- NEPALI STREET FOOD feast in KATHMANDU, Nepal | Best MOMOS in Kathmandu + traditional Newari food
Nepal is home to over 100 different ethnicities so it's safe to say that the food culture of this country is immense and diverse. We're in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal to explore the food culture of this vibrant city. We start with a traditional Nepali breakfast at the bazaar of sel roti, gwaramari- a traditional Newari food and chiya (tea). We then head to a locals favourite for one of Nepal's most beloved foods- momos (dumplings). We visit Patan, one of the three cities that make up the Kathmandu Valley to delve into Newari food- the Newar are the indigenous inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley- and eat woh (often called bara), a lentil pancake at a hole in the wall Newar restaurant. We finish at a 4th generation family bakery that specialises in traditional Newar sweets and eat lakhamari, a sweet bread. 1. Sel roti, gwaramari and chiya (tea) at Ason Bazaar, Chittadhar Marg, Kathmandu 44600, Nepal. Get there before 9:00am.
2. Jhol momos (dumplings) at Swadisht Mo Mo, Kunayetwa Marg, Kathmandu 44600, Nepal. Open daily from 11:00am to evening.
3. Wo at Honacha, Behind Krishna Temple, Mamaru Galli, Lalitpur 44600, Nepal. Open daily 9:00am to 8:00pm.
4. Lakhamari at Nanda Mithai Bhandar, Tichhu galli, Lalitpur 44700, Nepal. Open daily 6:00am to 8:00pm.

i've been to Nepal for 5months for a business trip.. Nepali people are best. 😊 i was able to visit places with the guide of my nepali brothers. Was also spent nights sleeping on each friend's house. But momo is a heaven for me. I could finish 25 pieces in one seating. 😋 will definitely visit nepal again soon to meet my friends and hopefully make it to pokhara.

Been away from home for almost 4 years. You guys made me miss Nepalese food. Nothing can beat that warm fuzzy tea early in the chilly Kathmandu morning and delicious selroti to dip into that tea before you eat it . Tip is do not let the soaked tea fall from the selroti 🤭 and eat it right after you dip it in your tea. Momos are absolutely delicious and no wonder they are so popular even outside Nepal. 😋 Thank you so much guys.

Last time I was in KTM the momos were just 50 bucks.... I miss it so much... loved the video... bought back so many memories...

When Thomas mentioned last week that you two traveled to Nepal I did some quick research of course. I eat momo quite regularly so am happy to see them pop up so soon. Top five international dumpling hands down!
*_Honacha_* - So cool. Knew you would head there as it is mentioned in every newari article I read and video I watched. Funny that people are all over the board regarding establishment. 60 year old? Over 100 years old? 😂 I know you know that they have three locations but the original apparently is just around the corner. Wonder if you two had time to visit that location while in Patan.

Glad you enjoyed this one Tosh! Those momo were excellent- I’ve never had them with the jhol achaar just on the table like that as a free for all. Honacha was great- haha yes it’s always mentioned in articles and the like. We didn’t get a chance to visit the original- we were particularly taken by the premises of this one so that’s why we filmed here. Hope you like this series mate. Cheers, Sheena
Yes. That jhol achar is so cool. I've never had it that way (self served on the table or prepped in the kitchen). In fact, I didn't even know about that style until you guys introduced it to me. 👍 The momo I get is from a Nepali (slash) Indian restaurant and it comes with a basic pinkish dipping sauce. I think I'm missing out. 😂
Tosh T I reckon you’ll be on the hunt for some jhol momos soon 😆 That style has jumped to the top spot for the both of us!

Lakhamari has more presentation value than eating since its extremely sweet and oily. But the way Sheena described it, even I was thinking it might be good. More than the momo me and my bestfriend fill our stomach with the aachar😆😅. That's what every nepali teenagers do especially when they are from middle class family.
