I can't wait for mine to arrive. This was/is the only series I ever bought both covers for. The complete run of Rafael Albuquerque variants was just as spectacular as the A covers. And the story and interior art are amazing too. Barrows, Martinez-Bueno, and the rest are in my opinion the top tier of modern DC artists. I will buy anything those guys draw.

As an example I would never have bought this, but you've sold me on it. However, not even you could sell me on the Nightwing omnibus. :)
The graphic design of that book cover and interior covers are really well done; super dark. For a very thick book, it sits really well, and the binding is actually quite good (I think). I personally think its a touch unrealistic for people to expect no gutter loss in any book over 1K pages. Price is steep; but its a nice thick book. I am currently reading the New 52 Batman family (all of it) and am just loving it. The more I read of Batman, the more I realize how unstable and dark he is as a person. N52 is a lot less lonely than older Batman (which was cool in a different way). And Rebirth seems to double down on this. The interplay of characters takes the usual dark drama of Batman, and spins that darkness into an entirely new light. The end result is that you get a real sense of how wide reaching the actions of madmen (whether Batman, or the villains) can be - that kind of deep madness seems to be contagious. Everyone in the bat family is touched and affected by the darkness, madness and pain that seems to rise out of the roots of Gotham City. /emo-mode-off Working with bad guys works for me. And (as you note) he has worked with other villains before (if only in passing) e.g. Grundy, Calendar Man, Two Face, etc. when and where he needs to. But I guess this is a bit different, as he is a part of the team formally. Really looking forward to reading this. So we might read this right after Scott Snyder Batman and Batman Eternal Omnis? Ultimately, I'm glad I committed to the pre-order.
I love this run so much. Glad to see Tynion's prologue to it from the Robing 80th Anniversary Special was included since it wasn't in the solicitation.

I’ll be purchasing the 4 oversized hardcovers. I just like the ease of handling those smaller books with the same size artwork. This is a good buy regardless if you choose to go the Omnibus route. Great content Omar, your channel among others have gotten me back into collecting. 👍😁

Love it! My copy just arrived today. I’m always worried because I’ve had many omnibus delivered with damage and I had to return them then wait longer. This book arrived in Near Mint Condition!
I'm mostly a Manga collector but every couple years I splurge on some Comics. Thx to Near Mint Condition. I Picked up 6 omnibuses in the Past 2months. Both Injustice books, Road to No Man's Land, and Grant Morrison's Batman run. THx again for fueling my fire.
I forgot about the powerhouses of artists in this run. I also really enjoyed Tynion and Martinez Bueno on Justice League Dark and hope one day DC will do some kind of omni for both volumes.
Great overview. The opening arc was one of the best to kick off Rebirth. I lost interest when the Victim Syndicate showed up; I wish there was followup on at least who First Victim was. Nonetheless, this was a treat to read and seemed to be more consistent than King’s Batman running alongside. I’m conflicted whether to go the deluxe or omni route because I wasn’t too into the Night of the Monster Men.
I feel like there’s a limit to how many pages an Omni should have. It sucks to break up an Omni into multiple parts but it might be necessary to get a good bind and reduce gutter loss.
Based on what you said about this, I really want to check this book out. On Christmas Eve I got my first DC omni which was Batman by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. My collection is 95% Marvel and I want to give DC some more love.
Omar, is the paper quality in the Omni the same as the deluxes? Was hoping you would discuss that in the video. I really want to get the Omni but if the paper quality isn’t as good I might rebuy the deluxes. I also really love this amazing run and the art is fantastic. Want to te read this run so badly.

Man the deluxes may be easier to handle but I’m addicted to those Omnibus spines. I’ll be grabbing this one, I’ve never read it and it gets high praise from everyone, and I’m enjoying Tynion’s current Batman run.

@@CinematicGalaxy They mostly stopped doing the modern DC runs. I got Snyder's Justice League books but the paper quality is not great. Rather disappointing. Sure wish that more Rebirth titles had gotten the deluxe HC treatment, like Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and the GLC, Deathstroke, etc.
Nice overview. The story looks different enough from Batman Eternal to be a worthwhile read. I only have the Tom King run in HC, was waiting for this omnibus. Planning to pick this one up along with the Jim Lee X-Men vol 1 reprint!
I'm not sure about this one. I read the first deluxe book just after I started Tom Kong's Batman, and I liked the latter much more. Still, your enthusiasm is infectious. I may get it. Omnibus shipping to the UK is a bit hit and miss at the moment. Anyway, thanks for another great video and Seasons Greetings to all of you reading this. Another great review Omar! I’m glad you shared your opinion a bit on this, I feel the same way! I absolutely loved this run and although I have the issues, I can’t resist double dipping on this one since it meant a lot to me as well. The Tim and Cassie stuff is fantastic, and I enjoyed Clayface’s development, as well as seeing new villains like the Victim Syndicate. Oh yeah... AND THE ART! Love it. Haha.
Finally, thank you DC for collecting a story without orphaning issues. Why they couldn't do this for the Tomasi Superman run I have no idea beyond: "Welcome to the DC collected editions department; where we're not happy till you're not happy."

Just read this last week; brilliant, simply brilliant the Snyder, Tynion, Tomasi Gotham Saga has risen to my definitive run of the characters and wholly changed the way I look at the DC mythos as a whole

Omar, I have an obsession with the Batcave. I always love when the Batcave is shown in comics. Is there some “scenes” or spreads of the Batcave in this Omnibus? I also have a healthy obsession with the Bat vehicles but I’m interested in if this Omni shows the Batcave at any point that’s drool worthy? Someday I will have one of my own....

This series got off to a good start but the middle seemed to drag before finally concluding with a bang. The art by Alvaro Martinez is the best thing about this run.

I have to agree with Tynion as being the best writer for Batman for a long time. I love Snyder, King has too much focus on writing romance novels. Batman went from bad ass to mid life Crisis in a single panel. Hey, maybe the Tom King omni can be called Batman: Mid Life Crisis.) Lol. I think “Their Dark Designs” is one of my favorite Batman stories ever. I’ll be grabbing this one. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great overview, Omar! Hmm...this is a beautiful-looking omni, but my favorite collecting format is deluxe/OHC. I've only collected the first Detective Comics Rebirth Deluxe (haven't read it yet); guess it's time for me to spring on the others. That artwork is GORGEOUS and as much as I love Batman, I tend to prefer his supporting cast like Nightwing, Tim Drake Robin, any of the Batgirls, etc. Haven't read much with Spoiler yet so I'm looking forward to reading these stories.

I picked this up and absolutely loved it... it really might be my gateway to more dc books. I read an interview where Tynion said this run for him was like writing the X-men! Any recs for someone who loved this and wants more? (I’m already reading Tynion’s current Batman run!!)
I’ve always wondered how Batman vs Detective Comics continuity works. Do both creative teams work around each other, with Batman supposed to be dealing with both plots simultaneously?
Not sure how much this affects the Detective Comics run, but Scott Snyder and James Tynion are close friends and often discuss the stories they are planning and figure out how to connect them. Not 100% sure but my guess is that this takes place during and intertwines with Tom King's Rebirth Batman run (I am Gotham-City of Bane), and before the current Batman run by James Tynion. The authors of these books tend to rotate which can be confusing but can also help continuity flow together I believe. Basically if I'm getting it right the story of the modern Batman continuity is Scott Snyder writes the main new 52 batman run while assisting James Tynion with Batman Eternal. After the New 52 run and eternal are over, Snyder moves on to do his Justice Leauge, Metal, Death Metal and Last Knight on Earth. Tom King then starts doing the main Batman Rebirth series and James Tynion moves to his stint with Detective Comics (collected in this book). After Tom King finishes his main Batman run with City Of Bane and Tynion Finishes his Detective comics run, Tom moves on to do his canon Black Label Batman and Catwoman series which is still in progress. James Tynion then starts the new main Batman run which is still going on to this day and Peter J. Tomasi is doing the current run in Detective Comics. And all of this stuff is connected in the same story lol.
Wow Omar you have convinced me to buy a DC omnibus. I usually only read the indie books and some Marvel series but I love Something Is Killing The Children so if any writer can get me into Batman I figure it is James Tynion.
I am a big bat fan but have always overlooked this series and Detective comics in General for the main Batman series but you have persuaded me to pick up the issues( although probably not the omnibus because of cost). I love some of the characters in this book particularly Tim drake and azrael. I have a question what do you think of Tynion batman run?

Really wish DC would have made Night of the Monster Men into a Deluxe HC and not standard. That would be the only reason I'd grab this omni since I have the deluxes already. I'm tempted, but just can't bring myself to buy it just to have a cross over in one volume. May just grab Nightwing deluxe vol. 1 and cross read since they're all oversized too.

If you have the Batman and Nightwing Deluxes. You'll have the complete Night of the Monster Men, if you get the Rebirth Deluxes.

These creator focused Omniboo are frustrating
Just read this last week; brilliant, simply brilliant the Snyder, Tynion, Tomasi Gotham Saga has risen to my definitive run of the characters and wholly changed the way I look at the DC mythos as a whole
UPDATE: I just bought this from IST, my last buy for a long while (newlywed and all that!), but I'm excited!
For whatever reason I really liked this run on Detective.

Hahahah sweet! I loved this run so much that i custom bound it (including the night of the monster men crossover ) into two custom omnis! Still very tempted by this review to upgrade!! The gutter loss looks minimal and amazing compared to DC 's usual omni out put!!! Thanks alot for hard work man and Merry Christmas to you and yours ! 🤘🏻

Omar, I have an obsession with the Batcave. I always love when the Batcave is shown in comics. Is there some “scenes” or spreads of the Batcave in this Omnibus? I also have a healthy obsession with the Bat vehicles but I’m interested in if this Omni shows the Batcave at any point that’s drool worthy? Someday I will have one of my own....
Idk about the batcave, but they do have a base in this collection called the Belfrey which Red Robin built

I STILL haven't started reading anything from DC Rebirth yet, so I'm definitely picking this up! Would be nice if they dropped a Batman by Tom King omni next year too!
This series got off to a good start but the middle seemed to drag before finally concluding with a bang. The art by Alvaro Martinez is the best thing about this run.
His art is amazing. Up there with Barrows.

I absolutely love this run. Read this in singles issues. Definitely picking this big boy up. In the UK it's been sold as Batman : Detective comics omnibus by James Tynion IV.
That's a name I can get behind.
This story is what brought me to comics. And I think the deluxe OHCs are the best format so won't "upgrade" even though I love the story. 👍
I have to agree with Tynion as being the best writer for Batman for a long time. I love Snyder, King has too much focus on writing romance novels. Batman went from bad ass to mid life Crisis in a single panel. Hey, maybe the Tom King omni can be called Batman: Mid Life Crisis.) Lol. I think “Their Dark Designs” is one of my favorite Batman stories ever. I’ll be grabbing this one. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great overview, Omar! Hmm...this is a beautiful-looking omni, but my favorite collecting format is deluxe/OHC. I've only collected the first Detective Comics Rebirth Deluxe (haven't read it yet); guess it's time for me to spring on the others. That artwork is GORGEOUS and as much as I love Batman, I tend to prefer his supporting cast like Nightwing, Tim Drake Robin, any of the Batgirls, etc. Haven't read much with Spoiler yet so I'm looking forward to reading these stories.
Get the rest of those deluxe editions, brother. You'll love it.
I have the 7 trade paperbacks that cover his Detective run and as gorgeous as the omnibus is I don't think that I'm going to upgrade

After being somewhat disappointed by Joker War, I'm gonna be a bit cautious about this omnibus, but if you recommend it maybe I'll give it a chance

I picked this up and absolutely loved it... it really might be my gateway to more dc books. I read an interview where Tynion said this run for him was like writing the X-men!

Several months late, but general response to that question is yes!
I’ve always wondered how Batman vs Detective Comics continuity works. Do both creative teams work around each other, with Batman supposed to be dealing with both plots simultaneously?
Not sure how much this affects the Detective Comics run, but Scott Snyder and James Tynion are close friends and often discuss the stories they are planning and figure out how to connect them. Not 100% sure but my guess is that this takes place during and intertwines with Tom King's Rebirth Batman run (I am Gotham-City of Bane), and before the current Batman run by James Tynion.
The authors of these books tend to rotate which can be confusing but can also help continuity flow together I believe. Basically if I'm getting it right the story of the modern Batman continuity is Scott Snyder writes the main new 52 batman run while assisting James Tynion with Batman Eternal. After the New 52 run and eternal are over, Snyder moves on to do his Justice Leauge, Metal, Death Metal and Last Knight on Earth. Tom King then starts doing the main Batman Rebirth series and James Tynion moves to his stint with Detective Comics (collected in this book). After Tom King finishes his main Batman run with City Of Bane and Tynion Finishes his Detective comics run, Tom moves on to do his canon Black Label Batman and Catwoman series which is still in progress. James Tynion then starts the new main Batman run which is still going on to this day and Peter J. Tomasi is doing the current run in Detective Comics. And all of this stuff is connected in the same story lol.

Wow Omar you have convinced me to buy a DC omnibus. I usually only read the indie books and some Marvel series but I love Something Is Killing The Children so if any writer can get me into Batman I figure it is James Tynion.

I am a big bat fan but have always overlooked this series and Detective comics in General for the main Batman series but you have persuaded me to pick up the issues( although probably not the omnibus because of cost). I love some of the characters in this book particularly Tim drake and azrael.
I have a question what do you think of Tynion batman run?
Tynion's run has been great. But I really enjoy Tomasi's a little more.

Really wish DC would have made Night of the Monster Men into a Deluxe HC and not standard. That would be the only reason I'd grab this omni since I have the deluxes already. I'm tempted, but just can't bring myself to buy it just to have a cross over in one volume. May just grab Nightwing deluxe vol. 1 and cross read since they're all oversized too.
