- No existe intención de lucro ninguna en la realización de esta recreación visual de la versión sinfónica de TOMMY; la única intención que me mueve es la admiración, el respeto y el cariño por una obra que considero una de las mejores no solo del siglo XX, sino de toda la historia de la música.
Si bién Pete Townshend and The Who fueron los autores de tan magna obra, la valentía de Lou Reizner acometiendo la producción, los espectaculares arreglos sinfónicos y corales de Will Malone (con la inestimable colaboración de James Sullivan), y la impecable dirección de David Measham, convierten la idea original de Pete y su banda, en una obra que perdurará a través de los tiempos.
Como dejar aparte la maestría de la London Symphony Orchestra (que puedo decir de tan gran institución que no se haya dicho), y la coral Chamber; el plantel de artistas participantes en el evento (cantantes y actores), los creativos que hicieron posible la gran obra de arte que es la caja contenedora de los vinilos... En fín, que con los humildes conocimientos y medios informáticos de que dispongo, me ha llevado cuatro meses y muchas horas diarias realizar esta recreación.
Para ello he echado mano (aparte del álbum de mi propiedad, que en el año 1973 me costo 600 pesetas), de imágenes en su mayoría extraídas de Internet. Ruego a sus autores que no me reprueben su utilización y permitan que esta obra a través de nuestra humilde colaboración, sea mas conocida y valorada en todo el mundo. Gracias.

I actually met The Who in the late 60s when they were still playing college gyms, prior to Tommy. I was with three friends and we were 17.It's a long true story that I won't bore everyone, suffice it to say I was in awe, and remain so to this day, even with the loss of John and Kieth.
The Who without Moon & Entwhistle & no offense to excellent drummer Zak Starkey (Starr), it's a 2 legged horse!
This edition of Tommy is my favourite. Even though I loved the 1969 original album, but this one from 1973 with the LSO is absolutely brilliant!

Best Rock Opera ever made, particularly this version
Hmmmm... Can't think of any others? So therefore being the only genuine one, rather than albums that get a stage treatment, it's the best out of 1.
@@seltaeb9691 There are other rock operas. There's also Quadrophenia, also by the Who. And then there's Jesus Christ: Super Star, often called a Rock Opera, and sometimes mistaken for something Who related (but it's not)
I have listened to this Album ever since 1978, since i stayed at my uncle's for working the flower business. What a damn good Album. Thanks for putting onto youtube. Brings back great memories.

Compré una cinta de este concierto en el año 1974. Sentí mucho perderla (prestada sin devolución a un compañero de carrera) ese mismo año, pero me he llevado una gran alegría al poder volver a recuperar esta obra de verdadero ARTE. Muchísimas gracias Juan José por compartirla. Es una muy agradable sorpresa después de 46 años.

Para mí, Tommy fue, es y será "LA" obra maestra del rock. Tuve la suerte de tener el vinilo apenas se puso a la venta en Canadá y desde ese momento es mi obra nro 1.
En mi opinión tiene todos los ingredientes, una muy improbable reunión de cuatro talentos en los cuatro integrantes, la bendita insolencia de aquellos imberbes postadolescentes y todo la fuerza características del rock (casi punk en algunos momentos), la emocionalidad del momento histórico que Pete Townshend vivió y sufrió con tanta intensidad . Creo también percibir una necesidad de creación sin límitaciones que se puede apreciar en el formato de la obra, los arreglos, etc.
Esta versión si bien tiene el mérito de trasladar a Tommy a un ámbito académico, creo que no fue apropiadamente arreglada.
Las primeras palabras que me salen son descafeinado, sabor a Broadway, producción de la BBC.
Se perdió el carácter épico en el camino. Le falta fuerza, le falta Von Karajan, le falta Wagner.
Resumen: Buenas intenciones, falttaron cojones.
Sigo abierto a nuevas recreaciones... pero por ahora me quedo con el original.

Para mi es la mejor version de Tommy. Todo en la producción es arte. A diferencia del soundtrack de la película que le quito la magia y misterios. Para mi la revelación y mejor adaptación y vocales es en "Cousin Kevin" cantada por John Entwistle. Es perfecta. Sin embargo, Roger Daltrey estaba en su momento de exagerar cuando "cantaba" y llevo sus vocales al limite en "I am Free". Su mejor interpretacion es sin duda en "Welcome". Hace pocos años Pete Townshend comento que habían encontrado las partituras originales, que sin embargo, no usaron cuando Daltrey y The Who revisito Tommy en concierto hace 4 años. Las visuales son fabulosas.

I brought the LP when it was first released. Tina, the Gypsy Acid Queen, but the "Gimme Shelter" queen Merry Clayton sings on this LSO version. Sheer majesty!

I had never heard this one...I only knew of the movie version with Tina Turner as the Acid Queen and EJ as the Pinball Wizard. OMG, Richie Havens singing "Eyesight to the Blind". Would love to see the liner notes/album cover and know the entire "cast. Many blessings to Juan for posting!
Este es un trabajo más coherente, desde la historia, los arreglos, la producción todo el concepto del disco, no quiero hacer menos los demás trabajos de otros grupos pero solo son una colección de canciones escogidas para este tipo de proyectos pero Tommy fue mucho más lejos, realmente es una Rock Opera.
Sao Juan, que buen trabajo hiciste a un album que es extraordinario ! Recientemente Pete Townshend dijo que habían encontrado las partituras escritas por el ya difunto realizador y productor Lou Reisner. Para mi el trabajo fue genial y la grabación impecable. El sonido te rodea.

I have been a Fan Of Tommy By The Who since I was a small child of 6 or 7. My First musical Movie of my memories was this film. I was in ah of Elton John as he played the giant Pinball Piano in the film. I was struck dumb as I listened to the sound track over and over again as I grew. But one day. I found this version of the story. And again My Life had been changed,
I played the album so much I destroyed 4 copies. Only to find it again years later on CD. Of which I again Played so much I killed 2 more copies.By then it was no longer available to purchase. It was no longer to be found in stores. Ebay had never heard of this version. I was devastated. But much to my surprise A couple of years ago in a dark Record store hidden deep in the back was this copy of the very album I so cherished as a child With all of the Book work and original art inside. Of course I bought it. What joy I had found. But one thing still kept me from my gold mine. Alas I had no Record Player. But I still owned my Record
Now again Years later as I sit at my computer searching the world over for music and movies. I find this site. To my great dismay I find my Record on this page. And as I now sit and listen. Memories flood back to me from long ago days of love and life and Innocence lost. Oh what great joy you have given me today. Thank you Juan Montes for sharing this whole version. this version as done with The London Symphony is the most amazing one I have ever heard.
TheLordTala This version was released on cd back in the 1990's but was deleted not too long after. The price for the cd is $100 the last time I saw it anywhere. I don't know why it's never been re-released since it did hit #1 on the album chart.

Es la mejor de las versiones de Tommy...la calidad de la grabacion y arreglos es realmente superior a todo lo lanzado antes y despues de 1972 cuando esta version se grabo. Esta fue una produccion del.ya fallecido Lou Reisner. Poco se ha escrito sobre esta maravilla que solo fue presentada en concierto una o do veces en Londres y Australia.
Totalmente de acuerdo contigo, de ahí mi intención por que se conozca y se valore.
@ Que bien. Recientemente, Pete Townshend conto en una entrevista, que encontraron las partituras originales. Desafortunafamente, no las usaron durante la girs del añi pasado en donde The Who tocaba con una orchesta.

aleluya Tommy sinfonico .En 1974 por medio de la revista de rock argentina PELO supe de esta version .Lastima que en su momento fuera acidamente criticada y sin exagerar pisoteada como lo fue tsmbien el concierto para grupo de rock y orquesta de Deep Purple.Los criticos pasaron perl Tommy estara aqui para siempre.Quien ha dicho que el rock ha muerto?

Yes, I have the original version premiered in London in which Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) plays Jesus in vinyl support, maybe someday I dare to do something similar to Tommy. Regards

Si te refieres a la película no es difícil de conseguir, a mi particularmente la versión sinfónica es mi preferida.
The music is great! But compared to the CD, there is a speed/pitch problem. It is one semitone lower, i.e. slower than the original recording (it is 6 minutes longer than the cd). A conversion problem? What a pity.
Hola, yo tengo el vinyl (cuadrafónico) pero esta rayado, creo que podría repararse, digitalmente tal vez. No me resigno a perderlo, y no existe en el mercado actual. Que me recomiendas hacer ? incluso podría donarlo a algún coleccionista serio

gosh...i love the who but with an orchestra!! please, that's why i wont go see them at wembley this tour. i simply cannot take two hours of violins and tubas! bring back fenders please.

Tommy ,de la cual el año 71 a mis 12 años, recuerdo haber escuchado SeeMe, Feel me, por cierto no le di mayor importancia. EstaBA inmaduro y buscando un sentido a la vida. Conforme pasaron los años me fui involucrando en el progresivo y especialmente en sus album conceptuales como A passion Play de Jehtro o 2112 de Rush, Viaje al Centro de la Tierra de Wakeman, etc. A traves de Who,s next accedí a esta obra. Para mí representa el trauma infantil que muchos chicos sufren en la niñez, el abuso en todas sus formas, en particular el sexual, tema que recién se ha puesto en boga desde las últimas 2 décadas en mi país y que provoca un profundo daño a veces irreparable. Tommy debe viajar al Hades para reencontrase consigo mismo, el viaje interior que nos lleva a la piedra oculta desde donde renacemos como el Fénix. Luego Tommy nos interpela en nuestro pecados y nos llama a redimirnos. Evidentemente la obra se tiñe de un sentido mesiánico que hace al personaje perder puntos frente a sus seguidores pero quien no es soberbio en algún punto de la vida. Lo he vivido y lo comprendo a mis 60s. Gracias por entregar esta obra sinfónica, me ha ha cambiado el punto de vista y me permite reconocer que la música tiene muchos vericuetos por descubrir. GRANDE THE WHO. VIVA EL PROGRESIVO!!!!
