Coastal Foraging - Scallops, Clams and Cockles - Amazing Shellfish Cookup

- Amazing Coastal Foraging along the super low spring tide shoreline at night. Wild weather forces a change of venue but what an amazing night I had. Mountains of Scallops, Razor Clams, Cockles and other wonderful wildlife. Later that day we take our seafood forage to Spargos's Kitchen and have an incredible seafood feast. Clam and seafood Chowder, Tomatoe and Lemon Herb crusted clams and seared Scallops on a bed of fresh salad. A true taste sensation!!

And which beach may you be on 🤔
Hello fishlocker
Ant Newbon - I’ll give you a hint. One near the sea, and with a lighthouse nearby.
@@TheFishLocker I want to talk to you but don't know how. With out getting crap. But I know its c2c worthey
I love how he picks up the fish and crabs and shows and explains what it is, as soon as he is done he puts it down. It's so nice that he tries not to stress out the creature that he is picking up while still wanting to inform the veiwers. There are many people that I have seen that just hold the creature's and sometimes even mess with them. I think has become my favorite channel, outstanding work!
- Thank you very much Ash, it is something I hope transfers across in our videos. Only take what you need and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. 😊

I love the fact that after watching these videos it’s a good education of what you can and can’t eat. You can pop down the beach and come back with fresh, organic shellfish then cook a meal up fit for a king. Me and my two boys have been watching loads of these videos, so next time we go rock pooling we’ll pick some muscles, cockles, a few crabs if we’re lucky enough and some scallops take them back to our caravan clean cook and eat😋
“Treat the natural world with respect and appreciation” - The Fish Locker. Sustainability dictates our future...🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
- Absolutely. If people take away one thing from our videos I hope it is that. Safety and sustainability 😊👍🏻💙🦞🐟
@@TheFishLocker - John, are you using standard white light on your headlamp and I've seen you carry a BL flashlight. Which works best for your nighttime strolls?
Fish are friends...and food... lol
@DRIP.x.KryptoWave gotta save them now so we have more consistently later
Absolutely I came across another channel and they forage and just goof around and it's all about which family member can't collect the most .. I quoted John because it's just not right too take all of it and talking about how each member is competitive... I refuse to watch videos like that my Lil girl and I ad I've told u many times love watching you and your family forage and make wonderful meals for your family if u happen to want to see what I am referring to on that channel it's Brooke crist maybe some wisdom from John make help them realize it's not a competition it's to enjoy the forage and the food with your family .
When you where putting the smaller clams back when you found larger ones it made my day. Love it when people harvest responsibly.
- I am glad that you share our passion for sustainable foraging David. I hope that other people follow our example. Best wishes and have a great day. 😊

Saw the article about James and family in a US National news article. Congratulations to James and you and family on his ringing of the bell. Bless you all.
- Good news travels fast. We are so overjoyed and relieved. 😊💙
Oh I wish I'd seen that
I cannot seem to find this, can you share a link?

@@westr70 The link worked great, thank you for sharing that. I had NO CLUE little one was going through that. I will pray in thanks and that he will remain healthy and have a wonderful life going forward. God bless the Locker family.
Thanks again for emphasizing safety. My brother, a dive team member here in the US, just recovered the third body in a month. A woman on a kayak who couldn't swim not wearing a life jacket. Her husband looked back from his paddle board and she was gone. Everyone please be as safe as you can. Your loss would be traumatic for your family and those sent to find you.
- It is so so important isn’t it. Safety first. 👍🏻
Seems like an insurance job.
The little pat he does to the scallops is so precious. Love how he puts things back and only takes what he needs.
- I am so glad that you share our philosophy and passion for sustainable foraging. Just because I take things for the table doesn't mean you shoudn't show compassion for the natural world. Have a wonderful day Camryn and stay safe 😊
@@TheFishLocker I agree! Especially with everything going on in the world right now, it’s so easy to forget that we have to be kind to nature as well.
Every crab he picked up was like “Sir, can you put me the FUCK down”
I can't help but feel they have quite a posh accent. 🤣
@@TheFishLocker funny that, I feel they all have quite an agressive/chav accent, but that might just be all the agressive aussie crabs i've interacted with. The edible crabs you pick up just curl up and are like "yep, just john. he's just making a video, no need to worry" where as the mudcrabs I catch will kamikaze into me and attempt to murder my shoes XD
I love that you throw back what you don’t need instead of keeping it just because you can
- Thank you Marci. It is something that I truly hope transfers across in our videos, and is something I am teaching our children. Only take what you need, and treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. 😊

There is something primitively satisfying about seeing all that food foraged from the shore, a feeling that doesn’t happen in the supermarket!
The food looked wonderful, an all round satisfying experience, I love the foraging vids, this one was extra special.
- Of all of my shellfish foraging sessions this was the most bountiful I have ever seen, and the meal at the end. Im unsure if it was just because we had sourced it all ourselves and cooked it together. But it was one of the best meals I have ever had. 😊
The Fish Locker what super memories you have with 3 generations❣️ Your son will really enjoy them for decades & decades.
@@TheFishLocker In my opinion John...the meal was "one of the best" because the food was gathered with love, prepared with love & shared with love.
However, some may say...it was "the best"...because of Hannas' attentive stirring :-))

Hi John
There's many comments made about keeping secret their fishing spots, and I know that you personally have been subject to criticism from the locals, I have been fishing for 50+ years, mate life to short to worry about keeping fishing spots a secret, part of my joy is sharing with my fellow fishos my fishing spots, the length that some people go to blur out land marks on the videos, come on fishos, get real part of the joy of fishing is sharing, this is what I believe in, you make up your own minds.
- Sadly there is always an element of society that show utter disrespect to man and beast. They are the people who ruin fish marks. Also several of the marks I fish require access over private land. And although there is currently a good relationship with landowners. It just takes one ass and that is ruined.
@@TheFishLocker - It's the same on this side of the pond too. Respect for landowners pays large dividends unless someone doesn't read signs or get prior permission.
John - We had property in Missouri with a nice two-acre pond well stocked with large channel catfish, many in the ten-plus pound category because they were fed daily and had access to an on-demand feeder. A family friend was hospitalized and required assistance while in a hospital in Saint Louis, so we asked another a neighbor to watch our property till our return three weeks later.
We heard tell of several barbecues and large fishing groups from the helpful neighbor's family and friends while we're gone, who littered and improperly entered a garage and storage building. The catfish were quickly fished out with fences cut so folks could park on the road to walk to the pond. It was never the same with no trespassing signs posted on every fence and pole plus hundreds of dollars in fence repairs.
We came home to see strangers sitting at our pond fishing, even using our covered picnic table and grill while we were in the house. We gave them the boot, especially after they said they already had access permission, [granted from the erstwhile neighbor after we returned home], a truly galling experience.
Another terrific video! Looks like you found your "LUCKY" bucket. You wound have to have a real bankroll to order that meal in a restaurant. As you said .....all provided by Mother Nature......God is Good!
- Thank you Tim. Yes if I couldn't find these things we would never get to eat them, it is well out of our price range. Bless you and your family and stay safe 😊

Seems to me that the new bucket has worked it's magic.. man they were some lovely looking scallops.. A veritable feast cooked up by the Father in Law...
- It sure does seem lucky. One of the best foraging session I’ve ever had followed by honestly the best cookup I’ve ever had. 😊🐚🍽
you: aww heres a small king scallop!
you: *throws it*
small king scallop: AY MATE DONT TOUCH M- AHHHHH WHY AM I FLYING *plops into water* WHERE AM I!??!?!
- WEEEEEEEEEE *splosh*.... well that was unexpected.
I throughly enjoyed the foraging segment, very entertaining., but the kitchen segment was wonderful. Definitely a meal fit for royalty. Great presentation! Your father -in-law ‘s restaurant should get a James Beard rating if his other menu items are as appealing as this meal was.👍
Question: Are the shells of the razor clam clam used in the production of the handle of the straight razor?🤔 Thanks for a entertaining and informative video, wonderful as always.
- Thank you James. Jim really did do us proud with this wonderful cookup. The handles on cut throat razors were usually horn. But it is the shape that is why razor clams are called what they are. 😉
The Fish Locker Cut throat, never heard that term. Classic! Thanks for the response.
Yum
