right to repair like most people, but I think the technician aspect you bring up aligns with that. I can tell you right now, I have three recalls on my vehicles and I haven't taken care of them because it's practically impossible to get into the dealership right now. What's crazy is back in the old days mechanics did used to make 50% of what they were charging for hourly rates. Now rates are 120 $200 an hour and mechanics are making $20-$30 an hour at best. Of course you're not gonna get good work done. It's so many mechanics start a dealerships and then open their own shop. -Brandon
Vertically-Integrated operations like Zara have toppled giants like Gap because they were able to gain real time analysis of demand and trends. Just a small part of an operation that killed a giant.
I haven’t heard of Zara but thank you for sharing that with me. It’s something I will look into not only from an analytical standpoint but also has a business owner. Do you think something like that is going to affect the franchise model as well? I’m betting personally that the way we buy and sell cars is going to change. Just a thought though. -Brandon
When I bought my 2021 Ram 1500 last year I got a decent deal and a hassle free experience. 38k for a ram with 9k miles, still under factory warranty, and they certified it to extend the warranty another 4 years. I am the exception tho so you need to be extremely careful
Hey man that’s really awesome to hear! My VW purchase was similar. My BMW and Jeep purchase though…whewwww nope. I know there are some great dealers out there who don’t deserve the stigma they have but they need to build the reputation that they aren’t like that and maybe even run ads showing it. Unless they are owned by a parent company…idk if they would be happy with that. How’s the ram? I just got rid of mine and it was a great truck honestly. -Brandon
The dread of dealerships, salespeople and repair services has led me to become adept at making my own repairs. My equinox is about to hit 200,000 miles and I'm gonna keep learning to keep fixing it myself. I'll drive-fix-drive that thing till she rusts apart before I walk into another dealership.
I am the same way too, brother. I would love to have a mechanic that I trusted to just take my car to, but I have yet to find one. And I will never go to the dealership unless I absolutely have to. That's really cool that you're equinox has so many miles on it. What year is it? Have you had to do anything crazy to keep it running? It always makes me really happy to hear that people have cars with so many miles on it and are willing to put the work in to keep it running instead of just tossing it to the side. It's one of the reasons I rebuilt a 1992 Jeep Cherokee. It's not tagged and registered anymore, but I keep it on my property and use it as like a farm vehicle. Thanks for commenting my friend and I hope you have a great weekend. -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy She's a 2012 model equinox. There's been a fair amount of problems with it. Some I had to bite the bullet and take it in for. Oil system, exhaust leaks, valves and misfires. Overall I'm frankly amazed it runs as good as it does. It feels practically brand new yet. All the electrics and gadgets still work. Just keeping up on routine maintainence make a huge difference. I change the oil religiously.
Chris, isn't that really wild? I talked to a subscriber on here who has one and he says he loves that car. I looked at buying one for my business and they were just too far away to drive to go grab. I ended up settling on a VW Jetta, which I really like and it's a base model with a manual transmission. But I had to drive 4 1/2 hours away to go pick it up. It's why I think the whole decline of sedans is kind of a farce. Are you looking at getting a Nissan versa? I can always try to hook you up with a subscriber that has one. We should have a new amendment forcing Congress to re-vote a law every 8 years, that way it would be easier to get rid of these dated and useless laws like the dealership law, the Chicken tax, and many many others.
That is actually a really good idea. And I'm being dead serious. I get why certain laws and regulations are put into play because sometimes it needs to happen. You don't want a Homer Simpson dumping toxic waste into the water supply so Mr. Burns can save some money lol. But if somethings not working, it should be revised or written off. And I think the dealership model needs to change so everyone will benefit. Even dealers would benefit. I don't think they understand they are hurting themselves by this model. What do you think, brother? Thanks for commenting and I hope you have a great weekend. -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy Also there are a lot of laws that make sense at the moment they were created, but stop making sense in the future, and we need a way to get rid of those outdated laws ASAP.
@@A-BombEnergy I think this is one of the reasons why we live in such a bureaucratic world today, instead of revising our laws and getting rid of the outdated ones or the ones that make no sense. We keep adding more and more new laws every single day, just adding more and more until there're so many rules that nobody is able to understand shit and we can't build anything anymore because it all gets lost at the bureaucracy maze, in a sea of documents and papers. Think about things that we were able to built some decades ago: The Hoover dam, the Golden Gate bridge, the US railway and highway system, the gateway arch, mount Rushmore... Could we do any of those things today without going 20x over the budget and taking 10x more time as initially promised? I don't think so. We're regulating ourselves into a corner.
That's really smart of you, brother. Do you buy from private party or local small town dealerships? That's generally what I tell people to do when they ask me where to get a car. @A-BombEnergy I usually find side of the road deals. My 96 Silverado was $500 7 years ago. My 99 Blazer was $800 8 years ago. Been driving them since. 540,000 miles on the Silverado now. 345,000 on the Blazer. Was contemplating a brand new Trax with half down-payment, but don't really want to deal with a pushy salesman. If I don't get what I want at the interest rate I want with my excellent credit score I'd just turn around and walk out.
That's really awesome to hear, dude. It always makes me really happy whenever I hear people getting a good deal. I mean that. I've seen so many horror stories over the years and it saddens me that someone is capable of doing that to someone else. If you don't mind me asking, what is attracting you to the Trax? -Brandon

If you play their game they can be a value add. I know you talked about no competition due to regions but this is 2024 I can purchase any car off any lot in the entire USA from the comfort of my home. This means there has been a flood of dealers going to the "lifetime powertrain warranty" value add. If you buy new and get it regularly serviced at their shop it will be no questions asked to fix anything which breaks. Even a reliable model like a Honda CRV will likely have issues as they age because they now come with a turbocharged 1.5L four cylinder paired with a CVT. If you are planning on keeping a car for 15-20 years this can be a worthwhile option. Our local Honda dealer (which does the lifetime powertrain warranty) is currently selling an add-on package for something like $3700. You get five years of all maintenance w/ shuttle service + the basic 36mo warranty extended to 60 months. Five years of dealer maintenance on an AWD SUV will probably cost north of $2500 anyway.
Sometimes yes it can be a good thing, absolutely and I’m glad to hear you are having good luck with your Honda dealer. This is very rare these days and it might be region dependent. I’ve always found most dealers were very brutal to deal with, even when you play their game and buy the warranty. It’s smart to buy the warranty I think if you understand things like turbo chargers and overly teched vehicles. I know with my 2024 VW Jetta, I bought a 10 year warranty because I know how this game goes with VWs and turbos. I will say from that experience, aside from the salesman, the experience was very frustrating and solidified my desire to never buy a car from a dealer again. Thanks for commenting my friend and I look forward to our future conversations. -Brandon
David, you hit the nail right on the head. My base model 2024 VW Jetta has more tech than most decked out cars from 10 years ago. I’m just honestly happy I was able to get it in a manual. Do you think we would see massive changes if the tech went away? Thanks again David, I look forward to hearing from you my friend. -Brandon
I completely agree with this dude. I would take the dealership model any day over that lol. It's kind of crazy. I've always grown up in the country and I even live in the country, but I do enjoy the city life from time to time because my business keeps me there. The convenience factor of things is always nice, but nothing beats hopping in a car and driving really far and just relaxing. It's one of the reasons why I own a decent amount of acres. @@A-BombEnergy Being able to do those things is the reason why paying dealerships their asking price is worth every penny. When nothing beats hopping into a car, then dealerships can and should raise their prices. And they have!
i dont even know how to answer that question either. Idk what the solution is... if Manufacturers should sell direct to consumer ... idk.. these things worry me haha , i guess id have to start working for Nissan Canada instead of a dealer
Would that be better if you worked for Nissan Canada instead of a dealer? I feel like working for the corporate entity that has a more vested interest in the brand would be better? But I am a small businessman, and so my mindset is much different than a corporate mindset. -Brandon
@A-BombEnergy well if salesmen ever stop existing in dealers, I won't have much of a choice but to work directly at a manufacturer headquarters or something 😂 BUT I could go to Used Car dealerships also ... but I'm sure that's a whole other issue screwing people left and right. It's hard making an honest living in an industry full of lies!!
Yeah man I totally get it. My other business is an Energy Drink company and while its not a supplement, it kind of gets lumped into it and the fitness industry is full of lies too. Its sad. Have you ever thought of doing something with social media and making a business of your own about your passion? Gary Vee has a good book called Crush It. Maybe you should give it a look? -Brandon
Dealership needs to be abolish. Adopt the Tesla model. That said, in my area, a conglomerate bought out are family owned Chrysler Dealership thst dated back to the days of the Desoto. The family still owns the original building in downtown Clinton Missouri. The new one was out on the highway. We still have a family owned Ford Dealership in Appleton City Mo. Still house in the building designed by Henry Ford and built in 1918. It's called Zink Motors. The building bares the family name. They give tours. The old parts department was upstairs. Now its next door. Its like walking into an old school mechanic shop. 😊 Awesome video. I hate dealers and unless ive got pre-approval from my bank, won't step foot in that hellhold. Rather get married then go there. 😊
I think it’s going to push that way to be honest. Dealerships showed their cards back in 2020 and how far they are willing to go to get money. A lot of people are boycotting them, as they should. I wish I could go to that building and experience that. Something designed by Henry Ford must be pretty cool. Maybe next time I’m in MO I’ll make a special trip to it. Thank you for sharing that with me. And I too never go to a dealership without a pre approval. Thanks for commenting brother 😁 -Brandon
I can't imagine the preconditioning one would put themselves through to endure that BS. Sometimes for fun, I would go into a stealership and "buy" a car. I switched up my angle to see the difference in the experience. Going in with no emotional wants or needs and a disconnected indifference is the way to get your best deal. Those "fees" attached to the cost start to disappear the more it looks like you're going to walk away. When you do finalize the deal, don't give them a dime until you get everything in writing. Because they will try and sneak all those "junk fees" back onto the invoice on the back end. This is great info, adding it to my own gives me even more leverage in a negotiation. For me it is the negotiating that is the best part because I work them over. I imagine I make them feel like they make the other customers feel. And I don't feel the least bit sad about it, car salesmen on a social level rate right there with lawyers and politicians which go hand in hand with grifters, con artists, and confidence men. Were it up to me, I'd fire all lawyers........... Out of cannons over shark infested waters.🤣😂🤣
It's sad because so many people need cars and dealerships lure people in by having a lower price listed on their website. Then when the customer arrives, all the fees start getting tacked on. This happens to me every time except for when I bought my VW Jetta. Luckily, I had a really good salesman who was prior army and didn't even attempt to play those games with me. And I think your model of being emotionally unattached is the best way to do it. I'll admit whenever I bought my BMW M340i I was very attached. I just got back from deployment and it was a depression purchase and the salesman took full advantage of me. I still got a good deal, but he made an extra 500 bucks off of me for sure. They try to tack on a bunch of fees and luckily I was able to get all of them taken off but I could've gotten a better deal if I wasn't so attached. Always a pleasure to see you, brother. -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy Well you now have another round in the chamber if you go to a dealer again. Personally I go to the private used market. Five of the six cars I currently own were paid for out of my pocket, the old truck was given to me by my mom. Those five cars equal $5400 and three of them are Honda Accords all run and drive great. I've worked in some capacity since I was 12 and I've always lived way below my means. So I stacked up some chips, I just wish I knew how or what to invest in, LOL!
I'll admit I've never been the best with my money, but I am learning at this point because of owning a business. Currently reading some books on Toyota and how they ran their company and I am adopting those principles. And yeah, I get having a lot of cars and them not being worth a lot lol. Investing is such a tricky subject, I have had really good success in the past, but I haven't played around lately. -Brandon
I would love to know. I assume it’s because they have added so many layers of sales tactics. You deal with the salesman, then F&I, then registration, then the vehicle breakdown where they show you how to use it. It’s unbelievable. When I bought a car from a local dealer, it took like 1 hour tops. What’s been your experience? -Brandon
Car dealers need to be run like a grocery store. 1) The dealer buys the vehicles at wholesale prices. 2) The vehicles are sold at retail prices. 3) Dealers can sell the vehicles at a discounted price at their discretion. 4) Selling at over retail price is forbidden. 5) Dealers earn more through service work, parts, and repeat customers.
This would such a better model than what we have now brother. Thanks for sharing that Dave. What I find wildly interesting is the amount of rules manufacturers set on dealers and it sadly causes more problems between the dealer-manufacturer relationship. I think we are at a point where the string just needs to be cut. All parties would benefit from this. Competition is always a good thing for everyone and gives people a sense of purpose. It’s always a pleasure to hear from you Dave. -Brandon
Sadly, dealerships will get away with markups because the manufacturers will get blamed. People may say that manufacturers choose dealerships, but that’s not true. They can choose areas, but once they choose the area, they are limited in available dealership choices.
You hit the nail on the head brother, people always love to blame the manufacturer, which they are partly responsible but not fully. I personally would love the out the door price of a lot of the new cars. While still expensive, it’s better than the out the door price from the dealer. I can’t tell you how much dealers have tried to overcharge me. Has this also happened to you my friend? -Brandon
Yeah brother I hear you on that. I wish when I was younger I did that. I’ve always been a snob 🤣 when I shouldn’t have been. What’s the best one you’ve bought so far? -Brandon
Here in Germany, my "current" Car was covered all over with 3x3 inch advertising Metalplaques/Crest's from the Car dealership. On the fenders, at the rear, at the front of the Radiator Grille. The first thing I said to the seller was "Before i grab the Keys these stickers are coming off". He said "That is not so easy" . I responded: Ok then feel free to leave the Plaques on if you will pay me 100€/month for advertising costs. Your Boss as Car Dealer can deduct this Costs from his taxes. He said: "Will be taken down". I said: Hopefully without any Scratches. Secondly: I don't pay any transfer costs, because I'm not the person who wants to SELL a car. How you get your Hands on that Car doesnt matters to me. I want to have a BRANDNEW CAR scratching free around where the Plaques were and also without anyone smearing any rubbish on the paint. If my words doesnt count, I'll go back home. I said i willn not become any bad feelings over all. So he gave me a boot and said there are more interested partys. He called me back a Week later if i am still interested in the Car. i said shure but 1k less for the Boot. He laughed loud and called my a Thief - and invited me to come over for a Cup of Coffee - to sign that freaking Contract.
Hi from America! I will be in your country next month too for work. US Dealers do the same thing too with the badging, I remove all of that garbage because why would I advertise for them? Makes no sense. Glad you are in the same camp as me 🤣. Did you end up getting that car? Sounds like you may have gotten a better deal than you expected? I hear in Germany people lease cars over buying them? Is this still the case? -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy Leasing is still largely and mostly a corporate thing over here. It is unprofitable for private individuals due to the final rental sum calculation. No matter how well you maintain a leased car, they will always find something that can destroy your bank account with additional claims. There is always a big rip-off at the end of the lease. I know almost no one who is happy with their previous attempt at leasing a car. They all looking to get out of this Treadmill to End this game as quickly as possible instead of leasing the next car from the lot. (Which seems cheaper at first glance, but will send you way more down the Payment Spiral) This game will lead to insanity and an unbearable monthly bill. In my experience, you initially start financing a car with a larger down payment. (Bank loan or saved money). Personally, I initially gave/bid 20,000 and fully finance the Rest down to “0” over a period of 72 months. At the end of the 4th year the Title will be sent to me automatically. But here too, prices are constantly rising and the cost of living is also rising. The used car market in this country is currently rather weak, which is driving up prices. So with a bit of luck I'll be doing pretty well after 4 years if I want to sell. Private individuals as well as companies drive their cars through their entire lifespan because they no longer feel like signing overpriced financing for a car again. Companies maybe after 4 years. Because companies no longer list 1-year cars, many “private new cars” are missing. Many people buy a “new car” when it is 1 year old - usually company cars. This means that all defects and errors from production are already eliminated under warranty and the car is fit for its lifetime. As I said, this is blowing up the used car market.
Yep, I got tired of dealerships. Now I have a Tesla and it was a great buying experience. No sales people, all online, no finance guy trying to add on things...
I bet the process of buying your Tesla was really awesome and easy. Did you do the order straight online or did you go to the Tesla "dealership"? I love how they do that whole process. You aren't going to get an amazing deal, but you're also not going to get rinsed either. Probably makes it so much less stressful. Thanks for commenting my friend and I hope you have a great weekend. -Brandon
Nice man, I am glad to hear that. I wouldn't mind an EV but I commute too far every day and literally there are no chargers in my area lol 😂 my former boss had one and that poor guy struggled to get home most days. Glad its working for you man. -Brandon
The only problem with Teslas is that one they don't have enough range to go on a trip, two they about 4 to 5 hours just to charge the stupid things, and three they lack soul and character as well.
Hi! It’s me again! I’ve just driven through New York City and noticed the absurdly high toll prices. I’m wondering if you think tolls and other fees of that sort also have an effect on car sales? Since it creates another hoop that people have to jump through. Love to hear your thoughts!
Hey brother good to see you again. Yes, NY has horrible tolls. I’ve driven through there a few times and couldn’t believe what I paid. I would say they may not raise the actual sale price of a car but they certainly raise cost of ownership. If the market was functioning properly, tolls would actually incentivize manufacturers and dealers to lower prices because the threshold of vehicle ownership would be getting out of hand. But it’s also regional as some states barely have any tolls and some that are in the North East are riddled with them. What are your thoughts on that brother? -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergyHonestly I agree! One more suggestion, if it doesn’t seem too presumptuous, I’d love to see a video about how ownership costs factor into the car market and how it can affect people. I usually notice broad topics like these tend to perform better because of the wider audience. I think new viewers would like your matter of fact presentation and how you get straight to the point!
Hey brother thanks so much for the suggestion and I will add that to the list. This is why you guys are so awesome, you are always suggesting amazing video content ideas. This one sounds like a super great idea and I love it. I appreciate your compliments and I will ALWAYS strive to increase quality and production. If I don't, call me out on it brother. Thanks again my friend. -Brandon
sure if i want a used car but what about new cars. i should be able to buy straight from manufacturer or a distributor like amazon with no added extra fees unless i want them.
Yeah brother, that seems to be the call. Only downside is if you want a new car. I always advise people to buy private or from a local small town dealer. I have always had good luck that way. I have met some of the most honest people during that process. Its quite a shock honestly. Thanks for commenting Mathias, its always appreciated seeing regulars. -Brandon
Tim, I don't think anyone would disagree with you on that. Its really sad because I know some awesome people that work at dealerships. My last salesman was great, but everyone else in the process was not. I hope there will be some changes in the industry soon. Tesla is leading the way. What do you think of Teslas dealership model? -Brandon
Dealerships make so little on new cars they barely even let you buy them outright, they will try as hard as possible to convince you to lease. When I bought my Blackwing I had to fight with the financial manager to let me buy it outright, wild business practice.
Are you serious? That is insane to me. They make a little bit off of new cars, but the majority of their profit is used cars, repairs, and loans. I'm sorry to hear that you had to argue with them to let them sell it to you outright. That's just a poor business and I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Are you happy with the car though? -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy Lol no I sold it 3 months later, lost an ass load of money. They don't let you test drive cars like that so you just kinda gotta hope you like it. I've been trying to get a Z06 allocation for 3 yrs with no luck also, GM has just been living rent free in my head lol.
Man brother sorry to hear that you lost money on it. I know that feeling all too well lol 😂 that ZO6 is really cool too, if you get that, let me know and I would love for you to make a video on it. -Brandon
“Why can’t Honda just do the online model like Ford and Tesla?” Have you ever considered that American government will provide exemptions for American brands? This is what other American companies like Boeing have gotten called out for
Has the government given exceptions to American car brands? If so, I’m not tracking that but I appreciate you putting that piece in my brain housing group. -Brandon 🫡
@@A-BombEnergy it’s simply a possibility. When it comes to other American companies like Boeing, the government doesn’t explicitly say they gave them an exemption
So uncompetetive, il stick to buying directly from people instead, less paper work, less stress, bring cash and its yours, so manu people just want to get rid of old cars taking up space for the newer model, that stuff led to there being so many 70s musclecars around cheap, and now its 2000s and 90s and 10s but 10s have too much tech bs tacked on. Its no wonder people dont like stealerships
Absolutely brother and you make really good points here. I bet here pretty soon...A lot of really cool muscle cars are going to be super cheap. @@A-BombEnergy i got one as a project car a bit over a year ago for around 2 grand, cant really complain for the price and a 30k mile new engine, gives me time to worry about the suspension and then ready for transmission, overall cheap grocery getter and cheap project car to have, going for a truck next before the prices go up too much but the market is great, cheap parts, easy to repair, not going over 4 digits in cost. ive had more trouble with 2010s vehicles and all the sensors that require more specialized equipment for maintenance, the way its going wont be too long before only a "professional" can work on headlights with all the funky sensors.
Hey, It's me again. Still not done with the animation because things are not working. But still trying my absolute best. But... I'm off topic here. So, if we are going to talk about dealerships, Almost always, ALMOST ALWAYS, befriend some of the people there. I am ultimately getting a new car and my mother is friends with many of the people. If you can't befriend them, well, there is always used cars. However, sometimes they will be just as expensive as new ones, and it is almost guarantee to spend at least 1k on checkups. I keep looking around on the good old Facebook Marketplace because the cars, are fixable. But mom doesn't think I can fix up an old 1991 Mercedes S580 or something like that. But well, it sucks that it's like this... overpay, overthink, and under promise.
Don’t give up on the animation, watch tutorials and start small until you understand the concepts. It takes time, everything worth doing is hard. And yes, if you can make a friend at a dealer that will always help. Sometimes it doesn’t because salesmen don’t have the power we think they have, which is sad. That older Mercedes would be really cool. Best part about that is that it’s not too old but it’s also not riddled with wild amounts of tech like the new ones. I think you’ll have a good time with whatever vehicle you get. 😁 -Brandon
Isnt dealer laws the reason GM needed to split their trucks into Chevy and GMC? I remember vaguely reading about that years ago but cant find the original source. Something about too many chevy dealers in a specific range of eachother would violate some sort of monopoly law
Ah my friend, good to see you again! And I do believe you are correct. I think it’s one of the reasons Pontiac was actually taken away too, aside from the other main reasons. I tried doing a quick search and couldn’t find a finite answer but it makes sense honestly. -Brandon
Dylan, there have definitely been some for sure. New Jersey did one in 2014 which I kind of cited in the video. But I have seen others floating around as well. Have you had any bad experiences at car dealerships brother? Always a pleasure to see you. -Brandon
Sheldon, I don’t think that is a bad method AT ALL. I think next car I purchase will be from an individual. Even dealerships know they aren’t doing well which is why they are encroaching on places like FB Marketplace. Have you ever purchased from an individual? What’s been your experience at dealerships? Thanks for commenting Sheldon. -Brandon 🫡
Drinking a Gorilla Mind today, might even have another while I repair my driveway from the hurricane that put a 10 foot hole in it lol. What about you? -Brandon
If it is a big price above what you thought you were going to pay then you walk away. Simple. And the required franchise model is garbage, it should be rightfully ruled out and direct to consumer can be an option.
John, yeah man it’s brutal what they try to do. When I bought my BMW they tried that and I started to walk out and they quit playing the silly games. It’s honestly embarrassing to watch them do that tbh. Like really? Imagine running a business and immediately trying to scam someone from the start and still expect a sale? I could never run my business that way. Thanks for commenting John, it’s always a pleasure. -Brandon 🫡
Hahaha but then we have to pay massive import fees! Its so annoying lol. I looked at importing a BMW wagon to the US and WOW the cost was insanity. -Brandon
Move metal, exactly. It’s one reason I always look how long a car has been on a lot or for sale because they will be more prone to sell. It doesn’t help when they finance every car on their lot too…-Brandon
100% brother, i simply don’t know what purpose they serve anymore. I used to love going to the dealerships to look at cars and talk to employees there. But it hasn’t been like that in such long time. I don’t like that I know more about the vehicle than the salesman….the passion is simply gone. What’s your experience been like? -Brandon

hi I'm from Quebec so I'm going to do my best with my English :) yes it's a good car but it has several faults here are the worst the car is too small I'm 177cm tall and I'm at the max. the suitcase... it just doesn't have one... the 18 inch tires knock too hard I broke a wheel and I'm on a 16 inch now another problem is the water in the doors you have to remove the rubber to drain the water I have a direct shift cvt model. for me it doesn't run fast enough the engine consumes a lot of gasoline city 10/100km and on the road 7/100km also poor rear visibility. the engine is a 2.0L and runs on a very expensive 0w16. for the cvt it is impossible to change the fluid yourself I recommend a Corolla with the 1.8L and is less complicated and less expensive also I have the audio version plus and it doesn't play well. At night I see the LED lights very poorly on the left side. all the things I said everyone has the same problem it's a beautiful car but nothing else. a mazda 3 is just as good a car and more space and more comfortable so if you buy corolla hatch you have nice shock and nice look but that it
I've recently been seing alot of Honda dealer ads in my area, this is a few weeks after hearing that all the Hondas are now shit so I laugh at said ads knowing their on damage control now. 3 weeks ago I saw a Honda Accord being put on a flatbed tow truck and said to the lady I heard the new Hondas are now Junk and she said it was a 2019. Now even that Japanese cars are junk and they are charging premium prices.
What is going on with Honda right now? I have been following the Toyota disaster lately, but I am unaware of what's going on with Honda 🤣. It's really sad to see a lot of these legacy Japanese companies start to fall in reliability and durability. All they had to do was just keep doing what they were doing and people are going to buy. Make minor adjustments that make the process/product better for the consumer and sales will continue to increase. What do you think is going on with the automotive industry? -Brandon
@@rtcturnemup7028 Yea that wouldn't surprise me. I think this whole battery powered car push (not giving them the name "electric vehicles" when they are just glorified golf carts with an iPad touch screen thrown in) is due to energy star standards resulting in more efficient power usage which also results in less money for the electric companies so they lobby government officials to push for battery powered cars to make up for the lost profits since the early 90's . Just follow the money!
Yeah brother I don’t disagree with that. Some I feel really bad for because they are good dudes but can’t be that kind of salesman the managers want them to be. Tesla isn't the only choice if you want to cut the dealer out. Volvo will sell directly to you for 5% under MSRP and fly you to Sweden to pick your car up at their factory. I've done it, it's a great program. Only way I am ever buying a car going forward.
I love that Volvo does that. It’s such a great way to not only provide a good experience but it’s a great business model. Might pay more because of it but a lot of people just want to feel important/valued. I’m glad to hear you had a good experience. Did you have to pay a tariff or import fee? What did you get? -Brandon

Prices haven’t really changed in over 50 years…in real terms. Nominally yes. I have a 1971 mustang my father bought new for 3,319$ or as he told me roughly 2 years wages if you were at the bottom. If I look up a modern mustang what do you know 2 years wages if you make minimum wage in my state. If you use this metric of how many years wages it would take someone to buy a quadcab truck back in the 30’s and compare it to now they’ve actually gotten cheaper. There was a reason why back in the day only government agencies like the forestry service bought a quadcab truck.
I would be very interested to see what type of calculation you were using to come to that conclusion. I am not saying you were wrong at all. I am genuinely curious. Because the research and calculation that I have been using shows that car prices have almost doubled when compared to even simple stuff like inflation calculators, that's not even factoring in value of the actual dollar. But if you have something, I would love to learn from you if you are willing to show me. And that 1971 Mustang is really awesome. Is it still running and driving? -Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy I’m a geologist that works with gold not an economist by trade. In some ways that works in my favor in avoiding the bias towards the Keynesian school of thought. I wouldn’t mind talking about it but anytime I elaborate on this topic in other car videos beyond my initial comment my response gets censored. Certain words trigger UA-cam. The mustang still runs. My father was a mechanic since the late 60’s and kept it pristine. He sold it to me for the same 3,319 he paid for it to teach me a lesson on money. He was a silver bug.
I'm afraid you only saw the picture through one lens, and simplified a very complicated business model. The dealership model is great for automakers. It removes the stress of actually selling cars while lowering operation costs. For any business this is a huge friction point. Think of it as Macdonald and it's franchises. They're all over the world, but Macdonald doesn't have to spend a dime ensuring they're operational. For car manufacturers, they make more selling to dealerships than directly to consumers. So actually, it is the manufacturers and insane regulations screwing over dealerships. Who in turn have to find creative ways to increase their bottom line. For instance if you're BMW, and realize you made your X2 too ugly that no one is buying it. If you were selling it directly to consumers, you'd be left with a huge inventory. But with dealerships, you can let them have 50 of your hot selling X3s but they must take 5 of the ugly X2s. Your inventory problem goes away. Now it's the dealer's problem to figure out how to sell those X2s. The manufacturer already has its profits. This dealership model is so lucrative, manufacturers do it in countries without the same regulations as in the USA. I live in Kenya, and we have similar dealerships. Infact, If I try to order a car through a manufacturer's website, they'll send me to a dealership. That's why I think Tesla will join a dealership eventually, the hassle of selling cars is too much for any manufacturer. It helps them prevent overproduction, get their money upfront and don't worry about selling the car. Think of it as selling magazines. It's the exact same business model.
The answer always boils down to government regulations, to me its not only dealers but also things like safety standards or CAFE in america's specific case, you cant buy something like a base 93 honda accord with a reinforced chassis and crash structure that passes crash tests even if it were made because you also need to add an unnecesary amount of airbags and complex, expensive and easy to break electronics to baby the driving experience. I daily drive a base model 206 SW from 2006, i have exactly 0 driving aids, not even abs, the car is light as a feather, yet its stable even at highway speeds, im pretty sure that brand new with a revised chassis, a car like mine could be sold for 10k without taxes or dealer markups, and even lower if you were able to get it from the factory.
I do think we need some regulations just to prevent people like Homer Simpson from dumping toxic waste into water streams. But mandatory things like back up cameras and TPMS sensors are insane. My base model 2024 VW Jetta has more tech in it than a decked out 2016 Ford Explorer. I don't believe in mandating all of that tech. Personally, I have disabled as much tech in it as I possibly can because I want to be in control of the car. How many miles does your car have on it? And yeah, I bet if we took older, successful models like the Corolla, accord, civic, Camry, and even some American ones like the Taurus they would sell really well and for a cheap price. The more I am involved in the automotive industry, the more I realize people are really shopping with price at this point. It's making the market rip for Chinese cars to come in. And personally, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. What do you think, brother? -Brandon
Absolutely brother. I always tell people whenever they need to get a car to go third-party or used. Sometimes you can get a really good deal at a local small town dealership. Do you always buy used? Thanks for commenting Ethan and I hope you have a great weekend. -Brandon

When the new Corvette Z06 came out it was selling for about $130,000 and I saw dealerships taking advantage of the limited number and demand of the cars, price gouging the price up to $300,000 or more.
-Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy
You can get a C-8 for $90,000 or a C-5 for $20,000 and make it an absolute track weapon.
-Brandon
Did you account for inflation?
@@riddell26
Sure did, if you adjusted for inflation all the way back to the late 60s early 70s Mnium wage would be between $20-$30 an hour.
-Brandon
I remember a dealership tried selling me auto start on my car. Then realized when I got home. It already had it installed. Dodged that one.
That's why they should be called "stealerships"
-Brandon
It makes a lot of sense for the few that benefit from them.

-Brandon

Larger dealerships are professionals at rinsing people. not to knock you but a bit of research would have told you infiniti is one of the most depreciating cars in the market. its only bought by people who refuse to drive a non-luxury car but cant get approved for better luxury brands. they sell for terrible prices on the used market. If you bought one new or close to new you should have seen the negative equity coming.
One of the reasons I make these videos is because I want to change the industry for the better so then people like me and you can continue to always be around cars and be around an industry that we love. Jacob, good to see you brother and thanks for compliments. You always pump me up. Dealers could do so much better if they wanted to, they just don't want to run a lean model. A simple bypass of this whole scheme is to buy third party.
It took over a month for them to register the vehicle because they tried some weird way. They also gave me the wrong car and did all the paperwork wrong. My salesman was great.
Never get an extended warranty they will go to extreme lengths to not honor it
Hey here’s an idea instead of dropping 4K on the warranty what if you put that money in a mutual fund and so when the time comes to replace your radio it’ll hurt a lot less
There's a saying, we have in the military, always examine the second and third order effects of every action and decision you make. -Brandon
I was struggling to get that loan approved, and once done, I raked the dealer over the coals, with a trade in (that I told them after the fact)
14,600 for an 8 year old Camaro, with a bunch of city miles, needing tires, warped rotors, bumpers needing paint, and a few other wear and tear stuff from city driving it daily.
Kinda liking the idea of a red hot rod van lol)
Ok...rambling. SOrry, not feeling great (VA poisined me with Chantix and havent slept for 3 days now....I did post my own video regarding Dodge, Tesla, and some pie in the sky ideas...Im nuts, but, when all options have failed, long shots are all thats left)
Cheers
-Brandon

-Brandon
not at all!!!!!!!LOL!!!!!
The doc fee in the finance office is absolutely insulting.
I had a dealer one time try to charge me 1500 for a doc fee. I laughed and started to walk out and they immediately took it off.
-Brandon
@@A-BombEnergy
So my story actually has a pretty happy ending.
Some dealerships are so bad that they actively ruin the vehicles they sell with poorly installed cheap add ons
Just keeping up on routine maintainence make a huge difference. I change the oil religiously.
Nissan makes a standard shift Versa, but no dealer will order it. None have it. Can't buy it...
Completely agree her brother. Let's hope we see some change here pretty soon. -Brandon

-Brandon
Simply 3 reasons. Way to much expensive tech. Union wages big corp profit...
-Brandon
Most Americans would consider walkable 15-minute cities, public transportation, and bicycle lanes to be far worse than the current dealership model.
I completely agree with this dude. I would take the dealership model any day over that lol. It's kind of crazy. @@A-BombEnergy Being able to do those things is the reason why paying dealerships their asking price is worth every penny. When nothing beats hopping into a car, then dealerships can and should raise their prices. And they have!

Awesome video.
Thanks for commenting brother 😁

-Brandon
Why does car buying take so many hours?

-Brandon

-Brandon
