when i learned kickflips back in the day i learned them the "wrong" way i.e. pushing down off the side of the board instead of flicking through the nose and was wondering why i've been struggling to relearn & reteach myself how to do them the right way and was sometimes getting a good flick and sometimes nothing at all and it's all because i've been hitting that "snooze button" too much he brings up in earlier in the video. added a nice little dot to my griptape for the sweet spot and a little line to indicate the no-no zone.
no one has done this because doing so in a way betrays all the secrets skaters keep to themselves. truth is that the grip tape itself is not the only part of theory. You need to use the grip tape areas in different ways depending on the inertia involved, as well as how you individually pop and flip and so forth. This isnt actually the real game changer since actual ability and performance is the ultimate judge.

Rodney mullen mapped out the grip in grids for marc johnson in the van on the way to do demos. Marc asked how to do nollie inward heels to tail slide or something. Mullen marked the board up for him and at the next stop marc got the trick second try. Reminds me of that.
I’M 52. I’ve been a diehard Powell fan since 84. Andy is my favorite dude in the game atm. Dudes probably got a higher IQ than most people at Yale, and Harvard! KEEP SLAYING ANDY!

Pretty much. 49 and got back into skating and picked up his board because I saw him skating and talking and loved it. I won't ever use it to its potential, but the fact that it has been designed and engineered with a vision and purpose is a big draw.

He was obviously focusing on the physics to do what he was doing, the videos and tricks he did are the proof/"evidence" of that lol😅 you dont just somehow do all the tricks Rodney was doing without having some level of focus/physics being involved with how he was doing each trick. He knew where his feet needed to be same as Andy does, not all skaters care to really focus on it, but if they're doing tricks or flip tricks on any level, you've got to have a basic idea of applied forces and what they do when applied in different areas/with differing power behind them etc. Rodney was conscious of those things for sure.
I'm a 43 year old brit, i used to skate for years and years, love it so much it was, ramp and street, loved all the old school VHS skate tapes, Powell Peralta were my go to board, watching this makes me wanna skate again, this grip tape is a awesome idea, hope it goes a long way.

I don't skate, but this guy had me as soon as he said "Frank Zappa!" I just discovered Mr. Anderson about a week ago and recognized immediately that he is not just a skater. He's an artist! Back then when Powell released that deck, people (me included) were posting and asking for something like that. Something to better understand how to ride that. I remember myself (and Andy liked 😁) asking for some kind of "how to" added with the deck, in paper or a sticker. And here we go, now you can have it at your own feet. Well done.
Andy Anderson is my favorite skater. I grew up in the 80s and haven't skated in 25 years. But I still follow a little here and there. Andy is just so fun- a great ambassador for skating.

When applying grip tape you can remove the paper in sections. Lineup half with the paper on. Stick the other half. Remove the rest of the paper and stick the remaining half.
@@authenticandyanderson You will like this too. It is a sine wave on a wheel. For every one revolution of a wheel a scotch yoke is rotated once (1:1). An end mill is used to cut a sine wave. PS: i'm a self taught classic hard rock/heavy metal guitarist, who never learned music theory and cant read notes. but from what i've been told, i'm decent anyways. so that comparison really vibed with me.

The knowledge sharing part of this idea is so awesome! One of the reasons guitars have fret markers is so other musicians can see what they are playing and can riff off of it.

It's called deliberate practice. It's the successor to Malcom Gladwell's 10,000 hours theory. You can play the same 5 songs on guitar 5000 times and not get better or you can drill scales, arpeggios, technique and surpass the previous person within a year. Being cognizant of each attempt allows you to correct an action and develop consistency.

I skated as a kid, never even fully landed a kick flip, but could carve and ride (also surfed). I'm a doctor now, and think Andy is one of the greatest skaters to ever live, and continue watching him. Quick question, has there ever been a scientific research study into the specific trick mechanics and mappings of skateboarding tricks? I feel like there has to be. If this was around when I was a kid, I probably wouldn't have put down the sksreboard, knowing how my brain works. You're awesome Andy.

Andy you're gonna love this; there's an upward hill I skate most days that feels a bit like going down hill, crazy Irish hills; but check this - it's harder to skate west but you actually travel a much greater solar/georelative distance (travelling with the world's spin), it's easier and apparently faster to skate east (even uphill) but your technically staying roughly in the same geo relative position (skating into or against the world turning) - This explains why TreeBeard the Ent liked walking west, it felt like he was taking massive solar strides (like walking downhill) walking with the world turning (he's a tree after all🌞) So Andy, with the help of advanced astro trigonometry; you should be able to Ollie (as you do) out of a bowl towards east and hangtime until you land in Ireland so that you can skate my hometown, mathematically with very little effort, lots of hangtime 🫒😇😋☮️

I think this is great. I do believe I’ll be grabbing it and the board to give it a shot. I’m 46 and got back into skateboarding a few months ago. Mostly cruising but I want to start doing tricks again. It’s been 30 years. This is going to help. My son will also love this as he’s just beginning to learn flip tricks. Andy just keeps impressing me more and more
I'm 48 and thinking the same thing! I bought a Frankie Hill 911 when I was 46 and set it up the same as my first Hill back when I was 15 but I have been thinking of buying a skinny little 'flippity' board for a while. I think this Anderson and grip is what I want. Lets flip into our 50's mate!

I am intrigued to try this, the flight deck is a little bit too pricey for me in the uk. Hopefully soon ill be able to try it. So glad you used guitar as an example helped me realise what type of skater I am, because I am not really a theory guy, but I do try to learn a little theory here and there. Like in my 19 years of playing my theory is maybe grade 3, but I can play grade 8 stuff.

Andy Anderson is changing the game with his innovations! He totally reminds me of a young Mullen but less of an introvert... still an introverted person, but just less than Mullen. I'm excited to see how much the next generation progresses with all the thought that's going into the gear now.

It's called deliberate practice. It's the successor to Malcom Gladwell's 10,000 hours theory.
You can play the same 5 songs on guitar 5000 times and not get better or you can drill scales, arpeggios, technique and surpass the previous person within a year. Being cognizant of each attempt allows you to correct an action and develop consistency.

As a 52yr old Gen-Xer who lived P&P's Bones Brigade first time round in my teens, I adore Andy & his authentic, genuine LOVE for skating & contribution to it.

I skated as a kid, never even fully landed a kick flip, but could carve and ride (also surfed). I'm a doctor now, and think Andy is one of the greatest skaters to ever live, and continue watching him. Quick question, has there ever been a scientific research study into the specific trick mechanics and mappings of skateboarding tricks? I feel like there has to be. If this was around when I was a kid, I probably wouldn't have put down the sksreboard, knowing how my brain works. You're awesome Andy.

Andy you're gonna love this; there's an upward hill I skate most days that feels a bit like going down hill, crazy Irish hills; but check this - it's harder to skate west but you actually travel a much greater solar/georelative distance (travelling with the world's spin), it's easier and apparently faster to skate east (even uphill) but your technically staying roughly in the same geo relative position (skating into or against the world turning) - This explains why TreeBeard the Ent liked walking west, it felt like he was taking massive solar strides (like walking downhill) walking with the world turning (he's a tree after all🌞)
So Andy, with the help of advanced astro trigonometry; you should be able to Ollie (as you do) out of a bowl towards east and hangtime until you land in Ireland so that you can skate my hometown, mathematically with very little effort, lots of hangtime 🫒😇😋☮️

I think this is great. I do believe I’ll be grabbing it and the board to give it a shot. I’m 46 and got back into skateboarding a few months ago. Mostly cruising but I want to start doing tricks again. It’s been 30 years. This is going to help. My son will also love this as he’s just beginning to learn flip tricks. Andy just keeps impressing me more and more
I'm 48 and thinking the same thing! I bought a Frankie Hill 911 when I was 46 and set it up the same as my first Hill back when I was 15 but I have been thinking of buying a skinny little 'flippity' board for a while. I think this Anderson and grip is what I want. Lets flip into our 50's mate!

I am intrigued to try this, the flight deck is a little bit too pricey for me in the uk. Hopefully soon ill be able to try it. So glad you used guitar as an example helped me realise what type of skater I am, because I am not really a theory guy, but I do try to learn a little theory here and there. Like in my 19 years of playing my theory is maybe grade 3, but I can play grade 8 stuff.
