Super Excited for this Omnibus containing all the extra external content outside of the core story as well. As a collector I prefer all the extras in chronological reading order but I’ll happily take it in release order. I love and want to read it all. It’s actually a blessing that we have it already “trimmed” in trade and absolute format for all those that just want the bare bones story but for me I want it all. In my opinion DC got it right here in spite of the order. I’d hate it if this was never printed. I’m so happy.
Yes, yes oh by the pantheon of New Gods yes! I have been waiting for this since they announced the Final Crisis 10th now the wait begins for Forever Evil and Convergence
Hi Omar, I have the HC, and now this omni, the reason I love omni’s, is that they collect the majority of a story, and I haven’t read a lot of dc/marvel because I stopped collecting over 20 yrs ago. Watching you Omar has got me back into collecting. omni’s, and collected editions, and TP’s mainly. Great review Thanks mate 😊
I only read project Superman and Batman knight of vengeance when flashpoint was being released in 2011. I have to say the mapping was a concern of mine but after reading most of the omnibus at this point, I understand why they did it. To me, it really works well at fleshing out the characters and the conflicts between the characters. If anyone hasn’t purchased it and us on the fence, I highly recommend it. I purchased the absolute when it first came out but sold it in favor of this format. Very happy with my decision!
I’m barely 18 now, but this was my first real intro to comics, and an awesome one at that, remains my favorite to this day. A huge reason why flash is my favorite superhero.
I'm so happy I waited for this omnibus. For the longest time I was tempted to get the absolute edition, but I thought not having the tie-ins would be a disservice to the event. This book is thicc!
I'll be waiting for Flash by Geoff Johns volume 3 omnibus which will have the entire twelve issues of the Barry Allen run, Rebirth, Blackest Night, and the main 5 issue Flashpoint mini. The only spin off from Flashpoint I really cared about is Batman, which I have in the Batman by Azzarello & Risso Deluxe HC.
Thanks for the overview Omar, its my birthday on the 22nd, this is the perfect gift, looks awesome! Not sure about the mapping though, I think I would have preferred to have all issues of each mini-series together.
I've said this before but I really wish DC would go the route of an omnibus or deluxe covering the main event and NECESSARY tie-ins and then do a companion omnibus with the rest of the tie-ins. I have very little confidence that these books will be easy to read nor stay together in the long run. Great overview though! Thank you!
@@scottcrabface5662 Don't know, probably this this companion to legendary event :-), earlier they made Infinty, Avenger vs X-men, Original Sin Companions etc. Now is nothing, last time they connected Inferno with Inferno crossovers in one book. That material in AoA companion was made later than main event as I remember.
If I recall, Flashpoint was supposed to just a Flash event but DC was struggling and decided to use Flashpoint as a jumping off point to reboot the DC Universe (again) in the form of the New 52. I found myself more interested in the world of this alternative timeline more than the story itself. (Maybe it's because I didn't like the idea of bringing back Barry and having Wally get sidelined for a decade.) Like how did Superman get to where he was, what was the history of the main conflict ect. It's why I liked the tie-ins. It reminds of one of DC's last Elseworlds books, The Last Family of Krypton where it's Kal-El and his parents who survived Krypton and how them coming to Earth changed certain events. Glad to see all the tie-ins in this in the suggested reading order, the same way IDW does with Transformers and TMNT.
On one hand, I want this story in OHC size… on the other hand, I think I’ll wait for a deluxe of just the core story. This is a lot to take in for something that will likely fit into other character reading orders for me. I’d like to be able to read it and move along quickly into the new 52 when I’m reading something like Batman in order. I thought about getting the Geoff Johns flash Omni’s instead, but I didn’t realize there is such a big time jump in them. So fingers crossed for a 15th anniversary deluxe with just the main story!
i love love love the mapping on this and think it makes so much more sense this way. you purchase the omni because you want to collect/read everything in order, not to have a bound collection of tpb's that make it hard to know what goes where. if you wanna reread the middle or end of the storyline its towards the middle or end of the book, not in the beginning. i personally also buy tradepaperbacks of big dc events like crisis so i can reread it by itself on occasion without the omni/tie ins
I have the absolute edition but I'm tempted to get the omnibus at some point, most of the tie-in comics for this event were really well done. Kudos to the YT algorithm for putting another cool old NM video in my feed I had missed out on originally.
I was talking with someone about when was the last crossover event where the side stories actually were good. Blackest Night and Flashpoint really did do a great job in having the side stories in this alternate universe resonate. I cant wait to reread it in full
Thanks for the review Omar! Honestly I loved the mapping here, as you described, and looking forward to getting my copy over the weekend. I’d venture to guess that most people who are really into this already have the tpb or HC. So you can still read the event separately as one. Under that premise I like the idea of release date order. Kinda different but why not. They’ve done worse (like leaving issues out).
Picked up Flashpoint and Flash GJ vol 2. What are your thoughts on the forecasted Flash GJ vol 3? Already have the Final Crisis Omni and Blackest Night Omni... “Includes: Final Crisis: Rogue's Revenge #1-3; The Flash: Rebirth #1-6; Flash #1-12; Blackest Night: The Flash #1-3; The Flash: Rebirth #1; Blackest Night: Black Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #1; The Flash Secret Files and Origins 2010 #1; Flashpoint #1-5.”
Beautiful-looking book, but this one's a pass for me. I used to have the trade paperback and I enjoyed the event, but I've never thought about re-reading it. I know people were wanting this one though, so good for those who finally get to have it.
I believe Flashpoint was intended to be a standalone Flash event like many of Geoff Johns Green Lantern events in 00 but I believe it was hijacked by Dan Didio to become the catalyst for DC's New 52 reboot. This explains why all the flashpoint tie ins are totally inconsequential and unnecessary and done mostly by total unknowns while DC stellar talent were getting a jump on their New 52 books. The only readable tie in was the Batman 3 parter which was later referenced by Tom King during the tail end of his Batman 2016 run. Whilst I'm glad they finally combined Road to Flashpoint and Flashpoint in one hardcover book they unfortunately included all the other totally pointless crap into another tree killing omnibus instead of a more sensible deluxe edition.
I agree, I understand why people want all the tie ins for the event but when it comes down to it it’s all filler. I rather just have the whole main story how dc wanted it to be read
Absolutely not. There is no double dipping as far as I know. Flash volume 3 leads into this omnibus so no it does not at all make getting this redundant. Hope that helps.
Even if it in volume 3 it would only be the main event without tie ends. Just look at the green lantern omnibus and the Blackest night omnibus. Similar situation.
Actually many Elseworlds stories are CANON of the 51 parallel universes that comprised the finite multiverse prior to the Death Metal snafu. And since now DC has a infinite multiverse which they have confusingly and stupidly called an omniverse then that means all Elseworlds tales (both told and untold) are now canon too.
I swear It feels like I pre-ordered this yesterday. And it´s already here. Flashfact!
We see what you did there.........and approve :)
I vastly prefer this mapping. I hate when an omni just does event issues, then tie ins in chunks. I like it all in chronological, as true to the original reading order as possible.

Yeah I just got the death metal deluxe And without the tie Ins it just wasn't as good .

Can this flash omni be read an an enjoyable standalone?
I love Andy Kubert art, but man has it changed since his 1990s X-Men days. I miss his original style. It was unique.
He reminded me more of his dad then. Honestly, it might be the inker too.
