'Conan had a good run in the 70s and John Buscema and Roger Thomas did a good job.' That's an understatement. JB drew the perfect Conan for such a long time that everyone else is a pale comparison.
Good point, also I wouldn't go for The savage sword of Conan's Marvel's version on glossy paper. Instead look for the dark horse version. I'm a Conan hardcore fan, I like the old style phonebook paper printings.
Yep, I don’t understand why people do this. I don’t like Marvel much, and there are only a few characters in the DC Universe that I like, but even then, I only buy select stories and runs that I enjoy reading. I love Batman, but not every Batman story is a good story to me.

I know we are only the consumer of these products and don't know what happens behind the scenes , but some of the decisions to print out books in specific format is so weird. Like who needs a New 52 Zero/Issue 1 Omnibus? Seriously, who asks for this? And why would somebody buy it?(Especially at the price tag of 150$!) I'm generally curious
some of the decisions on what to print and what to leave out are truly baffling. gem mentioned superior spiderman for the second time that I've heard. and I don't think there's a black panther omnibus.. despite the character's popularity and the kirby connection.

Damn, Morrison's Batman run is one of my all time favorites, but I get that it's a confusing in a vacuum and with only minimal context. I've also been enjoying Savage Sword of Conan much, much more than any of its contemporaries, both its art and script are a lot more enjoyable, while I find most bronze and even some silver age stuff dull, with a lot of text saying a whole lot of nothing.
As a Morrison fan, I liked but didn't love Batman, specifically the post-Final Crisis segment. It may just be that I spent too long between RIP/FC and Batman & Robin, but I wished less of it was about finding Bruce and more was about Dick & Damian. I was also a bit disappointed since I'd waited years for it, and had hyped it up a lot. I felt the same about Hickman's Avengers saga. Morrison did have a lot of great artists, though.
Ya Grant Morrison's Batman run is my favourite Batman run ever, it's incredible. Really surprised to see it on this list. I read the trades, not the omni, and I remember reading Final Crisis as well to go with it, but I think that's all that would be missing from the omni.

And its the only place you will find WHAT IF? 16 reprinted, because of rights issues as it was omitted from WHAT IF THE COMPLETE COLLECTION Vol 2 TPB. Keep up the great work! :)
I also had binding problems with my Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man omnibus. I was able to read it but very, very carefully. Always seemed like the pages where hanging on by a tiny speck of glue. Love the story though.
Plus since they printed on the Magazine Format. They didn't have to abide by that annoying CCA tag & all the content in this gem of a series was uncensored and at times explicit. Also.....not a big 2 or superhero fan so these classic old school series were a godsend.
I personally LOVE Savage Sword of Conan. It’s probably the comic/magazine that got me in the hobby. Those covers were incredible. I’m a BIG Daredevil guy now (thanks mostly to the Netflix series and ASM cameos). Thank you for another GREAT REVIEW!!
On page 8 of the 2008 printing and page 14 of the 2016 printing of the Electra Omnibus, the panels weren't centered correctly, so it cuts off the left side of the panels. On the third panel, you can't read what the man says about the dog. He says, "It's croaked" (I have the original magazine), but you can only see part of the "s" and "ked" because the left side of the bubble is cut. Also, a small bit of the artwork on the left side of each panel is cut. The page numbering on both printings is different because there is no numbering on the 2008 edition until the first page of the first story while the 2016 edition starts numbering the pages before the story. You figure they would have fixed the printing error in the 2016 edition, but I saw on another review of the 2016 edition that it is still cut off on page 14.
You lost me after the Muppets one. I agree the compilation omnibuses kind of suck. Just random issues here and there, though I got the John Byrne ones because I love his art and they were cheap after being liquidated by Marvel. I agree with you about the golden and silver age omnis too. That's some tough reading as is anything earlier than bronze age. And yeah, hard pass on Muppets omnis, which should be in cheap smaller sized books for kids. But, man, Elektra by Miller and Sienkiewicz? Superior Foes of Spider-Man? Batman by Morrison? Flash by Geoff Johns? Conan with John Buscema and Barry Windsor-Smth art? These are all some of the best books of their respective eras and companies.
I was actually pleasantly surprised with some of his choices. I thought Superior Foes was very overrated. I think Grant Morrison is very overrated. Also, a good chunk of this comes down to personal taste. In some of these cases he's really listing books he regrets buying. Tough to call something the worst without reading it
Something that always puts me off reading main line comics is the fact that to get the full story you have to read an issue of a separate storyline from another character. The CW TV shows did this as well and it completely destroyed my interest in them
You definitely have to give Flash another try. Once you get used to the artwork, I think it's really entertaining. The rogues are pretty interesting characters too. Putting Morrison's Batman in a worst 10 is a little bit harsh too. But I guess it's a matter of taste.
Good to hear you're only keeping what you love in your collection. Life is too short to keep stuff that doesn't bring you joy. Plus your older self will thank you for not having so much stuff to maintain as you body starts to age and slow down.
If you still have Savage Sword of Conan Omni Vol Nos. 2, 3, Conan the Barbarian Omni Vol. 3 and Master of Kung Fu Omni Vol. 4, I'd be interested in purchasing those.
My man Gem, this is why you appeal to most if not all your followers. The real you share, being I person that collects things I know how it is to get something for completion. In the words of Day-day from Next Friday “ Players F’ up too” lol
I found a great store in Britain. But the shipping on 20 - might have been just 10 - comics was about $50! I'm not even sure I should be buying any comics. So that shipping is too much for me.
For me Elektra assasin is one of the best stories in comics. The art is fantastic and the story keeps you guessing. You can read this over and over again!
Do you happen to know if the new Roger Stern spiderman omnibus has binding issues? I saw that silicon applique glue and I'm thinking returning it already
Only ones I bought that I regretted buying were the Hawkman Geoff Johns Omni, because the glued binding sucks on that one, so I ended up buying the trade paper backs. And the Rebirth omni that is filled with all the issue 1's
The Electra Omnibus is definitely not my favorite thing ever, but I didn't hate it as much as you. Since omnibuses are pretty expensive even when in print, I only tend to buy the ones where I really think I'm going to love most of the content within the omnibus. X-Men Inferno Prologue (not an official omnibus but it's still as thick as one) might be the one exception, but it's still part of Chris Claremont's run, so I'm keeping it in there. My recommendation would be to just buy the stuff you think you're going to like, but I'm sure you've heard that advice before.
The Geoff Johns Flash run is a slow start for new Flash fans. Once you get past the first couple of storylines, it really picks up. I can see how some of the older Marvel Conan series may not appeal to everyone. But you should really try to pick up the Conan by Busiek and Nord Omni coming later this year because it's one of the best Conan runs printed. This particular volume was originally published by Dark Horse and their approach to the book was going back to the original Robert E Howard Conan stories and redoing them in a linear fashion. With some issues acting as a bridge between two original Howard stories. The essence of Conan is back to an original form. And the artwork is original and unique; it looks more painted than drawn and colored. If that book doesn't make you come around to the character of Conan, nothing will. And speaking of bad omnis, I have to say I'm disappointed in DC's Starman omnis. Not the story itself, it's amazing, but the fact that they're collected into 6 thin omnis. 2 big volumes would be perfect and ideal. The thin ones are also out of print too. I just want a proper Omnibus for that great story. If you haven't read Starman yet, it's one of the best series you haven't read.
Great video Gem but you can't regret the Marvel Horror Omnibus or the Stan Lee Steve Ditko v1 and v2 b/c something you taught me is how important having the history of it all on your shelves is. As for Golden Age, Superman v1, Batman v1-3, Wonder Woman v1, Justice League v1-3, Brave & the Bold v1-2, and World's Finest v1 are all you need. Conan the Barbarian v1 with Barry Windsor-Smith and Savage Sword v1 are all you need. Sienkewicz painted look takes time to get into - during the 1980s I was in college when these were coming out as single issues so you had a full month with each issue to spend time devouring it and getting into it! Give it a chance when you're not run a rush - the Elektra mini-series is one of the best and Sienkevicz painted art was also amazing on Frank Miller's Daredevil Graphic Novel. Totally agree, Morrison's Batman wasn't very good - except for the 16-issue Batman & Robin with the first six issues by Quitely open art! Don't purge your library! I think you've been negatively affected by the How Many Omnibus Have I Read Video you recently did with 29% - you even said in the middle of filming that this whole idea may backfire! By the way, I've said it before and I'll say it again - you have a very clear, persuasive and precise voice/phrasing - you could teach if you wished to and you'd be very effective.
Just be particular on your bronze age DC omnibus. Swamp thing, house of mystery and house of secrets is pretty cool but yeah i wouldn't get golden age stuff at all
My least favourite that I own is probably the Howard the Duck omnibus. A lot of people love that series but it just never landed with me. I felt as though I’m from the wrong country and era to ‘get’ it.
I‘m collecting comics since 1992 and imo Conan is the greatest action, fantasy, horror, adventure, comic book series ever created. Believe me, you should give Conan a second change. Not everything is bad or uncool because it 50+ years old.
My worst omnibus is Silver Surfer Vol. 1...Not only did I pay $300 for the DM and it got reprinted...but the binding was horrible, I never read it, and now I have 2 copies lol
I know I'm late to this video but thanks - has saved me a few bob.Was considering Elektra, Tangled Web and Flash. I will save that cash for another day. I've heard there are one or two new omnis coming out late this year I think. But whoa whoa whoa, just as i was typing have seen Shang Chi getting grief right at the end - I'm a huge fan so may have to go back and re-evaluate everything I've just said!!!! Loved the video

Gem, I know you are a collector but you gotta sell some of these haha. Don't hold onto books you don't want just for a cool background
Tough to call something the worst without reading it
100 agree with the OC
Something that always puts me off reading main line comics is the fact that to get the full story you have to read an issue of a separate storyline from another character. The CW TV shows did this as well and it completely destroyed my interest in them
lol wasn’t expecting muppets to be here
You definitely have to give Flash another try. Once you get used to the artwork, I think it's really entertaining. The rogues are pretty interesting characters too. Putting Morrison's Batman in a worst 10 is a little bit harsh too. But I guess it's a matter of taste.
Doesn’t Compilation books or sampler book defeat the purpose of omnibus
good point... kind of does
Good to hear you're only keeping what you love in your collection. Life is too short to keep stuff that doesn't bring you joy. Plus your older self will thank you for not having so much stuff to maintain as you body starts to age and slow down.
Collections need a focus. Buying everything under the sun is blindness.
That's what's up a man with Goals lol...Muppet babies🤣🤣🤣🤣 a true omnibus collector...Great vid
Haha, I love these kind of videos, just like your video about your worst omni's. I even came back after 3 months to watch this video again 😂
I love that comic code gem logo, good idea.
Superior Foes is my favourite alt Spidey series. I agree it doesn't need to be Omnibus but it's worth the read.
When I saw that 52 on there I was about to say man, nice save lol.
I so happy for this episode. Thank you for keeping us informed.
It’s funny how a few months prior you told us how cool those Master of Kung Fu omnibuses were!
would love to buy from from Cheap graphic novels, but after applying international shipping they become extremely expensive graphic novels
I found a great store in Britain. But the shipping on 20 - might have been just 10 - comics was about $50! I'm not even sure I should be buying any comics. So that shipping is too much for me.
Superior foes has a huge cult following. Love it.
I knew Muppets would be mentioned first 😂😂😂😂
I was gobsmacked that you had 52 on that pile! So glad that was a mistake, haha!
I'm definitely a bigger fan of omnibus's & appreciate you putting in the time for this video!
I almost bought the first volume of Flash today at a local used bookstore but decided to wait. Now I'm glad I did. Thanks for the heads up.
“Big bad stacks”
would you say its better to collect omnibus, or single issues?
I mean, obviously, buy what you like, but i mean as a short term hold (5 years)
That opening with your logo was awesome
The Electra Omnibus is definitely not my favorite thing ever, but I didn't hate it as much as you.
Since omnibuses are pretty expensive even when in print, I only tend to buy the ones where I really think I'm going to love most of the content within the omnibus. X-Men Inferno Prologue (not an official omnibus but it's still as thick as one) might be the one exception, but it's still part of Chris Claremont's run, so I'm keeping it in there. My recommendation would be to just buy the stuff you think you're going to like, but I'm sure you've heard that advice before.
I will take the Grant Morrison Batman Omnibuses off your hands
I don't have any yet but the new 52 Deathstroke omnibus would be one that I would want to collect even though the new 52 run was average.
painfully ironic how the Flash run starts slow
Man, I love Superior Foes of Spider-Man!
Swamp thing, house of mystery and house of secrets is pretty cool but yeah i wouldn't get golden age stuff at all
Great video, it was fun to see what you didn't like. A top 10 worst statues you've bought would be great to. If you haven't done it already.
Agree with Batman Morrison didn’t like it as much as other Batman omnis
My least favourite that I own is probably the Howard the Duck omnibus. A lot of people love that series but it just never landed with me. I felt as though I’m from the wrong country and era to ‘get’ it.
Much appreciated for the video was probably going to buy at least 4 of the books you showed 🤣🙏
We say "Take it easy" to these Omnis on their way out the door. Lol
Your doing Shang-Chi dirty man! Lol Hopefully the movie will be somewhat interesting
I am shocked to see Superior Foes of Spiderman on your list. Such a fun read🎉
That first Grant Morrison Batman omnibus was dope
“Yeah I just wasn’t really feeling this run.” *has 5 1000 pg books containing the run
Lol ! I was about to complain why this guy put 52 Omni as one of the worst 😂
Is one of my favorite story arc ever
Seeing the 52 omnibus up there scared me
I never saw the day that Gembo made a video talking about the worst omnibuses!
I got halfway through She-Hulk by Peter David couldn’t for the life of me finish the Loki Omnibus because of how wordy it was lol
Very interesting to hear you considering downsizing and not being as much of a completionist. Having lots of those thoughts right now.
man, it's tough to break that habit.
I love how Gem's still holding on to these omnis, specially the Muppets
lol
