6:19 - everything about Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Holmes is spot on, even the act of sitting down. Definitely one of the greatest acting in a TV series of all time.
A great actor, ,you forget that he is acting. Sherlock Holmes was never more real than when Jeremy Brett summoned him to life. Once in a lifetime, this kind of magic. ❤
Jeremy Brett was the quintessential Sherlock Holmes. His look, his manner, his methods, sheer magnificence. I grew up watching every single episode of this show on A&E with my mom, we both loved it. Still do.
One of the things I love the most of several about these programs is when they go into the country side they include the wildlife including and especially the sound work . Not just crows but in passing the pond the water fowl. So well done.
Brett will always be my favorite Sherlock. I'm so glad these episodes resurfaced on YT again. Cumberbatch, Moffat and Gatiss need to sit down and take notes.
Victoria, Rathbone and Brett are a tie for me. Loved them both. I don't mind Cumberbatch; although obviously a modern interpretation, I feel like he keeps the spirit of SH alive.
I agree as well. Jeremy Brett is the quintessential "traditional" Sherlock, but Benedict Cumberbatch in "Sherlock" and Jonny Lee Miller in "Elementary" both help to keep the canon fresh, exposing younger generations to the stories. Hopefully, they'll be intrigued enough to search out older versions. I had not seen any Basil Rathbone productions, for example, until after I had watched Jeremy Brett.
still a brilliant adaptation of Doyle's amazing Sherlock Holmes series. Jeremy Brett was, in my opinion, the best Holmes. this is one of my favorite episodes. thank you for posting.
I too agree Jeremy Brett is my choice of the best Sherlock Holmes. I enjoyed his performance as an eccentric witty & cynical detective/ which I find enormously humorous.
That kind of depiction is MUCH better than todays style of action-focused or modern-day "Sherlocks". The setting IS part of the story and the setting is VICTORIAN!
Yes. The eccentricy Brett convieghs adds so much. Other actors of Holmes have been very intelligent but otherwise normal people. The additional quirks added by Brett makes his Holmes quite unique.
No idea why but I always preferred Mr. Hardwicke as 'Watson' . I consider meself an experienced Holmes affectionado, read all the books, seen most all the fliks tho' I feel Brett, Rathbone and our lad w/ the two movies to be the only worthwhile portrayers of the master sleuth. Hardwicke just fits it better. (;-b)
These are the closest to the original stories, but for me it will always be the Sheldon Reynolds remakes with Geoffrey Whitehead. The screenplay in those is engrossing, no matter how many times I watch them.
This is a true story. I am the dead man in the opening scene. I reincarnated yesterday and found this video while remembering & researching my former lives. Thanks for the upload.
Trivia: This was the first episode that was shot with Hardwicke as Watson (and the second one aired, after Empty House). I kinda wish Burke had played the part the entire series, but I like Hardwicke just fine. It's not a bummer, like the two Darrens on Bewitched...
Moment 8.14 When he smiles his trademark flash smile, it seems to me that he has seen through the lady's entirety fabricated story in the beginning itself😊
Gator Byte I agree. The BBC Sherlock series has its good moments, but it's too lacking in many areas. The writers and/or producers could use a bit of humility -- and a lot more respect for the viewer. Just sayin'
the return of sherlock holmes lacks the lustre and the activit of the first. its like conan dole was forced to write and not out of inspiration. scandal in bohemia and dancing men et all had a life that is lacking in the return.

I AGREE

Jeremy Brett Simply The Best Sherlock Holmes! Ever! I Really Enjoy This Sherlock Holmes T.V. Series Bravo! Jeremy Brett Bravo!
There were great actors who played Holmes...and then there was Jeremy Brett, the man WHO WAS HOLMES !!!
I totally agree with your sentiments. Jeremy Brett was Sherlock Holmes. Every other actor who portrayed Holmes comes up short in comparison. 😎
Brett will always be my favorite Sherlock. I'm so glad these episodes resurfaced on YT again. Cumberbatch, Moffat and Gatiss need to sit down and take notes.
Basil Rathbone for me, beg to differ.
tarang rastogi heck ya!

Agree - Cumberbatch is very good and definitely in the spirit of the character - delighting both devotees and those who are new to Holmes.

Brett was Sherlock Holmes, and Hardwicke the best Dr. Watson of the whole lot!
Come Watson, the game is afoot.
Yes! My favorite movie line of all time..
I crack up every time I see the men wearing nightgowns in those days 😁😁😁😁.
Such a beautiful sensitive face has Brett.

Talent abounds.

What a handsome man. Absolutely brilliant actor.

Yes played by Dick Sargent & Dick York. Sargent York!?
Hardy har har. Good one! I once heard that there was a (punk?) band called the Real Darren...
rangergrrrl i too, prefer burke. Oh well.....
The grange is the same house as used in The Speckled Band
I noticed the same thing, only now it has been restored completely. I wonder what the real name of the house is.
Imdb says Adlington Hall
Moment 8.14 When he smiles his trademark flash smile, it seems to me that he has seen through the lady's entirety fabricated story in the beginning itself😊
Jeremy Brett The Amazing Admirable Talented Stunning Elegant Wonderfull Hot Charming Charisma!! Loveeeee U J.B. ✨🤍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
To me, Jeremy Brett was more Sherlock Holmes, than Holmes himself. What I mean is, he is better than the fictional SH.
Best Sherlock Holmes
I like this Sherlock better than the one with Martin Freeman; he's alot more humble and humility is very hard to find
Gator Byte Who's more humble?
teo4evermj the Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy B.
Oh, you mean Jeremy Brett himself
Gator Byte I agree. The BBC Sherlock series has its good moments, but it's too lacking in many areas. The writers and/or producers could use a bit of humility -- and a lot more respect for the viewer. Just sayin'
+Gator Byte I love the modern one It is in our time . because it leads to others . Which I think the stories became Immortal.
Such a beautiful woman
...as usual Watson buys anything a pretty girl has to say sight unseen! (;-p)

the return of sherlock holmes lacks the lustre and the activit of the first. its like conan dole was forced to write and not out of inspiration. scandal in bohemia and dancing men et all had a life that is lacking in the return.
