Great tip I actually do that as well now, I get mine from Chinese harbor freight but as u probably know they will not work after you have put gasoline through them lol
I have a 96 Manual that won’t go into any gear but neutral. When I first started having problems the gears would shift hard or I would have to put the clutch would be more stiff than usual . Eventually the truck got stuck in first , after it only went to neutral and reverse. Now the truck is stuck in neutral , still starts but won’t shift at all. (Manual Transmission)
HDWRENCHHEAD EVANS hey i have a ford f-150 2001 and when i put it in drive it revs up to 1.5-2k rpm but goes no where that’s when i need to rev it up to 2.5k ish and then it engaged, will this fix my issue?
Hey quick question. The circle right above where you’re working in the beginning of the video. What is it and should there be a plug there? I have a 94 F150 that has the hole but no plug and I just had it serviced.
So this solenoid issue was gone after because truck wouldn’t get out of first gear. This attempt at fixing it failed and truck still only had one gear indicating yeh a bigger wiring issue or him needing a replacement or rebuilt transmission. Also reverse is a separate function from forward gears.
My 1994 f150 xlt 5.0 v8 4x4 automatic E40D only reverse and stays in neutral but once I shift it into drive it shuts off completely. The code is 629 Torque Converter Clutch circuit fault can the solenoid affect this? Anything helps thanks
The tcc solenoid could definitely cause this issue . Old and dirty fluid or low fluid level can cause the tcc to go bad, just like bad plugs can ruin coils
have a 1995 f150 automatic 5.0 it drives forward perfectly fine no issues but when i put it into reverse it like shakes the whole car and it wont move into reverse at all i dont know what to do or how to fix it please help
My 94 e40d does some weird crap sometimes. In cold weather it randomly just starts shifting rough and I have to let off the gas to get it to shift. Or it will even seem like it goes into neutral and just revs while I'm trying to go down the road.
TJ Ward there are so many variables, youve got a torque converter clutch solenoid, you could add a trans cooler shift solenoids could be sticking maybe some lucas transmission conditioner. Or it could need rebuild. You might get a better clue buying and e40d transmission rebuild or diagnostic book.
Ive got a 1995 Ford with a 4.9l 6 automatic transmission , when its cold in the mourning & I put in drive, reverse or any gear nothing happens won't move. Let it warm up in park for ten minutes starts shifting & going but when I come to stop if its in drive with my foot on the brake it will stop the engine. so its not disengaging. If I leave it in neutral its fine until I want to go drop into drive & off I go . When its really warmed up ,say 15 miles ( cold weather takes longer) of driving no problems runs fine everything normal. So in the mourning or when I start I drive it like a manual , when it warms up its a regular automatic. Been driving this way for 12 years. I don't know if I should mess with it ?
say I have the same exact problem except mines move when I get on the gas cold, but other than that mines has the same exact issues any luck finding the issue?
@@hdwrenchheadevans7227 I have the same exact symptoms thank you for info the mechanics here cannot even figure it out, replaced a few sensors like MAP sensor, fuel regulator, coil pickup, and now the vehicle speed sensor on rear diff still not fixed, but I will check into maybe a failing torque converter cause when I'm diving on the freeway and get up to speed the truck makes a quick thud like feel from trans
@@concretejungle77 Sorry to here you got problems also. Im just living with mine for now , Its really not that bad , when its cold its a manual , when its warm its a automatic. Most guys trucks are all show & no go.
GOD bless you Cory.. Absolutely yes.. The younger gentleman is replacing an E4od solenoid shift pack.. It enables and shifts your gears.. If you haven't replaced the solenoid yet, and if you plan to, then first use a siphon to drain a lot of the tranny fluid to minimize splash and avoid heavy drips.. Stay blessed..
I have a 95 F150. Just had trans rebuilt because of hard shift. Won’t go forward from stop and when it catches, it’ll shift hard from 1st to 2nd. Would also downshift from OD while driving. Truck will drive fine in manual 2 and 1. Trans just rebuilt but it still has the same problem. Would the shift solenoids be causing this problem?

It could be , the solenoid pack because if the tcc wont engage the trans wont do anything. Check my newer video for tcc valve but the video is for chevy but same concept as ford
I have a 1994 f150 e4od 4x4 transmission it wants to start out in high gear ⚙ then it also wants to stall out when you put into drive what could be the cause?
If it doesn't start in park, neutral safety switch is bad. Shifting hard would usually be a solenoid pack. One rebuilt for the 20bolt e4OD is 130ish bucks
Please reply I'm having some kind of ok up shifts and last or second down shift kind of bad sometimes sometimes not. What my problems be a shift solenoid also
could be a shift solenoid or two, usually with the solenoids acting up you get hard or erratic shifts and bad downshifts. you also can use some LUCAS TRANS STABILIZER FOR HARD SHIFTS ONCE YOU CHANGE FILTER AND FLUID. AND MAKE SURE FLUID LEVEL IS JUST RIGHT BECAUSE TOO MUCH FLUID WILL MAKE IT NOT WANT TO SHIFT AS WELL AS NOT ENOUGH/
Corey Melissa Dunn well it’s not the Torque converter since you have reverse in a ranger you have a different style transmission, it is the hardest to build in the industry. There are 2 different band adjustments on the side of your trans sometimes tightening up the bands will sometimes make it start engaging again. Good luck
cesar delgado shift solenoids control pressure for shift valve . You have 1 for first gear and second gear. Mainly u would know your solenoid is bad it might be a hard shift or if u have to let off gas pedal to make it shift.if vehicle is stuck in first it is a possibility that it is solenoid but not always.
@@hdwrenchheadevans7227 After stopping at a light my car would not accelerate. Also will not go into any gears including reverse could this be my issue.?

Good video. Is this a 4.9 with the e40d? I’m having issues with very hard shifts. Replaced the VSS and the TPS. I think my next route will be dropping the pan and changing out the solenoid. Was this the same issue with this truck?
@Mike Novak so at first you said you replaced VSS and TPS but it didnt fix the issue cause you were gonna drop pan and do solenoids but then you said you fixed issue with TPS so I'm confused what did you have to do?
Sounds like my 96 f150. The shift points are way off. Rpm tachs out almost before shifting to the next gear. Fluid and filter changed but still does it.
I had a flashing OD light on got it checked and it was the transmission power range sensor which was a 40 dollar part versus shops telling me I need a rebuilt one and that they had to in transmission which is a lie glad I did my research hopefully helpful to someone
Would any of these selnoid effect reverse?? My reverse half ass grabs and when it's cold it works perfect. It's also a 99 4r70w. I know it has 4 solenoids but dunno if any of them effect reverse
Yeah you have to go in trans pan and pull off the solenoid pack and valve body. U dont have to remove trans.Look at some of my older videos of removig valve bodies they are Chevy’s but it should give you at least an idea.
FYI Home Depot get yourself a mud tray black plastic for concrete mixing ( it takes 2 on a semi - tractor) $18. Thanks for your great video !!!
Kinda like seeing road maintenance crews on the job. One man doing the work and the others sitting/standing watching. For moral support i suppose.
Put a microphone by the two fellas sitting on the side. That’ll be a hit to listen too!!!!
Yeh they hilarious 😆
NEVER seen anyone remove all the bolts except the front ones to allow the pan to tilt to drain, GREAT IDEA!
Numa Newbern yeah but you risk bending rest of the wholes and once you button all up bamn u have a leak
Remember the easy way is not always the right way.
Only do that on your truck not one you are working on.
I was taught that trick by a transmission builder who I worked for 3 years. So far so good.

If you start a one corner of your pan loosening the screws and let it angle to that corner you will have a lot smaller flued stream.
great commentary. i enjoyed that
Would of been nice to have a close up, are all the solenoids the same? How many? and what was the symptoms that led you to do this?
Numa Newbern this was a and b solenoids, and Replaced them because of hard shifting and all gears not wanting to shift
