I didn't give Brett a chance, but now that I've taken the time to watch closely, he does a fantastic job with the role that is scrutinized more than any other, aside from some of Shakespeares characters, Holmes resonates with so many of us, he's complicated, capable of kindness and cruelty, he's a good example of how we with the human condition try and weave our way through life with myriad of thoughts and desires. I love what Socrates said when his friend brought him to a huge market with thousands of items for sale, he said, there are so many things I don't want.
Jeremy 'Is' the best ever, Mr Sherlock Holmes....subtle humor, He just Was Sherlock, he didn't play him .....my deduction anyway. Love him. God bless .
I love how Watson's indication of the type of firearm is dismissed by the judge. Watson is a military man, and thus probably would know. Not to mention living with Holmes, Holmes methods of reasoning would have rubbed off. As Holmes said once, "you are too timid in drawing your inferences" Well here he drew it, and was shot down
The Judge at the Murder Inquest is magnificent: he displays the attitude of the British towards class, even toward Dr......Watson? His toadying attitude towards someone with a "Sir" in front of his name tells all. Great acting, although I think this Watson is inferior to the one who preceded him. Brett, as usual, is magnificent, and Inspector Lestrade IS Lestrade.
Jeremy Brett is definitely the 13th best Holmes to adorn our idiot box screens . That Hardwicke fellow is easily the 8th best Dr Watson , too . I fully concur with everyone on this observation .
Jeremy Brett was the finest Sherlock Holmes. What a wonderful, wonderful man, God rest his soul.
I wholeheartily agree. He was the best Sherlock, period.

Jeremy Brett is a great person and and also a great actor..he is perfect for the role of Sherlock Holmes..
Interesting he also said himself he was a gregarious, social person and found it difficult to force himself into the moody Holmes.
Keep watching them over snd over
Jeremy Brett awesome!

The way that judge says, "Dr....Watson." cracks me up.

JEREMY BRETT:Best. Holmes. Ever.
one of the best episodes of this fantastic series! thanks for posting it!
At first I thought, "Don't touch the bullet! You'll mess up the trace evidence!" Then I remembered what year the story takes place in.
Great piece of the movie. Thanks

Yes I like Lestrade as well. He did a fine job. Same as his role in Hitchhikers Guide from the resturat at the edge of the Universe.
The YT interface is shait.

Ha, ha. Who is the best Holmes according to you?
Basil Rathbone or Peter Cushing, although J. Brett is undeniably great.
I wonder how long he will have to practice the intro violin solo before it begins to sound good and not a strangeld feline
It shows that the person playing has a strange mind indeed. Very scary imo. And borderline chaotic.
I wondered what had happened to Nigel Kennedy, he’s being snotty on you tube!
I can't hear it!
In hindi
