Tekken 5 was where I actually decided "Ok, switching from Law to Jin" I still remember coming home from school one day and seeing a piece of mail from my dad's best friend who was basically another uncle, addressed to him (my dad) and it was T5. Me and my older sister spent so much time playing it. My sis basically did a boss rage againat Jinpachi with Asuka for HOURS trying to beat him on i think Normal Mode? She came back another weekend, put it on Ultra Hard and beat him in 1 go. The expression on her face was priceless
I don’t really play fighting games anymore, but Tekken 5 was the only fighting game where my brother and I played through every single character’s story to get their endings. It was the most I had ever played a fighting game. At this point, Tekken is the only fighting game I still occasionally dabble in casually. I’m not sure if I can play it competitively anymore, but it’s always been one of the most fun games to mess around in.
This is definitely the favorite Tekken game for me. Spent hours playing this and the arcade versions of Tekken 1,2 and 3 and loved absolutely loved the Devil Within mini game
I remember playing this game alongside Battlefront 2 everyday after school on the ps2. I’ve given up on fighting games at this point in my life but I thoroughly enjoy watching Max breaking things down for every fighting game he plays. And I enjoy it even more when he pulls up the nostalgia titles from growing up.
One thing that i always like to point out when talking T5 is how it did everything right and managed to be the success it is despite all odds. It came after a failure both commercial and in public perception with T4, and did so in an era where other FGs were IN THE GUTTER after the golden era of the 90's. Neither SF nor KoF were doing well, MK was doing OK in its 3D era and only VF could be considered a success, but in the mid 2000's T5 was a powerhouse
VF was actually doing great, VF4 had sold more than any other VF game and was a commercial and critical slam dunk for SEGA. But yea SF, KOF, and MK were struggling at the time for sure.
You're right! My memory faltered a bit as i thought VF4 didn't do that well compared specifically to VF5, but both had pretty good launches. It's hard to get absolute sales data on them, but VF4 getting around a million units is much more than i remembered! A shame that it lost to T4 in fighting game of the year though. I really hope whatever sega is doing right now is a success, VF deserves so much more
One of the best games period. So much content and everything was awesome! So many modes, mini games, Tekken 1-3 included, so many iconic locations and tracks..
Nostalgic Vibes, Memories, Childhood, Tekken 4 and 5 have a special place in my heart and soul, these both Tekken games in my eyes are like the symbol of Yin&Yang☯️ ✌️
Max sums it up perfectly. Tekken 4 felt so alien to me back then. I loved Tekken 3's direction so much and thought THAT was what Tekken is supposed to be. Didn't get that feeling again until I got my hands on Tekken 5.
I didn't start with T5, but it's THE most nostalgic game for me right next to Tag. I don't even know why, I'm just super fond of it. I remember the opening, the character interactions which were sometimes weird, the music, and of course, being super hyped once it was upgraded to Dark Resurrection because it brought back Armor King and hot damn I loved it. It was basically all I played on my PSP. Literally the only fighting game on a portable console that I could actually play just for fun. Man, this game is a gem. It had the right amount of goofy and serious, and when I think of Tekken and its tone as a series, this is it. T5 just perfected it. Also, yes. Yes it did have Bowling. On the PSP. I played a ton of that too lmao. Also introduced Ghost Battle and sending and downloading ghosts before T8.
Tekken 5 is just one big fond memory to me. Grew up on Tekken 2 & 3 but not the biggest gamer at the time, and, TTT1 and Tekken 4's marketing was so much smaller, I thought the franchise had died but I remember one day walking into one of my local game stores and saw a big cardboard cutout of Jin with Tekken 5 plastered on it, you can't imagine how excited I was. I can't even imagine the amount of hours I put into 5. Everything about the story, music, customization and offline mode was just iconic.
This is the Tekken that set the bar for all Tekkens after this. The literal measuring stick for Tekken Games to come. Also the tekken that put more spotlight on Juggling which resulted to the bounce system in Tekken 6.
Dude that intro just bought me back to 2007 when I just got tekken 5 as a kid. Would wake up early every morning to play and would watch the into EVERY SINGLE TIME. Such nostalgia
This game was my childhood, I used to play it with my older brother all the time, I got to Tekken God with Paul and King. I remember my nickname was, Jaguar-King$. Thanks to this game, I defend Tekken as the definitive fg franchise.
Man I still have my 1st Tekken Card for T5 DR with me. I still remember the the Ranks, the Win/Lose Stats, even the grind for gold to buy Customizations. This is the Tekken that taught me how to break Throws since I can't really do throw break in TTT. The arcades was wild back then.
My first Tekken game was TTT1 and then T4. But when I played T5 for the first it was so special to. That intro, the characters, the soundtracks, the modes etc. That game introduced me to the first 3 Tekken games. Like it was/still is my everything to me. My fav Tekken game ever. PS: I‘m very excited for the king of iron fist tournament 8 next Friday. It’s gonna be crazy 💯
This is the one we’ve waited for. I’ve been playing this the past couple weeks and this was by far the most complete entry In the series. I remember being a child, now I’m a man with a wife and a son who’s a sophomore and another who’s 9. No matter what….this is the entry that always acts as a portal to relive those days where you were a carefree child with not a care in the world for that small moment. Thank you Tekken 5. 🙏🏽
My first tekken was tekken 2 as a kid. I would just play casually along with 3. Then i bought 4 and played that casually as well, it wasnt until tekken 5 DR that i took tekken seriously and learned a lot. Prior to t5 i thought just knowing the 10 hits combos made you good, tekken 5 molded me and to me it's still the greatest tekken of all time. The characters, the boss which is still the best final boss in tekken history despites frustrating players (his theme was also the greatest), the addition of online play and character customization, the soundtrack, the gameplay, tekken 5 is undefeated.
Max, can i say, you have to be the best video game content creator on the entire internet. Your content is informative, entertaining, and heart felt. You pour your heart and soul into these videos, and streams and we notice. We appreciate and love you Max!!
Tekken 5 was my first foray into playing fighting games competitively. I had a dorm mate who was incredibly skilled with Steve Fox, and we played so many sets together that I eventually rose to his level with my Bryan Fury. We went and played small tournaments at an arcade in Biloxi (right before Katrina), and I loved it. Whenever I find a Tekken 5 arcade machine, I just have to play it. Legendary game. Also, Moonlit Wilderness. Best fighting game BGM of all time.
Played T5 everyday back in High-School and College days. This is what got me to watch and learn combos from different sources. I remember my friend showing me videos of MadDogJin and really changed how we played Tekken. This will go down as one of the best and life changing fighting game of my life!
Tekken 5 was the first Tekken I played in arcades. I previously played Tekken 1 and 3 on my PSX so going to T5 was so different to me at the time. Also, I know Yoshi is usually low tier in games but he felt great in 5. Loved playing as Yoshi.
Tekken 5 is still my favorite Tekken to this day! Just everything about it is so damn good and it gave us one of the most notorious final bosses in fighting games with Jinpachi! It is just so damn awesome!
A little late, but I just gotta say. This game saved me... It sounds weird. I was 13. Going through some really bad and depressing stages. It all hit me at once. I was failing school, trying to fit in somewhere, was getting into petty and pointless fights, arguing with everyone even though I was wrong. It was bad. But this game. Really saved me. I bought this game with my own money, from mowing lawns and getting allowance in March of 2005. Saved up enough money and decided to buy this game. And it helped me through those rough stages. Instead of fighting in real life, I was taking my aggression out on virtual characters. I did eventually start passing my classes, maybe that had nothing to do with Tekken 5, but in so many ways this game helped me. All-time favorite Tekken game.
What I loved so much about the character designs in Tekken 3, were just how proportionate all the characters were! They weren’t all overly bulky and muscular like in the modern games Tekken 7 and 8.
The gameplay felt more realistic too. Call me a boomer but I liked the chippy jabby fights rather than jugglefests T8 pushes for. T8 plays more like MVC2, fun game but not what I play Tekken for. I totally get they have to innovative and mix it up, Tekken 7 had a good balance I feel but T8 really rubs me the wrong way. I wanted to try learn Paul but he looks like a creepy crackhead now with a Karen haircut. Law having nunchucks is a cool idea but the excessive amout of chains and the roids are just over the top stupid. Yes Tekken has always had over the top stuff in it but the characters felt relatively grounded save like 4 wacky characters.
Not just the greatest Tekken game ever made, simply put one of the greatest fighting games ever made next to King of Fighters 98 and Guilty Gear X2: Accent Core Plus.
Tekken 3 was my intro to Tekken growing up, but Tekken 5 was THE Tekken for me. My mother bought it for my birthday and I sunk so many hours into that game. The graphics were crazy for the time. I miss this era in gaming.
Here's a question for everyone, would you want to see a Tekken Tag Tournament 3 in the near future? A game where literally every character from Tekken 1, all the way to Tekken 8 and the spinoff games appear in one massive Tekken game?
Tekken 5 was the tekken to bring me back to loving the franchise, I still remember when I went to my local boomers and only spent my time at the tekken 5 arcades they had there! Before that I had played Tekken 4 on my dad’s ps2 with my sister but it would be years until that day I got to experience Tekken 5. Devil Jin was so cool to me especially, such a good game fr
You're not wrong but has ther ever been ANYONE we've seen that he's done right by? I mean Kazumi and Hachi SEEMED to get along well enough in what little we saw of them, but I feel like considering all the bastards Hachi's got running around since... did ALL of that just start after her death? I claim skepticism.
The question now is: Can 8 surpass this? Because with 7 was an obvious no since the beginning, but with 8… there are chances, it looks and feels so damn good.
tekken 8 ai its pretty bad.. the single player its not as good a tekken 5,, so i don't think it will.. also the game is so far beyond to what it used to be,, i don't like the new battle systems,, supers,, heat,, all of that ,, ,,, i rather play old school pure tekken 5
@@Jonny93warriors a valid opinion, personally I loved all the new mechanics, it feels refreshing and exciting and I can’t see a bad AI, but it’s possible, I’m not an expert player neither.
@@albertocordobesrodriguez8296 i refer to how the ai is when playing single player modes,, tekken 5 ultra hard was actually challenging, you didn't need online back them to have fun with the game,, cause the games as a package did offer you a full expencience .. tekken 8 ultra hard is a joke,, there is no challenge there,, online is basically the only option and its sad,,as a casual the Ai to me is very important .. tekken 7 started the trend of having bad ai on tekken games,, on 6 and before it was great
@@Jonny93warriorsEhh, I kinda feel like Tekken needed some supers, and like some meter stuff like heat in some way. Especially to freshen it up. That's just me though.
I remember always having a PS2 controller in my backpack when I went to the mall so I could plug it into the arcade cabinet (since I couldn't ever get joysticks to do what I wanted as well as pad). Good times!
I hate the fact that the only time Namco tried to do something fresh and risky with Tekken 4, it had such a huge backlash, that after success of T5 they refused to ever change anything at all and the rest of the games feel like T5.2, T5.3 etc. Even "get ready for the next battle" screens are still the same 20 years after. But T5 was iconic for sure.
Tekken 4 has some cool impact feeling from hits, I don't know how to put it, like, every hit in combo feels separate, thats why I personally prefer T4 gameplay.
Tekken 5 DR on the PSP is genuinely one of the best games ever made.. Basically a full upgraded Tekken 5 game on the go made my childhood so much better.. I played Tekken 5 on PS2 many years later and it didn't hit the same, the soundtrack and missing characters felt so off
Imagine being 5 years old going to daycare on a weekend being all sad because there’s nothing to do, and no other kids are there. Then one of the sitter’s teenage son walks in with his friends and a PS2. You’re a good noodle, so you get to hang with the big kids and you’re blessed to witness Tekken 5 for the first time. From that day forward every time he brings his ps2 you and him play for hours. You then convince your dad to get the game for yourself but, you forgot you don’t own a memory card. You then go and unlock every Character 3 times before you eventually get a card. I’m 24 this year and it brings a tear to know that one faithful day impacted my love for fighting games.
Funnily enough, Tekken 5 was my very first Tekken. Saw an ad for it on the back of Xenosaga Episode 2's instruction booklet, and then found it SOMEWHERE by chance. Once i got it, i remember playing it all day every single day. It's easily my favorite of all the Tekken games.
This was my second Tekken game and I have so many good memories attached to it. Pretty sure I was only 12 when I played this game, but it solidified my love for the series. Fantastic game.
Tekken 5 was my most played game on PS2. I can not express how much joy this game brought me when I had friends over for the weekend to play tekken and eat pizza.
I have fond memories of playing 5 and 5 DR and everyone being stoked about the card system and being able to customize your character. I think i still have my card somewhere in my room
DR on the PSP was the first Tekken game i properly got in to, id played others in arcades and at friends houses but DR is when i fell in love with the series
So many memories with this game, my older sister bought this game for me and the darn disc was missing so we had to go back and get another copy at a walmart, mind you this was early 2000s walmart and this game was the main game displayed, freaking game was worth the trouble lmao
While I played it on the ps2, it was the psp version where I played it religously. Some co-workers and me used to play it everyday after work. Awesome times
I remember playing with my cousin, he always gets annoyed coz i always pick Moonlit Wilderness stage, I really love that stage great ambiance , the music and the giant moon on the background that really motivated me, I was almost undefeated whenever I play that stage
Man...that intro gets me every fucking time. Tears and chills without fail any time I ever see it. This game for me, probably like a lot of people, is where your Tekken journey began. I played Tekken 3 in arcade for a little bit when I was some 6 years old and had it on Playstation, but fighting games weren't my thing back then. Tekken 5 though, I was much older, had siblings and friends, and everyone was playing it! As someone who spent tons of hours on the PS2 version, I didn't know they existed until Tekken 6.
@@w21aaaaa I was about to say, there was a whole different discs worth of DLC, they just didn't call it that back then.
@@papapapa16 He is broken.
The intro still gives me chill no joke
When Electric Fountain came on I immediately started dancing, looked back and saw the doods also dancing. Brought a tear to my eye.
Tekken 5 was where I actually decided "Ok, switching from Law to Jin"
I still remember coming home from school one day and seeing a piece of mail from my dad's best friend who was basically another uncle, addressed to him (my dad) and it was T5.
Perfect time to jump into Tekken 8!
I loved how Devil Jin looked in Tekken 5 a lot from the belt to the loony facial features.
I still remember being a kid and my brother and I hearing "Heihachi Mishima is dead". One of the craziest childhood moments
U could juggle in t3
6 Like forgot everything 😂
@@CephlonMayngrumtechnically you can juggle in every tekken game. But it became a focus point in Tekken 5.
It didn't "introduce" it though, did it.@@ryanjohnson781
LOWUT?
Juggling was a mainstay in Tekken 3 and especially Tekken Tag.
I kept replaying the intro over and over again with such banger main theme.
Tekken 5 and soul calibur 3 were my childhood man
Dude that intro just bought me back to 2007 when I just got tekken 5 as a kid.
I must say that the music and SFX of T5 is the most memorable of all Tekken games imo, the soundtrack is just so good and nostalgic!
Glad to see you have great taste 🤝🏻 Tekken 5 was mind blowing in terms of gameplay and soundtrack. The intro was btw INSANE
Tekken 4 and 5 for me, they complement each other really well.
5:47 I love that slo-mo "Baaamm" on the replay 😂
I'm patiently waiting for Max's Tekken Tag 2 video. As a casual player, Tag2 was a magical experience for me, and got me back into fighting games.
The only goated UA-camr who admits tekken 5 clears every tekken game
Played T5 everyday back in High-School and College days. This is what got me to watch and learn combos from different sources. I remember my friend showing me videos of MadDogJin and really changed how we played Tekken. This will go down as one of the best and life changing fighting game of my life!
GOATed intro! I never wanted to skip! 🔥🔥🔥
Wait, what do you mean Tekken 5 came out twenty years ago???
God, I’m freaking old…
when I heard Tekken 5 intro back then, I cooooooooooom.
And whenever I hear Tekken 5 intro, I still COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Jinpachi still haunts me dreams till now
I love tekken 4 the most. The dark vibe fit tekken really well, IMO.
Music was fire too
The very definition of "return to form."
This game redeemed the series after the huge misstep of 4.
I love 4 but I agree with you lol
So true
And made things worse as a result.

Soooo many good memories with this game, the best in the franchise by a mile.
Adding the full intro brought so much nostalgia....Thank you, instant subscribe
Not just the greatest Tekken game ever made, simply put one of the greatest fighting games ever made next to King of Fighters 98 and Guilty Gear X2: Accent Core Plus.
98. 2002 ❤
You could say the same about Tekken 3 and Soulcalibur 1 & 2 common Namco W.
@@gundamw349095, 98, 2k2, and XI. XI still my favorite
Oh absolutely. It'll probably be a few years off with how long each character takes to create, but it could still happen.
They'd have to get a new guy for Heihachi first
@@mid90sshinigami Oh yea. His Seiyuu passed away, I forgot about that.
Rip gramps heihachi did his dad so dirty 💀
You're not wrong but has ther ever been ANYONE we've seen that he's done right by? I mean Kazumi and Hachi SEEMED to get along well enough in what little we saw of them, but I feel like considering all the bastards Hachi's got running around since... did ALL of that just start after her death? I claim skepticism.
Loving the new legacy style video, well made edits and very informative commentary.
This is where I found my main and actually started learning the game. Great music, great visuals, great Bryan laugh... I freakin love T5 man.
I was obsessed with tekken 4 for years still kinda am so the way its regarded to amongst the greater community is always so jarring
@@albertocordobesrodriguez8296 i refer to how the ai is when playing single player modes,, tekken 5 ultra hard was actually challenging, you didn't need online back them to have fun with the game,, cause the games as a package did offer you a full expencience .. tekken 8 ultra hard is a joke,, there is no challenge there,, online is basically the only option and its sad,,as a casual the Ai to me is very important .. tekken 7 started the trend of having bad ai on tekken games,, on 6 and before it was great
@@Jonny93warriors I lose a lot against AI, so I can’t understand you there
@@Jonny93warriorsEhh, I kinda feel like Tekken needed some supers, and like some meter stuff like heat in some way.
Devil within is basically pre-alpha Urban Reign
PS1 Era - Tekken 3
PS2 Era - Tekken 5
PS3 Era - Tekken Tag 2
PS4 Era - Tekken 7
PS5 Era - - Tekken 8
Tekken 5 DR on the PSP is genuinely one of the best games ever made.. Basically a full upgraded Tekken 5 game on the go made my childhood so much better.. I played Tekken 5 on PS2 many years later and it didn't hit the same, the soundtrack and missing characters felt so off
Amazing game
Tekken 5 was to Tekken 3, what GT4 was to GT3. And these games are what MADE the PS2.
15:05 LOL EVEN HARPER IS SURPRISED
The music and stages also hit a high point not heard and seen since. Wish they had gotten the same music producers for 8. It's an epic soundtrack.
I still go out of my way, this many years later, and will just listen to Sparking on repeat like 10 times in a row.
When max liquified he went back into the capri Sun pouch.
This is the first tekken game I sat down and tried to learn the game. Tekken 5 has a special place in my heart. Love this game
I do not care how good Tekken gets in the future, this game is the definitive version of Tekken, and I still love playing it!...
Also, hands down, has one of the best soundtracks of all time.
BRO, every time i hear karma electric fountain its impossible to not get excited. that outro makes me want to see tekken 6 legacy right now.
